  1. I've been on a ttr 230 for 2 years & I'm finally upgrading. I'm looking at a newer yz 125. I've had minimal experience on a 2 stroke, so it will be a learning curve, but im super bored of the ttr lol. It's a heavy tractor and I feel like I learned a vast amount from it. Im just ready for an upgrade! I do trail riding, but I also want to do track riding. I live 15 minutes away from one lol. One thing I'm worried about is plug fouling. I've been ripping through the trails im familiar with on my ttr no problem. But I definitely plan on taking it a bit easy until I learn the ropes of a 2 stroke. If it's a newer bike should I really have to worry about going "slow" for a bit? If keeping rpms high avoids fouling, hypothetically, couldn't I just rip it in first & second gear 😂 I've heard mixed things about a 125 being a trail & track bike. The closer range gearing is also going to be something else to get used too. I can get a screaming deal on a 2020 yz 125 at the stealership right now. And with the season here, bikes are hard to come by now where im from. Someone even wants to buy my ttr for more than I paid so im really considering it! I was thinking if I end up not liking the bike, I'll just sell it at the beginning of next season & get something else. 😂 How's your experience on a yz 125 if you're an intermediate rider with minimal 2 stroke experience?
  2. I am an intermediate rider, i have been riding atvs my whole life. Learned on a Honda raptor 250. started to get into dirt bikes in the past year i have a ssr125 looking to up speed and power for a bigger bike. i am 16, 6’0, 160lbs anyone know if a cr125 would be a good bike for me or any recommendations?
  3. Hi all, for the past year I have played with the idea of getting a 250 for honing MX. Though I’m not pursuing Loretta's, I would use this bike for getting into track work and weekend MX. I have about 3 grand set aside for the new (to me) bike. For reference, I grew up riding and wrenching my own bikes in my fathers footsteps. I have 14 years of riding experience, starting with fire roads as a kid and moved on to single track and tight trails as an adult. I am 5’ 7 inches and 155 lbs fully suited. I have some track experience, but I hesitate to call it “experience” as it is mainly tagging along with friends who ride MX. I’m an average rider but in no means an average MXer. I have a lot to learn in that department. Hopefully I can find the right tool for the job! What bikes, and years of production, would you recommend? Locally, I have a Honda/Suzuki dealer I’ve grown up with so I’ve always been a little partial to red and yellow. I’ve seen a handful of 2012-2014 RMZ 250s with low hours. The Honda’s I see are between 2010-2014 and seem a bit more expensive then the Suzuki’s, but still not unreasonable. Thanks
  4. Hey fellas, I’m new to the forum, but have been browsing various threads for some time now. I tried to find some threads that were similar to my situation, but like most posters, mine of course feels unique. I have been looking to buy a dirtbike after a long season of on/off riding (twice-four times a year). I’m 21yo, 5’11”, weighing 195 corn-fed pounds with no gear on. My budget is around $4000, and I will be riding primarily on atv trails and logging roads, as well as exploring smaller mx tracks and single tracks. I also would love to start fostering some mechanic skills. I started riding when I was 13 and worked my way up to feeling comfortable on a Husqvarna wr125 and a crf250x around the age of 16, but that was 5 years ago. Occasionally I go riding with some buddies that have an extra crf230, which is fun, but the suspension bottoms out if I hit a dust pile the right way. But enough background… There is a good deal nearby on a 2011 KTM 350 xcf that looks brand new and comes with some extras (air filters, tires, etc.), and I’ve been seriously considering purchasing it. I feel like if I put a 7oz flywheel weight and G2 throttle tamer on it, it could take enough punch away for me not to launch myself into a tree, ditch, or another person. HOWEVER, I also don’t want to make a $4000 mistake on a bike that scares me every time I ride it. The dirtbike market in my area is surprisingly slim, so I’ve been having some trouble finding the appropriate bike. So instead of buying a new crf230 (the only new bike near my budget), and modding it until its what I need (which will put me way over budget), Id like to see if this ktm will be right for me. I like the idea of a super light bike that has room for me to grow, but I don't wanna hate the bike until I'm skilled enough to ride it well. I appreciate any direction you guys could give me directly or by pointing me to another thread, thank you!
  5. Hi, I am 13 years old and I am trying to decide what bike I want to get (two stroke of course). I'm 5'2 - 5'3 tall, and I weigh 125lbs. I'm a beginner at this, meaning this is my first bike but, I have ridden a dirt bike a few times. My choices are the yz85, cr85, kx85, kx100, sx85, and the sx105 (Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, or Ktm). I am not interested in the rm because I just don't like it. It seems like a cheap crappy (sorry if I offended you) and it doesn't seem to have the speed and power that I want ( at least that's how people describe it to be). So please don't include it in. I am going to buy a used bike on Craigslist or somewhere because this is my first year and I'm not the richest of families (in case that helps.) Right now, I'm confused about which bike to get because they're all good brands. I want to be fast on the track (obviously) and I want to be aggressive. Which bike will fit that role? Can some also explain what top end and bottom end power is and what it helps with when you are listing a bike? Can you include the pro and con of it? I'm also not sure if an 85 is the right size for me, as I want to grow into a bike and have it last me. Maybe I should get a 125, if is so, which one (again, no Suzuki rm)? I'm going to a dealership to sit on some and try some (not too sure about trying some) Saturday but I just want thoughts about this. I don't know ANYONE with a dirt bike so the internet is my only friend here so I am really counting on you. My mom doesn't know anything about dirt bikes or the sport so I have to really look at this stuff myself. If you have any tips, please leave some as they will be helpful for me or any other onlookers in the same situation as I am in.
