  1. i just did the valves on my 07yz250f and it was running great until the other day. it started to tick. so i shut it off as soon as i heard the tick and checked my clearances. i put them all back to proper clearances and the tick went away, but it shuts off after running for a little while. my best way of explaining it would be i put it in neutral and gave it some revs, not too high just kinda blipping the throttle, and after maybe 5 to 10 minutes it just shut off. no bog no nothing it just stopped. then started back up. i was wondering what the problem could be and if it would be expensive to fix. thanks in advanced.
  2. Im new to 4 strokes I’m gonna be going to look at a 2013 YZ250f the guy says he’s the original owner and has 79 hours on it and everything was gone through in may and everything was in spec. Bike was also never raced. I’m wondering if there’s any common problems with the 2013 and at how many hours should the top end be done at? Is 79 hours a lot? I know I’ve heard people say they’ve gone to 150 hours with regular maintenance but I plan to race the bike and just want to make sure everything is gonna be good to go. Any input would be great thanks.

  4. Was looking around for a used FX but they are few and far between. Came across a 2019 yz250f for sale and wondering if that would be a good off road bike? Its got electric start so thats a bonus. I know suspension will be stiffer, smaller tank, 19 rear wheel etc... Just curious if anyone has time on one vs FX as a woods bike? Or if people think its worth holding out for an FX. Thanks for your opinions

  6. Anyone have an extra Joint, Carburetor 3? I just bought my first bike and I need to replace this air boot. I cannot find it in stock anywhere. I tried rocky mountain, local shops, ebay etc. No one knows when it will be available form the manufacturer. Please help! Its for a 2002 YZ250F. Part number is 5NL-13597-10-00. Thanks!
  7. I need help with choosing whether i should buy a YZ250F 2018 or 2019, i’m going to be using it for trail riding, light enduro. There is a lot of long straight trails and all sorts. I don’t mind kicking it over, but does the bike have any major differences, which one should i get? i can get a 2018 for a good deal, i have yet to find a 2019.

Was out on a ride came back and my hose on the end of the frame oil line had frayed and burst on me as I cut the bike off! the metal line itself is perfectly fine it’s just the hose, how do I go about replacing/fixing this problem ? Any suggestions ? I will also be investing in a belly pan after this issue is worked out thanks
  9. Going to upgrade my 2020 yz250f from stock to something great and wondering what are some of the main things I should buy to increase horsepower, control, and looks a little bit. Mostly focused on the power aspect of the bike and control. What tires work best all around for racing. Not something specific for soft or hard pack. Also I’m only 5’7” and 125lbs so keep that in mind. I really want to set it up perfect for me. If you have any questions about this feel free to ask.
  10. I recently bought a non-running 2007 yz250f to either fix or part out. Some fresh fuel, cleaned carb, and a new choke plunger was all it took to start, but it only runs for a few seconds before it shuts off. Its a hard shutoff, not a slow stall. Then when I kick it, it's SUPER hard for one kick then feels like it "breaks free". The engine sounds healthy, no ticks or knocks, but it really acts like there's something mechanically wrong with it. I went ahead and pulled the top end to checked valve clearance (I don't have proper feeler gauges, so that's up in the air). All that to say, is this discoloration on the crank an indication of a spun rod bearing, or is it from manufacturing the crank? There's no up/down play, and it feels okay. Not great, not bad, just okay.
  11. I bought a 04 Yz250f a week ago. I got screwed! Upon further inspection I’ve found a few problems and it won’t stay running. I went to change the oil and found that someone plugged the oil lines coming from the frame oil? Why would someone do that?
  12. So just picked up a new 2020 YZ250f. Stupidly I didnt fire it up at the dealership, it was a Saturday and I just wanted to get out of there. Get it home and start it for the first time and it is blowing smoke. Smells like oil to me, not premix type smell obviously but more like getting behind an old honda civic on the highway. Talked to the dealer service dept and they are thinking it's a breakin situation and to give it some time. Anyone else have this issue? Is this normal? Last new bike I bought was a 2017 RMZ250 and it didnt do this.

  16. Hey all, I tried searching the internet for information regarding this, as well as this forum, but was unable to find any useful info. I just bought a 2002 yz250f and as the bike is new to me I of course wanted to do an oil change. The perplexing part is the only area I found to add oil was on the frame where the dip stick is. I watched a YouTube video of an oil change on an 03 and there was both the frame and the engine that had areas to add oil. I drained oil from both the frame and engine when changing it. Just wanted to make sure I'm not going to harm my engine by not adding oil else where. Thanks!

  18. I’m in the middle of doing a top end rebuild on my 07 yz250f. I found a weird mark at the top of my cylinder. I tried to hone it out and the mark just got bigger. Do I need to replace the cylinder?
  19. Hi I have a 2004 YZ250F and I just found out my forks are binding and I’ve only went on one ride. Do you guys think it damaged anything or do I need to replace anything in my forks.
  20. Hi all new here I have been lurking this site so I mine as well make a account. I recently got a 06 yz 250f and the guy complained it kept locking up. So I tore it down and discovered the piston is broken to hell. The valves appearance wise look ok , crank looks ok but as i know I'll have to check them out accurately. This will be my first hands on rebuild I'm hoping to get by with a new piston. My question and other questions to come , but for now why would a piston tear apart like that? The connecting rod has no up or down play slight side to side barely any. The piston says it's a wiseco 12:5:1 the connecting rod says hot rods. I'm assuming the previous guy had work done. I have some pictures as well. Is 12:5:1 stock ? I'm going to have to figure out getting the chunks of piston out the bottom, looks like I caught it before it tore everything up. Would a new cam chain and piston get me by. I'm learning as I go. Thanks
  21. I rebuilt the carb and put everything back together. When I tried starting it, it started with the choke on and ran fine but would die when I turned it off. I found that the hot start was loose and not seated properly. I screwed that in and now it won’t start on choke. If I push the hot start it will start but it dies out quickly. Any turn of the throttle kills it too. I used an All Balls 26-1282 Carburetor Rebuild Kit so all jets are OEM sizes. I have the fuel screw 2 turns out. Valves are in spec and before I tried starting it I cleaned out the gas tank and replaced the packing and O-ring in the petcock. I didn’t want any crud getting in the carb after I rebuilt it. What am I missing? Any help is appreciated. I also replaced the kickstart spindle assembly during all this but it did start and run fine on choke after that. Thanks
  22. Hi crew. Do to job constraints and other issues, I have been unable to ride my 2016 YZ250F for about 14 months. I have some time off and looking to get it ready to ride again. I am going to take the tank off and drain the old fuel as a start. I am concerned about other issues I will face, like fuel pump, brakes and suspension components not being used for so long. The only positive is the bike is near new, only managed to put 13hrs on it from new before I was unable to ride it. So it doesn't have much use and the concerns are merely the fact that it's been sitting un-started for so long and fluids doing damage. What are the known problems I will face and what should be disassembled and looked over before I fire it up again. My main concern is fuel sitting in the fuel body/pump. Any pointers and links/websites/info would be much appreciated! Thanks for any advice and time!

  24. So i bought a 06 yz250f today and long story short bike bogged and backfired so i figured carb rebuild. I took the seat off to find there was no air filter.... im obviously going to get a air filter and clean and rebuild carb but do you think ill be safe without tearing motor apart? There was barley any dirt or debris in the air box. Never tore into a four stroke so trying to avoid if possible.

So I have a 2003 yz250f I bought with a blown motor, I rebuilt it and was having a hell of a time starting it until I put the clutch in (in neutral this whole time) then it seems to start first kick, even if I stall it. I can’t find anything that says that these bikes have a safety feature that requires the clutch to be in but maybe there is. I know the valves need to be adjust and will do this anyway but was this just a fluke? Or is it a thing you have to do, thanks for any help
