  1. Hey everyone I recently acquired a 87 kx250 but the previous owner decided it was a good idea to weld the wrong kick start lever in the wrong position. Does anyone know if the 1987 kx250 shares a kick start mechanism with any other bike? The kdx200 of the same year looks promising but the part number is one number off.
  2. Hey so I’m going to check out a 1994 kx 125 with a nice motor other than a blown top end. I would like to know what years your can part match because it’s very tough finding parts for the 1994. I’m looking for crankshaft and possibly a big bore kit with the jug. Any help would be great please send an email @ arc1122oo4@gmail.com
  3. 2005 KDX200, transmission oil looked milky so we rebuilt the whole water pump (mechanical seal, bearing, whatever other seals are in there. oil is still milky when I drain it. through the sight glass window it looks normal until after a ride in which it looks black but then it drains as milky white color. What could be the source of this? I figure coolant is mixing with it somewhere.
  4. I recently acquired a 1990 KDX200. The bike runs reasonably well for it's age. The first ride over 30 min the gearbox oil started overflowing into the airbox (overflow hose is routed to airbox). The oil that overflowed and the oil in the gearbox are an odd shade of dark forest green. The oil appeared to be overfilled slightly which explains the overflow. What I don't understand is the weird dark blueish greenish gray color of the oil. I believe the PO used motul 10w40 ester gearbox oil because he gave me a half used gallon. I use Motul 710 2t oil which is blue, and run green coolant in the radiator. I drained the gearbox oil and there was a nice little clump of dark gray metalic paste on the magnetic drain plug, which should explain the gray hue. What I do not understand is the greenish blue hue. Anyone know what in the heck is going on with this old horse? The pic shows a sample of my drained oil. When held up to the light it turns more of a green color. Oil still feels slick as can be.
  5. Got a Frankenstein monster of a kawasaki that doesn't run due to no spark. Got compression. The motor is a 1981 KX420 and the frame is a 1983 KDX200. My first step is purchasing a '81 CDI and hoping it fits, next is the air filter box ? Anyone have any experience with KX420s? Seems that they were such disasters that kawasaki stopped producing them asap.
  6. Looking at a JD Jetting kit for my 2005 KDX200. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm not good when It comes to carbs so I thought this might make it easier. let me know your thoughts on it. here's the link to it https://www.jdjetting.com/xcart5/jdka03-kawasaki-kdx200-95-06-kdx220-97-05-.html?category_id=53
  7. recently bought a 2005 Kawasaki KDX200 and I'm in need of radiator guards, skid plate, and other stuff to make It perfect for woods. the only radiator guards I can find are the DeVol ones, there are a bunch of mixed reviews so I was wondering if there was another option from other brands that would fit perfect. if anybody has any other recommendations for parts that would help it perform in woods let me know. Planning on getting an FMF gnarly woods pipe, FMF turbine core 2 silencer, Tusk D-Flex Handguards, moose universal pipe guard or P3 Carbon guard, Moose skid plate, and of course radiator guards. also looking at a rear mx style fender instead of the stock one as well as number plate instead of headlight. Also does anyone know what tires are really good for trails? something that grips well but maybe (if possible) break loose a little when I get on it because that's always really fun. Thanks for the input
  8. So here's the scenario I've been stuck with. Recently bought a KDX200 with a title but that's where the trouble is because the original owner is from Illinois and had the bike and died in September 2010, the family decided to sell the bike in October 2010 but they didn't transfer the title into their name so they sold it in his name after his death. The guy we bought it from had bought it from the original family in October 2010 and he didn't transfer the title into his name either. Then he moved from Illinois to Ohio and still didn't get the title transferred in his name nor transfer it to an Ohio title. It's not stolen because the Vin numbers and everything match up though. Anyone know a way to get the title transferred to Ohio in our name?
  9. Well I just bought into the club. I got an 04 KDX200 for 1700. What should I do first? I test drove it before I bought it and it seemed to run strong. I don't know when the top end was last replaced but I was planning on doing an oil change and changing the coolant in the radiator. I was also wondering what I should do to get it ready for the mountains. (oil/gas ratio, type of oil, carburetor jets, coolant, ect) I live at about 6500 ft of elevation and ride up into around 8000-10,000.
  10. I enjoy riding flowing single track and double track with some small technical sections, nothing insane. I'm also way too cheap to spend thousands of $$$ every riding season on maintenance and rebuilds. I've owned a dual sport 1987 XL185 that was underpowered but predictable and a 1991 YZ125 that was overpowering and exhausting in technical stuff (though I'm not a fan of 2-stroke exhaust and noise). I'm 6'1" and 200 lbs with riding gear. I've narrowed down my choices to Honda CRF250L (heavy and underpowered but low maintenance), Honda CRF250X (smooth power but expensive maintenance), Husky TE250 (smooth power and easier maintenance than CRF250X), Husky WR125 (super light weight and easy maintenance but 2-stroke) and KDX200 (cheap, lightweight but 2-stroke). I realize that the CRF250L is more road oriented and closer to my vintage XL185 - I'm considering putting on more aggressive tires and raising the bars. I like that the CRF250L engine has a 8,000km service interval though it is greatly underpowered. I don't mind trailering a bike, so road worthiness is not a deal breaker. I'm concerned the CRF250L will be cramped for my 6'1" size and I've read that the rear suspension is too soft and sags significantly for anyone over 180 lbs. The CRF250X seems like the best choice for single track and woods riding but I've read that rebuilds can be expensive and complicated. I've ridden the CRF250X a few times and it feels slightly bogged down at lower rpm. The TE250 frame and design look easier for rebuild/maintenance and people have said it is more agile (I've raced mountain bikes most of my life so I appreciate a maneuverable bike). I'm only considering the 2-stroke WR125 and KDX200 because they are super lightweight and should have a smoother power delivery and better low-end grunt than my old YZ125 on the trails. I'm not a fan of the sound or smell of 2-strokes but if it makes the riding experience that much better I would consider a 2-stroke. Hoping to get some feedback before the spring riding season.
  11. This is the cylinder to my 1980 KDX 400 A2. I can't decide if its plated or sleeved, a magnet sticks to the inside of the bore but i saw someone say its eletrofusioned with molybdenum so it could be the coating that's magnetic.... it still runs with compression but i hope to sleeve it this winter with a steel or iron sleeve so i can bore it as needed.
  12. Part of the expansion chamber broke off around where it connects to the silencer. (See attached picture) Will this affect the bike at all? [1985 KDX200] I've taken it on 2 rides so far, the bike is obviously louder (ear piercing), but will this affect the power/top speed? It sounds and feels like it hits power-band much quicker, but doesn't deliver as much power as before. Thanks!
  13. Hey I'm 14 and am looking to buy a new quad/bike. I am selling my yz85 currently I'll tell you what bikes I have owned/ rode crf50-xr80-yz144-yz85 kfx50-yamaha blaster-raptor80 and I've riden Polaris 500's and they seem pretty sweet . The riding near my house is, a bog, single track, power lines, mud and sand. I feel like a atv would be better for mud and the rooty trails but I love the 75+ mph speed from bike and being able to jump/throw them around. Some bikes/ quad I've been looking at, keep in mind I have about 1500-2000 crf250x all brand 250f's raptor 700 400ex 300ex another blaster? Please help me with suggestions. I'm 120 and 5'5 and I feel comfortable on a 250f I've riden a few. Thanks
