Has anyone replaced the phillips type JIS screws that hold the oil pump and rotary filter cover with allen bolts? The oem screws are pretty soft and easily warped or stripped even with a new bit in an impact driver. Is there an upgrade to these parts? Thanks for any info shared.

XR200 I need info on 11.1:1 high comp piston for 1984 xr200
WolfMarksman posted a topic in XR/CRF80-200
I recently got a rebuild/restoration project in the form of a 1984 xr200 twin shock. It had a atc motor in it so i bought a mid way rebuild xr200 motor (some assembly required) and was told to get a wiseco 11.1 : 1 high compression piston (stock bore) for the motor. Obviously I did, and now I have to figure out what else do I need to do to the motor to make it all work, and keep it reliable. Do i need to re jet the carb, get better head studs, hone the cylinder, modify the exhaust? Any and all help is appreciated. Thankyou in advance. -
So I messed up and got 66mm rings instead of 65.5 which I believe is the correct size rings for stock bore on a 1990 xr 200. Can I just gap to spec and send it or do I need to buy some 65.5mm rings?? Sorry if its a no-brainer but I hate to wait for more rings to come in the mail if there's no reason to.

Hi, I posted this in the fuel and jetting page, but I thought I'd try this page too to see if there might be some bike specific insight that might help with my issue. My '02 XR200 ran great on Friday, then Saturday I wouldn't rev out past about 1/4-1/3 throttle. It just starts to sputter and bog. If I keep the throttle on without backing it off, it will die. Just overnight this change happened. I've tried almost everything since then. I cleaned the carb and jets, checked the needle clip position, I replaced the air filter, I even tried it without the air filter, I checked for carbon build up in the exhaust, I checked all of the fuel lines for blockage or kinks, checked the fuel cap breather, I put new gas in it, then I cleaned the carb two more times. It was suggested to me to check the valves for the proper clearance, which I will do, but I don't believe this is a symptom of that. I ordered a carb kit just to see if maybe a jet is just old or something, but that hasn't come in yet. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I just bought a 1980 xr200 which has nonstandard rear wheel, looks like a 85+ xr250 but has (4 bearings)? and no bearing retainer. 50 tooth sproket mounts on a 6" flange with six solid studs, 36spokes , and 18" rims. Does anyone know the model the wheel came from.

Hello, It's my first post here, although I've searched the forums many times. I'm working on an 1987 XL 185 that had been sitting many years. I've tanked the carb. Should you be able to blow through the idle jet? The side holes are clear, but I can't blow through the whole jet. I've tried using welding tip cleaners, but can't get through. It seems to me if it's drilled, I should be able to blow through. PS, I found a new trick; I heated the jets briefly with MAP gas torch, and cooled. The residual fuel tar turned to black dust and fell out. I guess I should be careful, as I assume the brass melts easily. If anyone could comment on the idle jet passages, that would be great. Thanks, Rob in Ontario

Alright, so I bought my first dirtbike a honda xr200r. And I've noticed some problems with the shifting. It runs through the gears fine but finding neutral sometimes is pretty difficult. You have to roll the bike back to get it sometimes. And now it's doing this weird thing where if you put it in neutral. Itll jump into gear. Not all the time but its done it twice. Its got fresh oil and the previous owner put a new clutch in it. Any help is appreciated.

Can anybody tell me if I can put 86 xr200 Forks on a 2001 xr200 without having to change the triple tree. And can I use the rear shock from an 86 on the 2001? Thank you for any help on this.

looking for replacement rear shock on a 1995 XR200R. can't find the factory part, or the after market part, and wondering if anone knows of something that might be close enough. bought the rebuild kit for the stock part before I took the shock off (yes I'm a moron too), and it says "do not open", so am guessing it had already been replaced, but it doesn't have any other marks or numbers on it. looking for this crowd to throw me a hail mary.

Hey forum, :Just picked up a Honda 1979 XR185 for 300$ and I got some work on my hands, I'm looking for some advice on one of the many problems. The carb needs a rebuild or replacement, I'm not sure if its better: Extract the pilot jet the broke off from previous owner, purchase a rebuild kit, and rebuild. Or buy a cost affective Chinese carb that fits... My question is which is more cost affective, and if I did go the Chinese route would the carb work correctly with this year? I live in Canada so shipping will be expensive. thanks guys!

I’ve got a 1990 xr200r with a missing air box. The person I bought the bike for doesn’t have the air box so I’ve been trying to find a replacement. Does anyone know what air box would be compatible or if I can find a replacement. I’m also looking for a mud guard/flap.

I have a carburetor that I bought off of ebay that looks to be a 1999. I will be trying to register the bike in California, so it probably should have a California carburetor. The California carb is indicated by the model number on the carb. This carb has PD cast in the body, and the number stamped below it is 97ACPK. Can someone with a legit California bike tell be if that is what their number is like? I think the other 49 states may be different with respect to the A and/or C. I suspect that AC may mean California, and A means the other states. It's also possible that California has a B instead of the A. It looks like these labels apply to 1998 through 2002 models. Also, If someone has a manual for these years, that information may be in the manual. Thank you, Toby

I'm running an XR185 engine in my little 1981' Honda CB125S on the street and this bike uses the exact same Early style breather-separator as the XL185(#17361-419-670 main breather body)which screws onto the bottom of the airbox with 3) small screws on my bike and has a tube which comes out of the top of it inside the airbox that feeds directly into the airfilter endcap, which blows oil mist back into the engine. The trap assembly used to have a small, tapered round baffle(it looked a little like a cone with slits in it) and foam filter inside of it,but it clogged-up so I removed those 2 parts:should I have modified those 2) parts somehow to allow them to separate the oil/PCV junk better? I like how the hose sticks-out the side under the bike and just empty it occasionally.. I realize a standard, aftermarket 'fix' would be just purchase a small breather filter and stick it onto the end of the breather hose:those things get really gunky and if I could keep it inside the airbox somehow similar to the OEM set-up,I'd prefer that.I would like to install an XR200 airbox but there isn't enough room on this little street bike:the airbox with battery mount are just the right size.I just want to improve this breather/separator and make it the best I can so it separates And catches the junk, and I empty it later;Plus I want it to scavenge the pressure out of the engine cases so I won't start blowing seals/gaskets,etc. I appreciate any good ideas you might have. Bill 😉

Hi guys...I'm turning my stock XR200R into a street legal bike. I've sourced an LED headlight, tailight and turn signals. I'm a little confused about the rest of it. Has anyone done exactly this? I'm wondering about a voltage regulator for LED's. ( I realize my bike was 6 V and would need to be changed to 12V) Does it have to be a D.C. regulator? Or AC? I didn't think I'd add a battery, but now I'm wondering if I got a gel pack battery and ran all the LED stuff off of that, is that a good way to go? Pro Cycle sells this https://procycle.us/product/1769 a 12 volt regulater/Rectifier that will convert your AC headlight output to charge a 12 volt battery. If i got that and a battery, would I be set?

Took my 2001 XR200R to my mechanic for a carburetor adjustment. It was bogging down in various gears... My mechanic adjusted the carburetor and restored full power to all my gears. However, in the aftermath the bike is now slow to return to idle. I can start it and it will idle well initially but after riding it for a while it will not return to a slow idle, and instead idles very high, not good... Anyway, my mechanic is a professional. He fiddled around with the carburetor and then gave up, says the carburetor is worn. Anybody else have experience with this problem? I'm thinking of buying a new carburetor. I heard Honda still makes the same carburetor. Is this true? I feel that my old 2001 bike still has a lot of life left in it so I'm thinking that it might be cost effective enough to put on a new carburetor. Are they still available? Any advice from you guys out there? Will a new carburetor fix the problem? Thanks!

Hi all. Recently just split the case on my 2002 XR200R after timing chain issues caused a lot of metal to go everywhere. After putting it all back together my clutch will not disengage, as in if I put it in gear and pull the clutch it will not roll when off and if running it starts moving. The clutch is almost brand new (not the basket though) and wouldn’t have more than 10 hours on it. The clutch lifter seems to function properly as there is tension on the lever and it moves the same distance as on my other XR200. I’ve tried adjusting the free play at the case with no success. Next I pulled the clutch out again and soaked the plates in oil for a few hours and inspected the clutch basket. There is light grooving on the basket but I didn’t think it was too bad and the clutch worked perfectly before I split the cases. I’m pretty certain I put it all back together properly as I have a manual and have done it multiple times now. The splined washer is there, friction disc is the first and last plate, ball bearing in the lifter plate is there, springs were new with the clutch. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it and how to fix it? I’ve tried riding it and pulling the clutch and slamming the back brake with no success

Bought a motion pro replacement throttle cable for my 82’ Xr200r. after battling with a high and inconsistent idle, I decided to check the difference between the new and old cables. the cables are exactly the same length, but the housing on the new cable is 1/4 - 3/8” longer, which in turn shortens the actual cable. Re installed the old beat up cable and the idle issues are gone. Attached a photo of the routing just in case I made a mistake there. I checked the part number stamped on the cable, it matches what I bought. Could this be a manufacturing mistake, or should I try another brand? Moose, all balls etc...

hey i have a 2001 xr200 that I just recently purchased, I've worked on a few bikes in the past and have worked on a few hondas mostly 50cc to 100cc , anyway I decided to take off stator cover to check for wear and I did not realize it had a wet stator so i snugged up cover and drained it through drainage hole.i then removed cover to inspect condition everything looked great so i put cover back on.Now it stuck when I try to kick it over the engine will turn one full turn and the stops dead i it will rollback the same amount is also stops dead . Kick starter will not kick over in neutral and when its in gear it spins the full rotation and again stops dead if anyone knows what is happening or how to fixit any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance
