  1. I've been reading about remapping the ECU to get better performance on the 2015 FE501, but most of the articles / posts seem to be referring to the "Street" version. I have a "dirt" / "non-s" version. Specifically, I'd like snappier throttle response. Is there any way to get more air / gas through the motor of the non-s version? If so, how do I know what "MAP" I already have? Everybody talking about "EU Map" seem to be referring to "S" version. The course I'm on right now is to get a new exhaust end cap like a PMB (hopefully opening it up?), and a JD Jetting 6x Power Surge EFI tuner. Both of these are hard to source right now in my experience, so would like to figure out if what I'm pursuing even makes any sense before I waste a whole lot (more) of time. Am I on the right course? Flailing in the wind? Completely ignorant?
  2. Any idea on when we may learn more about the 2020 rollout and update of the FE 501? Looking to buy a new one this summer and just curious; trying to balance buying an 18 now, waiting for a possible discount, or simply knowing there will be a "better" 501 in dealerships this summer. Thanks! J
  3. Hey guys! So I too just picked up an 18 FE501 the other week. It does sound like the worst lawnmower I have ever used. But so far it has been way more fun than a lawnmower lol. From the factory the bike has plenty of power and I can see why you wouldn't have to change anything on this bike if you're a casual rider. BUT thats not the case here, I never leave anything stock so by stating that, here we go. Here is a list of what I have already order/whats sitting in my garage ready to be put on the bike. Please chime in if I left anything out that might be important. Installing this week: FMF 4.1 Titanium Slip on Vortex ECU Block off Kit Acerbis handguards Sicass fender eliminator kit Sicass flush rear leds Doctor Racer Husqvarna Lift Strap Kit AXP Xtrem skid plate Bullet Proof Designs radiator guards, front disc guard, and rear disk guard Future Mods: Baja Designs front headlight 3.1 tank Oberon Clutch Slave KICK STARTER KIT Vortex Racing Map Switch What is everyones thoughts on just removing the reeds vs getting a new boot?) https://blaisracingservices.com/2017-18-huqvarna-fc-450-intake-boot-for-2017-18-fe-450/501-reed-cage-removal.html Nuetech Tubeless Tire System Gen 2 Scotts steering dampener Please feel free to chime in and let me know your thoughts on my parts list, a s well as any suggestions! Thank again, and I hope to maybe see some of you out on the trails!
  4. I have a 2018 Fe 501 with only about 60 Miles on it. I noticed today that at idle, if I blip the throttle quickly and then let off the engine will either bog down or die completely. I thought it may be related to the JD tuner I had just installed last night, but I unplugged the tuner and it is still doing it. Has anyone else had this issue? Please help!
  5. I have a 2018 Fe 501. I’m curious about removing th emissions from these bikes and the ktm 500. Is there a performance gain by doing this? Is there anywhere anyone could direct me that has a detailed write up on this and what exactly is involved in the process? Im just curious as to why I hear people are doing this. I don't see what there is to gain from it. Please enlighten me Thanks
  6. Hey so I just purchased a brand new 2018 fe 501. Awesome bike so far. One problem I noticed is when I rode after dark this evening, I could not read my speedometer because it does not stay backlit by itself. The light only comes on when I push a button on it and then it stays on for only about 2 seconds. Is there anyway to change the settings to make it stay on? Maybe auto come on when it’s dark? Or do I have a defective unit? Any help appreciated thanks.
  7. Went out on my 2018 fe501 this morning and got a half mile from the truck, engine died. Fuse 1 (fuel pump) and fuse 2 (not sure yet—haven’t gotten home to look in the manual) blown. Replaced both with the spares, and only got 50 yards the second time. The bike has 25 hours on it. The only electrical issue of any kind is the back of the fender that holds the license plate broke off 10 hours ago and ripped the wires apart, leaving my lights not working, but my brake light and front blinkers still do. I don’t have much experience with electrical stuff. I searched the forum and google several pages deep. Any ideas?
  8. Excited tonight to install the new fmf pipe and the vortex tuner that came today for my 2018 fe501. It only has 9 hours on it Plugged in the box, turned on the key (fuel pump and dash lights come on), and followed the tps endpoint instructions. Kill switch in the off position, throttle at idle, hold the start button. Engine clicked as it usually does when I try to start after forgetting to put the switch in the on position. Then for the full throttle position. But nothing happens that I can hear. ...and now, nothing. Bike is dead. Put the oem ecu back on. Still dead. I did disconnect the battery and let it sit for a while before reconnecting and still dead. I don’t have a meter to check the battery, but it seems like it being that new, it shouldn’t be that. Am I missing something? (Before I call the vendor in the morning?)
  9. I found a 2015 FE 501 that I'm interested in taking a look at. Very low milage. Whats the good and bad on these? I have zero knowledge of Husqvarna besides what I read in forums. Is 2015 a good year or should I spend an extra 3-4K on a '17? Does it have a smooth power delivery or is a beast to handle? I'm currently riding a Beta 250 2 stroke and had a 300 in the past. I'm looking to use it as a dual sport. Also considering a "16 Beta 500. Thanks
  10. So, my header has gotten "stains" on it from riding in the rain. I'd really like to get it looking all shiny again.. Any pro tips?
  11. So, how far do you get on your 501 before the fun is over and gas is needed? If you run at bigger tank than stock please specify the size 🙂
  12. I want to have a more supermotoish fender on my 2015 FE501. I hear some have fitted the FS450 fender on their bikes, but that it requires a custom-/homemade bracket. If somebody could show me how they fitted it i'd appreciate it
  13. So, what type of gas I you use on your 501? where I live we can choose between RON 95 and RON 98. I've been using 95 this far, not really sure if it will be any advantages with the 98. Anyone got any experiences they'd like to share?
  14. So, what kind of tires are you running on your FE 501 when motarded? I currently have the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 Not sure I like em. Had ContiAttack SM on my 690 and was quite satisfied.
  15. I just got my new '17 501FE. I gave some first impressions in a different post so I will not repeat. Short story is I need a good soyrce of KEYED 12V for my GPS hookup (by keyed I mean it turns off when the key is in the off position). I need someone smarter that I to interpret that wiring diagram... I have the service manual and printed the schematic. I can't make much of it -- I am very good at wiring diagrams and have added keyed 12V to many other bikes but this one has me stumped. The ignition switch on and off positions don;t seem like they take 12V and connect to anything - I think I have heard elsewhere that the ignition switch can be entirely removed and two wires connected or one connected to ground to make it a "regular, non-keyed dirt bike (an explanation of that would be great). It seems like this bike lets the ECU control everything and that there is no easy 12V for accessories available, per-se (I hope I am wrong). As part of a desperate experiment (I was running out of time before riding), I took my VOM and probed the wiring harness behind the headlight looking for a hot wire when the bike was running. The strange thing is that many were hot but only periodically!! I would plug my GPS into them and it would power up but then every 10 seconds or so say power was lost only to have it return a few seconds later!! Sure enough, if I measured any of these potential wires with my VOM they would show 13 of so volts for a while and then drop to zero for anywhere from .3 to 1 second before returning back to 13v. Very strange behavior and they were all sort of doing this. I did not haul out the oscilloscope to see detailed behavior but I am willing to do that... I presumably was tapped into something in the ECU. Ok, so that was some bad science and I am willing to move from the errors of my ways with your help. If you can provide insight (along with location on the wiring diagram and wire color) of where I might find reliable 12V when the bike is running, I would be grateful. Please don't say "just hook it to the battery with a switch - that is not my style or the solution I am looking for). Presumably others have interest in getting keyed power for their goodies too. Thanks for your constructive responses.
  16. Hi, I just got my first two days of riding in the N CA woods and trails on my '17 501FE. Eventually, I tipped the bike too far to the kickstand side and it folded under (as the dealer told me it would). Anyway, I am looking for any suggestions on an aftermarket stand. A buddy as the pro moto but they do not list one (yet). Thoughts and help appreciated. Some other first impressions: out of the crate, the bike is amazing (stock everything except 13/48 gearing and signals and rear fender thinned down 😉 ). Bucket loads of endless power down low and up high. I could not want for more. I have zero problems starting or ideal cold or hot (as other express with older models). I see elsewhere on the forum people talk about getting the ECU mapped. My real complaint is that right off of zero throttle the bike "jumps" a bit - I'd like to see that buffered or dulled just a bit for better control - any thoughts on if the mapping addresses that? Suspension is overall good but a front is a bot harsh on the babyheads (I weigh about 185 and had a 25lb backpack). Gearing seems way too low for me so I am going back to at least 14 in the front (I never used first on 100+ miles of tight trails, creeks, etc. Since the bike will pull any gear anytime, 2nd handles everything and 6th is a bot low on the wide-open stuff). If first is a tad higher with the 14 I could see using first if necessary feathering the clutch a few times a day. Thanks for your constructive responses.
  17. Hi. I just picked up my 2017 FE 501. Great bike but did a cool off road ride and by rear indicator lights are full of dirt/moisture. Anyone else run into this?
