  1. I've ordered 2 timing chain for my xr200r and neither of them are right, when I got the bike, it didn't have the chain, it's a 1996, thanks in advance
  2. So I'm the proud owner of a new to me 2002 XR200R (aka "wife bike") Got it from the original owner. Fresh oil, new plug, starts on first kick. Pretty well taken care of. And way under my intended budget. For what I intend to do and my type of riding it's fine for now. I'm a noob on dirt and a scary ass. The PO added a disc brake to the front but I think it may need adjustment. Notice the pic , it's missing a spacer if I'm right ? I do notice the front wheel a bit wobbly . I'm going to search the forum to see what spacer will fit. Edit again: So after research I believe I can order the collar for the front wheel of the 2002 250xr-- #3 44311-MG3-000COLLAR, FR. WHEEL, maybe also #5 on the drawing? Or some other things too
  3. hello! this was the past weekend. my buddy who is an Xr collector and mechanic testing his new ( to him ) Xr200 on a very very steep hill. here ( Chile V region ) we are suffering from a very long drought which makes the rides extra difficult. Hope you guys like this short vid.
  4. So I'm rebuilding my Honda Xr200r, and i'm planning to open and clean the rear shock...which oil do you recommend ? I weight around 200Lbs (85Kg) I've been reading and some people recommend Mobil 1 ATF...i can get Mobil 220 ATF which is similar (I'm in Chile). Some people recommend 2.5wt. so i'm confused...can someone help me here? Also, the rubber bumper on the rear shock desintegrated, anyone if I can replace it with another dirbike's bumper? or there is any "universal" rubber bumpers out there? If not...it is safe to ride without it? Thanks in advance
  5. I've read older posts about stroking/over boring the XR200 motor and it seemed Terry Miller was the Guru , though he's apparently no longer around. Can anyone else give advice on the job and parts to use ? As a Machinist I'll will be doing the work myself. I believe using a CRF230 piston and offsetting the crank pin in the crank halves by 4mm is 1 option. Another possible option is using a TTR225 70mm piston and connecting rod also offsetting the crank pin to gain extra stroke. Naturally I will bore the cases to suit larger cylinder liner and probably run an external oil line to camshaft end. Thanks for any advice.
  6. Will the pro link swingarm from the 1983 XR200R models fit the Dual Shock/‘Non R’ models? Best universal rear fender suggestions? Or Left & Right side panel replacement suggestions. Recently acquired the non R model. Perfect for my skill level and needs, couldn’t be more stoked (until I lockdown the plastics).
  7. Are there any valves from other Honda xr's or atc's that fit the RFVC head? Bought a 85 xr200 That is in original condition and super clean. Was told it was burning oil. Disassembled to find head, cam and rockers all in good condition. Intake valves were shot and it needed rings. Got the cylinder bored to fit a atc200x piston but need to find some valves. Realize might be unobtainable but would love to keep it original. Thanks in advance for all the knowledge and suggestions.
  8. I'm running an XR185 engine in my little 1981' Honda CB125S on the street and this bike uses the exact same Early style breather-separator as the XL185(#17361-419-670 main breather body)which screws onto the bottom of the airbox with 3) small screws on my bike and has a tube which comes out of the top of it inside the airbox that feeds directly into the airfilter endcap, which blows oil mist back into the engine. The trap assembly used to have a small, tapered round baffle(it looked a little like a cone with slits in it) and foam filter inside of it,but it clogged-up so I removed those 2 parts:should I have modified those 2) parts somehow to allow them to separate the oil/PCV junk better? I like how the hose sticks-out the side under the bike and just empty it occasionally.. I realize a standard, aftermarket 'fix' would be just purchase a small breather filter and stick it onto the end of the breather hose:those things get really gunky and if I could keep it inside the airbox somehow similar to the OEM set-up,I'd prefer that.I would like to install an XR200 airbox but there isn't enough room on this little street bike:the airbox with battery mount are just the right size.I just want to improve this breather/separator and make it the best I can so it separates And catches the junk, and I empty it later;Plus I want it to scavenge the pressure out of the engine cases so I won't start blowing seals/gaskets,etc. I appreciate any good ideas you might have. Bill 😉
  9. Hello I am in need of a air box that will fit my 94 xr. There is one on ebay for 99$ but I don't really want to spend that right now if you have one laying around let me know.
  10. IRC makes a heavy duty tube 3mil thickness vs the standard tube. Is it advised to use the heavy tube?
  11. Hi All, Does anyone know the correct front-fork oil capacity for a 1980, twin shock XR200? Thanks Doug
  12. Hi All, I had to replace the pulse generator on my 82 XR200 and now I'm trying to set the timing. The manual says to use a timing light and check the marks on the flywheel through the port on the side cover with the motor running. It sounds easy enough, but when I remove the port and start the engine I get doused in oil. WTF? I tried removing the dipstick to relieve some of the blow-by, but then I get an oil shower from both sides of the bike. Has anyone else had this issue? It seems to run good, but I want to make sure the timing is perfect.
  13. Hi this might be a weird one but since after 91 the rear shock on the xr200r is not adjustable or rebuild able I was wondering if I could swap it out with a cr125 or cr250 from around the same year.
  14. This is kind of a long story but I’ll try to keep this brief. A couple years ago the bike started burning oil. I didn’t realize how bad and I seized the engine a few ours after topping off the oil. I ended up disassembling the engine. Valves were beat up bad and there was a ton of aluminum shavings throughout. My best guess is that the timing chain was loose and rubbing against places it shouldn’t creating the shavings. Cam chain probably skipped a couple teeth so the cylinder ends up hitting the valves. After I honed the cylinder (myself with a drill attachment from harbor freight) I noticed some areas on the inside of the cylinder did not have the hatch marks, meaning those areas were recessed (not sure if that’s the right word). I ended up putting new piston rings on and new cam chain, new valves and valve stem seals and reassembled everything to see what would happen. Of course it’s still burning a ton of oil. Is it safe to assume that the recessions in the cylinder are allowing oil to pass the rings? If so, I’m trying to wrap my head around how that happened to the cylinder, because it must’ve happened prior to the engine seizing. Where do I go from here? I haven’t had much luck looking for new cylinders online. I’ve tried calling around before to see if any places near me can bore it out a bit, I may have to broaden my radius and continue looking. Thoughts?
  15. Finished converting my ‘87 XR200R suspension by mounting an 18” 250R rear wheel to my 200R swingarm and swapping the stock forks over to an ‘86 250R front end. Rear 200R shock was fully rebuilt and set up by RaceTech so I stayed with it rather than going with a full 250 swap. Front end fit right in and what a difference having actual front brakes makes. I’ve got the forks raised up in the triple tree one inch as a baseline to level the bike. Maybe because I’m just used to the greasy slide of the old drum “brake” and I’m just grabbing too much lever but I’m knifing the bike in corners way more than ever now. Slow down for a tight corner and it just tucks and augers right in. I’ve owned CRF’s and know how to ride with good brakes. I will re-set the sag after I’m sure the front end is close to the right height but right now I can’t tell if I’m too high or too low in the triple tree. Bike is visually level. Stock tire sizes front and rear. I know that in a conversion situation each bike has it’s own characteristics but does anyone who’s done this have a set drop distance for the triple tree that I can begin with or just trial and error on my part until I quit biting it in the corners?
  16. Hello I am in the process of rebuilding my 1994 xr200r and I'm putting the clutch cover on but having trouble getting the clutch to work if anyone could help me figure it out I would appreciate it.
  17. I have a 2.15x18 DID rear rim on a unknown hub and year. It might not even be a Honda. I also have a spare 85 xr200r 17in rear wheel. I would like to swap hubs from the 85 xr200r onto my 2.15x18 DID rear wheel. This will give me a 18in rear wheel with an xr200r hub. How would I know what size size spokes to get? How difficult would this swap be to lace and balance the wheel?
  18. Hey all, first time poster on this site. I’m in the midst of restoring a 1986 Honda reflex. This was Honda’s street legal trials bike. Unfortunately the only part I cannot source is the speedometer cable. The tlr200 and xr200 have very similar engines minus some gearing modifications. So I figured this would be the place to start. So far the brake cable and clutch cable matched exactly from a 83 xr200 to the reflex but not the speedometer cable. It doesn’t seem to fit into the brake assembly and it’s about 6 inches too long. Any help would be great. part no. Honda# 44830-KJ2-670 p.s. I have found one retailer in Australia that has the part but he says he can’t access it in his warehouse till 2022...
  19. im trying to test my lighting output side of my stator to see what the deal is and ive got open circuit from both sides of the lighting output to ground and .8 ohms across pink and pink/yellow stripe this is a bad stator right?
  20. I’ve got a 1990 xr200r with a missing air box. The person I bought the bike for doesn’t have the air box so I’ve been trying to find a replacement. Does anyone know what air box would be compatible or if I can find a replacement. I’m also looking for a mud guard/flap.
  21. has anyone here ever used this configuration to where they can stream line this wire up after reading up on the forums i think i know what to do but since yall have a collective knowledge base someone probably has this simplified
  22. Am i missing something here? Is it possible to remove the valve cover with the engine still in the frame. I think this would make checking the valves much easier than using the little caps?
  23. im looking at replacing my novelty homemade ammo can headlight with something significantly lighter, any recommendations from yall out there also looking around at aftermarket options and found acerbis has a led vsl headlight that is the brightest avaliable but it runs on dc voltage, can i run this with a configuration of regulator and rectifier? or does anyone know of a better option *correction* the baja squadron pro is the brightest i can find but the vsl is less than half the price and only slightly less bright
  24. Hey all, recently rebuilt '88 xr200r stock bore wiseco everything fresh, new rod, crank bearings everything, cam chain new, sprockets new, tensioners new...ran quiet before I installed megacycle cam. Question is: is anyone who runs aftermarket cams in their little 200s, do they inherently make alot of noise? Lash is set to .005 both valves. Which is what megacycle calls for. I went to. 004 but just as noisy. Don't really want to go tighter Another note: piston to valve clearances all checked before final assembly. And I've rebuilt dozens of XR engines, especially the 200. To the point I bet I could do it blindfolded. But I've never installed a cam.
  25. Fellow Thumpers, Just scored a '99 xr200r a couple of weeks back and like so many others with these bikes, I needed to overhaul my carb. I cleaned it thoroughly, replaced all gaskets, jets, screws, etc. And alas, after a few too many beers and in my haste to reassemble my new friend, I believe that I inserted my throttle slide in too hard without aligning it properly and broke a little metal piece in the side of the inner carburetor. I assume my motor has now eaten that piece of metal as I have started it a few more times since realizing that this is likely my problem. Is this cause to worry or shall I cross my fingers, hope the metal is soft and brap on? When kicked over, the bike screams at idle and it feels like the throttle is wide open. I adjusted all of my screws per my repair manuals instructions so I assume that the carb is now worthless and needs to be replaced. My question is this: I cannot find the keihin PD97A that I hope to hunt down anywhere online. Does anybody know of a good replacement that is not a $20 dollar knockoff that I may be able to find? Maybe a Mikuni that will fit? Or a keihin that is in production? To my knowledge this bike is mostly stock and I will be mostly trail riding with it. Chuck? Thanks, -Julian R.
