I recently acquired an rm125 and am considering doing a handful of local woods/track races. I have raced 250f’s in C class and have also ridden 250s and 450s leisurely. I am 5’8 and about 180lbs with riding gear. Suspension settings aside, would a 125 be able to handle that weight in a C class setting? Any opinions are appreciated!

So, I got this bike a few years ago, never really paid attention to the exhaust on how it was installed until now. There is a gold series fatty pipe on it with the stock silencer. According to the manual it’s supposed to be screwed into the the subframe on the outside instead of the inside. Which I think to be true as well since my tire rubs against the silencer after a jump or bumps. Or is this just normal? Yes all the exhaust screws are loose to allow the exhaust to adjust while still not seeming to fit properly, it also seems like it’s too low as you sort of haft to force it upwards to mount it. Possibly damaging it. Also I would love to replace this silencer with a FMF silencer, so let me know what’s a good silencer to pair with my gold series fatty. Thanks!

Hello everyone, so i just replaced the clutch plates in my rm100 i noticed there was one extra metal plate at the back that shouldn't be there, anyway after putting everything back together and taking it for a ride as soon as it gets into powerband the bike just revs to the moon and doesn't go anywhere is there anything i should have checked/replaced?. theatrically if the clutch springs were worn and not as tight as they should be would it make sense that someone would put an extra metal plate at the back to space out the clutch plates and have more tension on the springs to avoid replacing them?. any help would be appreciated cheers

rm125 Hidden gem of a carburetor
BustedMuffler posted a topic in Motorcycle Jetting & Fuel Injection
Bought a 1997 Rm 125 recently and was going through it and found out it has some extensive carb modifications. Stock carb was 36 mm and this one was bored out to 38. Choke circuit was filled in and blocked off also. Would anyone know the reason for blocking off the choke? Carburetor also seems shortened by a few mm -
I just bought a 2003 rm 125 and it goes into neutral and first but doesn't go into second gear. I haven't split the cases yet but what could it be a bent shift fork or broken gear?

HI guys, last post recieved great help so hoping the same here, basically I think I’m experiencing some timing issues on my 02 rm125. The timing marks on the magneto were slightly out by like a degree or less, in favour of an earlier spark, worried that I was gunna fry the piston, I moved the timing marks by a degree in favour of a later spark just for piece of mind that I wasn’t harming my freshly rebuilt engine, since doing this o think I can hear the bike ‘pinging’ when riding at a steady speed, and has developed a ticking noise from the top end, it runs okay maybe a little splutter before the valve opens and possibly down on power a little but I ride a sports bike so maybe it’s just not that fast compared, but once it’s cleared out it sings through the gears as it should, can anyone help? Will post a picture of current position on magneto, also I haven’t proper tool for measuring tdc but by feel on the fly wheel this is pretty much where it’s at, that can’t be right considering the crank turns anti clockwise?

Last Month I purchased a 1995 Suzuki Rm125. The previous owner told me the MT on the side of the cylinder stands for moto tassinari/Vforce because it was ported by them. my question is does moto tassinari/ Vforce even do Cylinder porting? thanks. haven't seen this anywhere else. Please help me understand.

Hello all, So back in November I picked up an rm125 in a few 5 gallon buckets and have been sorting through it all. Had at least 2 transmissions and 2 sets of cases (last dude that had the bike somehow exploded the counter shaft in the transmission, but the bike came with an extra transmission that is fine...I know, how does that happen?) Anyway, I picked up a new crank and bearings, but am using the one good tranny that came with the bike because it's not damaged and seems to only have normal wear. I had to piece the good transmission together as both the main and counter shafts were disassembled. I just pushed the cases together but for some reason the main shaft doesn't spin as freely as it probably should. It will shift through all of the gears fine, but just has drag when spinning by hand. It did spin freely prior to the cases being pressed together. The counter shaft spins normally. Has this happened to anyone? From what I can tell, and from the OEM manual, the tranny is together correctly, but for some reason this thing is just not spinning correctly. Could it be a worn washer or simply friction? Just trying to avoid splitting the cases even though I will probably end up doing so. Thanks

Hey everyone, I picked up a 2004 RM125 a while back and did a lot of work to it. Its running great now. However, the only problem I cant figure out is this: every time I shift from first to second, only while under load, the bike hits neutral. This happens while shifting down too. It feels almost as if neutral is a normal gear, comparable to that of a numbered gear, and the bike shifts into it as such. While the bike is stationary or off I can shift between first and second no problem which leads me to believe it isn't a transmission problem? I'm currently running Ecstar 10w-40 per the manual. Should I try a different oil? I've adjusted the shifter position and ensured it is tight. What could the problem be? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 03 klx125 and i keep hearing a loud knock (in my crankcase?); so i'm assuming a rebuild is in my near future. This is my first dirt bike btw and i don't know much. is it worth getting a rm or kx motor? Or easily possible? Would it be ok to get a 250 and throw it in there? I heard the 125/250 frame are the same and that the kiwi and suzuki frame were the same. If anyone has any experience with this klx rebuild id like to have your input.

So for my 2018/2019 winter project, I picked up an '03 suzuki rm125, which I basically got as a rolling chasis and a few 5 gal buckets full of parts. Fast forward past new bottom end bearings, new crank, new cylinder/ piston and a bunch of other stuff, the day finally came to start the bike and take her for a spin. It started pretty flawlessly, clicked into 1st no problem, but asI let the clutch out to actually "go", the bike doesn't move. It feels like it has very weak pull when giving it gas. Also, if the bike is on the stand and I have it running (and in gear) the rear wheel will spin when I give it gas. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be causing this? There are grooves in the clutch basket, which I've never had this issue with other bikes that have worse basket grooves in them so I was almost ruling it out. I've also fiddled around adjusting the actual lever play and clutch arm multiple ways without any luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hey guys, I recently rebuild my 02 rm125 top end. I realized The rod connecting the power valve to the bottom end was in front of the part is attachs to. So I tried to get it behind the piece without taking the cylinder off, and the rod is now stuck all the way up. It can move around but not up and down. Please help.

Hey guys, I recently got my cylinder re sleeved. The head was also in very very bad shape, so the mechanic fixed that also. It had lots of deep gouges and scratches. The piston now hits the head before it can reach top dead center so the kickstart will not move. I don’t know what to do, can anyone help?

Just got a nice 2003 rm125 starts first or second kick, when I ride it, it spits black oil out the muffler. I run 32-1. Would u suggest a new muffler or does it need re jetted? I know the guy before me ran 40-1 and it still spitted a little oil out the muffler. Also to add what is a good indicator that your bike needs rebuilt?

I've got a 2007 Suzuki rm125 and it's been made road legal what sprocket sizes would people recommend for road use as I blew it up on the current size sprockets I know they're not built for going flat out in straight lines

I am really interested in buying a rm125 2005 and I’m new to mechanics I’ve only worked on a 50cc so I would like to know how I would fix a rm125 that’s stuck in 2nd gear

Hey guys, I overheated my bike and blew a head gasket and flooded the cylinder with coolant I was wondering where to go from here. I was told its an easy fix but where do i start? what parts do I get?? Thanks!

Bike is a 1999 Suzuki RM125. I had the crankshaft rebuilt, so during the install I had put in new crank bearings, new crank seals, new case gasket, new reeds, and a new top end. I also cleaned the carb and put in the recommended jets for my exhaust and elevation/temperature. I run 32:1 fuel mix. I also put in a new primary gear, which is what contacts the oil seal. I put axle grease into the seal before inserting the primary gear. The bike smokes more than it should, and I'm pretty sure the cause is that transmission oil is leaking into the crankshaft area and eventually getting into the cylinder. I would top off the oil and check the level with the little bolt on the side of the clutch cover. After a while of riding I would take the bolt out and I would have to tip the bike quite a bit for anything to come out. I don't understand why it could leak. I also topped off the coolant, and the level stayed the same, so that's not leaking. Do you think its still getting in through the seal? If not, where could it get in from? There was quite a discussion as to the orientation of the seal itself here, but since that post I have installed a new seal with spring side out (which is different than most bikes, but I think that's what the manual says).

hey guys, my old rm125 is spooging and whenever i get on the gas it smokes a ton. It hits powerband pretty good I think, then again I have no idea as this is the only dirtbike ive ridden. My plug is wet, i have a keihin pj carb with a 155 main which I think is lean so I have no idea why it smokes so much. I mix 32:1 and used kawasaki racing 2 stroke oil, maybe this oil just smokes lots? I have no where to really get it on the pipe for a long time so it could be just loaded up. I just did a full engine rebuild with new crank seals and it seems my gear oil is not going down. I will keep an eye on it tho. I think i might just go to the original mukuni tmx carb that was stock. The guy i bought it from was a hack so Im not surprised if the carb is completely off. I am also running atf so I think it would smell like atf, and right now all the smoke is blue. Thanks

So I'm working on my co-workers 2002 RM125 that he picked up last summer for $500 - down the molehill we go. He asked me to fix it up on his dime, so I did all the normal stuff to the chassis, new tubes, replaced some spokes, new cables, repacked the silencer...blah blah etc. Now the problem - The engine has a mean stutter when riding it when it tries to come on the powerband - wont clean out and almost sounds like a misfire. Will clean out an run well when warm on the stand. Here's what I've done and checked: Nothing has worked. (FSM = factory service manual) -Head re-cut back to stock specs by Williams Moto Werx -New piston ring -Piston has 2~hrs on it -Cylinder measured in spec (End of spec it has a steel sleeve) on a CMM -Cleaned PV -New Boyesen Reeds -Cleaned carb -Jetted per FMF spec -Reset float height per FSM -New Plug -Verified PV is functioning -Re-set PV spring tension per FSM -New Airfilter -Brand new FMF Factory Fatty -Verified Electrical components (Coil, stator, kill switch) with multimeter and FSM I'm leaning towards a bad CDI box, or maybe slight chance of left side crank seal leak (All thats left to check lol). Anyone have any insights, sanity check, or a 2001-2007 RM125 CDI box laying around I can borrow to check bikes performance? Or that they want to sell?

As the title suggests, I'm looking into the possibility of getting on an RM125 with the caveat being my height. At 5'2-5'3, the stock seat height is way too high on an '03 (37" or so). Are there any vertically challenged folks riding this bike? I saw koubalink has a lowering link that drops the rear 1.25" which can be used in conjunction with a shaved seat (1.5-2") which may be enough. Is there anything else that can be done on the cheap? I found one on CL for $1,500 that looks to be in pretty good shape.

I have a 1999 Suzuki RM125. On the left side of the cylinder there is a knob. The knob is to adjust the spring tension of the exhaust valve/power valve. I know how to tighten/loosen the spring tension, but I don't know what the tension should be or how many turns it should be at, or where in the rev band it should open up. There is a little indicator with an arrow pointing clockwise, but again, I don't know how many turns to start at and where it should point, etc. Can you guys help me out? Thanks!
