  1. I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran amazing after it first bought it used. I was riding one day with a bogging issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb, checked the reeds, and tried hill starting it but nothing .When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies. There is spark coming from the plug though.I took the cylinder off and the piston and cylinder are &%$#@!ed.The piston rings were stuck in the grooves and I had to use pliers and a screwdriver to get it out. There was a ton of blow-by and the cylinder was scored.I bought a new piston already but how can I fix my cylinder.Im thinking of getting it repaired and replayed by either millennium,PowerSeal USA, or usnicom. This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.
  2. I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran AMAZING after it first bought it used and was in beautiful condition and I picked it up for only 2500. I was riding when all of a sudden it started bogging down right before the power band.i don’t think it’s jetting because the bogging just turned on like a switch and it was running perfect before it. The bike was like that for a month. Apparently the previous owner never oiled the filter so it was dry as a rock and was falling apart and got sucked into to the intake so I’m guessing my power valve is gummed up or stuck close or open. I was riding one day with the bog issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb, checked the reeds, and tried hill starting it but nothing. When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies.I don’t remember if I left the fuel petcock on but what I’m guessing is that I flooded the engine and tried starting which messed up my electronics. The reason why I think I flooded the Engine is because when I took off the reeds the intake manifold and reed were soaked in gas.I heard that starting the engine while flooded can mess with a woodruff key or your CDI or something. There is spark coming from the plug though. And yes I mix the gas with oil at 32:1 cause I’m in the pipe all the time. This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.
  3. So I’ve got a klx 125 that I’m fixing for someone they told me to get it running so first thing I did check spark plug needs a new one but should be fine for testing purposes then cleaned the jets after this I got it to start but was back firing after deceleration so cleaned the carb again just to make sure jets were clear then it wouldn’t start unless bump started so I made sure fuel air screw’s were adjusted after I thought it had to be mechanical so I checked the valves the exhaust was off a little so I adjusted it and then it started right up again still backfiring so I shut it off and tried to start it again(didn’t start) unless bump started step 3 timing chain??????? I don’t know what to do next so what do you guys think?
  4. So I've got a 1993 husky wxc250 2t , but that doesn't matter too much I just need a starting point on something that went wrong. I was about ten minutes into my ride when this happened - I was about halfway through third gear, not an excessive rpm, and I heard a very aggressive noise from the motor, I pulled in the clutch and coasted to a stop (the motor had died). I was almost positive I had blown the motor and it was going to be seized. But when I pushed the kick starter down everything was fine. I pushed it back home, pulled the plug, turned it over, turned it through all the gears and nothing felt wrong. So I figured I would just start it up and give it a shot. I started it up and it sounded fine on idle, but as soon as a gave it any throttle a very loud "clanking" noise came from the top end. Almost comparable to a rod knock, but I can tell it is coming from the top end. My best guess would be something in the power valves, I am experienced with working on motors but power valves are new to me. What do you guys think it is? I'm just looking for I tip before I tear into it. Thanks in advance - Devin
  5. Hello folks, quick background of myself: Been working on 2 strokes and motorcycles for about 12 years or more now. Have had probably 50-70 motorcycles in all as well over the years. I feel like I am a competent mechanic and I pride myself with being able to work and fix my own stuff. Anyhow I have a 1993 KTM 300 EXC here that I have slowly went all through and somewhat of doing a mild restoration. The motor has been sleeved and bored over to 72.5mm with a wiseco rod, piston, and rings. PWK38 I believe for the carb (I don't think it would be a PWK39?). Basically the bike has got new seals, gaskets, fuel lines, filters, carb rebuilt, fuel system flushed, coolant system flushed, and basically everything you would do to start fresh. Now I have tried setting the carb with the mixture screw 1.5 turns out from seated as well as the idle screw being turned in about 2 turns from first contacting the slide. I have only been able to start this bike ONE TIME and it acted rich as can be and would not idle on its own. I have tried screwing out the air screw as this would lean out the idle circuit but since doing so I have not been able to start the bike. I am wearing boots but have now hurt the arch of my foot bad enough now from kicking it over and over and over that I will have to wait a few days before I can kick it again. I feel like this thing has 220PSI of compression or more. Assessing the spark plug after trying to start it from screwing the air screw out 2.5 or 3 turns out instead of the 1.5 that I was initially able to start the bike on but the plug looks even richer now. I don't know how or why this is happening but it appears my air screw is acting like a fuel screw and the more it is screwed out the richer the bike gets. I can't verify this though as I have only been able to hear it run on the 1.5 rotation out on the screw. It seems to flood the engine right away so I have been trying to start with no choke. I purchased the bike as a runner and never changed any of the jets so it's using the same jets that the bike was previously running on for the previous owner. I don't see how using these same jets from before would cause the bike to be so rich now that it can't even start.. I have taken the carb off multiple times now and verified everything is as it should be and set correctly. Out of every single bike I've owned I have never had one so hard to start or so hard to kick over. Hell, my YZ450F with a high compression 478 big bore kit at 12.8 to 1 compression wasn't nearly as bad as this KTM. Does anyone have any advice at all before I kick the bucket on this one? I have tried all the tricks I know, and I am pulling my hair out now. I swear if this bike had a damn decompression lever, I wouldn't even be here typing this.. So this one may be going up for sale soon... Sucks cause everything is new or gone through so someone ought to enjoy it as I don't think I'll get to.
  6. 8. Hey so I just did the 3x3 mod and jd jet on my 2013 drz400s after riding around my neighborhood to warm the bike up and coming back to adjust the fuel screw which is at 1.5 -2 turns out i heard my fan come on after i turned the bike off and left the key in on. Ive never heard my fan come on since i have had the bike about three weeks now. I have the red needle with the clip 3rd down. 155 main? 25 pilot. I used red because im in the Inland northwest where its been 80-90 degrees during the summer but chilly in spring and fall. i am riding at about 2000-4000 elevation. please help did i use the wrong jets? i was able to peel out on asphalt in second going around a corner lol wasnt able to do that before
  9. Hi, I am not sure what to do about an issue I'm having with my 2011 KX 250F any suggestions thanks Checked the oil level it was good, started it with the high idle on, started on 3rd kick, shut high idle off 30 sec later, let it idle normally for 3 min. Drove down road about 500 ft, never reached high RPMs yet, it squealed and skidded to a stop, left it for 2 min (trying to figure out what to do) pushed down the Kickstarter slowly seemed normal plenty of compression, kicked it over and wouldn't start unless I gave it some gas, let it run for 30 sec and cycled through all the gears no issues, I drove it back to my shop and let off the throttle and it died. Tried to start it the next day it will fire but won't run, checked the camshaft clearance is good (it was replaced about 6 months ago, after a similar issue of the bike skidding to a stop) what else should I check before taking it to the shop, thanks
  10. Okay so i have had this ds80 for awhile i bought it about 3 months ago and its a 1986 suzuki ds 80 shes in pretty rough shape when i got her dirt and grime wise not to mention she wont start. I began taking the engine apart looking at the fuel thats coming in and noticed on the spark plug that it was fouled up with uncompressed two stroke fuel and that their was barely any transmission oil in the low end so i set out and bought some good top of the line gear oil and regular pil tried to start it like that but it wouldnt work i checked for spark against the cylinder head and it checked out and i was getting fuel so my next thought my seasoned rider friends told me i didnt have enough compression because it was easy to crank over i put my finger over the spark plug hole and cranked it over and their was a decent amount. May i also mention that when i got it the ds8p was flooded and i had to undue that. So after taking apart the engine and the carb the bowl and lower end of the carb were the float resides is super ate up and riddled with white metal oxidation which is from water obviously so i cleaned that up and my next idea is that their is a compression issue so when taking the head off both the piston and cylinder walls looked perfect without almost any scratches whatsoever and their was slight carbon build up inside but that was it eveeything looked great. Was wondering what it could be now my friend just suggested it is most likely the crank bearings or something of that sort but i dont know what it could be.
  11. hello everyone. recently purchased a 2012 KTM 150 SX. guy told me all it needed was a refresh on the top end(obviously piston and rings specifically) so i get the bike home start breaking it down, get it down to bare frame then go into the head and the cylinder jug has a piece of it missing (i think the piece that is missing was some kid of tab that guided the piston, but with that piece gone it blew the back of the piston skirt out. oh did i mention the engine was filled with water? i drained it before taking the motor apart. anywas, smh... i have a lot of money into this bike, a new cylinder barrel/jug is almost $1,000 from ktm. if that was all it needed id say fine and just put the money out (have to pay for quality) but thats not all the bike needs so i cant go that route. on the other hand, i dont want to give up on the project because i know how beautiful it would turn out. not to mention its a FREAKIN' KTM!!! what im getting at is does anyone have or maybe knows someone who might have a cylinder jug for a 2012 150sx? ive checked ebay, letgo, craigslist and all of the typical for sale sites... please if anyone knows ANYTHING/ ANYONE please reach out. im almost tempted to say id even take a head from a 125sx? facebook profile: https://www.facebook.com/kevin.okeefe.965
  12. I have been riding for about two years now. I'm 15 and 5'6". I'm used too the torque on the ttr125. Will a ktm 85sx have enough torque for me? I ride at Whane National Forest and it has some moderate hill climbs. The ttr125 does great on the climbs. With the 85 have the torque for me? Give me all your advice!!
  13. hey there I've got a 1983 yamaha yz250. this is my first bike and I'm the third owner. the second owner i bought it off off believes the engine was rebuit because the motor pulls stong he says. by the time i pulled up to his house the bike wouldnt start and he said the carb is really clogged up and its been sitting for 8 months. i managed to get him down pretty low so i bought it. $460 CAD so this is the problem. i got my friend to clean the carb since he knows how and it took him about an hour. we then put it back together. we completely drained the fule and went and got premium fuel and i think we used a 40:1 mix ratio. we also flushed the coolant and replaced that with new coolant. we then tried starting thr bike and it didnt start. we thought maybe the engine was flooded so we took out the spark plug and it was wet. sl we dried out the engine and then tried starting it again. it started after about 30 or 40 kicks while holding full throttle. at this point it was about 9pm and we were tired. we drove it around in first gear killed the bike and gave it two kicks and it started up. we then shut off the fuel while and let the bike shut off so we dont flood the engine again. a week later we go to work on it again cause the idle wasn't the best so we cleaned the carb completely, put it back on and it took about 30 mins of me and my friend taking turns kicking the bike to start it up. once it started up we let it warm up gave it a few revs amd then went onto drive it. im new at dirtbiking so i stalled it. gave it two kicks right away and it started we drove it on my street in first gear only and brought the bike back. i stalled it coming to a stop but then gave it 1 kick right away and it started up right away. i then let it idle for a few mins then i stalled trying to move the bike. i was talking to my friend for about 1 minute and kicked it again and it didnt start. we had to spend another 30 minutes kicking it to start it again. and once we started it we did the same thing. drove it then killed the engine and gave it two kicks right away and it started. after that we killed it waited 1 minute and it wont start again. so basically once the bike is started after an exhausting amount of kicks. u cant shut it off for more than one minute or it won't start again... yes the bike has compression. brand new fuel. brand new spark plug i got it the same day it took alot of kicks to start it. also we tried starting it with the air filter off incase it was dirty but its pretty clean. any help at all will be appreciated and i hope u guys can help me fix this! thanks for your time

  15. I recently bought a ttr 125 that needed a lot of work, the float bowl in the carburetor was sticking so I tried to replace the jet on the float bowl but got the wrong size jet and go impatient so I tried to make it fit, long story short I needed a needed a new carb. I bought a new stock carb and now when I start it up it revs up super high and doesn’t stop, adjusting the fuel and air screws didn’t seem to do anything. Any suggestions?
  16. PLEASE NEED HELP!! got a basket case 03 yz125. Went thru from top to bottom.
