  1. The reliability and simplicity of a big single cylinder motorcycle is something I desire - more specifically I am drawn to the legendary and robust dual-sport XT/TT 500. I am all for the power to weight ratio of these workhorses, but I cannot seem to get my hands on a road-legal one in CANADA. I can, however, get my hands on the engine alone, and a deal of a used 1986 XT600! There is no urgency in my pursuit of the ever-alluding XT500 frame-with-ownership... but the idea of the ever-reliable 2-valve 500 single with mono shock rear suspension... a thumper of pure beauty. They are both conveniently dry sump to my understanding. The 1986 XT600 was even 2lbs lighter than the same year XT500 - according to my research. Would this conversion mean yet a lighter bike? I would plan on stripping the bike down, tricking the internals up, suspension, the works, and finishing it off as a sort of scrambler, inspired by the original XT500. It would be the bike and ride of my life. I hope to hear good things about how this venture could work. I am young and ambitious, so to fabricate or to not fabricate, your input would be appreciated. Cheers, Daw
  2. Hi! My friend wants to build a scrambler from his 2000 Honda XR650 and these are the parts he needs to complete the project, fuel tank, fenders, lights, exhaust and custom seat. I have prepared mockups for his approval and I am happy to share them. There are 4 compatible tanks CHAMP XL, GT, ROCKY & TROOPER. Welcome to share your comment! c
  3. I am thinking about doing a snowbike conversion on my 400f. Has anyone done this and if so what all needs to be done besides heating the carb with extra coolant lines around it. Tia
  4. Hello. I have been looking for a set of restyle graphics for my 2013 KTM 200 XCW. I am already planning on getting a 2018 style front fender, with a 2018 front headlight mask,(using the poly sport adapter) and an orange air box and side panels to give the bike a modern look, similar to say a 2018-2022 XCW. However, I am having difficulty finding suitable graphics. I would like graphics that look very similar to like an OEM 2022 XCW, that fit on my 2013 plastics. I am trying to go for a “2022” 200 XCW look, and this would really make it look great. Any suggestions? Thank you
  5. Hey all, If embarking on such a project yourself, what would you choose as your starting point? I’m toying around with the idea of building a custom street scrambler build… Something lightweight and powerful with great road manners and genuine off-road ability. I’m thinking I’ll go for a large (+500cc) powerful single for a great power-to-weight ratio. I’ve got some ideas for the design elements I want to include for the finished aesthetics but can’t decide what bike to use a starting point? If embarking on such a project yourself, what would you choose as your starting point? …and why?
  6. does anyone know what the best place would be to get a custom bar pad cover.i want to get one of a older dg style one they dont make anymore
  7. So I love this little 04 TTR125L. Got it in rough shape and got it back and running like a bat out of hell. I'm a diesel mechanic by trade and can fix anything. My front frocket was extremely wobbly with the lock on and on the drive so I put a washer behind the sprocket and locked it back. I was just wondering if that will damage anything or did I do right? And can I put a 15t sprocket in front?
  8. Thinking about parting ways with my 2002 Xr400R (second gen). It’s been a great bike, but I want the Husqy 350 or new Honda 250 and mod it like this XR. I’m a pro rider and I’ve used this ol gal as my endurocross bike for 3 years now. But you know that means it has all the proper upgrades. 12:1 Namura compression and stainless steel top end from the 2014 Honda QUAD series. yep; it’s bigger than the 440 kit. Lmao. Fits!!! (bigger capacity electrical system with it) stage 2 hot cam cut at a custom angle to give max low end power and come back for more at 4000-7000 rpm area. (That was a beach to measure) crank and connecting rod changed out for Pro-X. mikuni pumper 64mm carb tuned by mikuni mechanic for my bike. new clutch and basket airbox and oil lines increased in size for better flow. (Still uses regular filters) stock exhaust reemed performs better than others in cold climates. New bearings and bushings all around. ALL! it has a street kit, just needs put back on. Fully functions. front forks recently changed back to like-new OEM for restoration purposes. fenders cut out for better airflow and now they don’t rub tires. frame recently painted black with Line-X over original crap. like-new brakes and rotors. legit NEW seat as of 8-4-20 New shinko tires (mud terrain)
  9. Whats up guys. I have taken apart my 2000 Drz400 (kickstart only model, same as E) down to the frame because I am going to paint the whole thing. While it is apart, is there anything I should specifically check? Im mainly talking about the engine. Before it was burning oil regularly and I did find some metal in my oil. I think the metal is from my clutch or neutral because my clutch wasnt fully engaging and I didnt realize it for a while. Now my neutral "feels small" if that makes since. Lol I felt dumb when I realized the clutch adjustment got loose, but what can you do. As always thanks y'all. TLDR - took bike apart to paint. Is there anything I should look for specifically? Mainly refering to engine. Was burning oil and flakes in oil, but could be from user messing up clutch.
  10. Recently picked up at a 2003 Suzuki LT 80 for my daughter to learn how to ride on, but I find the thing so fun to ride that I actually enjoy ripping it around myself from time to time . So I was wondering what are some decent modifications that can be made to these that would make it slightly more comfortable pretty much looking to upgrade the rear and front shocks. Don’t know if they make a more beefy set up for these or if there are other larger bikes with interchangeable parts that can be out on these. Either way any help is much appreciated
  11. Have a 06 klx110 with a blown engine. Heavily debating putting a 155 in instead. Is PP reliable? Anything I need to look out for? https://pitsterpro.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=10&product_id=81
  12. Buddy wanted me to build him a “pitter kicker” so this was what I came up with. It’s 6(1/2)’ long, 3(1/2)’ tall, 2(1/2)’ wide. No clue what the actual slope is because I freehanded it. Prototype 001
  13. Hey guys, I’d like to know if anyone on the forum has swapped a 230 engine into a 250R frame since I’d like to know how you went about it. I’m planning to get the 230 motor completely overhauled by EO, so it should be making right around 25HP. I’m aware that fabrication and suspension modifications will be necessary and I’m okay with that. Before I even get any questions, I have many reasons that I’d like to complete this swap and not stick with the 250R motor. The main ones being the complexity, frequency and price of rebuilds and maintenance, and the fact that the engine is not designed for prolonged trail use. I love the 230 engine and would like to pair it with a more suitable platform for my needs. Any tips or recommendations on things I should focus on with the build would be appreciated. Thanks
  14. So I have a 93 KX125 with a 99 YZ engine I picked up a while back. Since it has an engine swap, I’m currently using a UNI Pod Filter. I recently picked up a JD Jetting kit as well. Using an air box is not an option, and if it is please tell me how haha. Anyway, I would like some advice on how I should go about tuning the carb to run with a pod filter. From what I have heard, using a pod filter let’s in more air and creates a leaner mixture. So I have to go richer right? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, - Brandon
  15. Hi there, I recently did the top end rebuild of my Yamaha YZ450f 2015, I added a Wossner piston and went with the Kibblewhite valves and spring setup. I also have a FMF Powercore 4 installed, I am mostly a dune rider and hard desert terrain, I purchased the power tuner too and I am looking to get the best performance and power from the bike, I have tried a few of the maps recommended but was hoping I could get a custom map setup from someone who has knowledge of the power tuner. Thanks
  16. Hey everyone! I'm new to Thumpertalk and found out about you through research on my first bike purchase ( 2006 Suzuki DRZ400SM ). My wife new I had been checking this one out for some time and got it for me. I am new to riding and a friend recommended I check out a supermoto as well. this was on my bucket list for a while ( learn to ride a motorcycle ). Anyways, she paid 2,500 for it. Tires are Battleax S20 hypersports, got them for a deal from a local shop in Orangeburg, SC. The reason I'm posting is when I was riding out to a friends house the other day I hopped on the freeway and went to the next exit about a mile away, the bike died on me and I could not restart it. I was in 4th and didn't notice I should've shifted 1 up, by that time I was getting off the exit. I wasn't in 4th for that long and not sure what I did. I know im a big newb but was wondering what are your recommendations? When I was pulled over the battery started dying once I tried to start it multiple times. Had fuel in it, drove it the day before no issues, and have been driving all summer with no hiccups ( starts up on first try as well, well did haha ). I had my wife grab me a new battery at the store and started draining that one as well while attempting to start. I never leave the lights on or kill switch engaged. The bike would began to start with battery and never turn over. I can here the exhaust ever so lightly but will not hold if that makes sense. All help would be gratefully appreciated! And how do you like the setup? I plan on changing the headlight and refurbishing the exhaust ( the guy we bought it from-friend was awful at loading and unloading the bike when he borrowed it ), the owner before the guy we bought it from made all the modifications ( guy we got it from did not obviously ). The Yoshi plates were damaged during loading and unloading the bike as they don't have much respect for things. I spoke to a rep from Yoshi and said they were not difficult or costly to replace badging. The bike has approx. 10,000 miles on it and is a joy to ride. I didn't want to buynew because I'm new. What I do know about bike : Protaper grips, Protaper Henry Reed Countour bars, Brembro Clutch, Rear handle bar brake, Hel brake lines?, Excel rims, cracked reservoir tank, 50 stunt bike savers ( that will not protect exhaust lol ), Acerbis hand guards, Acerbis front fender, Trailtech headlight ( not bright at all ), Yoshimura RS4 twin carbon exhaust, Rear delete of some sort, and think its a trail tech screen, a quick battery connection near battery box, Moty 4 cell battery, and aftermarket seat cover with a hole cut out in the middle under cover ( maybe use to hide battery there or tried and didn't work ), Thumper talk case savers, New Bridgestone Battleax S20 Hypersports 140 rear I don't plan on riding much offroad with this bike because of my area Charleston SC and because of the exhaust. I do not see that the airbox mod was done and looks to be a uni air filter as well. I plan on modifying the bike and know the airbox, jetting, and exhaust are recommended first upgrades. Should I just upgrade the carb to a 39 and go that route and will I still need to modify the airbox if I do so? I want to bring this bike back and to upgrade it the right way. Sorry for being long winded but I'm new and thought to give you as much info as I could would help The only thing I've done to this thing is add fuel and remove a bunch of randomly placed manufacturer stickers I did notice what looked to be fuel from the hose hanging above the left foot shift lever from time to time as well
  17. Hey guys, I really appreciate you taking the time to read this and possibly give me some help. I have a 1979 Honda XL185s that I have rebuilt and am to the point of wiring it up. I picked up the bike for $50 and it came with no wiring. I wanted to do custom anyways. I am converting to 12v with an antigravity 4cell 12v battery, 12v regulator, along with new oem style CDI, new coil, new pulse generator, ITS ALL NEW and fresh. I am not running any lights, all I need is to wire up the ignition and charging system, kickstart only. Problem is my new reg/rec has different colors than oem with no instructions, the coil I have has an extra wire compared to oem, I’m running a simple two wire on/off keyed ignition switch, subtle differences that leave me confused on where to go. Long story shortish, here is a list of what I have with color of each wire Any help you could give as to where to go with what is much appreciated, I know a few are probably obvious and simple but I’ll list them anyways for full coverage. Ignition switch (in-line fuse coming off of red wire, going straight to pos on batt) Black Red Reg/rec 2 yellow Red Black CDI Blk with female blade connector Two green Red/blk Blue/white Blk/white Pulse generator Blue Green Coil Blk/yellow Green Alternator Yellow/white Yellow Pink Red/black
  18. I have a 2015 KTM 300 XC that has all of the mountings for a headlight and I was wandering if it was possible if I could put a freeride headlight on it with my current fender. Thansk in advance.
  19. Curious to if anybody knows if any companies make preprinted number plate backgrounds of the ol’ 82’ XR200. Planning on racing amx and some vintage cross county.
  20. So I have a 2008 yz450f and I would like to add some LED lights to it to make it street legal. Mainly just a headlight and a tail light and turn signals if I need to (which where I live hand signals work). So where I need help is getting power from the stator to a battery. Wiring from a battery to anything else I got and understand and don't need help with (but recommendations are welcome). So my questions are. What type of power is coming from the stator. AC or DC? Will I need a regulator or rectifier? How do I wire something from the stator to charge a battery? What would that wiring look like? Would this stator http://www.rickystator.com/product/stators/yamaha/yamaha-yz450f-35-watt-lighting-stator-assembly-06-09 work? Anything else I should know? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  21. Now I know there’s thousands of threads about drz’s but I was wondering if there was any way to make the speed drive on the Drz work with a non S or E model wheel. I came across a great deal on dirt bike rims and tires that’ll fit the drz but won’t work with the speed drive. Is there a way that I could just tack weld a notch for the speed drive or is it something more than that that would prevent the drive from not working.
  22. Ok so heres my shot at a bad ass engine conversion and as usual i need a wimter project. Any help or input is appreciated. So i have a rolling chassis 1983 kx80. All the plastics and suspension are in fair condition. I recently purchased a 1992 y250 frankenstein bike. My plan is to stuff the yz250 engine into the kx80 frame and create the kids dream bike. I have a couple yz250 frames in which i am going to cut off the cradle and weld it onto the kx80 frame so it will accept the centerline exhaust. Also the original kx80 frame wouldnt fit the yz250 engine. I will fabricate all new motor mounts except the rear swingarm/motor mount. I will use the kx80 swingarm bolt and get a sleeve fabricated for the yz250 engine to accept the kx80 swingarm bolt. Will need spacers fabricated to align the drivechain. I will get a custom 520 rear sprocket for the kx80(gearing undecided). Will have detailed pics tonight
  23. Hello All, After searching the web for a rack that suited my needs for camping, beer, general storage, and additional tie-down spots on the bike, I didn't really find anything that suited me. I decided to design my own. Let me know what you guys think.
