    YZ250X suspension

Hi All, Just got new springs for my YZ250X to fit my 200 lb weight. With gear im right at 105mm of race sag. Took it on some enduro trails the other day, mix of rocky, rutty, rooty, and earthy double track in New Hampshire. Overall the suspension feels good, but still feels really harsh over roots. Current settings 320cc of Pro Honda SS7 5w Fork - Spring 0.46 kg 15 out rebound 15 out comp Shock - Spring 5.6kg 14 out rebound Low Speed 11 out High speed 1 3/4 turns out I emailed FC and talked to someone and he said go 22 out on compression on the forks..............but they max at 20? He also said to go 2.5 turns on the HS comp........but it maxes at 2?????? Am I talking to the wrong guy? thanks in advance for the help
  3. **I know there is already 5,000 posts on this and I am sorry, I just couldn't find what I was looking for** I am looking to but a restyled plastics kit for my 05 yz250, and getting a graphics kit from DeCal works put on it. I know there are 5+ types of restyle kit brands, and decal works said to get the polisport, and then select the '06 yz when I am getting graphics for it. my main question is, is my only option to get a restyle kit that makes it look like a '15? or is the '15 look the same as say a '18 look. and can someone just help me confirm that the current plastics I have on are stock/non restyle thanks in advanced, I know this subject gets beat into the ground.
  4. 2003 YZ250 ridden at Glamis in sand with paddle tire. burrned up piston going up Oldsmobile hill. I run 40:1 mix. Pilot jet is 50, main jet is 182. Am I still too lean?

  6. Let's race! Post your loop times, trail head to trail head or loop to loop. It's honor system, but feel free to post video or tracking screen shots. Here are the categories. Even if you don't want to compete, still useful for folks to see this info. So please post what you got. We have a fantastic resource at Wambaw, so it's important to have an active community that we can mobilize if we need to. WHICH LOOP: South Loop, North Loop, 5 Mile South Loop, 15 Mile South Loop, etc. NET TIME: BIKE: TRACKING SOFTWARE: How did you track your time and speed? Recommendations for good software. Tips for analyzing, etc. AVERAGE AND MAX SPEED: You may have to do a little math to get correct average if you start your tracking software before leaving the parking lot or don't turn if off when you return. Just use distance divided by time and you'll have the correct average. AVERAGE AND MAX HR: TRAIL CONDITIONS: WEATHER: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'll start us off. WHICH LOOP: South Loop (trail head to trail head) NET TIME: 48 Minutes (fast for me) BIKE: 2005 YZ250 TRACKING SOFTWARE: Used Wahoo Fitness app then exported as "FIT" file to my PC. Opened it with RideViewer, a great free visualizer for those who don't own one. Didn't have my heart rate monitor or there would be a lot more info on there. I usually average HR of about 150 and max out a few times at 180 (probably restarting the bike after a get off). Amazing how taxing picking up and starting a bike can be if you already cranking out energy on a nice run. AVERAGE/MAX SPEED: 23.57/55.3 mph AVERAGE/MAX HR: 150/180 TRAIL CONDITIONS: Smooth except for power lines, which are whooped. Trail just groomed about a week ago. Sandy and dry. WEATHER: 80 degrees, dry and clear, beautiful spring day. A few people on bikes and quads (on a Friday) Short 3-minute video. Pilot circuit is slightly rich, but bike running great.

    Clutch problems

Hey guys, jut did a bottom end on my 04 yz 250, and the clutch won't engage. What I mean by this is it will start in neutral, and once I drop it into first (with the ever pulled) it stalls out. When I depress my clutch lever the actuator is fully engaged, so I don't see that being the issue, I've read that sometimes after you take out or put in clutch plates they stick because oil hasn't flowed through the plates all the way yet. I'm at a loss, any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance
  8. Hi all, first time posting. Have read many, many posts. Im buying a used bike and have maximum $3500 to spend. What should I get? Last bike I owned was a 96 rm250. Bought bikes for my kids beginning of last season now looking for mine. I'm 40yrs old I used to race motocross (novice) but have been out of the scene for 15 years. Plan on riding with the kids and occasionally hitting a track. Torn between 2 stroke & 4 stroke & year & mfr. thanks in advance for opinions.

Yz250 Build , need help on wheels

CANT FIND A STRAIGHT ANSWER ON FORUMS , NEED HELP NOT SMART ASS COMMENTS Background - cool weather has me motivated on doing a ground up restoration on my 97 yz250 , last year I fully restored my first bike that got me into the sport a "1993 yz125 " . Just like my my build last year It seams Im stuck with the bastard children of Yamaha , parts are hard to find and seems to be little or no aftermarket parts. I have already spent well over $1,000 on this yz250 in plastics , custom graphics , asv levers , custom gas tank , exhaust and other crap so the most cost effective way would be best lol. I'm wanting to change the look of the bike with black wheels , rims are 160-220 each depending on brand . spokes are 60+ each set and labor is about $200 locally to lace and true . I have searched high and low on forums and google haven't found a single aftermarket set that fits a 1997 everything is 99+ Question - I have found a newer set of wheels https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1071/42645/Tusk-Impact-Complete-Front-Rear-Wheel-Kit what do I need to make these work on a 1997 ? I know my hubs are 20mm and 99+ have 22mm. if you could help with part numbers or links on what I need. Here is what I'm going for ( top pic ) the one below are my progress , frame goes to power coating tomorrow
  10. my yz250 will idle good and through 3/4 throttle runs alright, not very responsive though. once i get to 3/4 throttle it will start poppin real bad and wont rev any higher. im thinking the main jet is too big, main jet is 340 and pilot is 40. im very new to 2 jokers (my first 2 stroke). it has the mikuni TMX btw. i have checked the reeds and they look great.
  11. Sitting here on a flight jazzed about my new YZ250X and to satisfy my desire to get riding on it soon, I'm reading the owner's manual (same as with the YZ250 also), only to discover, wow, they recommend some serious break-in procedures. It is making me nervous I should have bought the FX if this level of maintenance / inspection is required. I suspect it is not, hence this post seeking real-world experience from others. Worth noting: I have no intentions of "racing" ... just fun riding trails and amateur MX tracks with my two sons. Per the attached images from the manual, here is what really stood out for me and which I question: First, though not as unreasonable, is the running, stopping, cooling, checking the spark plug, and repeating that for increasingly higher engine output (though it doesn't say what to do if if results are not as should be). Does anyone recommend following that procedure? Or just go ride the dang thing? (not sure my boys would survive waiting for me to perform this procedure LOL) Second, and seemingly far more involved, is pulling the head to check the piston and using wet sand paper to remove any carbon deposit. Should I really do this? And if so, does pulling the head require changing the cooling fluids? (not sure if the cooling fluids circulate inside the head or not)...or replacing any gaskets? Thirdly, the scheduled maintenance suggests inspecting the piston every 2.5 hours. Granted, that's under racing conditions, but even still, my plan was to check it closer to never, other than perhaps an end of season inspection or something. I had RM and KX bikes as a kid and did none of these things. Maybe I was naive. I could go on and on about some of the other inspection suggestions they list, but I suspect opinions on these will inform the others. Thanks!
  12. Hi, I'm thinking about picking up a Lectron carb for a 06 YZ250 2 stroke. I'm seeing somewhat mixed reviews. Some are saying it's better then sliced bread and others can't seem to get it to work. So... before I jump into it.. I want the real scoop from folks that have put on on and ride with it. 1. Is it better? Better throttle response? Crisper... an improvement? 2. Or did it not perform better? 3. Did you by a 36 or 38?? Honest real world performance opinions please!
  13. I'm reading up on these.. Anybody have one?Can you compare it to a Gnarly or a Fatty for a YZ250 or 250X?
  14. Well the iggornant 17 year old that I am decided to rip the carb off without checking the service manual first for proper removal of the TPS connections. instead of discounting the connector at the wire harness I unscrewed the torx head screw to remove the whole thing. When I put it back together I noticed I wasn't getting the normal amount of power. Kinda suspected I didn't get somthing right in the carb. So I took it back off again the same way I took it off and double-triple checked my work and still had the same issue. So after further research in the manual I noticed that it said removal of the TPS was a no no cause it would result in loss of power. Is there a proper way to reinstall the tps sensor? I've searched numerous times on the topic of install but could never find a direct awnser. Any help you could give me would be appreciated thank you! I can awnser any questions you may have
  15. I have never ridden 2t dirt-bike , i start my dirt bike adventure this year with a 4t yz450 and i love this sport. now am interested to test 2t cross and want to use it for enduro and MX. are this bikes ( yz250) good for both enduro and MX use !? i heard that yz250 is the same from 2006 up to 2016 and have no change . what about honda cr250r !? which year and model of this two brand worth owning !?
  16. Hey guys, I picked up a set of 06 YZ250F forks and they'll be here next week. I read other threads on it, but most are for the steelies. Can I simply use the same triples with no issue, or do I need 250F triples and steering stem? Also, is there anything different between the current AOSS fork lugs and the SSS ones or will everything mount right up? Thanks for reading!
  17. Hey guys, Im looking to buy a new Yamaha 2 stroke within the next couple weeks but i cant decide whether i would be happier with the 2018 yz 250 or the 2018 yz250x. Heres my riding background. Ive been riding for 15 years, I raced in the A class for 5 years until money got tight and i gave up racing all together. Since i then I realized how much fun single track riding is and just free riding with the buddies. I still occasionally ride tracks but about 80% of my riding is trails. I live in Michigan and if you have ever ridden in Michigan then you know the trails can get as rough as a motocross track. My local trails have sand whoops that i would compare to REDD-BUUUDDDS sand whoops. Ive never owned a "trail" bike ive always taken my race bikes and made them into "trail" bikes. My last bike being a Yz125. That being said i know all the mechanical and technical differences between the 2 bikes. Im a bit worried that the 250x just wont have the racey feel when im riding. Im also worried then when i do take it to the track the suspension will be a bit soft and the mellow hitting powerband will not allow me to seat bounce the big whoops. But now the standard yz250 might not have enough low end to help me skate through wet black slick dirt and the suspension might be a little to "non responsive" per say in studder bumps. Can you guys give me any sort of guidance. If you would like to check out my riding style on YouTube check out : "Yz125 2 stroke Shredding Michigan Enduro Trails." Thanks Guys
  18. So I'm currently 15 will be 16 in September and have been riding for about a year and a half now. Im 5'9 175 lbs and wanna upgrade from my 06 yz125 to a same year or newer yz250 2 stroke. Would this be a good idea. Also 2 strokes 4lyfe.

    TYGA YZ250 Jetting specs

Just rode with the new TYGA pipe, and was wondering where everyone else has been jetting it to? Head has been milled to tighten squish to .035, and the cc volume was set to 20cc. Timing was retarded to .12 BTDC 88 OCTANE non ethanol 40:1 Yamalube R pre-mix I was at 6500 ft, and 55 degrees. 168 main needle #3 on the JD red needle 45 pilot A.S = 1 1/4 I'm thinking of going to 170 main and leaning out the needle to #2. The TYGA seemed to load up in the mid range when sitting after cooling down? where the Dr. D didn't? Might be some scavenging issues going on? I tested the Dr. D pipe, and the Doma pipe, and the Dr. D and the TYGA are real close, but I will say the TYGA seemed to have a bit more on the bottom and mid. The DOMA pipe which I have ran for many years on many YZ250's.... well, just wasn't even in the same spectrum. Anyway, let me know what you guys are running. Thanks
  20. hey guys on my 98 yz250 when i gear down and its slowing down the engine isn't smooth its like its catching and releasing slighting so its like vroom vroom vroom not a clean smooth in gear slow down. im guessing thats not normal lol but i have no idea where to start or what to look at. rims arn't bent newer chain and sprocket on i have lenghened the gearing some so i can go faster haha. carb is all jetted decent and clean, reeds were good last time i looked about a year ago the compression was 180. anything will help ?
  21. Hey fellas, I am looking to build my son a kart for dirt oval racing in the 250 class. Its mostly 4 strokes right now but have just allowed 2 strokes to come back. I have heard the 2001 cr250 bottom end with 89 top end but am not to familiar with the 250 as back in the day we raced 125's and 500's. Also heard good things about the YZ's but not familiar there either..
  22. I am needing the crankshaft collar that goes on the primary drive of the crank. Yamaha has discontinued this part. 90387-2513A-00 COLLAR The previous owner put an 01 crank in my 2000 bike....not knowing I ordered the crank for a 2000 but am missing the parts to put it together. Crank is all installed already. Does anyone have this part kicking around!!!! THANKS!

    97 Yz 250 Transmission Upgrades?

So Im pretty sure I bent my first gear shift fork this past fall and I plan on splitting my cases to address that issue (for the second time). But while Im in there I was wondering if there was any combination of gears for a taller 5th gear from a different bike that I could throw in and give me higher top speed/lower engine rpm while running down the dirt roads in my area.. I know the easiest way to accomplish that is to just simply change my sprocket ratio but Ive always thought that my first gear was too tall to begin with and i have to ride my clutch far too much while climbing trails and such.. I guess id like to have the best of both world but dont know what to do to accomplish that.. Maybe theres a set of first gears that i can put in my tranny to drop it way down while also installing a taller ratio on final drive so i can accomplish both? IDK, hopefully someone out there has delt with this before! Thanks in advance!

    Plastic swap for a 91 yz250?

Hey guys I am new to the forum but tried to search for this subject and didn't find much for a bike this old. I bought the bike recently and have pretty much everything rebuilt but I am having trouble sourcing the proper plastics. First question is will 96 plastics fit this bike? There is plenty of those kits all over the internet. Currently the only thing I can find online that is actually for a 91 time range is white plastics only and can only be bought piece by piece. When they are pieced together like that is it almost 350 bucks for all white plastics which isn't what I want. So if you know of a thread that can show me how to put 96 or newer plastics on or if they bolt up on their own please let me know. Or if you have better ideas for what to do for plastics let me know! Thanks.
  25. Wondering if someone is able to tell what year this yz250 just from the pictures if not what letter I should be looking for in the VIN, I'm buying as a parts bike for my 2000 yz250( mostly for the wheels). I pretty sure that it has to be 98+ for the wheels to fit. Correct if I'm wrong or if I could make it work with out much effort. thanks, Ron https://jerseyshore.craigslist.org/mpo/6172492284.html
