  1. So the camshaft bearing snapped and got in the valves and locked the motor what damage you think it did to the bike? Had oil and coolant so idk
  2. So I've got a 1993 husky wxc250 2t , but that doesn't matter too much I just need a starting point on something that went wrong. I was about ten minutes into my ride when this happened - I was about halfway through third gear, not an excessive rpm, and I heard a very aggressive noise from the motor, I pulled in the clutch and coasted to a stop (the motor had died). I was almost positive I had blown the motor and it was going to be seized. But when I pushed the kick starter down everything was fine. I pushed it back home, pulled the plug, turned it over, turned it through all the gears and nothing felt wrong. So I figured I would just start it up and give it a shot. I started it up and it sounded fine on idle, but as soon as a gave it any throttle a very loud "clanking" noise came from the top end. Almost comparable to a rod knock, but I can tell it is coming from the top end. My best guess would be something in the power valves, I am experienced with working on motors but power valves are new to me. What do you guys think it is? I'm just looking for I tip before I tear into it. Thanks in advance - Devin
  3. Hello there, today I just finished putting my bike together for the second time now after it keeps seizing up I originally pulled it apart because the shift drum cracked and transmission was damaged the bike ran fine before I pulled it down it never missed a beat. I went to put it back together after I rebuild the transmission and put new crank barings in when I went to start it, it just wanted to seize up I thought this might have been the Piston because it seemed a bit old at 168 hours so I got a new one put it all back together same issues it idels fine but when you go to accelerate at wants to seize up, then it gets hard to kick. no it's not the timming like 10 million people have said it's some weird bottom end issue could be the crank or rod even tho they were perfectly fine before it was pulled down. when it seizes up you just put it in gear and pull it back and it's fine again so confused on wtf is happening please help. cheers blake
  4. My 2009 yz250 with 20 hours blew up. Trying to figure out why it blew up so I don’t make the same mistake again. I was running 40-1 klotz. Weisco piston, 91 pump gas. Fmf Fatty pipe and shorty running a 78 main and 45 pilot. It blew up the first ride in the dunes.
  5. About 60hrs on top end and who knows how many on the crank, not sure if the previous owner who rebuilt the top end included a new crank or not but it seems like the crankshaft shat out on me, was doin an entire day of riding then just after havin the bike off for a couple minutes and gettin back on it i started it up went up a tiny hill in first gear, low rpms suddenly i hear a rattle and the bike dies, we then got it back to the garage and did some basic checkovers to see what happened, theres a bit of shavings in the oil filter, we drained the oil and there wasnt any noticable amounts when we drained it just in the filter, we opened the head and all the valves were still in pristine condition, and it still kicks over seems like the piston moves fine, but when we got it started which was very hard to do it just rattles and dies almost instantly, didnt run it after that to prevent further damage but thats how it is at the moment ,anyone know if its the crankshaft is gone or crank bearings or smthg else, the only thing i noticed was a week ago the kickstarter started misbehaving as in it would kick you back sometimes or just slide and not do anything i figured i most likely broke a tooth on the kickstarted gear and it was slipping or smthg.
  6. Was riding wide open in 5th and the crank locked up completely tore it down to find the top end was trashed as well just wanting to see if I can save my cases
  7. Blew top and bottom end last week and my cylinder, piston , crank , head are all destroyed, not sure about anything else yet . I wanted to know if anyone knew where to get a brand new oem cylinder, everywhere has shown that they were out of stock or not able to be added to my cart. If anyone knows where I can get a new oem cylinder please let me know where and a price if possible , thank you
  8. On letgo someone is selling a “crf 450 2011 blown up”. I don’t have any experience with engines except for research I have done on my own but I have done at least 20 hours of research probably. I know someone who is a retired mechanic if I have questions. Is it worth it? I have a little over $1,000 dollars but I can keep the bike till I save up more money if it’s a really good deal
  9. Had my bike tapped out on pavement then she locked right up, held the clutch, came to a stop, loaded her up, top end looks perfect. Trying to find the next best bottom end to OEM standards.. I didn’t expect anything of this kind of nature but here we are and I believe it’s only the bottom bearing on my rod, Hope I can get some suggestions on getting parts and also is there any suggestions for tools (crankcase splitter, flywheel puller, bearing and seal driver) as I’m on my way to Edmonton tomorrow for a break the bank kind of day, any opinions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!
  10. Anyone ever had this happen to them? First practice of the day I got the bike warmed up for 5 or so minutes and pulled off. Second time out the bike locked up in the air over a jump on lap 2. Pulled the motor apart and found second gear in pieces and a lot of other transmission components got chewed up from it. Parts being replaced are: 2nd gear, 2nd pinion gear, 5th gear, shift drum, all 3 shift forks, both shift guides plus all the washers, circlips, and bearings. The bike is a 2011 so should I play it safe and replace the entire transmission since it’s opened and I’m already replacing most of it? I can imagine that both shafts might have been bent slightly and the other gears have the possibility of grenading at any time. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks 2nd gear
  11. My friend is about to buy a blown up Cr 250, the piston has a lot of scratches, but the cylinder looks pretty good and has nikasil. My question is can i put a new piston and let the cylinder like that, or I need to work on the cylinder too?
  12. Hi just looking for some advise as i just bought a tm 300 2 stroke 2004 and unfortunately its overheated and damaged the piston and head so i was just wondering as im new to 2 strokes what kind of damage ive done and what else to check for and you’ll see the damage in the photos. For some reason the air filter has come off which i thought it would make it run a bit lean plus i did the fuel ratio at 40-1 rather than 33-1 so yeah my fault but im looking to repair the bike and to get it back running again.
  13. I’ve just gotten this bike last month. It’s a 2020 kx 85 and it has done great since. The bike was amazing and when I first got it with no problems. Last week me and my friends went riding for 4 hours. When I started to ride back to my house the bike sputtered and I could feel some lag in the throttle. I was in 4th gear when the engine just completely shut down and I had to pull in the clutch and go to the side of the road. I thought nothing of it at the moment. Usually the bike starts 1st kick but it took about 5 kicks to start it up again. I went on for a quarter mile then the bike died again. This time it wouldn’t start no matter what. I kicked about 50 times turning the choke on and off, checking if the gas was off but nothing would work. At a top of a hill I tried to bump start it. I heard it start for maybe a second but immediately died right after. The bike was hot too so I don’t understand. The bike still has the same compression as before. I’m fairly new to dirt biking so I have no idea what the problem is.
  14. Project bike. This is a full ground up restore. Gorr replated cylinder, resurfaced head and con-rod rebuild to standard specs. This bike has seized 2 pistons in under 5 minutes. The first one (wiseco) I thought I cold seized it. The second one (OEM) did the same thing but lasted a few minutes longer. Both pistons look about the same (see pics)with scratching mostly on the intake side. Cylinder will be fine after cleaning. I checked ring gap, cylinder bore and piston diameter and all were in spec according to my Harbor Freight T-gauge and micrometer and Kawasaki service manual. I did not heat cycle though.... I just warmed it up , putted around slowly for a few minutes and revved it out a few times but never super high rpm. It has stock jetting. My only guess is a bad left seal (but its new?) or the lower cylinder diameter is off. No clue though. I'm really surprised as I have never seized a bike since I was 14 years old (34 years ago). If there are any cylinder/piston wisper'ers out there... your opinion is appreciated.
