    Drz400e fuel leak

    Hey guys, my buddy was messing around with my 2001drz400e and I guess he poked a hole in the bottom of my carb. I was having some fuel leak issues after installing the raptor petcock, with the thought to tighten what we believe was the fuel screw at the bottom of the carb ( was as loose as a tooth) a puncture happened to the bolt right next to it. Not too sure where or how to go about fixing this.
  3. Forgive me if this has been asked before, I did search. I was wondering if anyone has a template for the various plastic parts that can be covered with stickers. I have the ability to print custom stickers of any size, I would like to make custom graphics. I was wondering if anyone has blank Photoshop canvases of the right size and shape. Also if someone wants to create it, I'll give you a free set of whatever you design.

So this has been an abnoxious one, I bought this bike about 8 months ago and it has always run perfectly, about a month and a half ago I installed the IMS 4 gallon tank and tusk billet cap and it has continued to run perfectly until less than a week ago. Now it will start to starve for fuel every 5 min or so unless I loosen the cap to relieve tank pressure. It seems to do fine if I driving backroads at a sub 30mph pace, but if I get on the highway it quickly build pressure and cuts out. The tank has always built pressure when I was riding, and hissed viciously when i refueled but had no fuel delivery issues until less than a week ago, I could nearly drain the tank without opening it, and it would never cut out. Could the vacuum assisted petcock have possibly worn out? Is it normal for the tank to build pressure? I was under the impression that the fuel cap would relieve all pressure. So far I have checked the vacuum line over and over, taken apart the tusk fuel cap and blasted the parts with hot water, removed fuel filter, then installed it again when I noticed no difference. The bike noticeably regains power while I'm driving and I loosen the cap.

    Studder at 1/4 throttle

    On my 2008 rmz 450, at 1/4 throttle there's this horrible studder. It started about a month ago. The bike has about 70 hours on it i bought it later last year and never had a problem with it. The only thing that i changed on it was the header pipe it had the stock one and i tweaked it where it was making a weird noise so i replaced it with a stock one. Things i have tried............................ New spark plug Cleaned the air filter Oil change Checked the valves one exhaust is on the loose side but not out of spec. I may try injector cleaner but idk if thats ok for these bikes. Any help is appreciated thanks in advance

    Amazon case saver

    Recently bought a case saver via Amazon dude to the high shipping fees associated all over hell and back. I also found out it didn't exactly match up... Although it says it's part specific for my bike I'm assuming it's for an older model. I also Rock guarded the face. Now my question is how do the case savers from thumper talk it? Is there any gap like the one in my below picture.

    Drz only running on choke or prime

    Hey thumper talk! Long story short I have a 2000 drz400s that just got a new rebuilt engine after my previous one blew. The rebuilt was done fine and the bike was running perfectly. I decided to do some trail riding a couple days ago and the bike fell. It started up no problem and I continued home. Yesterday I was doing some city riding and I ran out of gas, I tried switching to reserve but the bike didn't want to start. I refilled the tank and everything seemed fine; now today I was riding on the highway and it started to stall and die as if it ran empty again but it wasn't and it would only start on prime. I can switch it to on after with the choke on but the second I take it off choke the bike dies unless it is set to prime. Would it be possible that when the bike fell dirt could of gotten into the carb and clogged a jet? I doubt theres something wrong with the engine. Could it maybe be a vacuum line? This already happened before the old engine blew at the beginning of the season I cleaned the carb and it seemed to be fine. I just need some ideas because I don't want to clean the carb again if that is not the issue. There has also been high humidity in my area for the past 2 days, would that cause the carb to act up? *Edit* ok so I took the bike for a long test run today I tried turning it on in the "on" position; it only starts on choke and then after some time on choke it dies, if I try switching the choke of it also dies. It runs like normal on prime I was able to drive it on my daily route. Im starting to think that the petcock is the problem but I will check to see if the boots on the carb got loose. There also seems to be a loud ticking noise but not the typical drz ticking noise. *edit pt 2* I've given up! My drz is just weird. On my way home from school it decided that it was going to start working again normally. I didn't touch anything, all I did was start it in the "on" position with choke on. It died twice and on the third time it stayed opened I kept the throttle open to see if it would choke out but it didn't I was able to ride it home with no issues. I really don't know what the problem could be? It seems to be fine now. As for the clicking noise, I discovered that it was a loose bolt on the exhaust tip, tightened it up and the noise is gone.
  8. So changed the oil today and realized I did not replace the o ring between the filter and engine. Am I doomed to have my bike size and toss me over the handlebars? If I pull filter to replace it will all oil drain from engine and frame?.... Messy TIA Mike
  9. I am currently running 10w 40 Belray non synthetic and I want to switch to full synthetic amsoil .... is it ok to switch from regular to synthetic? I have read it’s not safe to go from synthetic to regular can someone explain if it’s safe to go from regular to synthetic!? Thanks !
  10. Hey all Went to rebuild the rear shock on my 2001 DRZ400e and realized the brass low speed adjuster screw is seized. Applied heat and penetrant with no luck. From my research this appears to not be the stock shock as it does not have the dual, high and low speed adjuster. Ideally I would find a newer shock to rebuild my budget on the build for now is maxed and I need to get it back on the road. I’m hoping someone has an old shock they wouldn’t mind parting out a working adjuster or if you have any experience disassembling this component. Thanks for any help you can provide!

    New valve installation question

    Hey guys, so after pulling my engine apart to install a 434 BB kit I noticed that my valves are shot. Instinctively I lapped the valves before reading up on the fact that you should absolutely not lap the stock valves. Silly me. Anyway, I have some new Ferrera SS valves on the way but I have a question about the install. Will I need to have the seats cut by a shop to properly fit the new valves? I'm under the impression that due to the new valves being stainless, I can lap them without ruining anything. Will this be enough, or should I give the head and valves to a shop to have it properly cut? It's my first time installing new valves so I'm a bit lost and keep finding contradictory information. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers
  12. So I just installed a natural color oversized gas tank on my drz and now it’s a lot easier to see what’s in my fuel being the light color of the tank , sometimes after I refuel at a pump I notice little amounts of debris in my fuel anyone else seeing this as well ?
  13. How’s it going everyone. Have a question I’m hoping someone can answer. I have a drz 400sm. I was driving about a month ago and I got tboned with it on the back of my Jeep. Anyway the only damage was to the sub frame part where the stock plate and what not go onto. Not sure how it happened but anyway now I have one of those after market stand alone tail lights on it but because it’s recessed so far back you can’t see it with the stock fender. I stumbled across this picture from 2008 on another forum of a sick short back fender. So my question is anyone know what fender it is? Brand? Anything I have no idea from the post the guy had he didn’t give to much detail. Thanks everyone any and all help appreciated!

  15. Hey everyone so I did my third oil change on my 2017 drz400s never had any problems until now..... I went from normal to synthetic this time and noticed after draining my oil I was almost half a quart low ? Anyone have input ? I would appreciate it . Bike only has 1800 miles

    Big piece of metal on oil strainer

    So yesterday i was doing an oil change on my drz400s and found little dust metal, nothing to be scared of but then i pulled this out on top of the strainer(see picture). Its not very thick bug a litte concerning. The bike has 13500 miles on it. There is no new sounds besides the typical drz noise. No power loss or any thing. It is magnetic. When it came out of the frame it was straight but looks like it was cruved at one point. Any help would be accepted. Ill probably put the top end off tonight if i have the time.

    Drz400 won't start NEED HELP

    I'm new to the forum and need some help! A few weeks back I purchased an 01 drz400e that was pretty ugly and needed some love. The bike had trouble starting, it would only start if you gave it a little bit of throttle and held the throttle barely open until it was warmed up then it would idle on its own. If you did not constantly hold the throttle a little open it would die. It rode pretty well and would rev all the way out just fine. So I assumed the issue was jetting and it was to lean, no problem. I ended up stripping the bike down to the frame, getting the frame powder coated and a bunch of other stuff, I bought supermoto wheels and tires, all sorts of new parts and I'm just now getting everything back together and the bike isn't starting/ running properly at all! As far as the engine/ carb the only thing I messed with was I installed the jd jet kit and did the air box mod using the red needle 3rd place, and the 160 jet. Fuel screw is about 1 and 3/4 turns out. I cleaned out the rest of the carb as well. I also removed the valve cover , water pump housing and the coolant inlet piece above the exhaust and powder coated them. I don't have the entire bike back together including plastics, brakes, street legal wiring etc. but I do have enough to start the bike and run it so I thought I would do so and it was a complete fail. The bike turns over fine but doesn't seem to want to start unless I give it a little throttle like before. Then it will start up while I'm still giving it throttle but now it barely runs. It sounds bad and sounds like it's running very slow or something. The bike will do this while I hold the throttle a little open for about 30 seconds or so then all the sudden rev up pretty high(which actually sounds pretty good) then die. Oh and it is puffing out some white smoke:(((. I know I must of done something wrong when putting everything back together but I'm no expert mechanic and need help diagnosing the issue. I did check the valves while the engine was out and they were in check. I'm not sure if I ran some of the hoses to the incorrect place, did something wrong with carb, messed up a gasket on the valve cover or water pump or connected the wiring wrong. I would really appreciate any help, I've spent a lot of money on this bike and really want to ride it. Thanks, Preston

    Drz sm what wheels fit?

    New to this and this will be my first bike. a Drz 400sm but i want dirt wheels. I am wondering if after market s wheels fit straight on or do only stock s wheels. I have read many forums but none clarify if stock or aftermarket.

So I am going to put in an in-line fuel filter just for added protection from stuff in my gas .... and I have always used bronze element cone ones you no what I’m talking about the ones everyone seems to use but upon reading online supposedly that bronze element breaks down and doesn’t catch everything .... I have came across a moose fuel filter that has a fine nylon mesh just like what’s on the petcock filter ... any opinions on which is better ? Bronze element or mesh ?
