It's my first off road bike, it's too heavy, too powerful, needs too much maintenance, and I love the living crap out of it.

I purchased her in 2006 from original owner :-) Since then I refreshed the topend and did basic mods. Great bike but a little heavy now that I'm older. MODS : Super Trapp tunable exhaust and headers, Cycra Billet Probend hand guard kit barends, MS grips Moose offroad Bar, K+P Reusable Oil Filter, rear shock cover, new front brake pads and new Dunlop tires, triple clamp tie down eyelets, Emgo rear view mirror. Fat foot pegs, New Chain, 15T drive sprocket, Anodized Blue shock air stem caps, Anodized Blue gas cap vent and Anodized Blue rim holder bolts. MODS on hand but not installed yet: Baja skid plate ( new in bag), Devol oil filter guard (new in package), 3 extra rear sprockets ( 45T, 50T, 52T ), 1 oem front sprocket, 2 new extra plugs (hot and cold). extra front fender, New Moose HD rear tube and rim strips, extra frt + rear wheels. Top end rebuilt. (rings and valves, seals) I rode it 3 times since the rebuild (40 miles). Maintenance: Just changed eng oil (Honda Pro), new spark plug( NGK), new air filter(ProFilter) 26APR2013*** *** Painted front forks (red) and rotor/ fork guards (blue) 02MAY2013***

The original owner broke his femur first ride and never rode it again. There's a little rash on the plastic, but it's 100% original.

    86 XR600 Help!

Hello, i just picked up an 86 XR600 with the dual carbs, and i need to know what twist throttle and throttle cables are compatible with this bike, whether it be from another XR, or a universal fit.

Bought this bike a year ago with some history. When I was 5 years old, my uncle bought this bike brand new. He'd give us kids rides around the small town my grandma lived in, and thoroughly got me hooked on two wheels. It was the activity of choice when we went to visit our grandma. He owned it up until about 6 years ago, sold it to a kid not far from where I live. Last year I was determined to get a dirt bike to ride with my son who has a little SSR 125 pit bike, so I started hunting. After not much success finding an enduro that I liked, I thought of my uncle's bike and where that might be, so I tracked it down. The kid didn't want to sell it, but I told him my history with it and he was sympathetic. $1,000 and a .40 cal S&W trade later, I was then a XR owner. The bike needed some TLC, my uncle always had it stored inside, and it was mint the last time I'd seen it. Not so much when I picked it up! Five years of being stored along side a barn, it was a little rough around the edges. A few weeks with the help of my wife and kids, some new tires, chain, sprockets, fork boots, carb cleaning and a little paint later and I got a sweet rig. It continues to create memories with my sons and daughters, giving them rides and creating the same joy I was exposed to as a kid. My youngest son is 4, and it's his favorite past time. Dirt bike adventure day with Dad day! Love it...
  16. We were running HARD in the dunes of Pismo this weekend and my 94 XR600 started making expensive noises. It sounds light but loud, random but constant clattering at higher RPMs and under load. It sounds like the top end to me. (I have had rod-end bearings go bad in a ninja 900, this doesn’t sound that deep) I was able to lug it back to camp. At lower RPMs the noise is not as frequent. I pulled the valve caps and everything seams fine. The valves might be a little loose, but they are moving. -She still runs well. -Is there any diagnostic I should do before I start tearing my bike apart? -Should I look for another bike? I love my XR. -I have 12 days before I was taking her to KOH. I hope she’ll be ready.

    Xr600 low oil after rides?

So I use my xr600 for commuting and long highway speed rides and every time I'm done riding I notice the oil level is down almost a quart at times. I check the level at fuel stops but it always seems ok. It's only after the bike sits for about 30 minutes to an hour does it show that its low. Is this normal? Is it burning oil? Or am I losing oil out of the case breather hose? Just wanna make sure I don't need to look further into engine issues. Thanks in advance.
  21. Just picked up a Cyclops LED headlight/bulb http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/3600-Lumen-LED-Headlight-bulb-for-DirtbikesDual-Sports_p_97.html conversion for my '95 XR 600R. My original bulb burnt out and I went down to pick up a new one and the lovely young lady behind the parts counter turned me onto this pretty much plug-n-play LED conversion kit. Installation was very easy, simply unplug the old bulb and install the new one... depending on which plug you have on your bike you may or may not have to modify the wiring... I had to modify. I cut the old bullet connectors from the original plug and soldered them to the rectifier leads and was ready to install it. It's pretty much that simple. The unit looks to be well built, has its own cooling fan and heat sink which I hope holds up to some fairly harsh abuse (dirt/dust/water/mud). The light is BRIGHT and only fluxuates slightly at idle... torture testing begins immediately. With an out the door price of around $100 it's a decent alternative to higher priced kits available online and with the ease of installation you really can't beat it.

Love the torque of the "Ol Girl"! Picked it up for $1,650.00 about a year ago. It was converted to CA street legal back in the day when you could. Not for everyone though. Can be a bear to kick start from time to time. But once you ride it you'll be hooked on the power. <br />

My trusty pig. I got this bike when I was 16. This was the first major purchase I ever had (got this instead of a car). After the first twist of the throttle on the test ride I was hooked. Almost 30 years old, this bike is still thumping like it was new. Don't think I'll be outgrowing this one.
