    What big bore is this??

Just picked up a used 2005 DRZ400sm last week. Previous owner said it was a big bore. Anybody know what make it is? Also, the bike has a full FMF exhaust that backfires a lot when rolling off, just wondering if there is an easy way to tell if the carb was re-jetted before I buy a jet kit.
  2. Hi all, Hoping someone can help. Basically I require the bush/bearing that sits in the crank arm on the small end. (the bush sleeve, bronze, brass thing, whatever you call it) Im based in the UK and Im having a hard time of finding a replacement. long story short, the bike acquired an oil leak while on a long journey and ended up running low on oil. I've stripped the engine, and everything is good apart from the piston and cylinder. I can't feel any play in the small end rod bush but it is marked and I'm changing it more for peace of mind than anything else. ps: I realise the bush maybe marked due to the softer material insert? I'm used to looking at cranks without this bush. (connecting rod) example

    Leaking Air Valve From Base

Hey all, just got a DRZ-400 yesterday and absolutely love it. Today I took it out for a ride and when I got back I noticed the tire was leaking from the valve. I looked on the other posts here about leaking valve stems but all of their leaks are coming from the top. The leak on mine is coming from where the stem meets the rim right under the nut. Can I put sealant there to patch the leak? Or what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

    DRZ 125L Top End Rebuild

Hi All, I am going to be rebuilding the top end of my '07 DRZ 125L. I am what most would call a complete novice when it comes to rebuilding engines and am just looking for general information on parts required and any other things that I could need or would be helpful. I am also considering putting a bbk 150cc on it when I do the rebuild, Any thoughts? Thanks.
  5. Hello friends, Just thought I'd share a short summary video of a 154-mile adventure ride my buddy and I did last week. Northeastern AZ has an unbelievable amount of rural trail/road to explore. My KLX300R averaged 71.5 MPG on this ride.
  6. Greets to all. I'm about to install an Athena BB kit on my S. Kit comes with a single layer base gasket an gives 12.3:1 compression ratio. I've been thinking about bumping up the compression a bit. No budget available for a hi-comp piston, so I was thinking of machining the cylinder face down a couple of tenths of a millimeter. I have access to machinery needed for the task, so cost is out of the question. Will check piston-to-deck height and all before proceeding. My main concern is the nikasil coating, actually the point it "finishes" at the top of the bore. There's a chamfer right there, measures over half a mm high, so could easily be ok. But I need confirmation, wouldn't want to ruin my BB. Anyone done that before? Any problems with it? Thanks in advance. Lefteris.

    DRZ400E blown engine

I'm trying to help my buddy find a DRZ and we came across this E model with a blown engine for $500. Seems like a pretty good deal so long as the engine damage isn't too extensive. https://ashtabula.craigslist.org/mcy/d/2000-drz-400e-street-legal/6319866501.html He says he was on the highway and it locked up. He said the crank still moves to a certain point then gets stuck. Does anyone have any idea what the issue is? Figured if it was just a top end we could just put a big bore in it. We're gonna try to look at it this weekend, any ideas would be appreciated.

    Valve Question

This has been an ongoing issue, as I am sure some of you are beginning to notice.. sorry for the somewhat repetitive posts in advance. My valves were out of spec, I was only getting 85-90 PSI of compression. I shimmed my valves to the correct clearance, and I got the compression up to 150 psi. Now after riding my bike for 15-20 minutes, it will start doing the same thing it did before - it will idle super low and eventually bog out. I had the idle adjustment turned up very high, when I gave it a little throttle the idle would kick up for a couple seconds, then it would settle back down to extremely low and bog out. To me this sounds like something with the idle air circ, or jetting. Could something with the valves cause this as well? Want to get a second opinion before I send the head in for the $500 rebuild and still have the same issue. Thank you all again!

I purchased this a few years back to replace the bearings in an old set of rims for a DRZ-400, but I never used them. They are new, never opened, and an excellent, cost effective alternative to the expensive OEM bearing and seals. From Pivot Works website, Fits: 2000 - 2018 Suzuki DRZ 400S/E 2005 - 2018 Suzuki DRZ 400SM ***Please be sure that this kit fits your application*** Buyer pays shipping ~$7 flat rate.

  10. Hello all, I apologize if this question has been asked already, I have spent the last 30 minutes trying to find an answer to my question to no avail. So here we go: I decided to get my factory wheels powder coated (just the hubs, spokes, and nipples) to help jazz things up a bit. I sent the wheels out to my powder coat guy, he is a huge Suzuki guy and is a factory certified Suzuki technician as well as an MMI graduate with perfect attendance. The guy really knows his stuff. However he is more of a GSXR specialist and doesn't mess with dirt bikes too much. So after coating the wheels he sent them to the local Suzuki dealership to have them re-assembled and trued. I'm not sure how much these guys know about DRZ's as they are more of a Yamaha/Kawasaki heavy dealership but they do sell a few Suzuki's (This is the same place I bought my sm brand new) and the guy who laced the wheels is a big name in the local motocross scene. Anyways; my guy got them back, called me, and I picked them up and installed them on my bike immediately. After putting the bike back together I immediately noticed my chain was now rubbing my tire. I did some research and came to the conclusion (educated guess is probably more accurate) that the wheel offset is incorrect. I'm not really the most comfortable attempting to fix this myself but I figure it has to go back regardless if I don't, so I might as well try and take a stab at it. I contacted my guy and he said he verified that the wheel is true and that the hub was perfectly center when he received it back from the dealership. However, I have read on Supermotojunkie that the DRZ has a right side offset from the factory and am wondering it that's what the issue is. If that is true, does anyone know what the offset is supposed to be? Or how I can determine what it should be? Also will I be able to get away with just using a spoke wrench to try and tackle this by myself? The bike has stunt pegs so I was just gonna disconnect the chain and set it up on jack stands to use the swing arm and axle as a "truing stand". Also, any other things to look for that might suggest it's not an offset issue? I added a new chain and sprocket as well but the chain is a 520 chain just like the stock one and the sprocket is a steel sprocket as before as well, so I doubt it's any different in thickness. It came from Supersprox and is nice and beefy. Thank you all in advance for your help! Any information is appreciated.

    DRZ Build (Complete)

Hey Folks, my drz was stolen last night and I am pretty bummed. Since riding is the only option, I need to find or build a new ride. Picking up on CL/TT is the most straightforward option (and probably cheapest), but I have been thinking through the logistics of a total drz build from the ground up — is there a forum or blog on this already? If not, I might make an attempt if I can get some help on putting together a parts list. It seems frames, forks, suspension, top/bottom end etc are available on ebay. Thanks everyone, stay safe out there. -AM
  13. I recently converted my DRZ-400E to a street legal by way of the tusk light kit. I am now blowing fuses. The wiring looks good, but I am wondering if I am using too much wattage for my standard 10 Amp fuse??? Any suggestions?

    H4 LED Headlight Bulb Kit

Looking for info on an H4 LED bulb replacement. I'm not looking to use the 4x6 headlights many have used. I'll be doing the KLX450 headlight/fairing mod. Looks like eBay has a bunch of options, but to use with stock DRZ wiring what wattage/specs am I looking for? Anyone had success/nightmares? Looking at something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-H4-6500K-COB-LED-Motorcycle-Hi-Lo-Fog-Lamp-Headlight-Bulb-For-Moto-RH/292243629220?hash=item440b13e4a4:g:mxwAAOSwJ~RZsOJ4&vxp=mtr
  16. Made a quick video last night on the two water crossings we did this last week on the Oregon Back Country Discovery (OBDR) Route #4 from Seneca to Sisters, Oregon. This OBDR segment (Route 4) covers about 240 miles of pretty darn remote area. You have to cross the Malheur river at two different points about 22 miles apart. Fun crossings. Not terribly difficult in July, but you can screw it up and hydrolock your bike if you aren't careful. (I've seen more than one video on YouTube of folks dumping their bike and sucking in a cylinder full of water.) The GPS coordinates of each crossing are in the video, but here's the data also: North Fork of the Malheur River “Crane Crossing” 44º09’34.45” N 118º22’06.79” W Elevation 4506 feet Approx 22 miles apart Malheur River Crossing at the Malheur Ford Trailhead 44º05’13.17” N 118º34’46.88” W Elevation 4781 feet Here's info on the different Oregon Back Country Discovery Route: http://www.oohva.org/index.html

    DRZ110 running rich

Hi all, I have a completely stock 2005 Suzuki drz110 (same thing as a klx110) and it is running way to rich. It wont idle at all but will hang before it dies. It puffs a little bit of black smoke too. It always starts 1st kick and has decent power. Jets are stock at 35 pilot and 80 main. playing with the idle and fuel screws don`t do anything. Spark plug is black but it doesn't foul plugs. checked all around engine for air leaks with carb and choke cleaner and have found none. Air filter is clean and valves were just adjusted. Im out of things to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Luke
  18. I'm getting my bike ready to run a big chunk of the Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route (OBDR) this summer so I'm going through it adding things I think will help bulletproof the bike and maybe keep me from having "issues" when I'm 100 miles from nowhere in the middle of the desert in Eastern Oregon. What I hate is that since these products are made for such a niche market the prices are just ridiculous. So in that vein, here's another $89 worth of aluminum...sigh... One thing I've noticed online is that there is sometimes a lack of good clear pictures or videos on specific parts for the DR-Z, so I try to rectify that with my videos. (aka: I use a tripod as much as possible...lol...)

    HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHY...

Hey, new member here looking for opinions I have about 8k miles on my 2015 DRZ400sm. I was riding about 80mph and felt a momentary loss of power, dropped off the throttle and it felt ok. At the next stop i could here top end noise like the piston was tapping so i tore it apart and found: The upper piston ring was ok, the lower was stuck in the groove (flush with the piston ) and unable to move around the piston. there was scuffing on both intake and exhaust side of the jug and piston. Before tearing apart i did a leakdown and could hear air from exhaust and from down by the timing chain. I will try to post pic and video with this post Bike was running great then had started puffing smoke when i get on it quick, and the idle would fluctuate a good bit 2015 DRZ- 3x3, k&n filter, FCR39 (with eddie mod) DRZ E airbox boot and exhaust header with drilled out stock SM muffler with "power tip"

    DRZ ignition coil

I have an 03 drz that will not start, I've checked fuel, compression, and now I'm chasing spark I got a manual and started doing some electrical ohm tests. stator, rectifier, and coil. The only one that didnt match the specs in the manual was the coil. I have two coils for this bike and have tried them both in the bike. They both make spark when they're out of the bike and grounded to the frame. however neither of the coils meet the spec for the secondary coil ohms. The spec is like 13k to 20k ohms one coil gets like 2,500 ohms and the other gets like 5,000 ohms on the secondary Are both coils bad? and.. Is it possible that I'm not getting spark in the cylinder?

    supermoto Supermoto Group Riding Atlanta

I have a DRZ400sm in Atlanta, and I want to do some casual group riding. I'm newer to riding, and I'm still developing my skills, but I'm very safe and responsible. Does anyone have any knowledge of groups/good practice areas around town?

    DRZ 400 Rally

Hi everyone, I am curently building my bike for light adventure riding. I am making a contraption that I would like to call a rally fairing. I am showing you what I have made so far. For the build; - oversize GPI racing radiators - oversize gaz tank - fuel pump - swapping the speedometer by a vapor - custom made bracket for fairing - fiberglass fairing/windsheild I have not adressed the wide ratio issue since I just completely rebuild the engine last winter. I got a 39 teeth sproket for highway speed. I have no experience whatsoever with fiberglass, any input would be apreciated. Thanks for the interest.

    DRZ Passenger Peg Removal

I just bought a new DRZ400, and am hoping to remove the passenger pegs. I've seen on the forums that there used to be a part you could get to attach the exhaust in place of the peg mount, but I can't seem to find anywhere that carries it now. Are there any good options that don't require modification? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Buying a DRZ400 used - 2002. S or E?

Hey all, so, I have klx250s 2018. Issue is, it struggles to keep 65 70mph with an upgraded 14T sprocket. I passed by the dealer, and they have a used DRZ400....issue is, I am not even sure if its the E or S. Seems it does not have a speedometer, just a trip counter. Not really a big deal to me. To me, when I ride my KLX250 its pretty comfortable for me at 65 70 mph but I am hitting full throttle and it takes about 15 seconds to reach 60mph lol and even way longer to reach 70 mph. Ive heard, and from youtube videos, drz400 can hit 0 - 60 in about 5 - 7 seconds, which is perfect for me. I am also looking for a bike that can hold 70 75 mph. My klx250 can do it, but only going down hill and it takes over a minute if I am going straight ha ha. Again, buzzing and wind does not bother me...just need a stronger engine. Would the DRZ400 do it? my other issue, I cant tell if its a dedicated dirt bike turned street legal, or if its the actual dual sport. is there a power difference going 65 - 70 mph? or am I better off with the DR650? but I even head the drz400 has better power going to 60 - 70 mph
  25. Hey Guys! I'm brand new here (and to riding in general!) so if i'm breaking the rules or if there's a sticky i should have read, Sorry!! Just tell me where I need to go! If not, I'm looking at a 2008 DRZ-400SM with about 20k miles on it, and the guy wants $3699 for it. Actually it's a powersports dealer (good or bad??) that seems to have a good reputation around here and it comes with a 12 month/unlimited miles, limited warranty (no idea what the fine print says). It's just impossible to find a used DRZ400! I want one to take offroad and i've read you can swap the wheels really easily, plus i'm just starting to ride so maybe it'd be a good bike to learn on? Correct me if i'm wrong! Any help you got!
