  1. Hello, I have an xr250R and need to replace to front braking system in its entirety. Im UK based and im finding it hard to get hold of what I need. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?
  2. What is the seat height on a 1985 xr250r?
  3. So I went on a 3 hour trek last week to look at this bike and it ran great, looked decent, and had a few minor issues to fix, so I bought it for $1500. I changed the oil, adjusted the chain and tire pressure, checked suspension and brakes. Before the first ride I realized I didn't look at the air filter. What I discovered was shocking. I can't believe it runs at all if any of this filter ended up in the carb. I did replace it of course with an uni filter. Bike is missing the heat shield (the guy said it fell off and wouldn't stay on, which is odd), the frame support bolt that goes into the center of the exhaust, the bars seem to be bent slightly and the tires need to be replaced. My 1995 200R is a lot more comfortable to ride, but I expected the suspension to be a lot better on the 250, but the first ride was pretty rough. I had a bad spill on some rocks and laid it over and fell off down a bank. Got a couple new battle wounds. The whole bike felt pretty squirrely at times, hopefully it's just the bad tires. I'm wondering about the front disc brake guard also, does this year have one stock? My buddy has a 1991 250R with a complete disc guard that goes up the forks about a foot, but I don't see one on the 1997 in the diagrams. The brakes were also extremely sensitive. I'm used to my 200R drum brakes having a lot more forgiveness. I had to be extra careful not to hit the fronts too hard on corners. Anyway from the looks of that air filter I'm wondering how much better this thing might run with a carb rebuild and rejetting.
  4. My lanky 14 year old boy started showing an interest in riding MX/Off-Road so I sourced the best beginner friendly, yet dirt worthy, bike I could find: an Ol' Honda XR250R (2004). So far I've replaced a few clutch levers and perches with stock parts. That's gotten old and I'm looking to upgrade to an ASV or Torc1 type fold-able clutch/perch brake combo. Went to purchase online today and to my surprise there were no such parts listed for the XRs. I saw plenty of CRF/CRF-X choices and they seem to differ depending on generation. Obviously I can use nearly any perch/clutch combo as long as the two match; but I was wondering if anyone knew which of these levers was closest to stock? Also, will the first gen CRF250X brake lever work on the XR? These may be stupid questions to some; but I'd rather ask a dumb question than drop money on an ASV brake lever I can't use. Thanks for any help. #xr250r#hondaxr
  5. Hello folks A real newbie here, I am 70 years old and disabled thanks to a blood clot in my noggin, cant ride but can still tinker, my project is a 1993 xr250r that runs pretty good after much maintenance work, the old white tank is really bad and I want to replace it, have located a red tank from a xr350r and it looks like a simple swap so I thought I would ask here if anyone knows for sure. Trying to make the bike into a good rider as it will never be a show piece. This is a great site and I have enjoyed it greatly, thanks in advance. Rick
  6. Hello!! this is my first post! any help would be great!! Ok, I have a 1996 xr250l that about 2 1/2 years ago my father purchased for me! the previous owner apparently was a shorter rider so they cut out the seat foam, and well I'm the opposite of short! (I'm about 6' 1" or 6' 2" for reference) So a while back my father and I bought some "hight density foam" and a cheap seat cover to cut and fill in the area they cut out, well the foam is WAY too soft and sinks down to about the same level as it was before! (not to mention that being a quite tall rider, the bike is very cramped and uncomfortable) I would love a Seat Concepts comfort seat but they don't make it for the XR250L!! (not even the 1995 xr250r which has the same seat) So I heard of a company called Guts Racing and they make seat foam for the XR and the ability to add extra foam to make the seat higher! BUT you have to have a special seat cover to do that! Now they do have special seat covers to go with them, but unfortunately (at least in my case) they are only gripper seat covers! I intend to use this bike to commute to work (l live in the "country" in upstate NY) and do a bunch of off-road and on-road riding hopefully. So I've heard that gripper seat covers are not good at all for on road use, is this right? I want to be able to go "long distances" without having to stop because of my bumm hurting! What shall I do?!? Thanks! p.s here's some photo's of my bike!
  7. Hey everyone, New member and totally new rider in general here. I bought my first bike a month ago, a 1986 XR250R. The previous owner says that he had just rebuilt the top end, and to my knowledge he was telling the truth. The carb is very clean and set to spec, it starts in a kick or two, cold or hot. My problem began today. I had been riding out in the woods on easy slow terrain for the first few weeks on my bike, but today took it out on a road to get home quicker. I rode for a few miles at 50-55 mph, which is the fastest I'd taken the bike so far. When I entered a town I pulled in my clutch to shift down, accidentally still had the throttle engaged a bit so it revved loud and then shut off completely. I rolled the bike to a stop nearby and could not get it to start again. Tried to let it cool off, kicked through with decompression pulled and fuel off just in case. Couldn't get it to start. Had to get hauled home, which sucked. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be going on? I'm at a loss and pretty bummed. Just want to ride the bike. Thanks!
  8. Honda XR250R I ordered a new Ricky stator (150 volt) to run my tusk light kit off. I installed it and it seems to me there is only one way it goes in so I'm pretty sure I did it correctly. I also got a new reg/rec to switch to D.C. I have the tusk kit, battery and USB charger all wired into the main supply out of the reg/rec. The original head and tail light I have running directly out of the reg/rec. Everything seemed to be working (turn signals, USB charger, headlight but it seemed a but dull). I took it for a spin and the headlight would dim all the way off when I accelerated. I thought it was I wiring problem but after testing all the wires it looks to be a problem with the stator. I'm getting 8 watts straight out of it then 0 while accelerating. Anyone have a similar problem or know what's happening to the power?

  10. Hey Guys. I have a Honda XR 250r 1999 that i have just rebuilt. I got the piston and barrel done in a shop along with the valves. The bike is running well but has a issue with burning oil. The decompression valve on the engine was jammed but we managed to free it up but the bike has lacked compression since it was freed. I have no issue starting the bike but would a broken/stuck decompression valve be a reason behind the burning of the oil and lack of compression? I started with a synthetic oil but was advised to use a mineral so did a oil change and now have 20w-50 mineral in the bike but have seen no change.
  11. I'm very new to this forum. I recently bought a 1987 XR250R. The bike is absolutely beautiful- maybe 25hrs total on machine (likely less...). It is not perfect however, there is a blem in the top of the seat. The blem is a small "L" shaped cut that is less that size of a quarter. I have been looking for a new seat cover. I would like an OEM Honda cover that is exactly like original (blue with XR250R stamped in white on sides as it came from factory). Probably no surprise to many, I'm having an impossible time finding one. I can find many that will work that are aftermarket (ie. Moose Racing, etc...), but can't find a new OEM one anywhere. I do realize the bike is a 1987 and that OEM for this machine is going to be harder to find given that it's now 2017. I have looked at used seats but the ones I have found are not nice enough to put on the bike. Does anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? Note: The blem is likely from the corner of something sharp (ie. piece of metal- maybe small toolbox corner that was sat on top of seat or something of that nature). The seams are all approximated. Seat foam underneath is perfect. Previous owner has put a bit of glue down underneath to hold seams together in an attempt to prevent further tearing / damage. However, since the bike was only one of many in his collection, he did not feel urgent need to fix it. I'd like to get it rectified before riding season resumes here in the North Country of Northern NY. Here's a pic of my bike. If you see how nice it is, you'll likely understand why I'd want to get seat back to 100%. Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions.
  12. Hi guys got a 1987 xr250r here and was just going over it after it had been rebuilt and noticed the timing cam was out a little bit so took it off and fixed it up, now i cant seem to get the tensioner back down with the cam and spocket done up. i can get it in while the chain and sprocket is undone from the cam but then it a little bit low for the bolt to go into the cam side of the screw bit.. it is a brand new chain and just wondering what ive done wrong , thanks in advance guys 🙂 the top pic is the one before i touched it... there must be a way it goes in... i can get it almost all the way in with cam done up but the last bit wont go down, looks like there might be too much tenstion? many thanks

  15. At 45, I got a dirt bike, as well as my 13 year old son. We are just getting into it and I am absolutely obsessed with riding. I’ve wanted a dirt bike since I was a kid, and now I feel like I am a kid again. We live just outside Yellowstone Park, have 100’s of miles of trail right out our back door and we are exploring it daily. I have been soaking up as much info as I can, I work on the bikes daily, as I want them in the best working order possible. I have been so wrapped up in owning a business and operating under stress that I forgot what it was like to even have fun or enjoyment. Now, all I want to do is hop on and go. There’s so much freedom when you’re out there. I’ve found fossil beds and old wreckage of things that have a ton of history, and I’m wondering if we might find the next wooly mammoth as there was one found here a couple years back. When you get out there to the places you’ve never seen and look around you, you can almost see the way millions of years shaped the land. This thing is just what I needed in life. A guy goes through all sorts of things and we begin to get beat down by life. I found myself in a hamster wheel I couldn’t seem to escape. Well, I found the exit and it’s on that bike. I’m going to keep posting here, I also have a podcast called The Mic’d Files that’s on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Anchor.fm, etc. I have an in home studio with all the lighting and cameras and sound gear, but need to get a GoPro and a drone to film our rides. Might have to wait though as I dumped most everything into everything else, but we will get there. If anybody who may read this ever finds themselves in Cody, WY get in touch and I’ll show you the terrain. Get out there! I’m fueling up right now!
