I'm looking for tips , tricks , and brand information ,preferences etc . .. basically any intel thanks helpful .     I am in the process of street legalizing my yz250f and am currently looking around for tires either street or dual sport tires, I was hoping someone could help me find stick sized tires that are mainly for the street but if know of any dual sport tires that would work too! Thankyou!

    Valve Shim for Hot Cams

    I have a 2009 yz250f with Hot Cams and it is in dire need of a valve adjustment takes about 30 kicks to start and I am planning on doing it myself I just need the correct valve shim kit and I don't know what size kit to order so I was hoping some of you guys could help me out, and the bike has a big bore kit so it is 290cc idk if that matters but please help!!!

    yz250f or yz125?

    im am 13, 100 pounds (with gear) and currently ride a 08 yz85 and am looking to move up. first off im not rich and i have to pay for my own stuff, i am not going to be racing i mainly just ride track and trails here and there also some desert sinlge track. i am debating on witch i should get next a yz125 or a yz250f. i can handle the power i have riddden both a 125 2 stroke and a 250f and i basically fell in love with both so i am in a predicament on what whould be best. anything helps

I start my motocross challenge with 2011 YZ450F . although i had many years experience with heavy cubic MC , from the first start i underestand it have so much power . and the first try MX track was scary and i decide to sell it . but as i am a stubborn person , i keep pushing and learning whit this bike . + mapping it as soft as possible and now i am getting better . last weekend i tried a rmz250 and was amazed how well i can drive it, but i didnt like it there was no power in it . now i need help : my friend suggest me to change to a 250 2 stroke : so how dose it feel to change from 450 4t to 250 2 stroke !? it is getting even harder !? or should i just not give up and keep pushing and learning with a 450 !? or maybe i just go to 20 4 stroke !?
  7. Hey guys, so recently I've noticed that my front pro circuit suspension is stiffer than hell. So I read on it and it said that sometimes it's because the front wheel is misaligned and the forks will not sit right. So I put the bike on a stand bled the suspension and got the axle nut loose and the pinch bolts, and every body said to push the suspension down or even press the brakes a few times to help align the wheel. I made sure to tighten the axle then tightened the pinch bolts. But when I tried to push the suspension down while everything was loose it barely moves at all because it's so stiff. I even tried putting the bike on the stand and turning the clickers counter clockwise to soften them up but they were out of adjustment. What do I Do? How do you guys realign the wheel? I've got a riding trip coming up soon and need as much help as I can get. I'll try to add a link to video I found of a bike doing the same thing.
  8. I have a 2016 YZ250F. I ride/race MX. I'm looking to wake up the motor a bit and am looking at different exhausts. I haven't been able to track down a good pipe comparison for my bike - The best I've found is an MXA shootout for 2014. That shootout rated the Yoshimura the best but gave the pros and cons of each pipe. Is there a pipe shootout for my bike that I just can't find, or am I stuck with digging up individual reviews? If so, could somebody please send me links to some of the reviews? Thanks in advance.

    2008 YZ250f Weak Spark

    The bike has spark at the plug when grounded on the engine but not much. I have a wr250f so I compared the two. The wr has much more, bright blue spark, yz - you can barley see the spark. I switched plugs and coils between the two bikes, same result. The bike will start and run for 30-60 seconds and then die. If you crack the throttle it dies. I have checked the ohms from the stator. It all checks out with my multi meter to be within spec. I have check all connections, disconnected the kill switch. Nothing makes any difference. I have researched and read every article. Before I start buying parts and switching them out I'm open for suggestions. When the bike quit and we got it hope, I noticed that there was a hole on the radiator hose and there was no water in the bike. I figured it had run hot and melted the piston. I checked the valves. They were spot on. Pulled the top end off. The piston and cylinder looked okay. The oil rings showed wear so I put in a new piston and rings hoping. When I got it back together it was still the same. You can get it to start after several kicks but not for long. Could the heat have caused something to happen in the electrical system? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. From all I have read the cdi rarely goes out on these bikes. Thanks, Darrell

    yz125 or yz250

    Hi, I'm looking to buy either a yz125 or yz250 upgrading from a yz85. I'm 16 years old, i'm 6'2" and weigh about 145lbs. I'm upgrading from the yz85 because the frame is too small and I've outgrown it, plus its a little weak. I would like to get a yz250, but they are pretty pricey and my budget tops out about $1500. I found a good deal on a 2009 yz125 ($1300), but I'm wondering if there isn't enough power? I'm not really going to be racing, I might go to the local track for practice every once in a while, but nothing crazy. What do you guys think? yz125 enough power for a 145lbs teenager? Or is the yz250 the better option because of the 125's lack of bottom end power (i'm used to this with the 85)? Thanks!
  11. I found a Magnum 290 kit on ebay for my 09 yz250f; thought I'd give it a try. It was $400, figured that's not too bad for cylinder, piston, and gaskets. Advice #1: After you take your current piston off; put the new jug on with the water jacket dowel and the two steel dowels in place to make sure everything is going to fit right. Make sure the castings are perfect so it fits down nicely and flat. Mine were a bit too tight in one spot, and I had to dremel just a tiny bit off a steel dowel hole edge for a good fit. Advice #2: Be super careful about stuff dropping into the motor, take your time, cover the motor very well. Advice #3: The four head bolts? they are different lengths, note which goes where. Advice #4: Put the exhaust cam on first, then the intake. Advice #5: Measure your valve clearances as you take your motor apart. Otherwise you have to put it together again, just to see you would rather have shimmed. Advice #6: Put those metal clips into the cam caps, then put the cams into the caps (carefully getting the cams into the clip properly), then hold the cams as you put them in the head Power does seem to be increased everywhere. It's a noticeable increase. I had heard that it signs off hardcore up top; maybe I didn't rev the crap out of it because it was the break-in ride, but I didn't feel that. Is it a mini 450? Is it a 450 slayer? No, I mean, in the right hands it could be; but a 450 is still faster and even if you can be even with them for a stretch, then you have to shift. Mine doesn't feel as fast as a Husqvarna 350. It feels like a strong 250f, but still a 250f. Maybe now you can be one gear tall coming out of a corner, but not almost any gear tall like on a 450. The increase is noticeable and welcome though. It felt strong and I liked how it ran. I recommend this kit, it felt great.
  12. Hi Folks! I decided that I am tired of my 06 WR250F having horrible damping (i.e. none at all) and so am going to upgrade the suspension. My questions for you are, 1. Is it worth it, given the age of the bike and cost of the parts, to find old 06-07 YZ250F SSS twin chamber forks and shock and rebuild/upgrade them, or just install a gold valve or similar in my single chamber WR forks? I like the idea of bolting on YZ TC forks and shock, but the cost at this point for them both runs about $500-$600 and they are guaranteed to be clapped out and need a full rebuild/upgrade, just like my WR forks/shock. 2. Race Tech offers a compression gold valve available, but not a rebound gold valve. Can you tell me why this is? I would like both, of course. 3. Will YZ450F components work as well? If so, what year range? 4. Ohlins drop in cartridges look awesome, but front and rear would cost the worth of the bike ;-) Thank you for the help!
  13. Please help! I recently bought a Yz250f and have not been able to start it, it Has spark, but there are many issues with the carby which I wanna rule out before I leap into a rebuild, ( I want to avoid a rebuild if possible as I’m low on cash). The carby at the moment is a complete mess so the usual steps to fixing it might not work. So here’s the deal with the carb: - It’s leaking fuel from overflow ( really fast! ) and when I mean really fast, I mean it emptied my fuel tank in 2 mins. - It has a slow leak coming from somewhere under the float bowl - the air fuel screw is not adjusted correctly - I don’t know if the electrics work on it either - I don’t even know if it’s shooting fuel into the cylinder or not, as after kicking it a couple times and it’s not starting I remove the spark plug and it’s still dry. ( I tried putting fuel directly into cylinder from the spark plug hole but the bike still wouldn’t start) okay so I know it’s a lot but I’m not expecting anyone to answer every single question themselves. If each person could tackle whatever problem they know it would help heaps. Also just want to know what Order to fix things in as I can’t do air fuel until the bike is running and it won’t run unless I stop the leaking and get it to spray fuel into the cylinder. And buying a new carby is not an option ( I’ve got $40 to my name atm). Please help guys thanks.

    2001 WR250f Plastic Help

    So here is the problem I am in; I want to freshen up my old 2001 WR250f, I currently have the Hurricane Hannah Graphics (Tells you when I last did this) in fact I got it by busting my butt for my dad when we were selling his house and he got the kit for me as a reward and we put it on (Great Memories); but back to being on topic. So I am searching online and I noticed that the pickings for a WR especially a 01 is about as good as a finding a women at a all male school right now. So I was wondering since the frame is unchanged until 2007 when they went to the Aluminum frame does anyone know if the 2001-2006 plastic will bolt on? Cause I want to find the Yellow Plastic again, as I am a huge fan of the old Yamaha graphics kit as you can see from my YZ250x and my 01 WR. Does anyone know who still makes yellow plastic for this old bike and if the 2001-2006 plastic (with minor mods as my 2001 YZ250f plastic that's on it needed a bit of modding) will fit on the bike?   15. Hi, my buddy and I are rebuilding a 2001 yz250f bottom end, the crank and connecting rod need replaced, my friend wants to buy a full bottom end kit, but the only one we found for it was for a 2003 yz250f bottom end kit, would this work in the '01 case?
  16. I just bought this bike a couple of months ago, when I would ride for a good amount of time I would have to fill the radiator for the next ride just like any other water cooled bike. Since the bike is not my height I have dropped it a couple of times. Now I am noticing that the water level is always full when the weather is getting hotter and hotter, I do not want to mess up my bike or get stranded due to overheating. Does anyone might know what it could be? P.S Can someone tell me where I can get a lowering link

    2005 KX250F

    I have a 2005 KX250F. I know they have a bad rap for overheating and other engine problems, but got it super cheap so couldn't walk away. I want to know if anyone has tried putting some kind of fans on the radiators to allow for higher ride temperatures. Like slow trail riding and things like that, that particularly don't get enough air flow across radiators to cool the coolant. Let me know if you have, and how you did it. I may be starting a fire with this, but what was so bad about the 05 kx250f? Mine runs great and has never overheated after hard riding, slow riding with high rpm, and several other situations. Just want to know what to look out for in the near future for problems. SO WHAT WAS SO BAD ABOUT THE 2005 KX250F?

My question is, Can you identify the piston size ( A B or C ) before the tear down? would like to order parts first before tearing it down. Vertex sells three different stock bore sizes,
  19. Hey guys I just bought a bike last night. So the seller said the bike will turn on but then die. We didn't try it because it was really late at night and it was raining (seat was wet). But he said if you bump start it, it will turn on and ride. So what do you think the problem is? I just want to make sure it runs... I probably won't be able to bump start it till Saturday (rain)... It's a four stroke, and I know absolutely nothing about them. Thanks.
  20. When I unscrew the drain screw on my carb nothing will come out. I have to take the screw all the way out and then the gas will come out the screw hole instead of the designated exit. It seems like there is a seal or something inside?
  21. I’m currently at stock jetting on my 2003 yz250f. I’m rebuilding the top end with a 269cc big bore kit and installing an FMF power core 4 with megabomb exhaust. Current elevation is 700’ above sea level. Where should I start with my jetting? And where can I buy individual jets so that I don’t have to buy an entire assortment? Currently: 178 main 42 pilot needle is 4th Clip from top (stock)
  22. I freshly rebuild top on my 09 yzf250 with new valves and piston. I put it back toget her and it ran mint, turned off starting back up and really out noise coming from top end( not normal ) so I was freaking out. I took the valve cover off after guessing it was the auto decompression sticking and played with it a little and it had stopped, pUT it back together ran mint, thought I had solved the problem. Yet when starting it up again after a oil change the noise was back again. ffs, tore it apart and took the exhaust cam out and it was sticking a little but nothing to worry about ( I thought ) I gave it a good clean out with brake cleaner and air compressor. as the decompression comes on it gets stuck half way and feels like something is grinding away in the shaft. sometimes I cant even get it to return. I can even see a edge pointing off the exit of the shaft, means it's being grinding away the insides, so something is stuck in there but how do I remove the decompresson system to clean out? cheers
  23. Anyone running a Vortex ignition on a YZ250F 2014-2018, or 450 for that matter? What advantages does it have over tuning FI/IG with the GYTR power tuner, and are there maps readily available for stock or mod and race fuel? I've messed around with the GYTR tuner on one of my bikes- 2017 YZ250F with bolt ons and VP racing fuel, but there is a lack of maps to run and I've heard there is more power to be had with the Vortex Ignition. I'm aware there are other less costly avenues to add horsepower.
  24. I just bought a 2011 YZ 250. It has a honda front end on it, triple trees, forks, brakes, and wheel I believe. Guy I bought it from said it was off of a 04-07 CR125R. They preferred the Showa forks for some reason. Anyway, I'm thinking about switching back to the KYB setup. I found a used set off of a 2007 YZ250F but I don't know if the triple clamps/trees will fit. I believe both bikes had the KYB SSS 48mm forks from the factory when they were new. Does anybody know if I could swap these?
  25. hi im trying to figure out why my 2014 yz250f wont stay running. it will start just fine but when it does start it will only idle for a few seconds then shut off. if i start it and hit the gas it will rev a little then kinda start bogging and then shut off a few seconds later. i have two 2014 yz250f's so i can swap stuff in and out between the running one and the one that does not. so far i tried putting the other tank on it and the other cdi and rectifier and still the same thing happening. the valves are in spec i checked them and i did a leak down test and everything is good in the motor so i think its something electrical or something with the fuel. any help or suggestion would be great thanks.
