  1. Was lucky enough to find this guy in a basement! I got it running on the original carb, a mikuni but couldn’t get the high jets and float correct. $30 eBay carb and it’s sooo fun to putt around on..... 6 gears! Gone through brakes (what little there is) and new sprockets/ chain. Also mixing my gas at 40:1, deleted the oil injection. What’s everyone think?
  2. OK here goes... Picked up an 04 200 EXC few months back, needed some work to say the least, wont go into detail of all the things i've fixed on the bike just the current and most present issue I cant seem to fix... it is smoking IE blue smoke/lots of splooge to the point that at the end of a few hour's ride, it's out the tail pipe, running down the back and dripping onto the swing arm/rear break caliper and blue smoking quite a bit. When I first got it, it smoked more and smelled like shit. So first things first went to the carb, I live on the Oregon coast (elevation/temp reference) it's old dirty/stained but inside looks good, came with jetting pilot-45, main-178 needle: no idea what brand guessing stock in the 3rd clip, adjusted the float height due to it leaking gas when bike was upright no tilt with the gas on, Bought JD jet kit and running pilot-45, Main-185 and Needle is blue 3rd clip (JD's recommend specs for my bike @ my attitude). I have also replaced my Inner crankcase seal twice (First time I thought I messed up the O-ring so redid to make sure). I've rebuilt the top end/new piston (same thing) cleaned the PV, NOTE HERE that the PV has some issues, it seems to work fine but the screw that goes on top of the cylinder, down into the PV/flap would not come out preventing me from removing the flap to clean it, however it move's/ function's correctly, and has minimum clearance on both sides. One of the PV cover bolts that also works at the exhaust spring holder, was over torqued at some point (impact driver prob), or a result in a hard impact, the hole the bolt goes into is flailed/jared open a bit, not bad, not in the way of any function/ PV Gearing/hinge, it is not needed for that area to be air tight as their is also a breather that goes out of the PV so will not result in an "air leak" or loss in Top end PSI.... anyway... it's still smoking.... quite a bit.. now the bike itself rides fine I feel, the carb does puke gas when tilted over slightly/ hard to start (kick start) after flooded (like all bikes tho) I don't have any stalling/low idle issues outside of user error on clutch control. Honestly outside of it smoking as much as it does I would think nothing is wrong with it.. I have also tried raising the needle Clip to 2nd clip and it changed nothing at all, not even feel of the bike/response and have a new Spark plug I have yet to put on the bike. I have also "compromised" the crankcase Gasket (new one in the mail) while I was putting the Crankcase back on but that should do nothing with the exhaust just a little gear oil leak not relevant but throwing it out there. So I am at a loss... I've been toying with the idea of getting a Lectron carb... However... would hate to drop $400~$500 and the issue still persist, if it's a jetting/carb/float issue that would fix it and improve MPH/fuel consumption Or something with the PV? but I don't see the PV causing that much smoke/sploogee... I've ridden the bike normally/hard and nothing's happened but I don't want to keep pushing it and possibly clip the bike. Any ideas? "Oh help me 2 stroke community you're my only hope"
  3. Hi everybody, anyone sells the Kawasaki kx fi calibration kit? software cd + connection harness. Thanks ✌️
  4. Hey all, im shopping for my first two stroke. I’m a woods rider and I’ve found what looks like a great deal on an 250 sx. Changes in bike thus far are lower gearing on chain and softer spring on shock, bark busters and handlebar risers. I will certainly need an xc gas tank and probably work on forks. Anything else I can/should do to make this single track worthy?
  5. Hello, I did a compression test on my 2001 YZ250 and I had 192 psi. Yet, it does not run. I got it as a project and I cleaned the carb. So it has gas, compression, and spark, yet the most it did was fire for a few revolutions and quit. I read on another forum that the crankcase might be filled with gas and that would be causing it to quit, is that true? I know gas os getting into the cylinder, the spark plug was wet. What premix should I be using? I'm using 30/1 right now during the time I was trying to get it to start. I know that is really rich but it should still run though right? I have never worked on a YZ250 before so any tips/tricks will be nice. Thanks
  6. Hi all, I have a question that i haven't found some clear cut info about. Id just like to hear it from the community.... my mate and i are honda CRF boys , and sadly when we were recently on an out ride in the South African landscape, his engine came to a halt & seizure! what a day it was getting the bloody thing back to the car! Anyway we are young adults at uni who dont really have a lot of mony spare! we managed to find a way to rapidly replace the bike and to save money. We found a running 2004 yama yz250 2t and the guy traded us a seized 2005 crf250 for this- he specialized in chop shopping Honda and obviously saw value in this trade. it obviously came with its quirks.... this yz250 has: -1998 yz 250 motor -CDI from an 80cc yz When we first took the bike to the track it would not start. I noticed the following: -small holes in the expansion chamber (a few, none bigger than the tip on an Aux jack)- what is the impact of these small holes on the bike? ( i will use fire-gum to fix) -muffler does not tightly fit to the end of expansion chamber. FYI, fuel mix was 50:1- recommended by the oil we used- i have been told that old Yamaha are better with more oil? 25:1? So leading up to my question: when we eventually got the bike started (Bump start) it really ran lumpy, and bogged when the accelerator was pulled and eventually died. when i get the chance to look at the bike, what is the impact of holes in an expansion chamber?- could this be a reason for starting and power issue and bogging under acceleration?? Could this be because of a CDI from an 80cc? Could this be Fuel Mix? Spark Plug? apart from those questions, i am going to change the spark plug anyway- i can assume that maybe this could be due to a faulty plug?- maybe?? anyway, this is what i know. perhaps you guys would be able to add to my theories or tell me something more that i could investigate? thanks, Luke
  7. I have a Voss helmet and really like it I was wondering if anyone else has experience with their products and what they think.
  8. I‘am lithuanian adventure rider Karolis Mieliauskas, I spent seven days riding on frozen Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake by volume and the deepest in the world. It was a solo travel, I had no support truck behind me, no people waiting for my emergency call, no satellite phone and no experience in riding on ice, not even a tent. It was me, my motorcycle, water, hot tea, snacks, extra fuel, basic tools and some clothes. At the first day of my journey I faced a lot of difficulties at once. The visibilty was extremely low, the snow cover was very thick and a snow storm was raging. In the snow storm I lost all signs of track. I tried not to stop, as restarting became very difficult due to the deep snow (the amount of snow was so large, it sometimes nearly reached my knees). I was approaching the outfall of Angara (330 rivers inflow to Baikal, while Angara is the only outflowing river), which was waiting for me, such a huge body of unfrozen water in front. Suddenly, I noticed a human trace and saw two silhouettes in the distance. Approaching them, they were on foot with backpacks, moving slowly and looking at me. I stopped, started to speak, and guess what: they were Lithuanians, just like me. The World has become very small. During the entire journey I had to cope with extreme cold - sometimes it reached -30̊C - as well as ice cracks – passing/jumping/over them was the biggest challenge. It required a lot of physical energy. Other thing is constantly changing ice and snow condition. In the evening you think you know ice already and may imagine tomorrows ride. But once you start in the morning, you see that ice is different again. It's like this every single day. Snow became harder, ice rougher and vice versa. Regardless of all the strugles I had to survive. I will not stop. I will continue my adventure with my loyal friend - motorcycle. Next stop - Oymyakon, the coldest inhabited place in the world. Follow my next adventure on facebook https://www.facebook.com/thecoldestride/ Cheers!
  9. I bought a 2007 yz85 with a locked up connecting rod bearing and i bought an engine with a new crankshaft because i didnt wanna open up the engine but ive had to transfer all the engine accessories to the new engine but when i put the clutch on I was sure I did it right and have all the parts in there but when I put the pressure plate on Its hard to push down and stays up like its not aligned correctly but i know it is because it goes down when i screw the clutch bolts in but theres about 1/8in of space where the clutch plates can move if I push on them so thats making it slip(this is still happening with the cable disconnected). I figured the rebuilt engine already had the ball bearing in the clutch so i didnt need the one from the old engine so I took it out but now the rod that pushes the pressure plate is about 1/4in from touching the pressure plate and barely touches it when I pull the clutch lever.
  10. I own a 2008 Yz450f and the bike only leaks fuel out of the overflow at the bottom of the carb when the bike is running. I have worked on a lot of bikes and done my fair share of carb work and I can't seem to figure this one out. When the bike sits with the fuel on it never leaks and when I take the bowl off and push the float up and turn the fuel on the needle keeps the fuel back so the needle isn't the problem and the float is not too high or it wold leak when the big is shut off. It didn't leak before and I took the carb apart to do some jet work and it has leaked ever sense.
  11. If I buy another 2001 YZ125, and make it black and purple for about $2,300, how much do you think it would sell for?
  12. Hey guys, thought i'd share this video i found the other day of this fast rider on a 450. Sounds like he's having the time of his life lol. Check out 2:25 - Insane!!!
  13. Picked up a 05 yz125 recently and I have noticed it accelerates quite hard but maxes out quickly. It has 13/50 gearing and I was wondering how much of a difference going to either a 13/48 or 14/50 would make, could go possibly taller gearing. Cheers
  14. I have a 2002 yz85 and when you start it up, it will idle really low then once you rev it up a little, it will start to idle normally but then after a couple seconds it just drops back down to a really low idle like its about to stall out. What could be causing this? After doing some research it sounds like it might be a crank seal leak, but i really hope not. Could it be anything else causing this? And if it is a crank seal leak, would it require splitting cases to replace? I also just cleaned out the carb and put fresh 32:1 in it.
  15. I just recently went with a friend to purchase an '01 YZ125. The bike had just had an engine rebuild and a clutch replacement. I'm new to two stokes, and this is the first one I have ever ridden/worked on, so this is all new to me. When we were in the process of test riding the bike, I noticed that every time we fired it up, pulled the clutch in, and shifted into first gear, the bike would stall. The (previous) owner had said that the bike probably wasn't warmed up yet, and "sometimes" did that when it was cold. I had to give it about quarter throttle when I shifted into first gear to get moving. I also noticed the clutch was pretty stiff, but that could be due to new springs? The bike shifted through all the gears fine, and the clutch seemed to work when I shifted back into first and came to a stop (bike didn't stall). Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm going to disassemble the clutch and check it out. We just got the bike, so I haven't done much testing/diagnosis yet. All I know is that my four stroke never stalls when put into first, even if it's not warmed up at all.
  16. Hi all. The other day while I was riding I blew a head gasket in my yz125. Decided to have a look at my piston while I had the top end apart to replace the gasket and found pretty deep scoring on the piston, as well as corresponding scoring on the cylinder and a chip in the nikasil. This happened 20 hours after I put a brand new oem cylinder and vertex piston in the bike. I have a new cylinder and piston on the way but I’ve just got a couple questions to help prevent this in the future. 1. Could this damage have been caused by the blown head gasket? If not what could have caused it? I always make sure my filter is clean, but could something have got into the intake to cause the damage? I was riding in sand when I blew the head gasket. 2. Other than the scoring, does the piston look to be in good shape after 20 hours? It almost looks like it is in too good of shape for the amount of time I was running it for as there is barely any wear apart from the scoring and there is no carbon buildup. Does this mean it is running lean? This is going to be the second time I’ve had to replace the top end due to damage the the cylinder, so I really want to avoid it happening again. Also I run 32:1 with fully synthetic oil. let me know if you need anymore information or pictures. thanks, Cameron
  17. My family is thinking of taking a trip to the Knoxville/pigeon forge/Gatlinburg area this coming easter. I just got a new to be yz250x and i am thinking about bringing it for the trip but i can't seem to find anywhere that has a legal place to ride and bring your own machine. i see tons of places to rent a UTV and go on guided tours in the area. but i am looking for somewhere i can pay and ride the trails or track in that area for the day. i also have a 4x4 atv that i would consider bringing if there is a good place that my wife and son can come along too. Since its a family trip i'd like to keep it as "legal" as possible and just go somewhere that i can pay for a pass and be safe. does anyone know of any place in the area that may offer that type of experience?
  18. I took apart my yz 250 from 2002 to make a whole engine rebuild , and my 5th gear was slipping, after i took it apart my shift forks is pretty much worn, and i cant find it anywhere by it product number on it , the 5BE7 C10 is the worn one, can u guys give me a link with that part to buy? i found on ebay a listing with a yzf gearbox and it pretty much looks the same, is it compatible?
  19. Hello, I am looking for a used 125cc dirt bike. I am puzzeled because I do not know what I want, what would you guys recommend and why would you recommend it. Also where could I get performance mods, specifically suspension and which of the bikes have the most tuning capabilities. I've narrowed my choices down to Kawasaki kx,Honda cbr/xr, Yamaha yz, and Suzuki rm around the 2000-2005 range. I'd rather hear from people who owned one of the bikes but advice from any of the experts is welcome P.S I'm sorry for any mistakes like the wrong "sub forum" or grammar as I'm on mobile
  20. So I got a new to me 2007 rm85. I took it to the shop to have the fork seals done and they tell me the forks are destroyed inside. So I had to order a new set on eBay. The set I got on eBay turn out to be for a kx85 and the bottom triple tree has a gap of about .25mm. So my question is, what should I do? Do I buy a kx triple tree? Do I buy ANOTHER set of rm85 forks off eBay? Or is there something I can do to jimmy rig it. i traded a perfectly good running dirt bike for this hunk of turd and now I’m already $500 deep in new spokes, truing the front wheel, wheel bearings, fork seals, forks and, labor. So a budget minded idea would be nice but anything is useful because I feel totally boned.
  21. Hi, I am doing the top end on my ‘19 Yz125x. The cylinder has the letter C at the back so do I put a C piston in it? I just ordered 2 C size pistons for the next two top ends. Will it be fine? Thanks!
  22. Hey guys, I just sold what was my first bike ever (YZ250f). Was getting higher on the hour meter and was worried about putting on more seat time. needless to say it was kind of pig in the tight single track and slow moving trails. It seems like the majority of you enduro guys use 2 stroke ktms (xc,xcw). Im looking at either buy a YZ250X or a KTM 250XC TPI. Ive always been a yamaha fan and id like to stick with them just for reliability and cost. Other than TPI,brakes and the hydraulic clutch is there any other advantage to buying a KTM? here in canada a brand new KTM is close to 12k in my area. Im highly considering the yamaha over it as ive seen 19 models for 8 grand. Let me know what you guys think. Appreciate any replies. Still a fairly new rider so please keep that in mind. im not even use a big bore 2 stroke is the right call..
  23. So I am in the market for a yz85 dirt bike. I am looking to buy a used one and I don’t know what to look for or to stay away from with these bikes. I am completely new to two strokes so I don’t know how to tell if it is running well or any signs of damage on the bike. Any info or tips on the buying process would be appreciated. 👍
  24. Hello all, My TTR125 has had a leaky carb ever since I bought the bike. It’s not just a drip, it’s a constant flow even after the bike is turned off. I have adjusted the float level numerous times at different settings and nothing does the trick! Could it be that adjusting the float isn’t enough, and I have to actually replace parts? Could I need a new float needle? Or which other parts should I try replacing first?
  25. Hi all, I have an old Yamaha yfm200 moto 4 that I can’t seem to locate the VIN on to find out the year. Has anyone got any idea how I can find the year if I can find the VIN or where the VIN may be hidden?? cheers brenden
