  1. Recently,I took a trip out to Colorado for some R&R on a family vacation. I brought my riding gear and had planned on renting a bike, but I was too late and at least what I looked at, there was no availability for my timeline. Bummer, since I'd not ridden the rockies in over 4 years, something pretty special when you live in flatlanderville (Florida)! But, behind the scenes, a couple of TT'ers were at work! Through TT, we recently hired a fine, young gentleman to head up our advertising sales team,( @Freemotion ) and he pulled some strings with a local who had a well equipped KTM 450XC-W that is his back-up machine. His new love is a 2019 KTM 300 TPI and it was gorgeous! So, a HUGE thanks to @Freemotion for greasing the skids in getting me a skoot and to @G 9.5 for generously lending out his bike to basically a stranger. The weather was great, so was the company, and the riding was epic as far as I'm concerned. I'm still a bit humbled by the generosity, so I wanted to share a story that I bet isn't as uncommon among the riding community as one might imagine. Dirt bike people rock! ?
  2. I'm in Granby for a week anybody else bring their dirt bike? I rode this area a couple times and know north of here a lot better. Open to ride either one. Any locals off during the week?
  3. Thinking of riding there over the weekend if it is. Thanks in advance...
  4. Somebody mentioned we could get water at one of the parks in Gunnison for our RVs before we drove up to Taylor. Any idea where? Hauling 110 gallons from AZ seems a bit much.
  5. Was just on a different bike forum and a friend there was mentioning to me about a cool paved road in Canon City for a street bike ride. While browsing the area for other roads and trails for potential dirt bike and drift trike adventures, I found what appears to be either a Jeep trail or an OHV trail, or possibly just a county dirt road. Not sure which it is tho. Anyway, doesn't look difficult at all for a bike. But sounds like there may be lots of areas to ride and even camp out by the road. Anyone been out here on a dirt bike? Can you get gas in Victor? It's 29.5 miles, so would be cutting it awfully close for an out and back on my moto tank. I'm kind of more interested in finding a place to camp with trails or fire roads close by.
  6. Thanks for visiting my 2001 Suzuki DRZ400e resto/build thread. I picked up my DRZ this past summer shortly before getting my endorsement. I have plenty of off-roading and wrenching experience although it’s all been focused on 4x4’s and mountain bikes. A couple buddies and I all picked up project (of varying degrees) dual sports with hopes of exploring the northern Colorado national forests and good old adventure on 2 wheels. The previous owner of this bike only had it for a short period of time and didn’t have much history on it. It came with studded tires, a worn out ACCT, and running pretty lean. This thread will document my resto/build with the intent of 25% street/commuting, 50% forest service road exploring, and 25% enduro-type trails. Here is a list of items I addressed shortly after acquiring the bike: Tusk Motorcycle Enduro Lighting kit (bike is now titled and plated in CO) New disc brake pads Oil and filter change New Tires… Kenda K760 Trakmaster II rear, Pirelli MT21 front All Balls Wheel Bearing kits (front & Rear) New foam air filter (Tusk) New Tusk valve cover gasket Thumpertalk MCCT Pigtail for trickle charger Checked valve clearance (all in tolerance) A few other upgrades/mod’s that I can see have already been added: Scott’s triple clamp Air box has been opened up Auxillary CPU fan on radiator Radiator guard (not sure on brand) Factory Effex seat (not sure if this is an upgrade) Skidplate Over the next couple weeks I plan to begin disassembling the bike down to the frame and here are the planned upgrade/maintenance items I plan to address (depending on funding) before the spring riding season: IMS 4.0 Tank Seat Concepts saddle (foam kit) Tusk D Flex pro hand guards ProGrip 714 grips LED low/high beam upgrades with a customer headlight housing Ram Mount Spring grip (iphone) New plastics for front/rear fender and side panels (black) De-rust stock exhaust and paint black Service swingarm bearings Gather a tool kit, first aide kit, and spare parts kit Wider ebay pedals Trackside 12v adapter to cockpit Paint the frame (reading lots on paint vs powdercoat) Polish wheels / de-rust spokes Check jetting in carb… add JD Jet Kit as necessary Thumpertalk case savers… may need to replace case on right side (damaged) Smooth the back of the shifter near the folding tip it has kind of a sharp edge that can still damage thru the case saver Delete clutch and stand switches Free Power Mod Go through wiring harness and shorten/clean up/re-do connections/silicone grease in every electrical connector New Drive chain and sprocket(s)… still researching desired gearing (recommendations welcome) Flush brake fluid Flush radiator fluid Maintain / tune suspension as needed I would love for you all to join me on this journey and add your recommendations/opinions on upgrades, personal experience, alternative brands, things I’ve missed, etc. I will be taking my time to post details on the upgrades I’m making along the way although I’m not bringing innovation to what you all have already accomplished. Thanks again and I look forward to learning from and sharing with this community as I go!
  7. Just got my daughter a 17 KLX 140, its all stock. Ive read a lot about putting bigger jets and opening up the airbox in it for better performance but does this apply at altitude (6500-8000)?
  8. From the album: Gone, but not forgotten!

    Looking down on Telluride, CO
  9. Hello. I didn't see an introduction section. Hopefully not breaking any rules by doing it here. The site is massive. It's almost to much to be honest I'm in the Highlands Ranch area, south Denver. I ride an 07 KTM 690 supermoto. Swapped in a set of resprung 450 exc forks with remote tanks. Kept the factory radial caliper with an adapter bracket. 85sx rear shock with a 660 quad coil set. Mostly stock beyond that. I'm looking for an area in the Front Range, near'ish Denver to practice some modest dirt and "Enduro" skills. My buddy recently bought a Super Tenere. We're planning for the COBDR next summer and he's not good on dirt right now. I want to help him build some basic skills and I would also like to work on my own techniques. A field with a dirt road or two would be preferred. Would be nice if it didn't cost money to enter. I'll take any suggestions. Thank you.
  10. Anyone have any input regarding best GG tech in front range?
  11. I need some info from CO natives who are living in Montrose, CO or the immediate surrounding area. If you are in these forums and dont mind me picking your brain about a few topics please PM me. Thanks!
  12. Just a heads up for if ya like to camp over on the west side of 717 system, down there in the trees in that spot off the left of Co51 where lotsa rigs would gather. Its all marked private property now and there is a new wire fence all along the northern edge. Heres a look at the spot kinda looking south. I'm pointing right at, what used to be, the camping area. Look close and you can see the new fence angling R-L kinda on right side of pic. One day a couple years ago we were riding on the road over this way on Co51 from Phantom Creek TH and had just crossed Trail Creek Rd (Co3) when we approached a bitch in a smaller vehicle going same way, but slower in the section with shallow dips. This section: I approached the back of her vehicle slowly and was patiently just going to follow her, when she abruptly pulled over to let us pass. I stopped next to her window to thank her, but got an earful of hate instead. I don't remember her words, but it was basically a vent about how fast riders ride and how rude and how off-roaders' existence annoys her. I was very surprised and don't remember what I said, but we proceeded on....slowly to not dust her out and our bikes are quiet, so it wasn't our noise that bugged her. Anyway, as we proceeded north we saw new Private Property signs on the side of the road and were like, WTF? Some of the spots had been used as small campsites in the past. Well, my suspicion was then that she had bought all the property that was marked Private....and I think it now includes (maybe always did include) the big camping area in my first pic. If you look at a map, you can see a wide finger of private land extending north along 51. I'm guessing its now hers. I watched behind that day and she turned into the driveway on the north side of 51 across from the house on the south side. Heres a look at her driveway and the south side house. Quite ironically, we may have passed her again yesterday in the same section of road. I dunno....its seems like her vehicle back then was taller, but maybe try to keep that car in mind if ya go over that way.
  13. Just stumbled on this while looking at the web planning a trip. Sorry if it’s already been shared. If not, it’s great info on what is closed or restricted (camping, toilets closures etc.) in CO State parks, BLM, USDA, CPW, Grasslands etc.
  14. Howdy TT - hoping to get suggestions on a good NEW spot to ride and camp this weekend. Our favorite place is Snyder creek but it is closed until June. Have also ridden Tarryall, Fourmile, Texas creek, Hardscrabble, rampart, divide, etc. never camped in any of those. Any thoughts? Is Sargents open yet? Also noticed a new area southwest of Canon City and Texas Creek around Fairview, curious if there is any decent riding out there. Appreciate any help so we can get out of here this weekend! steve ps - for what it’s worth, I know us dirt bikers can hold these things pretty close to the vest, just know though that I’m one of the good ones, volunteer for trail maintenance, leave no trace, respects other riders, and generally tries to improve our image
  15. Hey Guys, Just got this on craigslist, it's pretty sweet and am getting used to it. Any idea where I should be lifting when grabbing the back end of the bike ? There's no structure back there, only plastic and the muffler. I sure appreciate any help on this !
  16. Thank you guys, I'm sure there is a guy here who is really good at it, I can't remember his name / business .
  17. Wondering if anyone has the real info on riding at PMI(Pueblo west), whatever people are calling it these days, im hearing mixed messages. Also heard they straight up closed the gates? They patrolling in the open area? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
  18. I was planning on taking a day trip this Wednesday over to rampart range for a solo ride. This past Saturday I was in Deckers fly fishing and the most of the 5 mile long trail was pretty dry. Has anyone been up there recently or know what i can expect?
  19. Just saw thing posted on Fox 31 and thought I'd share: Forest Service, Pitkin County to hire enforcement officers POSTED 9:57 AM, OCTOBER 16, 2019, BY ASSOCIATED PRESS ASPEN, Colo. — Pitkin County has announced plans to collaborate with a federal forest agency to create and fill two wildlife enforcer positions. Aspen Daily News reports that Pitkin County commissioners agreed Tuesday to form a $100,000 contract with the U.S. Forest Service to create two full-time positions. Officials say the officers would be tasked with enforcing regulations where roads and property border the White River National Forest. Wildlife officials say there is an increase in illegal recreational activity including trespassing from paddle-boarders leaving the water and off-roading in prohibited areas. The county would be responsible for the officers’ salaries and the Forest Service would employ them and provide housing and benefits. Officials say they hope to have at least one of the officers in place by the end of the year. Follow this story to get email or text alerts from KDVR when there is a future article following this storyline.

  21. Just got this email from COHVCO and thought I would share: Action Alert!!! The Pike & San Isabel National Forest (PSINF) has recently released the Motorized Travel Management (MVUM) Analysis, Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). This DEIS is the result of a 2015 settlement agreement of a 2010 legal challenge to the PSI’s previously prepared travel management plans. The TPA and motorized community has invested significant funds and labor to intervene on behalf of the USFS in the litigation. Since 2015, the TPA and motorized community has invested considerable financial and staff resources to analyze, research and prepare comments during the Scoping Phase of the project. On September 19, 2019, the DEIS was released for public review and comment along with supporting public meetings to provide the public with an opportunity to review the five different Alternatives. Upcoming meetings occurring in the second week of October Our general thoughts We support the preferred Alternative C with some amendments (as long as there are no additional closures, decommissioning, restrictions or conversion of the routes to Admin Use Only or Maintenance Level 1 in Alternative C) as the best option and compromise that will both provide adequate access to manage the Forest and provide the widest spectrum of opportunities for access to the Forest and recreational opportunities for OHV recreation. However, there are several critical modifications and additions that the TPA advises must be included in Alternative C prior to finalization.Note that Alternative C does recommend that several existing National Forest System Roads (NFSRs) be converted to “trails” open to all vehicles (aka full size vehicles) or another trail designation such as open to vehicles 50” or less, etc. Only Alternatives C and D provide a transportation network that will be adequate, minimized and can simultaneously meet the needs for effective Forest management and provide access for all forms of recreation to the public lands of the PSINF. We are vigorously opposed to Alt B as it closes 34% of roads and trails, simply because previous analysis documents are unavailable. This ignores the fact that most of the closures are not justifiable with additional analysis. We are vigorously opposed to Alt E of the Proposal, not only does this close 50% of roads it simply does not meet purpose and need or recognize that existing travel management on the PSI effectively. Neither Alternative B nor E meets the needs for sustainable and proper forest, timber and fuels management along with motorized travel management and multiple-use recreation.Elimination of routes at the magnitude proposed by these two alternatives (e.g., elimination of the 717 trail system, Cap’n Jacks, etc.) will not protect the environment, will not protect natural or cultural resources, and does not fulfill the originally stated Purpose and Need of this project. Alternative A relies upon old, out dated information and does not adequately reflect current conditions and lacks planning for future uses. If you have participated in trail projects on the PSI, please mention that in your comments and pictures are always worthwhile when responding to these issues. More information on the preferred alternative (including maps) is available here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=48214 Then click on the analysis tab for most recent information Submit comments via USPS: PSICC Forest and Grasslands Supervisor Travel Management 2840 Kachina Drive Pueblo, CO, 81008 Comments via portal: https://cara.ecosystem-management.org/Public//CommentInput?Project=48214 Deadline for Public Comments: November 4, 2019 Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition P.O. 22. Dunno if this is the right place to post this, but I'm in search of Dr parts. I have a dr500 that needs rebuilt. Or a new motor entirely. I can make any Dr motor work if you have one for a decent price. Or maybe some top end parts? Maybe a whole bike you'd be willing to part with for a decent price. Thanks!
  23. Looking to be in Taylor Park September 13 thru the 20th and need riding buddies. I've been going to Taylor for 16 years now and will be on my own this trip so if you don't mind an extra rider let me know. Let me add that I'll be looking to ride singletrack and I carry my own tools so no worries about babysitting another rider.
  24. I wanna ride, anyone else wanna show me around .? Will be in Denver and Parker in a week for a week, just love to ride, never ever, ever take a vacation until now... like all types of riding, trails,mx,singletrack, etc
  25. I have watched Washington State change over the years and being at a place in my life where all I want to do is ride trails, I am considering leaving Washington State. Where would you move to if you were set up in life and all you had to do was to enjoy the next 30 years riding trails? Your help is greatly appreciated. I have 3 places in mind, what say you guys? Where would you go? My ideal riding is technical single track. For instance I love little Naches, Tahuya obviously and Shelton areas. Thanks everyone who chimes in, much appreciated. PS. Pics are a huge bonus.
