  1. I have watched Washington State change over the years and being at a place in my life where all I want to do is ride trails, I am considering leaving Washington State. Where would you move to if you were set up in life and all you had to do was to enjoy the next 30 years riding trails? Your help is greatly appreciated. I have 3 places in mind, what say you guys? Where would you go? My ideal riding is technical single track. For instance I love little Naches, Tahuya obviously and Shelton areas. Thanks everyone who chimes in, much appreciated. PS. Pics are a huge bonus.
  2. Was just on a different bike forum and a friend there was mentioning to me about a cool paved road in Canon City for a street bike ride. While browsing the area for other roads and trails for potential dirt bike and drift trike adventures, I found what appears to be either a Jeep trail or an OHV trail, or possibly just a county dirt road. Not sure which it is tho. Anyway, doesn't look difficult at all for a bike. But sounds like there may be lots of areas to ride and even camp out by the road. Anyone been out here on a dirt bike? Can you get gas in Victor? It's 29.5 miles, so would be cutting it awfully close for an out and back on my moto tank. I'm kind of more interested in finding a place to camp with trails or fire roads close by.
  3. Recently,I took a trip out to Colorado for some R&R on a family vacation. I brought my riding gear and had planned on renting a bike, but I was too late and at least what I looked at, there was no availability for my timeline. Bummer, since I'd not ridden the rockies in over 4 years, something pretty special when you live in flatlanderville (Florida)! But, behind the scenes, a couple of TT'ers were at work! Through TT, we recently hired a fine, young gentleman to head up our advertising sales team,( @Freemotion ) and he pulled some strings with a local who had a well equipped KTM 450XC-W that is his back-up machine. His new love is a 2019 KTM 300 TPI and it was gorgeous! So, a HUGE thanks to @Freemotion for greasing the skids in getting me a skoot and to @G 9.5 for generously lending out his bike to basically a stranger. The weather was great, so was the company, and the riding was epic as far as I'm concerned. I'm still a bit humbled by the generosity, so I wanted to share a story that I bet isn't as uncommon among the riding community as one might imagine. Dirt bike people rock! ?
  4. I am a novice rider looking for people to ride with. I live in Durango but have been riding in Aztec and Farmington. I'm not a novice to offroad, I desert race quads and mountain bike, but this motorcycle thing is a whole different ball of wax. I just got a CRF250X to trailride, love it, but am hesitant to explore much on my own. Anybody else slow wanna ride?
  5. Finally get to spend a few days in Ouray over Labor Day. Looking for advice to see if my ride plans are realistic. Fairly familiar with the trails, as my Jeep friends have done them, I've done a ton of resarch, and I had a trip planned prior that didn't work out. I drive a plated KTM 300 XCW and will carry some extra premix oil, though I shouldn't need it. Staying in a condo in Ouray and will drive from town. I'll have two full days to ride. Plans are: DAY 1 (~ 50 Miles): Ouray to Black Bear Pass Trailhead Black Bear to Telluride Telluride to Ouray via Imogene Pass and Yankee Boy Basin DAY 2 (~ 25 Miles): Ouray to Engineer Pass TrailHead Engineer Pass to Poughkeepsie Gulch Turnoff Poughkeepsie Gulch Hurricane Pass Corkscrew Pass Back to Ouray I have .gpx trail maps saved to my phone, and the surrounding maps cached so I'm not dependent on cell signal. Will have tools, water, snacks, and at least 1 person on Day 1. For those that have ridden Ouray, what say you? Pic for attention.
  6. What do you guys think? Thinking maybe higher elevation trails would still be iffy? If so, what about the lower elevation trails? Also, any good alternatives down around Mancos or Durango? Thanks All.
  7. Just got this email from COHVCO and thought I would share: Action Alert!!! The Pike & San Isabel National Forest (PSINF) has recently released the Motorized Travel Management (MVUM) Analysis, Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). This DEIS is the result of a 2015 settlement agreement of a 2010 legal challenge to the PSI’s previously prepared travel management plans. The TPA and motorized community has invested significant funds and labor to intervene on behalf of the USFS in the litigation. Since 2015, the TPA and motorized community has invested considerable financial and staff resources to analyze, research and prepare comments during the Scoping Phase of the project. On September 19, 2019, the DEIS was released for public review and comment along with supporting public meetings to provide the public with an opportunity to review the five different Alternatives. Upcoming meetings occurring in the second week of October Our general thoughts We support the preferred Alternative C with some amendments (as long as there are no additional closures, decommissioning, restrictions or conversion of the routes to Admin Use Only or Maintenance Level 1 in Alternative C) as the best option and compromise that will both provide adequate access to manage the Forest and provide the widest spectrum of opportunities for access to the Forest and recreational opportunities for OHV recreation. However, there are several critical modifications and additions that the TPA advises must be included in Alternative C prior to finalization.Note that Alternative C does recommend that several existing National Forest System Roads (NFSRs) be converted to “trails” open to all vehicles (aka full size vehicles) or another trail designation such as open to vehicles 50” or less, etc. Only Alternatives C and D provide a transportation network that will be adequate, minimized and can simultaneously meet the needs for effective Forest management and provide access for all forms of recreation to the public lands of the PSINF. We are vigorously opposed to Alt B as it closes 34% of roads and trails, simply because previous analysis documents are unavailable. This ignores the fact that most of the closures are not justifiable with additional analysis. We are vigorously opposed to Alt E of the Proposal, not only does this close 50% of roads it simply does not meet purpose and need or recognize that existing travel management on the PSI effectively. Neither Alternative B nor E meets the needs for sustainable and proper forest, timber and fuels management along with motorized travel management and multiple-use recreation.Elimination of routes at the magnitude proposed by these two alternatives (e.g., elimination of the 717 trail system, Cap’n Jacks, etc.) will not protect the environment, will not protect natural or cultural resources, and does not fulfill the originally stated Purpose and Need of this project. Alternative A relies upon old, out dated information and does not adequately reflect current conditions and lacks planning for future uses. If you have participated in trail projects on the PSI, please mention that in your comments and pictures are always worthwhile when responding to these issues. More information on the preferred alternative (including maps) is available here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=48214 Then click on the analysis tab for most recent information Submit comments via USPS: PSICC Forest and Grasslands Supervisor Travel Management 2840 Kachina Drive Pueblo, CO, 81008 Comments via portal: https://cara.ecosystem-management.org/Public//CommentInput?Project=48214 Deadline for Public Comments: November 4, 2019 Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition P.O. 9. Looking to be in Taylor Park September 13 thru the 20th and need riding buddies. I've been going to Taylor for 16 years now and will be on my own this trip so if you don't mind an extra rider let me know. Let me add that I'll be looking to ride singletrack and I carry my own tools so no worries about babysitting another rider.
  10. Just got my daughter a 17 KLX 140, its all stock. Ive read a lot about putting bigger jets and opening up the airbox in it for better performance but does this apply at altitude (6500-8000)?
  11. I'm in Granby for a week anybody else bring their dirt bike? I rode this area a couple times and know north of here a lot better. Open to ride either one. Any locals off during the week?
  12. Thinking of riding there over the weekend if it is. Thanks in advance...
  13. Somebody mentioned we could get water at one of the parks in Gunnison for our RVs before we drove up to Taylor. Any idea where? Hauling 110 gallons from AZ seems a bit much.
  14. I have an 09 WR450F and I want to get the suspension done. I ride mostly in Colorado and Utah including single track, open desert, sand, rock, woods, etc. I’m 50+ and 200lbs. Formerly mid pack B rider but slowing down. Looking for some initial plushness for the rocks/roots but firmer for the whoops, sand, etc. Anyone have experience and can recommend a Colorado suspension company?
  15. "The Trump administration is quietly trying to strip public input from the decision-making process used by the U.S. Forest Service. Doing so would mean that logging companies could clear-cut at many as 4,200 acres at a time, and you wouldn’t know about it until you turned up at your favorite spot to find it decimated. But you have one last chance to stop that from happening. “This is a speak-now-or-forever-lose-your-ability-to-have-input situation,” says Sam Evans, a senior attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC). The organization has put together an easy tool that will enable you to participate in what’s potentially the last public-comment period about the vast majority of decisions affecting national forests. If the public doesn’t speak up now and stop this proposed logging rule from going forward, it won’t have a chance to weigh in when logging, roads, or even pipelines threaten the lands where they recreate." https://www.outsideonline.com/2400593/us-forest-service-public-commenting
  16. So if I rented a street legal 450 enduro, where's a good trail somewhat close to Denver to drive to? Or may rent a mx and trailer it. Anyone know a good place to rent? I'm going to be buying something soon, maybe a 250yz or Ktm 250sx
  17. I'm looking for map software for either my Garmin Montana 600 (right now I have the topo, and huntX maps which should property boundaries) or my cell phone. I'm looking to mount either on the handlebars and looking for something easy to read/follow that shows legality for dirt bikes. What are you guys using?

  20. Just a heads up for our fellow Colorado folks: A story came out of Colorado Springs yesterday about Gov. Polis doubling wildlife and OHV fines in order to further fund CPW and discourage illegal activities. I know some of us were just discussing some of this in the Utah OHV reciprocity thread. Here's a link to the story: https://koaa.com/news/covering-colorado/2019/06/04/gov-polis-signs-law-to-increase-fines-for-wildlife-violations/
  21. We made it up to do the first of two weekends of clearing at Grizly Helena. If you have never ridden this trail, and you like a challenge, it's worth a day over there, especially if you're already a regular at Snyder Creek area. It's about 20 mins west of Walden. This trail does not get ridden much at all, so it you don't want the whoops, then give it a shot. The water was FLOWING at Norris Creek and Roaring Fork Creek, so as we always run into this time of year, we had to stop at Norris Creek and Roaring Fork creeks and go down and around via county roads to hit them from the other sides. If you do decide to head out and ride this trail, I'd wait until the end of July or August so all of the creek crossings are safe.
  22. Just found this from Hinsdale County on FB: Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway For Immediate Release Contact: Michael Davis, Public Information Officer May 29, 2019 Information Line: 970-648-4118 Hinsdale County is working with San Juan County to coordinate this year's Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway opening. A meeting was held last Wednesday night, with input from both Road & Bridge supervisors, the Sheriff's Offices, Emergency Managers, and administrators. Representatives from the Bureau of Land Management were also present. After discovering a 100-foot deep avalanche between Eureka and Animas Forks, San Juan County road crew is working on an alternate route and expects to be in Animas Forks by the end of June. With that information, Hinsdale County opted to re-direct the Road & Bridge crew to assist with pre-flood priorities and address lower elevation road issues. San Juan and Hinsdale Counties staff will continue to keep each other updated primarily through the Road and Bridge Departments and the Sheriff’s Offices. The Commissioners of both counties have scheduled their next work session to review the current conditions, future plans and coordination between the two counties will be June 20th.
  23. Looking for new friends to ride with. For this wknd I would have my 8 yr old and he rides too! Moto camp beers fun. Ya?
  24. I’m planning my second trip to Taylor Park and would like some input on what to ride. My first trip 3 years ago I made it as far west as Double Top. Did cement, Bear creek, deadman, Flag creek, Dr Park, American flag, Lily pond just for an idea of the area I rode. Looking for suggestions for single track, particularly the more challenging trails. Is timberline any good? Thanks for the input.
  25. We have a group of us that are doing a last second trip to Colorado (read zero planning.) We will be staying in between Alamosa and Salida next week and looking for trail recommendations. Can you point us towards some good single track in the area. We will drive and hour or two if that puts us on some good trails. In the brief search it’s been a little overwhelming. Is Salida our best bet? Any particular trails? I have always wanted to run the rainbow trail but I am guessing still snow and mud?
