  1. So I bought a ssr 125 very fresh hardly riddin bike and I went and changed the oil I put what the book said 10w 40 regular car oil and after about a 30 mile ride I was looking thru the book and see. That it needed 10w 40 4 stroke motorcycle oil so I changed it the next day do you think I hurt the bike at all ??
  2. so I'm wondering about buying a 250cc 2 stroke I just turned 15 and weigh about 120lbs and am looking for a dirtbike coming off a Yamaha banshee. I will be mostly riding in the sand dunes but do go up and ride semi technical trails and desert riding. i've heard that a 125 will not have enough power for sand riding. would I be able to hold the bike up being around 5'9-5'10? what would y'all recommend I look for. (not at all considering a 4 stroke because of the costs of rebuilds)

Hi, Im new to riding and planning to buy my first bike (a 125 2 stroke) and ride it in the mountains (image below) now i was wondering how long a piston will last in these conditions. i have no experience riding bikes so i thought someone here might have an idea, thanks for taking the time to read this
  4. I found this bike that is for sale near me, it's a 2007 KX450F. The seller is asking $800/OBO. The reason he's selling it is because the valves need to be adjusted or replaced and it's a costly fix(He says ~$300 to fix it) and he doesn't want to deal with it. It has a clean and notarized title, but the bike only backfires, it doesn't physically run. From what I've heard from my friends is that it is the valves. But I am worried that when I purchase it, there is going to be something more costly that is wrong with the bike rather than just the valves. I can't see the bike run but if it is only the valves I would buy it in a heartbeat but I don't know for sure because the bike doesn't even run. What are some other major issues that could be wrong? Would you buy this? What are your thoughts? One of my buddies mentioned that it could need a motor rebuild which is pretty expensive. I'd love it if I could get some input from everybody. The bike is very clean looking, plastics are pretty nice and there isn't a lot of cosmetic damage to the bike. I'd really appreciate it. The two pictures that are attached are pictures of the bike.   5. Hello all, this is my first post so please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place. I have a 1981 Honda z50r dirtbike that's been sitting in the garage for about 25 years. I rode it as a kid, and it used to run absolutely great. We parked it and forgot about it. I got it out the other day for my kids. We cleaned the carburetor, put some fresh gas in, checked the oil level, and BOOM it fired right up. Didn't run very well, required full choke to run, so I assumed a dirty carb. We cleaned the carb again and it started up for a few minutes but then died and won't hit again. I just assumed the carb got crap in it from the dirty fuel tank, so I ordered a new one from Amazon (got it for $13!) along with some fuel line and filter. After installing all this, it won't hit at all. I even tested with ether and no dice. The spark looked very weak/sporadic so I replaced the spark plug. Still a weak/erratic spark. I pulled the boot off and held the bare wire near the frame and got a bright blue spark, reassembled it all, then it started right up and ran for a few seconds and died again. Now the spark is again sporadic, and not very hot even with the bare wire held near the frame. I cleaned the points with emory cloth and ensured they were gapped properly. Does this sound like a bad condenser, or a bad coil? The coil measures 5k ohms without the boot, and the boot measures 5k ohms also. I would really appreciate any guidance or tips you may wish to share. Thanks!

  7. I went out riding for the day and on the way back home i fouled my plug so i walked it the rest of the way and i took a wire brush and cleaned my plug and it started first kick. I noticed it was a bit rich on the pilot so i adjusted the fuel/air screw and got it running really good but then i saw coolant steaming out of the radiator cap so i quickly turned it off and later in the week i diagnosed it as a blown head gasket so i ordered it and replaced it and didn't start but it backfires out the exhaust when i kick it. I even tried bump starting it towed behind a quad and still nothing but i heard it fire every so often but didn't start so then i started tearing the bike down cleaned the carb really good got all the jets, replaced the pilot air screw since it was missing parts, got a new spark plug cap since it was rusty inside and the plug was loose in there, took apart and cleaned the power valves, cleaned the spooge out of the expansion chamber and silencer but still wouldn't start so now i don't know what to do i think it might be a timing problem since its backfiring but i really need some more opinions before i start f-ing with it.

  9. so i can trade my 04 yz250f for a 2002 rm125 i ride mostly all trails. i am tired of my 4 stroke because it's nickle and diming me. i have a few questions about the RM. How is the reliability on 02 rm125/ Your opinions of bike Will the rm125 be easier to maintain than my yz250f? What problems will pop up on this bike or common problems, what should i ask the seller about the bike?
  10. Hi guys, I want to get something long term to play around on the weekends out in the fields (no MX racing) and something that wont bore me to death as time goes on. I have never owned a dirt bike yet alone any motorbike, I rid a CBR600 sports bike once which was my friends and I loved it but thats pretty much my whole 2 wheel experience So I narrowed my choices down to a brand new 250F or a 450F. I dont want to get a 2 stroke new because i'll have to wait for the order to come in, the 450Fs and 250fs are always in stock and as for a used dirt bike, thats crossed of my list, where I live they are owned mostly by kids who never take care of them properly especially 4 strokes. So yeah, 250F or 450F? I'm buying brand new so I can't upgrade to a better bike, once I buy, its gonna be with me for a while I've had people telling me a 450F is fine for beginners as long as I take it easy, where as some told me to stay away and get a 250F I'm 200lbs btw What do you guys think I should do?

  13. Hey guys, I'm new to thumper, but I was hoping I could find someone who could help me. HERES THE DEAL! I've been riding 4 strokes for about 7 years now, but the 2T world has recently gotten my attention! I currently ride a 2006 YZ250F. (Fully rebuilt by myself;). I ride the piss out of it and I feel like it's missing something. I've tried shaking things up like riding different terrain(sand dunes,Rocks,etc.) I thought maybe I would try a 450, I got to ride my buddies CRF450X. lol that bike humbled me. It was way to high and It felt a LOT heavier. I crossed out the 450 bc I think it would be a waste and I wouldn't be able to push the bike to its limits. With that being said I'm trying to decide between (2017 Ktm 150 sx, 2017 Ktm 250sx, and 2017 YZ250 and/or the X model). Here's me.. I'm roughly 5'8" 175-185lbs. I lift 5-6 days a week. I enjoy riding anything and everything as long as I get to ride.
  14. Recently my TTR230 upon starting sometimes never catches with flywheel and makes a grinding clank noise, and aswell as my bike when idling makes a clanging noise. What is the starting problem, and is the idle problem related to it?

  16. Hi guys. I am interested in starting dirtbiking. I have cousins and other relatives who dirt bike and I am moving to an area where it is common to do it. I have ridden four wheelers before and enjoy driving high performance go karts. I am about 4 10 and am torn between a yz85 and an xr100 for a first bike. I wanted a xr100 but my cousin suggested a yz85. I will do both trail and eventually track once I build up some skill. I want a bike that I won't grow out of in 3 months. I am open to other suggestions.
  17. Hello, I was wondering what is the legality of dirt biking at old Keele landfill site. It seems like it is a perfect area for that, and I have seen groups of riders using it... I also heard stories that sometimes authorities wait for riders at the gate. Has anyone done it and is it worth it?
  18. I was wondering what the deal is with the OFTR, As I am aware, you dont need a OFTR membership to ride at gannaraska but you do at norththumberland. I have been trying to do things legally, I have insurance, green plate etc... but it seems everytime I find somewhere to ride there is something else you need. So my question is, Do you need and OFTR membership to ride Norththumberland trails and what is the OFTR? Do they check for memberships on the trails?
  19. Hey guys, I just sold my yz80, for $1100. Im down to two choices for a new dirt bike to buy, a 2003 cr125r, or a 2007 rm85 big wheel. I sold my 80 because i outgrew it, and im ready for a faster bike. Im only 5'3, so I know i wont be able to touch both feet on the 125, its got a freestyle seat, so it sits a little lower. Then, the rm85 is a big wheel, but i already outgrew my 80, and i dont know if the rm85 will be much faster. I rode my 80 amazing, i ride enduro/trail and I go to mx tracks to practice often. Let me know on what bike you guys think i should get. (By the way, my brother has a cr125 as well, and ive rode it and control the power well.)
  20. So basically. I got this yuuuuggeee RM250 in a trade. It is a really nice bike. I really didn't know much about it when I got it, except that it was very pretty and extremely fast. Anyways, I look it up and find that its the only year of air cooled engine w/ mono shock suspension. Anyways I have been storing the bike ever since on inside of my house and I think its time to make some space. The bike deserves to be ridden more... Honestly, I am a little afraid of how fast it is! And in case you can't tell where this is going... I decided to sell the bike and thought maybe you would be interested. I know its not from the best era or the coolest bike you've ever seen... But it is clean, fast, and pretty dang rare. If you appreciated that I didn't just throw this at you and say BUY MY BIKE and instead wrote a semi-thoughtful write up about it and then hooked in the advertisement at the end.   22. I'm trying to put a bigger motor in my Baja dr70. But I'm not really mechanically inclined I was just wandering the biggest I could fit without having to change anything like mounting brackets etc...
  23. I recently got a 2003 rm125. when I first got it, the bike was running. I went to ride it down to trails, and it was bogging when not in the high rpm range. Then the bike shut off, I started it again, rode for about 2 more minutes in powerband and it cut again. I couldn't get it running so I had to get a ride back to my house. I bought the actual spark plug (the 36.00 one). WhenI kickstart the bike, it sounds like no gas is getting in the engine. I opened and cleaned the carburetor, and checked to see if the float worked. I put the carb back together, and the float would not move. I don't know what the problem is, can anyone help?

I have a 2003 yz125, it’s excessively dripping oil out of the silencer and where it meets the exhaust, there’s a lot of oil, it’s throwing out huge amounts of smoke and starting to foul out plugs. I’ve already replaced the clutch side seal (I’m almost positive it’s coming from the transmission oil) and repacked the exhaust. After that it seemed to stop or at least slowed down. After sitting for a couple months I changed the transmission oil once again and started it up, I let it warm up and didn’t feel like it had the normal amount of power and kinda bogged down, we revved the hell out of it and it cleared up and felt normal. We loaded up and drove out the the desert and I started it with the choke on and let it idle, after about a minute it died and wouldn’t turn over at all. We came back home and took out the spark plug and it was fouled replaced it and it ran again. The next day the same thing happened. Any thoughts on what I should do? The engine was recently rebuilt and I only use it for trail riding and run about a 40:1 ratio. Thanks
  25. Gday lads, I think I’m the first person to ever ask this question, so we’re making history here. Is it bad to accidentally push down the kickstart whilst the bike is already idling? I did this once and let’s just say the noise was not pleasant. My bike, a 2016 RMZ 450, bought it a year ago, semi seized during a 5 minute ride around the neighbourhood, I recently took it to the mechanic and the only fault, thankfully was a bent rod. Is there any correlation at all. Bought the bike for 5k so happy to hear top end was brand new, untouched, along with the transmission and crank.
