    suzuki 1991 Suzuki DS80 problems

Ive got a 1991 Suzuki DS80 and i dont know much about bikes, we had a problem that the bike would rev high rpms when idling but i fixed that by messing with the pilot air screw. but now my bike seems to be losing rpms when riding in first or just shuts of completely, i would like to know how to fix this the cheapest and or the easiest way
  2. Hi gang, I'm new here, my name is Jim. We live in Florida and ride at Croom motorcycle park. We have 3 chinese pit bikes, two kawasaki atv's, and this suzuki 2 stroke I am asking about. I bought this 2001 suzuki jr80 dirt bike for my grandkids. It was missing the carb and when I got it home, I also found it had no compression. My 12 year old grandson diasassembled it under my guidance and the piston rings were missing and the piston is beat up. The head and cylinder look good. I am ordering a suzuki brand piston with gasket set for $95. The carb is $150 for a suzuki brand. I measured the rubber boot on the cylinder that the carb slips into and its 25 mm. I also have 3 chinese pit bikes the kids ride and I have had good luck with them. I bought this bike because they wanted to try a 2 stroke. I found a 28 mm chinese carb for a rm 80 for $25. It is 3 mm bigger though. Do you think I can fit it in the 25 mm boot? Or should I just go with the suzuki $150 carb?

  4. Hello, I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2008 rmz250. I bought the bike in pieces from a guy who claimed it wouldn't go into 4th gear. During reassemling, I examined all of the gears, dogs and shift cam but saw nothing out of the ordinary for as far as wear goes. And after it was completely together, I was able to shift through all of the gears well while the bike was on the stand (not running) and it catches and stays in gear, like it would normally do. However, during the first ride, it will shift up into 3rd but when it gets to 4th, there's nothing, false neutral. I'm thinking the detent spring is weak. Which would make sense as it stays in gear while the engine is off, but will hit false neutral while running. Does anyone have any idea about this or has run into this problem before?
  5. Just recently picked up a brand new 2017 KX450F from Paulson's (they were trying to get rid of all of their 2017's so they could make room for the 2019's) and my pops and I are looking for new places to ride other than Belfair/Tahuya. NOTHING wrong with Belfair but we are just looking for something different! So my pops and I used to do the Desert 100 all the time when it was in Mattawa (near Vantage, WA). Then they changed locations to Odessa, WA and it wasn't the same. We were told that they were doing some sort of testing in Mattawa and that's why the location changed but I've been seeing YouTube vids of people riding there as recent as last year. My questions are: Do you need a park pass or anything to go ride over there? One video looks like they parked at the old parking lot/staging area for the Desert 100. Is that were most people still park? If anyone can give me some info, that'd be awesome and much appreciated! Also, figured I'd ask in the same post about riding over in Cle Elum/Roslyn area. I grew up camping over there and riding near the coal piles. I guess the locals complained about the coal dust settling in the town and riding was shut down. Me or my dad haven't been riding over there in probably 20 years. Anyone have any details on riding over there as well? Need any park passes? Where to park and go. My dad knows that area like the back of his hand so I'd love to take him bake there! I haven't rode over there since I was on a KX60. I'm new to this site so I appreciate any info and am excited about being apart of this forum! Braaaaaaaap! Just because - I'll post a pic of the new bike! Just put on a FMF F4.1 Slip-on this week.
  6. Hi all, Im a little bit smaller of a rider about 5`2 or 5`3 110 pounds. I feel ive outgrown my crf150rb and am looking to go to a a 250 next spring. Whats the slimmest/smallest 250f out there. Ive almost entirely ruled out a Yamaha because i went to a dealer to look at them and they feel and look so much bigger than all the other 250s. Kawasaki seems like its a smaller slimmer skinnier bike but the Suzuki doesn't look bad either. Ktms seem huge to me and really haven't looked at hondas yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Bradenton area questions

Just picked up a 2012 rmz450. I'm just getting back into riding after a few years off. What tires are you guys running for fl track and trails, or Tampa mx? Whos the go to local suspension guy? I have had past bikes done by six12, and pro action. Any recommendations? Are there any other areas to ride around here? Seems like at least an hourish drive either way to have a place to ride.

  12. A friend of mine asked me to fix his drz125 for him. The bike was put away running and sat for about 6 years In a shed. I cleaned the carb, air box, air filter, etc... and shimed the valves. The bike will start right up 1st kick but when it gets hot it will only idle and die out when u give it gas. I think it's a fuel related issue but I don't know what else to do. Please help, any ideas are appreciated.
  13. So I am going to put in an in-line fuel filter just for added protection from stuff in my gas .... and I have always used bronze element cone ones you no what I’m talking about the ones everyone seems to use but upon reading online supposedly that bronze element breaks down and doesn’t catch everything .... I have came across a moose fuel filter that has a fine nylon mesh just like what’s on the petcock filter ... any opinions on which is better ? Bronze element or mesh ?

    FS: WARP9 Supermoto Wheels

I have a set of Warp 9 Supermoto Wheels I will be selling with in the next month or two. Just testing the waters to see if anyone is interested in buying them. I just bought a 2015 Honda CRF450X and am going to set it up for dual sport / enduro riding rather than supermoto riding. They have the black rim, silver spokes, and red hubs. They are in great condition, not scratched up or anything. Depending on what shipping cost and everything I'll prob ask around $750 for them. Brand new they run $900-950. The wheels have dual sport knobby tires on them now and can potentially be sold with them included. I don't have pictures of them right now but can upload some on here soon. DM me if you're interested.
  15. Hey there, I recently bought a 1979 Suzuki PE250 in pretty good condition for its age I'd say. However the fork seals are leaking and after struggling for a few days to get the fork caps open(they were seized) I have now come to a new problem. The Dust seal Holder seems to be stuck, in the shop manual it mentions some sort of special tool for removing the fork seal but I'm not sure what exactly it would do.The thing seems like it should just unscrew. I've tried whacking it with a screw driver and a hammer and I had some minor progress but its painfully slow so I was wondering if any of you vintage motorcycle wizards would be able to enlighten me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    93' dr350 idle issue's

Hi all from Alaska and thank you for an awesome site!! I'm a new member but a long time lurker. I have a 1993 dr350 dirt model that I'm working on fixing sence I wrecked it as a kid. The issue I'm having is the carb sence I rebuilt it I can't get the bike to idle after warmed. I'm looking for any advice you all have. I also took the bike for a ride tonight very short but in gear I can't rev the bike at all and it stumbles but in nutral it revs fine. The idle is very high and I can't get it down. Thanks in advance mud.
  18. Not sure if its been asked here or not, can't find anything that has a definite answer. I currently have an 09 RMZ 450 that I was able to pick up cheap. I want to uprage to a newer model (don't wanna spend the money for an 18 right now) but I hate air forks. I was wondering if the 09 forks are a direct fit into a 16-17 model or not? I think the triple clamps should be the same, just worried about the bottom linking up... Ive looked into the air to spring conversion kits but I have my suspension on the 09 valved and set perfect and would love to be able to put it in a newer model.

    2 Stroke Top End Problem

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you could help me out. I’ve got a 2010 KTM 250 XC that just doesn’t rip like a normal two stroke should. When I get up to the top end power it just signs off really early, causing me to shift really early. I can’t figure out why it’s doing that for the life of me. My jetting is spot on for th altitude I ride, the spark plug is a perfect brown coffee color, (170 main, 40 pilot, Suzuki NECJ Needle on 3rd clip) so it can’t be that. (I went with the Suzuki needle because I read on here that it could give it more top end, it did but not the amount it should have) and it I just put on new reed petals for the V-Force 4 reed system, new FMF Fatty and FMF Turbinecore 2 pipes, stock gearing (13:50), yellow power valve spring (red spring doesn’t help either) aggressive engine map, and it still signs off early on top. I bought the bike used, and the previous owner had it choked up so it acted more like a four stroke. The only thing I haven’t looked at is if it has a fly wheel weight, but that wouldn’t necessarily make it act less wild like a two-stroke, would it? I need some suggestions and I would greatly appreciate the help!
  20. AMA Numbers

Does anyone know how to, or if you can, change your AMA number? The race number, not the full thing.
  22. Hi guys! I own a DRZ400s and have a question about taking a different approach to the standard leaky petcock Fix. So, I just ordered the fix a lot of people recommended on here for the leaky stock petcock: The Petcock off of a Yamaha Raptor. I did this after looking for other vacuum petcocks and not finding good alternatives. However, I found a part made by Pingel, and was wondering if it would work in conjunction with the Yamaha Raptor petcock, in order to give me the perks of the Suzuki Vacuum Petcock, without it's shoddy craftsmanship and limited life. Could one of you guys help me out, and tell me if this would work? Do I just place the Pingel Inline Vacuum Valve on the fuel line between the Raptor Petcock and the Carb? Or does the Pingel Valve work as a petcock all on it's own? Thanks guys. Besides hitting the dirt often, I am trying to use my DRZ to zip around Los Angeles and make deliveries with postmates/grubhub/etc, so I would not like have to shut off the manual petcock every time I hop on/off the bike. Thanks again guys!

    Drz400 won't start NEED HELP

I'm new to the forum and need some help! A few weeks back I purchased an 01 drz400e that was pretty ugly and needed some love. The bike had trouble starting, it would only start if you gave it a little bit of throttle and held the throttle barely open until it was warmed up then it would idle on its own. If you did not constantly hold the throttle a little open it would die. It rode pretty well and would rev all the way out just fine. So I assumed the issue was jetting and it was to lean, no problem. I ended up stripping the bike down to the frame, getting the frame powder coated and a bunch of other stuff, I bought supermoto wheels and tires, all sorts of new parts and I'm just now getting everything back together and the bike isn't starting/ running properly at all! As far as the engine/ carb the only thing I messed with was I installed the jd jet kit and did the air box mod using the red needle 3rd place, and the 160 jet. Fuel screw is about 1 and 3/4 turns out. I cleaned out the rest of the carb as well. I also removed the valve cover , water pump housing and the coolant inlet piece above the exhaust and powder coated them. I don't have the entire bike back together including plastics, brakes, street legal wiring etc. but I do have enough to start the bike and run it so I thought I would do so and it was a complete fail. The bike turns over fine but doesn't seem to want to start unless I give it a little throttle like before. Then it will start up while I'm still giving it throttle but now it barely runs. It sounds bad and sounds like it's running very slow or something. The bike will do this while I hold the throttle a little open for about 30 seconds or so then all the sudden rev up pretty high(which actually sounds pretty good) then die. Oh and it is puffing out some white smoke:(((. I know I must of done something wrong when putting everything back together but I'm no expert mechanic and need help diagnosing the issue. I did check the valves while the engine was out and they were in check. I'm not sure if I ran some of the hoses to the incorrect place, did something wrong with carb, messed up a gasket on the valve cover or water pump or connected the wiring wrong. I would really appreciate any help, I've spent a lot of money on this bike and really want to ride it. Thanks, Preston
  24. Hi, can anyone tell me for sure what grade of aluminium is the Suzuki RMZ 450 frame/chassis made from? e.g. 6061, 7020. Been Googling but can't find a definitive answer. Thanks!

    Oil in gas

Hey guys . I feel like I post here way to much lol anyway after having my bike kn it’s side overnight to fix a cracked stator cover .... I come to find out that I also accidentally left the pet cock in the prime position .... constant gas flow to carb ... now my oil smells strongly of gas ... my question is ... was it the bike being on its side that made the gas get into the oil or the prime position on petcock that made this happen ? Or both ? I didn’t ride it much at all after discovering... I assume. I should drain the oil obviously but any other suggestions ? Always appreciated -mark
