  1. I have a 1974 G4TR 100 that is running really well but I'm still having a problem with it running lean. Plug is on the very light brown nearing white and I am getting a lean bog at higher rmps when loaded down. Is it not getting enough gas or is the oil pump not dumping enough oil in? I've set the oil pump to the richer side of the mark. Any suggestions would be appreciated cheers.

  3. Hey everyone, I recently bought a 1978 xl250s barn find off a buddy of mine. I've been playing with it for a month or so and need some help trying to trouble shoot what part is failing. Its got 175psi with a wiseco piston, valves are adjusted, new japan carb kit, starts and idles perfectly. But bogs down and feels like the timing is bad, tore it all apart and timing is perfect, cam is a little worn but perfectly usable. Finally got a timing gun that would work with the old girl and it isnt advancing as much as it should. It stays just behind the first line when its supposed to be between them at 3300 rpm. I tried replacing the cdi with another old one but same issue, I also replacing the advancer with another old one but still a "B" assembly same as original. Runs just as badly. Is there a way to test the cdi without fancy equipment? Or check advancer is working properly? Besides the obvious, springs feel good no obvious wear or damage. I checked resistance on pulse generator and its within honda specs but didn't have a second one to compare. This is my first motorcycle and I've always liked hondas but I need some help. I don't wanna give up on this bike but besides getting a new 78-81 cdi box from Europe the other parts are unobtainium. Other then used eBay parts which I've never has much luck with unfortunately.   4. Hey everyone! Pretty new to the forum but not very new to the motorcycle wrenching world. I recently picked up a 1978 yamaha dt175 for a pretty good deal and had it running fairly well. However, after letting it sit over night I can't get it running. Here is what I've done so far. - I pulled the carb and gave it a good cleaning, made sure all the jets were the right sizes and made sure they were clear of debris. - set the float to the correct height - New spark plug gapped to spec (getting good spark) - New fuel, fuel line, and filter (gas is flowing very well and getting gas to the cylinder) - Cleaned and oiled the air filter - Cleaned out the petcock What happens is that when I put the clean carb back on and kick it over, the bike will run for about 7 seconds and then it just bogs and dies. It doesn't matter if I have the choke out or not. After that I can't get it started until I clean the carb again. I have done this a few times and I don't think it's getting me anywhere. I had it running great the other day I was driving around town and then all of a sudden it just stopped on me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hi, First post. So I cleaned the centrifugal oil filter and while I had the crankcase cover off, I decided to inspect the clutch plates. After reassembly, the bike sounds great but will not go into gear. Neutral light is on suggesting its in neutral. Im 99% sure the plates went back in the correct order as I only had them loose for a few minutes. My one concern is that when I reinstalled there was about an inch of play (the discs inside the clutch basket) I don't remember that being there before disassembly. Thanks for any insight!
  6. Hello all! I’m Amber. I’ve been working on a project bike and finally got spark and the carburetor cleaned so it’s getting fuel. First time it’s been started in about 16 years. I need to feel the exhaust leaks I know. But it won’t run without keeping on the throttle and it’s choppy sounding. Any thoughts or next step ideas?
  7. Hello, my name is Nick. I'm a 15 year old who just traded his old, beat-up warrior 350 for a complete, non-running 1978 YZ400. I know enough to know that this is one if the best years of the YZ400. I'm going to do a complete restoration of this bike starting with the engine. It kicks over but has no compression. That being said, it is ridiculously hard to kick over and I hear a grinding sound. I just took the jug off and the piston is old and beat up but looks like it would run. The jug looks good too. The rod is not broken and the crank looks intact as well. Even with the jug off it dosent want to turn over. It looks like I can buy all the parts to rebuild the bottom end. I just dont know where to start. I know I'm gonna have to split the cases but I would like the help of all you people with more experience than me. I'm thinking the bottom end bearings are shot but what do you guys think?
  8. Hello, I recently got a 1978 yz250 from a swap meet in San Diego. The bike was $500 and is almost complete. I plan on going through the entire bike and mechanically restoring it but I want to make it my every day rider because I've fallen in love with vintage bikes. I usually ride a 2000 yz250 but it's just not cool to me. My question is, what all can I do to this bike to pull more power out of it while remaining reliable, and what chassis upgrades/mods can I do to make it perform better where I ride? (a motocross style track built in some trails by my house) I know it's never gonna outperform my newer bike but I just want to see how far I can take it while still keeping it vintage. I'm only 17 so go easy on me 😂 I'm new to this game. I know that I can port the cylinder and do head work as well as a pipe but what about boring the cylinder? Are there aftermarket reeds? What are some suspension swaps I can do? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'll upload some pics as soon as I get the bike up here to Washington. Thanks!

Hey there, I recently bought a 1979 Suzuki PE250 in pretty good condition for its age I'd say.However the fork seals are leaking and after struggling for a few days to get the fork caps open(they were seized) I have now come to a new problem. The Dust seal Holder seems to be stuck, in the shop manual it mentions some sort of special tool for removing the fork seal but I'm not sure what exactly it would do.The thing seems like it should just unscrew. I've tried whacking it with a screw driver and a hammer and I had some minor progress but its painfully slow so I was wondering if any of you vintage motorcycle wizards would be able to enlighten me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.👍
  10. i have a 1978 dt175 I have been rebuilding it for the past few months now I have one last issue air is coming out of the air intake I just bought new reed valve assembly put in new crank seals and cleaned exhaust pipes I cant find the problem..... does anyone have any advice or know maybe what the problem is?
