  5. This is an annual ride. Since this is my first year riding I had no idea what to expect! Youtube does not do these trails justice. We rode the first weekend in August, started in Easton and stayed overnight somewhere by little naches. Here is a short video of my mt. Cliffty ride.(its edited to make me look faster than I am.) 6. Hey fella's. Looking already at booking some family camping in central Washington. I'm the only one who rides (so far) in the family and I was wondering about any riding spots that are close to any/some of the following: Winthrop, Lincoln Rock, Sunlakes/Dryfalls, Lake Chelan, Oroville. I'm probably able to sneak away for a few hours a morning or two on the trip. Better than nothing I guess. So anyways, I'll grab an OHV tag if required, but it's not a street legal bike. Any advice as to what area I should steer our camping trip towards? Thx, appreciate any info. cheers.
  7. That's the set up I'm going with this year with a bridgestone ultra heavy duty tube and Pirelli scorpion on the rear that is near toast, and then get a guy on vendor row to throw new meat on the rear after the iron man(like to give back).QUESTION. Forgot dunlops have directional arrows, so of course I mounted it with arrows spinning the wrong way. Tread pattern looks the same both ways. No harm no foul?
  8. Hate to see it but just got back from riding east and packed out a full trash bag come n guys just pack it out. I might think it was not dirtbikers but i found troylee labels so I know it was us Please pick up your trash before they close another riding area brent
  9. I dont even know where to start first of all thank you thumpertalk and every who directed me to OLD GRUNT. That man had put together one of the cooliest associations that I have ever had the privilige of taking part of. I am active duty military and moved out here not knowing anyone but one of my old soldiers which has never been on a dirtbike in his life. So Dutch gets in contact with me and if very pateinet with me and all my stupid and redundant questions. After talking with him he tells me to bring my buddie along to ride that he would supply a bike and all the proper saftey equipment needed. We so up were Dutch tells us to meet and we get suited up well needless to say my buddie wasnt as quick of a learner as I thought he would be lol.But Dutch did not care he took his time and had training aids to help my buddie learn how to overcome obsiticles it was freaking amazing how fast he tought my buddie how to ride.... I think he was refered to as the YODA of dirtbikes lol. To make a long story short my buddie has been here for 14 months and says that he has never had that much fun ever he is a hooked dirt biker now thx to OLD Grunt and the american legion. I am in the process of editing my go pro footage and will post it on this thread shortly sorry to rammble on but Dutch is doing big things for people and I thought I should take the time and say thank you very much.
  10. We need to get the mtn biker's back here -- its been announced that they will gate off slide mtn and decommission all the trails at NF. This will also eliminate access to the rest of slide mountain, removing 20+ miles and some great views from the top. What can we do? We need to help make sure these trails stay open. As the mtn bikers have noted, there is no legal recreation on DNR land in Whatcom County. In short, the way they're managing dispersed recreation is not working. All of this is going towards a problem that needs to be tackled by the legislature... ie: user managed trail agreements. Timeline Need to Email these people before April 1st, 2012: • Bill Knutzen - bknutzen@co.whatcom.wa.us • Kathy Kershner - kkershne@co.whatcom.wa.us • Ken Mann - kmann@co.whatcom.wa.us • Sam Crawford - scrawfor@co.whatcom.wa.us • Carl Weimer - cweimer@co.whatcom.wa.us • Barbara Brenner - bbrenner@co.whatcom.wa.us • Pete Kremen – pkremen@co.whatcom.wa.us • Jack Louws - JLouws@co.whatcom.wa.us • Peter Goldmark – DNR commissioner cpl@dnr.wa.gov • Mark Mauren – Head of Recreation - mark.mauren@dnr.wa.gov • Steve Jennison – Baker District Manager - steve.jennison@dnr.wa.gov • Laurie Bergvall - Asst Region Manager - LAURIE.BERGVALL@dnr.wa.gov • Ben Cleveland - NW Region Manager - ben.cleveland@dnr.wa.gov What to write Dear (person) I'm writing in regards to the gating and closure of mtn bike trails on slide mountain. I find it very disturbing that the DNR has decided to close access instead of work with user groups to work on a plan for eventual managed access within Whatcom County. I understand that there is currently no recognized access in Whatcom County, however that shouldn't mean that user built trails cannot exist in some capacity. Its important that we allow some access, and manage it on a per-area basis. Closures should only be needed when there is scientifically documented negative impact that overrides the benefits to user access. Additionally, closing the Slide Mtn access road limits legal access to some of the best views of whatcom county. There are currently 20+ miles of accessible logging road for visitors that would be closed to access. You can see some of these views here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/71321153@N00 Please do not add a gate to Slide mountain or close the mtn bike trails. Work with user groups to figure out how to make user built trails usable until a plan can be devised to create managed recreation in Whatcom County. Sincerely, (your name)
  11. Anyone know of a shop in the Puget Sound region that stocks Sidi boots? I can't seem to find one.
  12. Hey Everyone, Was anyone up at Jones Creek this weekend? I heard the place was peppered with racist posters and wanted to see if there was any truth to that- Let's hope not as that ain't cool!
  13. Ok, reading previous post about walker valley and my own experiances, my question to everybody out there is what is proper trail etiquette? Im no newbie to trail riding, it just seems alot of people have little to no etiquette. Example, sunday, riding the chiwawa right before it splits to minow ridge, and chikiman. My brother had a head on, ended up braking his ft rotor, he tells the other group i was behind him. they wait for a few, one guy starts complaining hes almost out of gas and to hurry up and go. they take off. ok, thats fair, right? So when i meet them they are going at a pretty good speed. In my opinion to fast, knowing someone is heading toward them. when im in this situation i go alot slower or just stop untill the last person in the other group is behind me. Whats right? When on hills who has the right away? my opinion, who ever can stop safely should. So based upon your own experiances, what is proper trail etiquette?

  18. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance ORV funds lawsuit with go before the Washington State Supreme Court. Olympia, Washington – 13 February 2012 The Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance (WOHVA) and Northwest Motorcycle Association (NMA) lawsuit against the State of Washington to block the transfer of over 9.5 million dollars in offroad vehicle funds from the Nonhighway and Offroad Vehicle Activities (NOVA) account to State Parks will advance to the Washington State Supreme Court. Attorney James Buchal will be representing both organizations. In 2009 the Legislature passed House Bill 1244, which transferred the money out of the NOVA account. The NOVA account money comes from the gas tax paid by offroad vehicle users and the license tab fees on offroad vehicles (ORV). According to the Washington State Constitution gas tax collected must be used only for roads. To comply with that the state allows refunds on gas tax paid for other uses. In 1972 the offroad vehicle community supported passage of legislation that waived their right to a direct refund of the taxes they paid for ORV fuel in exchange for having those same funds “refunded” into a dedicated account to promote and protect their sport. Later on, their ORV license tab money was added to this account too. The NOVA program was established to administer these funds. All the money went to State Parks where it was not spent on offroad vehicle recreation. This was not a legitimate refund for the benefit of these taxpayers. The NOVA funding is normally distributed by the State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board in the form of grants. These grants are awarded to governmental agencies such as the United States Forest Service, the Washington Department of Natural Resources and various counties. It is the primary source of funding for offroad vehicle recreation and for law enforcement on public lands in Washington. If this funding is not returned to benefit the taxpayers that paid for it, families and their children throughout the State of Washington will lose the healthy outdoor recreational opportunities they were promised and for which they paid their taxes and ORV tab fees, as the trails they have enjoyed together are closed. Additionally, public employees throughout Washington who maintain and patrol those trails will lose their jobs. The Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance and the Northwest Motorcycle Association are nonprofit organizations dedicated to protecting and promoting off highway vehicle and offroad motorcycle recreation.
