  1. Hey guys, I bought my 1987 rm125 (1985 rm125 motor) a while ago and I want to run the vin since I only bought it with a bill of sale. First off I'd like to ask where the vin even is. There's a number on the engine and that's all I've found. That number gets me nowhere when I run it through a vin website. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  3. Hey all, I have been waiting for this day for quite a while. I am finally able to fix my bike, i've been in debt for some time but the day has come Now i have a question, when I got my bike checked out at the shop, i was told i could rebuild my crank with any rod and bearings from 1986-2000. I am going to purchase an entire new hot rods crank instead. Am i able to order any crank from 1986-2000 for my bike? Mine is a 1987. I just want to make sure I am getting the correct part before I spend the money! Appreciate any replies or help. Thanks!!
  4. Hey guys, New here and I tried finding the answer to this before resorting to posting, but here I am. I've got a 87 Honda XL600R that has been in my family for awhile. New oil change as of today, Ricky stator put in by my uncle a while back, newer cdi/ignition coil/spark plugs for how much I ride it, and a newer-ish bike master battery(has been sitting over winter, not on a trickle charger, I know,, smite me). It starts up like most other xl600rs, a real pain in the ass, but she starts and rides fine. An issue I've noticed is with the neutral light and turn signals. Neutral light doesn't show up with the key in the ignition turned on to the on position, which it should, but lights up when the bike is running. The blinkers are the biggest issue right now though. When riding, I'll flick either one on and the same thing happens. They hesitate to come on for about 2 seconds and then when they do, they are mostly solid with no blinking. When I come to a stop at a stop light or stop sign, if I pull in the hand brake, they start to blink. Anyone got any ideas for me or ever had this issue before? Obviously could be the battery, bulbs, fuses, wiring, or some other bit, but being a broke college student, ideally I would like to minimize costs and could use some help in directing me to the primary culprit first and from there working my way down.   5. This replaces the tube that connects the two carbs on a 1987 Honda XR600R (it may fit other years). Made in the USA. Constructed of TPU (solvent safe plastic.) Its durable stiff abrasion resistant yet flexible enough you never have to worry about breaking it when you're taking apart your carbs.   6. So today was a fairly productive day. After I got off work I went to the local Lowes and picked up a socket set and a few box wrenches to see if anything was loose on the bike. There was a lot of bolts loose and i found some that were stripped out in the engine cover... How bad is this? I bought the bike for 1000$ off of craigslist and am begining to think i may have gotten jipped, none the less looked at the air filter it looked clean and did have some oil in it. How much oil should the filter have in it? Should it be soaked or just enough to coat the whole filter? I also mixed my first tank of gas today 1 gallon of 93 to 3 oz oil, seemed to run good. The exhaust did not smoke as bad as it did before might be because of fresh gas? But one thing that scares me is that once the bike is put into gear from me holding the throttle at an idle it sometimes dies. But after it is put into gear its a 50/50 shot of getting the bike back into neutral sometimes it goes right back into neutral it took me probably 5 min at one point after stalling to find neutral again. Any words of wisdom or possible solutions are greatly appreciated.But after finding netural again i was able to feel out the clutch a little bit and was able to ride A WHOLE 15 FEET haha This was the first time i have ever made a dirt bike or any other vehicle with a clutch move and I could not be more excited. Something so small as to learning to feel for the bike for all 15 of those feet was super cool probably the highlight of my year so far.   8. I bought a Honda 1987 CR80 to do as a project a while back. It's now fully rebuilt. I have an issue where it just won't rev up. As soon as I put it in gear it just wants to bog and die. However it does not bog in neutral, and once the revs pick up and hits the power band, it goes like a rocket. Wondering if anyone knows why it bogs out. I can't creep forwards with the bike, it just dies. I have to take off with full throttle. Update: it's bogs at idle now and the bike just died and won't start
  9. I am looking for a complete engine for my 1987 yz80 and would like to put a yz80 back into it. What years will mount up without modifications? Where can i find one? I would love to get it running for my little brother so anything helps! Thanks
  10. So heres the issue, i have replaced the seals multiple times for the water pump however still get a leak out of the weep hole. Over time it goes into the oil side. I think ive found the issue but dont know how to fix it. There is grooves on the ‘water pump shaft’. To which most would say replace it, its not as easy as that, the shaft is directly connected to the crankshaft so my question is, can i fix these grooves without replacing the crankshaft and thus spliting the case?

  12. Hello everybody. My 1987 XR600R is having a slight issue with not wanting to start once it has run a while. It also doesn't really like to idle once it is hot. I make sure it has enough oil in it every time I ride it. I really love this bike even though I haven't had it a while so I would really like to get it to run well for me. I know these twin carbs have an adjustment for the opening of them but I don't know how to mess with that to try to fix it. Any information would be helpful.
  13. I noticed a persistent knocking sound thats gotten louder over the past couple months on my YZ80. I have a video here so you can hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2R8Hfj1Klw I replaced the ring back in march, that was the last time I tore down the top end. While it was a part I checked the rod for play and there wasn't anything I noticed that was out of spec. Is this a warrant to tear down the bottom end?
  14. I'm having a perplexing issue with my stock 1987 xr200r all of a sudden. Had it out on a ride a few days ago and all was fine. Took it back out a day later and now when I climb a hill and roll the throttle on it falls flat the closer I get to full throttle. Sometimes it stumbles then catches up, other times it will miss until I back the throttle off or down shift. I checked all the usual suspects: spark - new plug, cleaned out carb, cleaned air filter, checked for intake/exhaust obstructions. I also swapped out the ignition coil with another one, but still have the symptoms.I ran the static test on the stator and it is within specs, but so was the one on my xl600 that turned out to be bad anyway. I should also mention my valves are adjusted and I had a tan spark plug. Any ideas???

  16. Recently picked up a 1987 xr200r in pretty good condition, all stock. The carb was all gummed up and running real rich, and the previous owner removed the baffle and end cap from the exhaust, but left the air box top chute in place. I cleaned up the carb and verified all stock jetting, needle position, air screw, etc. Where we live the quieter the better for off-roading so I ordered a new baffle and end cap, but did ride the bike for a week before the parts arrived. With the muffler parts out I had a brown plug and plenty of power throughout the entire throttle range. Got the muffler parts, installed them and now the bike falls flat while climbing hills and gradually rolling on the throttle, I get a burble at low speed sometimes and I have a black sooty plug. I'm kind of at a loss on this one. I realize that the parts restricted the exhaust....but it's basically back to stock and I've had these bikes stock before and they ran fine. Seeing as I have all stock jets and am getting a sooty plug, I'm wondering if electrics are weak? I also tried adjusting the air screw in/out and moving the needle clip to position 2, either of the two made my problem worse. Any ideas?

  18. Trying to repost again and hoping for better luck. Has anyone sourced accurate 1987 decals before. I friend loaned me his low mileage 1987 for a weekend trip when I was home visiting my dad, and they got a little scuffed. Normally not a big deal, but he's into the whole vintage thing and didn't tell me that.....before he lent me the bike for a 50/50 dirt trip that was three days long. I can't find any in existence, so I'm asking for help with the specs on the stickers, and maybe a recommendation on a trusted auto/mc decal guy who can color match and die cut well. thanks, john
