    Utah Moqui Canyon

Hi, I have done a search on this and nothing came up. Has anyone ever rode this canyon? its on Hwy 276 sort of across from the hole in the rock trail. I got to the sand switch backs and didn't go down since I was by myself and didn't know what it was all about. http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm/ut/monticello_fo/Travel_Plan_Maps.Par.59280.File.dat/13-13.pdf as you can see B2221 is graded and I stopped on top of the switch back . any info would be great. oh I'm on a DRZSM with 21 frt/18rear on it.
  2. Thinking about making the drive out from CO for this race. What is the terrain like in Mesquite compared to the D-37 races in SoCal that I am familiar with? Also, what is the start format? Dead engine? Are the courses marked with pink ribbon, green arrow direction cards, and red arrow danger cards? Also, what, if any, part of the course is open for practice? I am guessing that like D-37, only the bomb is open for practice. Thanks. I have looked at the MotoUtah forums and haven't found much there, YET.

    Utah Moab Oct 18-27th?

I'll be headed to Moab from phoenix in Oct. If anyone is interested in meeting up for riding and camping LMK. I plan on riding the classics in the Moab area. Then heading out to do an overnighter on the white rim trail. I will also be spending a day exploring the Utah launch complex north of canyonlands. And another full day riding then hiking down to the great gallery in the Maze district. If your interested hit me up and we can exchange info. I'm on a KTM XC-W 530, Later

    Utah Moab trail-work ambitions

This fall will be busy for RwR, especially after the BLM gave permission and support to improve several OHV trails northwest of Moab, toward White Wash. Although we always appreciate checks sent payable to Ride with Respect , we could especially use help rerouting motorcycle and ATV trails to increase their longevity and the fun factor. In fact, prizes are available for the first half-dozen volunteers who step up. --- But before detailing the trail-work opportunities, we need to highly recommend next month's adventure ride out of Park City, Utah... DEER VALLEY RALLY (September 26th - 28th) https://edge.webconnex.com/offroad-rally Whether you sign up for the dinner, the ride, the hotel, or all three, proceeds will go to the Kurt Caselli Foundation. After the loss of this exceptional racer and young man, his family and industry friends started a foundation to improve the safety conditions at races. They've already made great strides, and it's even trickled down from racing to general riding, which benefits all motorcyclists. If you can't make the event, please consider making a donation directly to the foundation: http://www.kurtcaselli.com/ --- Okay, now onto the half-day trail-work opportunities. They all qualify for a satisfying sandwich and, if you're one of the first six people to pledge your help this fall, an additional prize (see bottom for details). ENDURO LOOP SWITCHBACK (early September) As you may know, RwR already rerouted three parts of Enduro Loop: http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Moabtimes1//Magazine59656/Full/index.aspx?id=59656#/4/zoomed Fortunately, we got help from a handful of motorcycle clubs including the Bookcliff Rattlers MC, Northern Colorado Trail Riders Association, Racers Under The Son, and the unofficial MC of Leif Snapp-Cook. The new sections look great, but the switchback at Big Drop needs some follow-up work as soon as possible. As with the other trail-work projects, call Clif Koontz to schedule (435-259-8334). --- OTHER SINGLETRACK & ATV TRAIL REROUTES (September - November) BLM did the planning to approve other work all the way up to White Wash, and now they need help swinging tools. Frankly it's hard work, but volunteers can go at their own pace, the scenery is spectacular, and there's time to ride afterward. Most of all, it feels great to have a positive impact on the land and the riding opportunities. --- CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON OHV USE (September 25th) If getting dirty isn't your thing, here's another way to contribute through RwR. Utah State Parks and Recreation seeks to learn more about off-highway vehicle use, rider interests, concerns, and economic impact. By going through training in Moab on the evening of September 25th, you can then accurately conduct surveys on nearby trails. The data will help State Parks to better serve OHV riders on public lands across the state. --- CLEANING UP FLAT PASS TRAIL (September 27th) For National Public Lands Day, RwR will partner with Moab Friends For Wheelin' on Flat Pass (aka Steel Bender Trail). The trail is braided, but a few measures could be taken to encourage travel along a single path of good quality. On many 4WD trails, the work of MFFW benefits motorcyclists and ATV riders, so we ought to pitch in. --- THE PRIZES The first six people to contact Clif Koontz (435-259-8334) and set a date for volunteering will be eligible to receive: A. half-hour massage from Sarah Ball LMT (3 available) http://sarahball.massagetherapy.com/ OR B. choice of premium motocross jersey (2 available) https://www.facebook.com/ColoradoTPA/photos/pb.638960816135387.-2207520000.1408269287./672617272769741/?type=3&theater OR C. set of Tugger straps with custom embroidery (1 available) http://thetugger.com/ Thanks to these fine businesses, there's more reason than ever to get involved with RwR!

Utah Pony Express Trail - Utah

Anyone familiar enough with the Pony Express Trail to recommend/not recommend it to drive on in a Subaru STi? Ideally I'd be riding the KTM 690 Enduro, but I'm taking my son on a road trip from Texas to Lake Tahoe during Spring Break (March 2015) and thought this would be a fun section if it's not too rough for a car.

Hello, Heading up to Richfield Utah this summer break. Does anyone recommend a good hotel or have any other advice? Thanks Steve
  12. Hello Moab experts! We'll be riding in the Moab/Green River areas during the first week of April and looking forward to riding the Sovereign trail, as that is one that we haven't ridden on our past trips. I seem to recall reading something/somewhere about some single track that connects Sovereign with the White Wash area. If anyone can provide some input on that I would appreciate it. Also, does the Sovereign trail connect to the Klondike Bluffs trails now? We've ridden most of the well known trails and are trying to find some new stuff to ride. Thanks!

  15. How is the riding this time of year? A few of us are hoping to head south in the next month. If anyone knows the current conditions or where to ride in st George or cainville I would greatly appreciate it.
  16. I have been under the impression that all Utah OHV registrations were valid in Idaho, I have taken my bike to Idaho on numerous occasions and never though much of it. This winter we got a ticket for riding our utah registered snowmobiles in Idaho. I was told by a family member that only certain types of OHV's were allowed in Idaho with Utah registration(ie, 4 wheelers and motorcycles). I have searched the Utah OHV site but have found no solid answers! So do I need to register my KTM 300 in Idaho to ride there or will my Utah OHV registration suffice? It you have links that would be appreciated. Thanks Guys! Ray

    Utah Moab trails for rookies

Hey guys So im an experienced rider 25+ years , my wife is a total Noob. We got her off the stupid 4 wheeler last year and onto a crf 230 Neither of us have been to Moab. We are heading out tomorrow for 10 days Can you Moab veterans make some recommendations on what trails to try? So far I'm thinking sovereign and slick rock but thats the only ideas i have Jeep trails are fine for her also if OHV are allowed on them. Wider and easier is better for her but she is reasonable competent on moderate single track. What we don't want to do is wind up on a trail that requires us to do some crazy switchback looking down a cliff 300 feet. That will not go well with her. Any help would be greatly appreciated and please excuse my ignorance on the topic. Thanks in advance

One all of my bikes are Tabed in Washington does my ORV tabs work there or am I going to have to register them there? Also where is the nearest ORV park from Salt Lake city? Also what are the ORV's parks around like? Rocky, some tight woods or more desert like? Thanks in advance!

    Utah Moab lately

First off let me say that like a lot of people I love the place. Some of my favorite trails are there. I've been going there for the last 17 years. Some years I only made it once or twice, lots of years I've made it there 4-5 times between fall and spring trips. I was just there this last weekend and I can't stand how crowded it has gotten in the past 5-6 years. I know-I'm part of the problem. I'm one of many CO people that help to fill the place up. I think the place has really gotten bad the last 3 or so years that I've gone there. There no longer is really any place to "get away" from the crowds. All the trails seem crowded. Town is crowded, the campgrounds near town and outside of town are all full. It has really taken some of the shine off of riding there. After l left Moab I went over to Hanksville and road around there for a couple of days. Swingarm City was empty, but the trails around Goblin Valley had a fair number of riders. More than the last couple of times I've been there. I think word has gotten out about the riding in that area. Not trying to piss anyone off with my post. Just an observation, and wondering if anyone else thinks the same thing.
  20. Fellow OHVers, I am asking for your help in preventing a monument designation in San Juan County, Utah. The proposed monument would lock us out of 1.9 million acres of public lands (3,000 square miles). I am an avid dirt biker and as such I ask for your support in opposing the designation of the Bears Ears National monument. We are a stones throw from Moab, Utah and hundreds of miles of single/two track are at stake. We don't want/need to lose more trails and us locals have far more at stake than just the recreational aspect of a monument designation. Please go here and sign the petition: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/doodah-no-bears-ears-national-monument I am going to cross post this on other forums (including the land use/legislation forum) as well. Please sign the petition and get the word out. Thanks for all your help! edit: I just noticed that on the petition it states that there will be increased access. This doesn't pertain to motorized trails. It simply means that there will be an increase in tourist traffic to the existing roads and all the trash and vandalism that comes with them. I just wanted to clarify that line because the wording is confusing.

    Utah Paiute trail

I'm looking to hit the Paiute in September. I've seen a few conflicting reports as to the true mileage of all the trails combined, and whether or not legal single track exists. But nobody argues about it's scenery. I can't take enough gear on my xr400 for 3-4 days of camping, so I have a few questions for the locals. Can you slip into enough towns for gas/food/lodging off the main trail? Can you base out of Marysvale or is there another town better to do that? Should I just take my ATV (gasp) and camp off of it? Any advice on the area greatly appreciated, and I've sent for a trail map so I don't get lost and die.

  25. I am looking to ride for the day Monday October 14. I have ridden in the Green River area once and it was awesome. I was wondering if by chance anyone familiar with area might be available to meet us and roost for the day. Or let me know if there are any good maps of the area.
