New to the Northern Virginia area and looking for Trail riding areas . I’m in Alexandria and can trailer my bikes . They are enduros and tagged so I can hit some roads legally to get to some riding spots . Anybody with suggestions let me know. Looks like Spring May finally be upon us here ! thanks !

Hello all, I was wondering if someone could help me get the answer to my question? I recently Bought a dirt bike and im looking to get into trail riding in Virginia (just trail riding), do I have to register my bike or anything like that to ride trails? I do not have the title to the bike, all I have is a bill of sale. I tried calling the dmv but there where absolutely no help. I don't know if there is a permit I need to get for trail riding or if I have to go to the dmv to get something in order for me to ride trails? Also if Anybody knows any good trails to ride in Virgina any info would be greatly appreciated. thank you very much and any info would be absolutely fantastic im not from this area so I really have no idea where to ride.

I live in northwest Virginia (Charlottesville area) about an hour south of DC, I am not aware of any tracks in the area that are either public (or private but allow people to ride with permission). Does anyone know of any good tracks in my area? - Airborne

Hi everyone, I just moved from Syracuse, NY to Winchester, VA this week. I have been spoiled in NY for years with 10 tracks within 1-1/2 hour drive. I haven't been able to find much down here so far. I know that there is Tomahawk near here, but I haven't found too many other tracks and I don't know anybody to ride with in this area. Anyone else from around here that rides tracks? I see a ton of trail riding, but that has never really been my thing. If anyone knows of any tracks, or wants to meet up at Tomahawk, hit me up.

While my local race organization heads to the PA rocks for the rest of the season, I am thinking about doing a VCHSS hare scramble, in particular Reddy Hole. Can anyone tell me what the terrain is like? I am from South Jersey (all sand and dirt, no rocks). Videos look like nice packed dirt, but so hard to tell with Youtube.

Just moved to the outside of Charlottesville VA. Have seen a couple trails online, all around 1-2 hours away. I don't mind traveling but would like to know if there is anything closer. I don't know anyone in the area either so if you're wanting to ride let me know, I try to get out and ride every weekend. I ride a 2019 TX300 and I would say I'm a slow C class rider. Hi everyone. I have a 2008 400 SM and really like it--my first thumper in many years. It came to me with a Yosh muffler and a Uni air filter (which I cleaned & oiled w factory fluids). It has the stock Mikuni 36. It looks like it's been regularly maintained over the years, and I've done some stuff to it... Turkey baster mod Shorai battery + free power mod Engine oil rebreather box deleted (hoses capped/rerouted appropriately) 3 x 3 JD jetting kit It's that last part I have some questions about, and I'm hoping to connect with someone near Falls Church who knows these bikes well. I think I like the way it runs, but I'm not sure I have the jetting correct, mostly because I don't know what's 'normal' for these bikes. What should I expect in terms of power curve and delivery? Currently I'm at 160 main, 25 pilot, clip at 4th groove from top, fuel screw at 2.5 turns out. It took me a few tries to get here, too. I'm taking it out west for a month in a little while and will be riding from just above sea level up to around 7,000 ft. I'd really appreciate the chance to go over it with someone who's got more experience with the platform...I can come to you...and I'm expecting to compensate you for your time... Thanks! - Mike

I am not sure about how sizing works when its comes to dirt bikes, I talked to a guy and he said you should put 17s on the front and rear with a lower with a bigger sprocket. I'm hoping someone may have a better idea or suggestion on what to do because I would prefer to buy a new set of rims with wheels but not sure which to buy that are affordable. Titling/Insuring - So I will need to title the bike since I didn't when I bought it and insuring will be 1 phone call. I rode (or really tried to ride) the Peter's Mill Run main trail #433 that is shown on the maps as "easier". I consider myself an average rider, but not at all a racer. Four years ago, I rode the main #433 and remember it as an easy, fairly flat trails mostly of dirt/clay with only a few more challenging rocky/steep sections. Today, it quickly became a steep and very rocky trail that was over the limits of my skills. I turned around and went back and loaded my bike on the trailer. Beaten. My riding buddies continued and said that they never saw any easy trail, and thought they were on #457 They rode more on the tasker's gap side and got completely lost even though they had the paper maps handed out with the permit and had a GPS with topo-level detail. They said it was impossible to follow the trails on the maps, and the trails that they rode, were wicked difficult. Both of the guys are very good riders who regularly ride FRO (Famous Reading Outdoors) in Pennsylvania. FRO is famous for having a lot of rocks. I live near charlottesville Virginia and am looking for trail ride places not too far away. Less than an hour and a half away preferably. I have ridden at north garden and it’s nice but I want more singletrack loamy stuff if any is available.

So I'm very new to dirt biking. Actually, I don't even have a bike yet. I've wanted to ride ever since I watched 'motocrossed' when I was like seven. I'm 23 and now in a place in life I have the opportunity to pursue it and I'm not sure where to start. I'd love to find a group of dirt bikers to join up with in my area. Teach me the ropes. Beyond that I'm trying to figure out where to start with research. I have a vague idea of what I need (bike (duh), trail to ride on (unsure of any near me), safety gear, way to transport bike ect) but its quite the leap and I want all of my ducks in a row before I just jump in and spend thousands.

Just recently moved to Centreville Virginia (25 miles west of D.C.) and I'm looking for some places to ride, preferably some trails. If anyone knows of some places in Northern Virginia, Western Maryland, North Eastern West Virginia, South Western Pennsylvania, I'd appreciate some input. I've ridden Taskers Gap and Moto Cove but I'm looking for something new. Hatfield McCoy is a little too far, and MX tracks aren't my forte. Thanks! -DTEW

I live in Maryland so for the most part I’m trailering 2-3 hours on average to ride. MD is horrible if you ride anything motorized. In the last 12 years nearly every area has been closed or governed so much its not worth to ride. The state recently purchased and closed a 2000 acre private riding location in Garrett County. The state will ruin that place in the end - after of course they do their 2-5 year study. (sorry for the rant)..... I took my kids to AOAA last week and that place kicked our butt - way too many rocks for a family ride. FYI if you ever go to AOAA make sure you take a GPS or iPhone with a mapping application. I thought their trail markings were horrible other than the “pink and black take me home” signs. For our next ride I’m looking at Peters Mill and Taskers Gap. Looking at the map and YouTube there seems to be a few decent trails that are rated “easy”. I downloaded the brochure and map for the area. Does anyone have any advice on what trail numbers we should ride (maybe a decent multi-mile loop) and what trails to avoid. I have a YZ250FX, my son rides a KLX140L and my daughter rides a TRX250x. We are not out to do anything technical - we just want to ride and not work too hard. It took us all 3 days to recover from AOAA..... Any insight on other “family” riding areas in the VA/PA region is greatly appreciated. RP
