  1. Pulled my sweetheart ‘82 218r out of mothballs the other day. I had tried to build a reliable 12vdc system using the stock super weak stator. That didn’t really work out. I am going back to a simpler set up with just head and tail lights similar to stock. I found this led bulb years ago that was happy to run on acv. So I though to myself I wonder if it even needs this TT ac voltage regulator? Story ends with me letting the smoke out of this bulb. So now I’m trying to find a replacement bulb. Do any of you have a favorite? Needs to run on acv.
  2. I read somewhere on here that any a CRF150F exhaust will bolt up to a XR200R. Does anybody know for sure? I'm looking for an aftermarket pipe for my 1991 XR200R project and so far the only available options I'm finding are the XR's Only pipe and a Supertrapp exhaust. All others are no available or discontinued. Thanks Stewart
  3. The rear shocks on our xr200 are shot so I'm looking for inexpensive ideas on replacements. I noticed these chiness shocks on ebay. Has anyone tried something like this?
  4. Ok, so here’s my issue. Rebuilt the engine and rode it for about 20 min and... POW... no more running. The timing chain is in 4 pieces. I thought maybe it was my cheap eBay timing chain so I buy a more expensive one and while installing it I see the two bolts holding on the timing chain gear had slammed into the pulse generator base housing and even broke the bolt. I bought stainless button head bolts to lower the profile of the bolt head and reinstalled everything. Now when I go to tighten the pulse gen bolts tight, it pinches the timing chain and won’t let it kick over? Anyone been down this road? Thanks
  5. Hey guys, I just picked up a 1997 XR200 for $200 (Canadian $). it needs some work and I am new to the bike. I ordered a service manual. I was told it needs a kick start idle gear, some work on the wiring harness, front and rear brakes are not working and it needs some clamps to get the exhaust back on. the stator cover and clutch cover were JB welded in places so will likely replace those. Carb was done over, top end was done over. Rubber is good front and back, shocks are good. frame was just painted and the plastics are good. Do you guys think this was a good deal and am i in for a lot of work? I plan on taking my time with it and getting it ready for next summer. Just looking for some input as this is my first dirt bike, I've always drove quads. I have a spare engine out of a 2002 xr200 to use for parts thats already all broken down. Any suggestions though would be great! Thank you!
  6. So i have a 1997 XR200. The shock is ok, but i picked up a rear shock from a 1982 model for cheap as i hear they are able to be rebuilt and are a better shock. Can someone link me the items required to rebuild it? Thanks, Jon
  7. Just wondering if someone has one that could measure the stem length?
  8. Anyone have one of these springs? I removed my clutch cover as the bike wouldn’t move. Previous owner said he had the cover off. Missing 3 bolts for cover along with the spring. If you have one or a 200 that you are parting, please let me know. Thanks
  9. Does anyone have a video of what the bike sounds like without the baffle?
  10. The gas tank decided to crack when my daughter took a fall. Looking for a replacement (2000 XR 200). Like looking for a unicorn. Question is, do any other Honda XR tanks fit this bike? Doesn't have to be perfect. Curious if anyone knows if for instance a XR 600 tank will fit? Anybody crossed over with a different tank? Clarke used to make a tank for this bike but they quit and are out of stock. Of course. IMS and Acerbis never made one so I'm stuck looking on ebay and there are none out there. Suggestions?
  11. Can anyone show me pictures of the insert that is missing please thanks mick
  12. I bought a 2002 xr200r recently and have been working on getting it right and planning on slowly incorporating mods later on but as of right now im trying to get it running smoothly as per the clymer manual i have, my problem today is that the thing will not idle in the range the book says(1300-1500) it is always either high(1700) or low(900) im trying to set my idle drop adjustment but the first thing you have to do is set the idle and i cant even get that....any ideas? disregard the improvised air box cover that has been since improved upon
  13. Am i missing something here? Is it possible to remove the valve cover with the engine still in the frame. I think this would make checking the valves much easier than using the little caps?
  14. Finished converting my ‘87 XR200R suspension by mounting an 18” 250R rear wheel to my 200R swingarm and swapping the stock forks over to an ‘86 250R front end. Rear 200R shock was fully rebuilt and set up by RaceTech so I stayed with it rather than going with a full 250 swap. Front end fit right in and what a difference having actual front brakes makes. I’ve got the forks raised up in the triple tree one inch as a baseline to level the bike. Maybe because I’m just used to the greasy slide of the old drum “brake” and I’m just grabbing too much lever but I’m knifing the bike in corners way more than ever now. Slow down for a tight corner and it just tucks and augers right in. I’ve owned CRF’s and know how to ride with good brakes. I will re-set the sag after I’m sure the front end is close to the right height but right now I can’t tell if I’m too high or too low in the triple tree. Bike is visually level. Stock tire sizes front and rear. I know that in a conversion situation each bike has it’s own characteristics but does anyone who’s done this have a set drop distance for the triple tree that I can begin with or just trial and error on my part until I quit biting it in the corners?
  15. Hello I am in need of a air box that will fit my 94 xr. There is one on ebay for 99$ but I don't really want to spend that right now if you have one laying around let me know.
  16. Just an intro. Been riding 52 years, but haven't been on a dirt bike in about 40. Bought an unmolested 02 xr200 for the GF's 15 YO son. Its a nice, nimble, lightweight little trail bike that's a blast to ride. Lots of rainy days lately to troll the forum in search of just a little more power. It is what it is, which may be good for the youngster. Been through the performance threads on this forum. After which reading i have a 12 tooth sprocket on order, and going thru the rest of the bike to get it back to normal. The GF rides also, but has never been on a dirt bike. Current street bike is a 19 Triumph 765 Street Triple RS, so its just under 3 lbs/hp.
  17. I’ve been rebuilding a 1993 xr200r that was in pretty rough shape. Replaced bent valves, cam chain, rebuilt crankcase that was full of aluminum shavings, etc. The cylinder was badly misshapen, so I had it bored to 66mm (the maximum for this make/model from what I understand). I ordered a 66mm piston with rings. I rebuilt everything, but when I tried to start it, it won’t idle. At first I thought carburetor issue, but after cleaning several times I decided to test the compression. Compression was right around 100. After putting a small amount of oil in the cylinder, it went up closer to 150 (still far from 199 standard). I blew compressed air into the cylinder through spark plug hole and couldn’t sense any intake or exhaust valve leak when the piston was in the correct position. So I re-checked the packaging the piston came in, and turns out they sent me 65.5mm. Is this enough to cause the major compression issues I’m facing? Additional question because I am baffled about this. When I was blowing compressed air into the cylinder, it would cause either the intake or exhaust rocker arm to move and compress the corresponding valve depending on where the piston was in its stroke. I cannot figure out why air pressure in the cylinder would move the rocker arms. I tried to hold them back while doing this but it seems the cam shaft was turning slightly and forcing the rocker arms to compress the valves. Anyone know why this would happen?
  18. Hey. I have a 1994 Xr200r that has a 1984 Shock in it. I am looking for a bigger spring. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get one.?
  19. Thanks for the add...I am about to start building a newly purchased 1990 Honda XR200R into a flat tracker for the Mad Dog class. Does anyone know what size the front and rear wheel bearings are? Looking to source some ceramic bearings for it. Thanks!
  20. Not sure if this is the right thread but it’s what I found. So I bought a new carb for my xr200r as I needed a replacement. The problem I have is the part that goes from the throttle cable to thread on the top of carb is not removable. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but I couldn’t find any results. In the photo you will see what I need to switch out. So is this removable and if so how do I do so. If I can’t what would you suggest I do.
  21. I have an 81' XL185(running an XR200 piston and camshaft) with stock 6vt system and I want to install the stator from a 1983' XL200R to turn it into a 12vt. system.I ride the bike on the street and like 12vts. I have all the stock parts from the XL200R wiring system but rather than doing a complete swap with everything,I want to see if a partial swap is possible with just the XL200R 12vt. stator and regulator/rectifier and then replace all the stock XL185 bulbs, horn, etc. from 6vt to 12vts.
  22. Does anybody know what the stock shock spring rate is on a1991 XR200R? It's a red spring. Race Tech online calculator says it's a 11.2Kg stock and it says for my 200lb butt to use a 10.7Kg spring. Based on previous experience when setting up suspension for my weight the shock spring rate has gone up at least one size. Seems odd I would be going to a lesser rate spring rate especially on a XR200R. I would think the 200 would be set up for a 130lb to 150lb rider form the factory. What do you guys think? Ya'll think the stock spring is really a 11.2Kg stock or is Race Tech online info wrong. I've got an email in to them about this. Thanks Stewart
  23. Looks like these lash screws from my nc300 would bolt right into the 200. At the very least the 8mm nuts would take a bit of weight out of the valve train.
  24. During the last month of the 2020 season, my beloved 1990 XR200r began to use excessive oil. The compression was quite good but, the bike smoked for about 4-6 minutes after starting. After that, motor really performed well with no visible smoke or smell. Just popped the motor out for inspection (photos attached) and found the cylinder head and piston surface caked with hardened carbon. Valves and seats appear to be OK....unsure if the seals are worn or too loose. Your thoughts on past experience with symptoms would be appreciated. Note: I could really use a new set of those super elusive valve rockers. What is everybody else using?? Thanks for looking, Scott
  25. Hey all, my first post in here. Looking for some advice on high power XR200s please. I'm building an engine to go in my flat tracker - current spec is: - 65.5mm bore with new rings and honed barrel - High lift race cam from Phil Joy in the UK - 28mm Naraku flat slide carb on custom 31mm stainless manifold - Go kart airbox and filter (due to the nature fo the BEACH racing meaning a pod filter isn't the best idea...) - Big valve head (31mm intake and 28mm exhaust) - All engine bearings (- crank bearings) replaced in full rebuild and inspection - Total loss ignition with ignition advance on CDI - TLR type crank ignition Stuck on exhausts, diameter, length etc. All ideas are appreciated and welcomely received. Looking for a right hand exit underbelly exhaust I know of a 304 stainless system I can get for ~£90 but it's only 33mm id whereas I've read before that 36 is best for these engines. My other option is to get a custom one made at a local shop which will be closer to £250 I'd say, not the end of the world if it makes a lot of difference, but if it's marginal gains Ill just save myself the money and get the smaller one. Thanks!
