  1. I just bought a 2003 KTM 125 SX from craigslist the guy I bought it from only owned the bike for a couple weeks but the guy who owned the bike before had supposedly just rebuilt the top end, I also believed he probably raced with it cause hes got his name on the decals and numbers on it. When I went to pick it thought it sounded fine but I'm not familiar with 2 strokes and I showed it to my Dad and started it up and he pointed out a noise that sounds kind of like a rattle or something and I'm not sure if that is just a normal noise for this bike or if there might be an issue that I should look into. Also the bike looks really clean its got a new fmf pipe on it and supposedly new boysen reeds but the day I brought it home I went ahead and did an oil change and it was verrrry dirty. If anyone is familiar with this bike or has any advise I would really appreciate it!!! Thank you!! Here is a link to a video of the bike running
  2. Looking for help diagnosing my clutch on my 2009 ktm sx150. The last few rides I’ve been noticing some clutch drag when cold and at a stop in gear to the point where the engine won’t really run in gear with clutch in unless giving some revs to keep alive. It would get better when warm and would only drag ever so slightest. But now today I was on a ride and towards the end I started noticing the clutch slipping when getting on the pipe which it was definitely not doing this morning or before today. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thx
  3. I got this KTM for free and I want to restore it but I can't figure out what year or cc it is. Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated. I'll attach some pictures. Thanks for any help identifying this bike! It's pretty.. beat up.. that would be an understatement. It's going to be a labor of love to restore this thing but before I start I need to figure out what exactly it is. VIN says KTM8609*41691*. The airbox says 545.06.001.000.
  4. YZ125 2003 I was riding and was running low on fuel and thought I could make it and I figured out that I couldn’t, but I found that out pinned top of 4th gear, had a friend bring me mixed gas 32/1 with maybe 10% ethanol, put it in and noticed I had 0 compression. I am wondering if it is possible that I messed up the engine by running it empty, tried to bump start to just bogging. What do y’all think, I am not experienced with 2 strokes yet to much and am thinking that maybe from the lack of lubrication that I messed up the cylinder head, but I hope to have some vet responses. Thank you all.
  5. My local track (orlando mx park) was recently redone and now has very tight, flat, hard packed corners with some of the jumps starting right as a corner ends. Here is a video (not mine) of another rider on the track for reference: I am struggling on getting power out of these corners along with being in the right gear. Unfortunately I have yet to find another 125 rider at the track to talk to, mostly four stroke riders with the occasional 250 two stroke here. So I thought I'd look around here for other 125 riders that have ridden similar tracks. Main things I want to figure out: 1. With cornering, should I slip or fan the clutch? 2. What gear should I be in at various points on the track? Not sure if anyone can judge this from a video. 3. As far as gear selection if a corner immediately goes into a jump or technical section, should I enter the corner in a higher than normal gear and use the clutch or get faster at shifting? One last thing that is more general to dirt bikes. When I go to upshift, I have issues getting my boot under the shifter. The shifter height is set so the bottom of the round portion is just above the tops of the spikes on the pegs. When I'm trying to get the boot under, it feels like I can't move it forward and is hung up on the peg spikes. What am I doing wrong?
  6. Hello, I’m hoping someone has this figured out but I have a 97 cr250 with the one piece radiator. I don’t want to buy a used OEM one. I’m replacing mine because of a leak. I bought a GPI radiator and it did not fit. With the handlebar turned all the way to the right, the triple clamp hits the radiator cap before the bars bottom out. I compared it to the OEM one and the radiator cap is swept back to the rear of the bike avoiding that problem. If anyone knows of another brand that works that would be great. Image of the GPI one is down below.
  7. Hello, I recently picked up a 2006 Honda CR125R coming from a 2008 Yamaha yz85. In my YZ85, I normally ran 10w30 oil in the transmission. I used some top notch expensive stuff once but could not afford to pay $25 for oil since I ride trails and change the oil pretty much every 3 rides. In my 2006 Honda CR125, could I run the 10w30? Or is 10w40 better since my bike is older? Like I said, I ride trails. I mostly stay in the first 3 gears. I would MOSTLY like to know if either 10w30 or 10w40 is better considering I have both in my garage. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
  8. I might be the smartest, dumb-guy or the dumbest smart-guy--I'm not sure. Help me. Premix ratios seem to assume that a gallon of gas weighs the same as a gallon of water...128 ounces. In reality, gasoline is less dense than water. For the sake of argument, the Department of Energy had a blurb that stated one gallon weighs 6.3 pounds...100.8 ounces. So, when I mix 2.6 ounces of two-smoke oil in, I'm making a 39.4:1 ratio. A true 50:1 ratio is about 2 ounces. Here it comes: do two stroke oil makers/engine manufacturers factor this in? If so, great. If not, I'm running a fat mixture in my KTM (which it seems just fine with).
  9. So I have been researching and creating a list of parts hat I need to buy for my bike. I was looking for a set of main bearings and I come across these all balls racing ones on EBay. I am trying to do this build on a budget, but I also Don’t want to cut corners. Do these look like a good buy to you guys?
  10. Hey guys, I got a 2002 rm125. I recently rebuilt the top end and water pump. For the first start of the bike I only idled it for about 1 minute or even less. No throttle at all. I put the bike back in the garage and came back a couple days later to see all the coolant in the bike was spewed out of the overflow. When I rebuilt the water pump, I spun the impeller while it was out of the bike and it had some resistance to it. Anyone know what is could be?
  11. Does any body know the torque spec for the fly wheel cover bolt? I think that is what it’s called, it’s the thing that you put the fly wheel puller on. And before you tell me to go look at my user manuel I already did and I didn’t see anything
  12. So when I bough my 2005 yz85 the guy I bought It from said that the carburetor was as jetted for 80 degrees. At the time of year when I ride where I live it is very rarely 80 degrees. I don’t really trust the guy who sold my the bike for various reasons so I figured I would like to just bring my carb jetting back to stock and run it that way because the seller really didn’t seem to know what he was we talking about. I Have also heard that the wrong jetting can really damage a two stroke engine, so while I am doing all the other work I would like to go ahead and rejet my carb too. I have heard a lot about re jetting carbs but I don’t exactly know what this is. I know you have to change some thing out in the carburetor but I don’t know what those are. Can some one explain?
  13. So I just recently bought a 2005 Yamaha Yz85 and I am new to two strokes completely. I was riding it around my yard and kind of getting used to the power band. I've heard this about the two strokes that the power is all or nothing. I learned this while riding, but I struggled in the turning around and things going around trees and stuff like that. Once you hit the power band and you let off the throttle, you can't get back on the throttle without extreme bogging. How should I corner so that I can maintain some speed. Keep in mind that I'm not riding on a track, I'm just trying to learn how to make turns and not bog out and loose all of my power. Any advice appreciated.
  14. So I am about to sell my bike and buy a Yamaha yz85. This is a two stroke bike and the seat height of the model year I want is 34 inches and I am only 5’ 1” so the bike will be a little big on me. I have seen lots of videos on two stroke power bands, but I am not sure when the power band kicks in. (I am new to two strokes so I might not be using the right terms) I have also seen lots of people doing wheelies and crashing because of the power band and I am not sure if this is something I should be worried about, or if it can just be solved with good clutch control. I really don’t know. As always any response would be appreciated. thanks!
  15. I am going to take apart the top end of my 2005 Yamaha Yz85 to asses some damage. This will be my first time taking apart the top end of a two stroke. From videos I have watched, it looks like a need to take off the header, the gas tank. and the radiator. Does any body have any suggestions on what order I should take these things off in? Any other tips on two stroke top ends would be helpful!
  16. So the lower rod bearings on my yz85 are on their way out, and I need to get a kit to replace the rod and rod bearings. Is Pro X a food brand? If not can you guys recommend some brands to me?
  17. Hello people I need some ideas. This might be somethin extremely dumb to some or most of you... but I cannot for the life of me or my friend here figure this out. I have a CR80R from 01 that I Had to split the case apart to put a new crank in, bearing was bad and so on... anyways, put the new crank in and put the cases together exactly as everything went together before in the transmission, nothing was really taken apart anyways so it nothing is out of place, the shift drum wouldn’t move when we tightened the case bolts. Took the transmission, with only the shift drum in the bottom end, made sure both bearings are seated properly, we have a gasket in so the case halves are perfectly spaced as from the factory, but the shift drum still gets stuck as we tighten the bolts. Why is this HAPPENING.
  18. How can I street legalize my CR 85 expert? I was wondering the specifics of what I’ll need to convert my bike to a dual sport. If you could provide me with any information, please do. Thanks! 🙂
  19. I ride a 2005 Kawasaki KDX200 and I about ran out of gas on a ride today at a national forest and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a bigger gas tank than the ClarkeMFG 3.6 gallon tank for my bike.
  20. Whether you're a seasoned wrench who justs wants to compare notes or a top-end rebuild No0b, here's a great article on the subject, including pics. Give it a read, share any comments in the comment section, and share with an any 2 stroke ridin' buds that might benefit from it. https://thumpertalk.com/articles/how-to-rebuild-the-top-end-in-your-two-stroke-r878/
  21. I bought a RM125, which is modded out to a 144 and after riding about a lap and a half it starts cutting out at high rpms. I cleaned the carb two or three times put a new spark plug in it and it is still cutting out. Also checked the reeds and they seem to be in great shape. Thought about swapping the stator with one I know works and trying that out. Anyone have suggestions? I have a video from my GoPro of it cutting out and bogging down but I can’t seem to upload it. Thanks for any input!
  22. I am currently rebuilding my rear shock on my 2006 Honda CR85R and I was wondering if it is worth it to continue rebuilding my shock or if I should buy a new one. I am not able to get a $200 plus one as of now and I was wondering if there were any other good options for a shock that would fit a 2006 Honda CR85R. If I continue to rebuild it, does anyone have any ideas on how to get the center piece Schrader valve out without a special tool or super skinny pliers?
  23. Hey guys so I have a 97 kx 100 that I bought used and since I’ve had it the most I can ride on it is 5 miles before it runs out of gas. I’ve had several people look at it and have rebuilt the carburetor , put new Jets in it , messed with the sizes and settings as well as followed what’s in the service manual for recommended settings etc and Its still a mystery & at ill runs out of gas quickly. It doesn’t idle AT ALL and the clutch isn’t very responsive other than that it runs GREAT I just really wish I could get to the root of the issue. I’m new to the mechanics of dirtbikjng so if I sound uninformed or some of these things aren’t related that’s why but I’m very eager to learn and understand so anything helps. Thanks in advance
  24. I recently installed an 11 oz fww on my 2018 tc 250. I noticed right away that there was more vibration so I removed the fww. The vibration hasn’t gone away now so I’m thinking that torquing on the fww might have caused the crank to go out of round. I torqued the fww to manufactures spec of 42 ft lbs. vibration is steady throughout the rpm range and very noticeable
  25. My dad and I finally got around to finishing up my bike! It starts first kick and sounds really good. It doesn’t smoke or leak any fluids. I am in the break in process and like I said it starts right up but it doesn’t want to keep and idle. I have been giving it little blips if low-rpm throttle and it doesn’t bog and stays running fine but as soon as you let off the throttle it just kinda fizzles out. I don’t want to go messing with the idle screw because this might just be because it’s all new stuff in the engine. I just figured I’d ask you guys about it before I did anything dumb. Ps thank you guys for all the help along the rebuild process I really couldn’t have done it without the help of yall.
