  1. Hey guys, question? My son has a 2009 KX250F, I’ve had to rethread the head and find a new spark plug that will thread. I have a NGK Iridium DPR7EIX-9 with a head index of 7.... Will this be ok??? Please help!! I don’t want to put it all back together and damage the engine because of the plug.

Bike is up-jetted to correct jetting, air filter is fairly clean, bike has only got 1200 miles since its most recent top end rebuild recommended is every 6000 miles on this 125 2 stroke road bike, top end was done at garage, always warmed up and ridden nicely. seems to have deep to severe scratches on the piston and cylinder bit, seems to be where the exhaust port is and on that general side. could do with some help on understanding the possible issue so i can stop it from happening again.
  3. How hot should a 125 2 stroke engine get? How do I know if the bike is overheating? The bike seems to be running fine, but I want to make sure it’s not getting too hot. After a 30min ride, I can leave my hand on the cylinder for about a second before I have to take it off. Im relatively new to mx style 2 strokes, so sorry if this is a bit of a noob question 😛 P.S : The bottom end is always hot to the touch as well. I can’t keep my hand on the clutch cover for more than 3 seconds after a long ride.

So i recently wrapped part of the pipe on my ktm exc 450 quad were it was close to my boot, but anyways. i know that it can be a problem if you let water sit in the wrap because it can cause excessive rust in the pipe so i figured if i just warm it up after i get it wet or wash it the water will evaporate, but i was wondering what a good silicone seal would be to spray on it. In the directions it says to use aerosol spray on silicone but i didn't know if somebody had a certain brand or type they found works good to keep out water. (yes ik i am asking about a quad in dirt bike discussion, i figured there might be more relatable answers here) Thank you guys!!

  6. With summer temps on the way, I'm in need of some inside the boot MX pants more suitable for higher temps. Like a good TT'er, I started by searching previous threads, of which there are several, but most seem to be from several years back and when I research reviews of some of the suggested products on RMAV etc., some reviewers say "the old stuff is better ventilated" and since designs change, I thought starting a new thread might be warranted as maybe others are in the same boat as me. Comments in prior posts predominately suggest: Moose Sahara Klim Mojave Fly Lite Hydrogen I'm also curious about the: Klim XC Lite If anyone has experience with these, or other pants they would recommend for hot summer days, your opinion would be much appreciated. P.S. I wear knee braces, so any comments on fit over knee pads / braces would be very helpful too.
  7. Temps are starting to climb into the 70F+ range (21C+). Yeah, sort of. It's nice not to have to bundle up, but with full protection kit on, it can start feeling pretty warm, especially doing laps on an MX track, which has me proactively thinking about strategy for higher summer temps. I have started riding with knee braces (Mobius X8) and wow my knees sweat a ton. I am wearing them right against my skin. Any suggestions for under sleeves that work well in the heat? (I typically wear ankle length socks in my boots and would prefer not to wear thigh high socks, but am open to it if any are designed for hot conditions.) I've searched here in TT and online and haven't found any obvious choices, hence this post. And speaking of, any suggestions for upper body base layers for the heat while I am at it would be most welcome. I've been wearing Craft brand (most known for cross country skiing and cycling), which seem to be pretty high tech, but would be curious what anyone has found works well under typical dirt bike armor.
  8. What is the normal operating temperature at the radiator on a KTM 500 EXC-F? I have a 2017. BACKGROUND I'm new to the KTM world and on the test ride I immediately noticed how hot it ran compared to my DRZ 400 and BMW R1200GS. I put this down to the emission parts. When I bought the bike, I removed those parts and: installed a Vortex ECU installed a radiator temperature sensor and connected it to my TrailTech dash replaced the muffler with a Q4 removed the intake reeds since I live in a hot climate, I also removed the radiator hose thermostat so that coolant runs through the radiator all the time Replaced factory coolant with EngineIce With ambient air temp at about 90 degrees F, and running 65MPH on city streets and also in stop-and-go traffic, I see that the temp at the radiator runs 185-210 or so. I can really feel the heat off of the engine on my body. I'd have thought that the removal of the EPA parts and with the other modifications to get more air in and exhaust out that it would be running cooler. I confirmed that the radiator fan does operate correctly - it's like a hair dryer always blowing on me. Is this normal?
  9. Hey everyone. I've just started to ride my dr650 again after about a 6 month break. As I was taking it down a back road I started to hear a rattle coming from the left side of the bike. At first I could only hear it in 1st gear, after I got back to the main road I could hear it in the lower gears. Where there wasn't a whole lot of noise hiding it. It doesn't do it on smooth roads, and it doesn't do it while idling. At first I thought it might be my home made foot pegs. Alas it still did it even as I was holding them still. Also on the left side the engine is getting very hot fairly quickly. I'm currently waiting for the engine to cool off to knock things aroubd and see if i can find something loose. In the meantime I've been looking up the symptoms and some posts mention the heat shield, but since it isn't rev specific I don't think that's it. Any ideas anyone?
