  1. My friend bought this 1986 trx250r and it doesn’t want to start. Rebuilt the carb, cleaned the carb, brand new cylinder and all sorts of other things.. we tried bump starting it and nothing, we have checked to see if the spark plug is getting spark and it wasn’t. Today when he opened this up he seen this. He thinks he needs a new stator but personally we’re new to atv’s and dirtbikes and could use a little bit of your knowledge. What do you guys think? - the bike is bored out I think it’s bored to 310 but I’m not too sure
  2. So I recently acquired this 1986 xr600r in non-running condition on the good ol' craigslist. I managed to get it running (it helps when a decade's worth of varnish is cleaned from the carbs) and she purrs like a kitten. It's titled and street legal here in Washington. I'm just trying to pin down a fair value for the bike, so any input or comment is appreciated. Thanks.
  3. I’m new here. im doing a build on my 86 cr250 and I was wanting to shave the head for more compression. I was thinking, would it work just to put the head on the cylinder without the gasket and keep shaving it till it touches the piston, and then put the gasket on? What are your thoughts?
  4. I am asking for help with my husband's bike. He will be in Mexico for work and I would love to completely redo his bike as a surprise when he comes home. I am hopeless on dirt bike knowledge though and really don't know where to start. The bike in question is a 1986 RM125 2-stroke that is in great driving condition. No problems except he wants to add a silencer since the neighbors get pissed when he starts it up. Basically, I just want to make it pretty and run like a mother &%$#@!er. We are talking new body, new shiny chrome parts, tires and rims. I'm open to any suggestions and feel free to dumb down the lingo; I have no clue what the hell most parts on this are called. I don't even know where to start and any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Hello, I'm in need of a bit of help with my 1986 cr250r forks I'm trying to rebuild. I've taken off the fork seals and the rings that go after them. I've unbolted the drain, the top spring cap, and the dampening rod bolt at the bottom. Can someone please tell me what else I am missing to take them all apart?
  6. Hello all, I'm the proud new owner of a very clean 1986 Yamaha TT350S. I've been going through the bike making sure everything is working. I cleaned the two carbs and made sure there was enough oil. It rides great and I'm excited to get it on the road soon! I have been having some issues with the lighting. The headlight bulb was blown out so I found another one on eBay. The taillight doesn't work and I've spent a stupid amount of time trying to figure out how to get it to work (seems simple but I can't get it to work!!). I replaced the bulb with a new 1157 12v bulb that I got at Oreillys. The bulb fits the assembly but doesn't work. I measured a couple volts off the blue and yellow wires that lead to the light. The ground seems good. Not sure how to check the switch next to the rear brake but it looked good inside to me. I'm at my wits end here with this, what should be, simple fix. Any tips or help would be much appreciated!
  7. Hi i'm new to the community and i'm having a lot of trouble with getting spark on my recently purchased 1986 xr250r. I've been trying to get spark for a while now I bought a new ignition coil and cdi box but nothing seems to make a difference. The problem is that when the CDI box is grounded to the frame or engine all of the volts go strait to ground, and nothing comes out of the CDI box to the ignition coil. When the ground is detached I get power through the ignition coil but not enough for spark. I've disconnected everything except the components used to get spark, no kill switch, no lights. The bike was converted to be road legal.   8. Hey all So I picked up a 1985 Honda XL350R last week. Pretty fine bike all in all. When I was disassembling the fuel system to get the old gas out and clean the carb the wonderful carb insulator, manifold whatever you'd care to call it turned to dust. Did some research and found that there are none available. Nothing used or new so I figured I'd make one myself. Found grantiago's thread and figured I'd give it a try. Picked up 6 inches of aluminum tube as close to the carburator diameter as possible. Ordered some intake hoses to clamp it all together. So far I'm into this repair for $30. Cut the 6 inch length in half(ish) measured the carb angle to be about 20 degrees matched that by cutting 10 degrees off the end of each piece. Shortened them down to where I think the intake hoses will grab and leave enough room to get the carb back on the bike when the dust settles. Here's where it's at so far. Also this is by no means perfect. I whipped this rig up while I was at work for a quick fix. I wouldn't mind making a nicer version later on. To be continued when I find someone with a tig welder!
  9. Where should I start with the main and low speed jets for the 1986 KDX 200 at 1500 foot elevation (486 meters for all the youngsters) in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
  10. Hey everyone I have seen y'all help out poor souls time after time with wonderful advice and finally I'm asking for a xr Jedi. I bought a 1986 xr250r, not running. The kid said it ran a few weeks ago then it stopped.... yea.. anyways he ran the sucker with little amount of oil and dryed the cam. Looked like some one thought to was corn on the cob. Replaced that and inspected the rest of the top end. Everything else is tolerable and works. I couldn't get spark so I replaced wiring harness with a used one looks better than the one I had. Also replaced the ignition coil, the CDI, and the third little box that is next to the CDI, lost for the name, still won't start but I have spark. It's not bright but it's there every time. I've cleaned and set the carb back to factory recommendations. Anything else I can do?

So I just bought a 1986 kx 80 and it only has 17 hours on the top end and wasn’t back firing when I first got it it just seemed like the carb was gunked up the way it was hitting the powerband but I figured that because the guy I got it from had a 220 size main jet in the carb for winter riding so I just recently put a 160 size main jet and cleaned the carb to see if that was the problem when I start the bike I can rev it up and it will not back fire until it starts to hit the powerband and I know it is not the fuel mixture or spark plug because I measure the oil and I just changed the spark plug. Could it possibly be old gas or the reeds? If you guys know what you think it is please let me know.
  12. Hey guys! My name is Andrew and I'm new here from Northwest WI and just got an early Christmas present. My boss had an old CR500 in his dad's barn in WA that nobody could get working. I ended up getting it from him for free for a favor. Flew out to WA for work, bought a 2001 F350 7.3l dually (rust free unlike stuff from WI), threw the bike in the back, and drug it home to WI. My plan is to completely restore it (with small modifications) this winter. I've already started making progress and will add more as I get time. Just wanted to start a project thread so you guys can motivate me to finish it!
  13. Hello all. Need a helping hand here.. I bought an older TT225 and am not about to spend almost $600 on a new carburetor for it. So I'm hoping someone can help me out with an idea of what (other than original carburetor) style, type and brand I should go with.. I'm also having a bit of trouble finding info on this bike. It's a 1986 Yamaha TT225. Thank you in advanced Charles
