  1. Hi again Thumpertalk community! So I've been trying to dig up some info online because I've seen many pictures of 83-86 Honda XL600R's and it seems like NONE have this little black cylinder part that my bike has (1985 Honda XL600R). I've attached pictures of both sides of this part and it's location on the bike. I also found a manual but not for my exact model year so I'm not sure if it differs. I live in California, which is notorious for 1000% smog regulation overkill but I don't know where this bike originally came from. I'll be removing the gas tank soon for some revival maintenance, once I do, I'll try to trace all of those hoses. Anyone seen this thing before? (the one with the orange tube between the carbs and crank case)
  2. So we got my son his first bike which is a 1985 Suzuki Jr50. What can we do to make it move. He rode it one day and I already think its underpowered for him. Just need some basic ideas or some go to's on where to find some bolt on's or ideas. Anything will help. I cant seem to find some parts online. Such as exhaust, suspension, etc. Another thing, where can I find replica stickers for it? He wants to make it look brand new.
  3. I just lucked into a free, low mileage , 1985 KLR600! The bike has been sitting in a garage since 1996. I was told someone started to work on it back in the early 2000s but didn't get much further than taking off the tank and plastic and installing a new battery. The bike is great shape and is mostly complete. The only thing missing that I've seen is the petcock. I'm going to post my progress and experiences getting this bike back into ridable shape here.
  4. So I'm picking this up in the morning.... previous owner doesn't know much about it because he called it a "CBR125" but obviously that's incorrect. I've ridden Yamaha my whole life so I know nothing about it, and was curious if the kind folks at TT could help me out with some info on it. Thanks!
  5. Hey Guys, Just recently picked up a '85 CR250 and am sprucing her up. My real issue is the front brake as im having difficulty rebuilding the master cylinder and calipers. The master cylinder piston wont come out after removing the spring clip and the pistons are jammed in the caliper. At this point im pissed and im wondering if i can slap on a caliper/master cylinder from a 2000's CR/CRF. Any of you guys have any info/suggestions or am i hosed?

  7. Hi all, so I got the 1985 xr250r running finailly this week after 4 years sitting in the shed blown up. Bike went well on the first test drive, through all the gears well etc, apart from one very big problem... I had lost some parts to secure exhaust onto engine and had a carb leeking fuel...( recipe for disaster) so basically after 15 mins when I came to a stop it lit on fire ? Managed to stop the fire with only damage to the seat cover luckily. So just a few questions to ask you experienced guys since I'm only 18 and still learning, the bike was shooting flames straight out engine without exhaust, is this normal? Also where can I find the collars, nuts and bolts and the Falange things for it. The last thing I ask is the Carb was dropping a lot of fuel out overflow onto engine below, I'm guessing that the float or needle is stuck. Also it wasnt wanting to idle with no revs and would sometimes rev a bit without me touching the throdle, carb too I'm guessing? Many thanks guys and any help will be greatly appreciated 🙂 ( ive added a photo of he flames, pretty sure it's just cause of no exhaust but I'll get some opinions) thanks to all who help !!
  8. Hey everyone, new member here. I recently traded my 2001 Honda 250EX for a 1985 XR200R. The bike is tight all around and looks like it wasn't used much in its life. However, there is a noise coming from the engine that's not from the crank. It's up in the head somewhere. I adjusted the vales and started the bike up, only to hear a slightly quieter noise which led my father and I to believe that it's the Cam chain. If the bike ends up needing one, where can I find an aftermarket chain? I've checked eBay, xrsonly, and the normal part sites and I am not able to find anyone who has a chain in stock. I called my local dealer and they said they could get one for $70, but I just think that I can find it online for cheaper. It doesn't have to be OEM. Thanks
  9. Hey all So I picked up a 1985 Honda XL350R last week. Pretty fine bike all in all. When I was disassembling the fuel system to get the old gas out and clean the carb the wonderful carb insulator, manifold whatever you'd care to call it turned to dust. Did some research and found that there are none available. Nothing used or new so I figured I'd make one myself. Found grantiago's thread and figured I'd give it a try. Picked up 6 inches of aluminum tube as close to the carburator diameter as possible. Ordered some intake hoses to clamp it all together. So far I'm into this repair for $30. Cut the 6 inch length in half(ish) measured the carb angle to be about 20 degrees matched that by cutting 10 degrees off the end of each piece. Shortened them down to where I think the intake hoses will grab and leave enough room to get the carb back on the bike when the dust settles. Here's where it's at so far. Also this is by no means perfect. I whipped this rig up while I was at work for a quick fix. I wouldn't mind making a nicer version later on. To be continued when I find someone with a tig welder!
  10. I have recently came in possession of 3 1984 Honda xr dirtbike’s, 2 200’s and 1 250. The 250 has a good top end however the bottom end is no good, seized connecting rod. I was wondering if a 200r bottom end would work on a 250r top end? Any knowledge on compatible parts between the 2 bikes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
  11. I've been watching several of these old ABC Wide World of Sports races on youtube, which i highly recommend. The 1985 version comes on and in the first heat Ricky Graham is on a 1985 XR600R. He gets the holeshot and leads several laps. Not sure what factory Honda did to his bike but it looks bad fast. There are big bore 2 strokes in this heat and the final and he pulls them on the straights but they get him in the dirt sections. Race starts about 3:30
  12. Hey all - dug my old YTZ (tri-zinger) out of it's cave. Been there since early 90's! Can ya still get engine parts for these, looking for a couple of websites? gonna try to get it fired up again, thanks for any info.
  13. I recently purchased a 1985 kx250 however the bike is missing the silencer... was wondering what years/models of the kx would fit on my 85? Would a 85 kx500 silencer fit? Would a 1987 250 silencer fit? Etc... thanks for any info!
  14. contact me if you're interested.
  15. Anyways so I got a 1985 xr200r RFVC, and I have heard that the oil really overheats and in some cases people have had their bike (Rarely) go up in flames, however I don't want to take any chances and I heard that there is a way to put on some sort of oil cooler... How do I do it??
