  1. Hey all, I have been waiting for this day for quite a while. I am finally able to fix my bike, i've been in debt for some time but the day has come 🙂 Now i have a question, when I got my bike checked out at the shop, i was told i could rebuild my crank with any rod and bearings from 1986-2000. I am going to purchase an entire new hot rods crank instead. Am i able to order any crank from 1986-2000 for my bike? Mine is a 1987. I just want to make sure I am getting the correct part before I spend the money! Appreciate any replies or help. Thanks!!
  2. Hey guys, I bought my 1987 rm125 (1985 rm125 motor) a while ago and I want to run the vin since I only bought it with a bill of sale. First off I'd like to ask where the vin even is. There's a number on the engine and that's all I've found. That number gets me nowhere when I run it through a vin website. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  3. I have a YZ250 1987. I just got new pistons and stuff. If anyone know whats the torque specs are let me know.
  4. So. I picked up a 1987 xl600r. With 5500 mi on it. Barely running.. Found very weak spark, valves out of adjustment. Control cables sticking ect. This will be probably the 9th honda I've owned, last one was a 2002 xr650 with a Baha kit, i like to ride Red / Honda. Found low ohms on the exciter coil and as i was tring to ride & test this beast the ohms dropped from 218. To. 182 making it unable to stay running. So on to the Internet i went, finding common problems know on these older monsters. !! Ordered new stator and cdi box this corrected the spark problem, next was the fuel system, having already inspected and cleaned both carbs making no changes i was off to see how it was gona run ?? ""WOW"" it has a built in governor it seems no quick responce to throttle. Plug is white'sh and it is very lean running..... This is where the fun starts ,, i live in Cali a CARB state, i need to get different jets for the twin carbs but cant buy cuz they wont ship to Calif. Two diff places. I tried Dynajet and JDjetting --- what can i do now ?? Want to keep bike stock but can't ride it much in the state of "way lean " condition its killing the bike. & hurts just thinkin. About wanting to ride it now. Pls help me. With poss options dont want to go fuel injection upgrade just yet.. Thanks TT in advance.

  6. Rode my 1987 XR600R this weekend for the first time after getting everything dialed in. Bought from original owner about a month ago. Spent a month getting it all ready. I can't believe how much more power this has than my 400. Roll on wheelies in 2nd and 3rd gear. I climbed a lot of hills and i could not believe the acceleration up the hills, most of the way on the back wheel. The twin carbs are jetted perfectly with new Keihin jets and genuine Honda carb rebuild kits. Instant throttle response. (I was afraid of the dual carbs at first but they are extremely simple.) The dual carbs seem like the perfect configuration. Starting, idle, throttle response of a small carb, yet make huge power when you twist the throttle. I've had my 400 for almost 20 years. It has opened airbox, Mikuni pumper, after market exhaust, header welds ground, runs great, but it is no comparison to the 600. I'm 6'2" 210, the extra power is a lot of fun. I ride wide open spaces, very little single track. I wasn't looking for a 600, but ran across this for less than a grand and couldn't pass it up. So glad i didn't.
  7. This replaces the tube that connects the two carbs on a 1987 Honda XR600R (it may fit other years). Made in the USA. Constructed of TPU (solvent safe plastic.) Its durable stiff abrasion resistant yet flexible enough you never have to worry about breaking it when you're taking apart your carbs. Fits the o-ring perfectly and slips into the carb nice and tight. Matches the rear shock coil. length is Aprox. 34mm If you would like to buy one contact me via e-mail. They cost $40 Shipping is free (anywhere in the USA). $10 off for active duty or retired military. Cjmrizek@gmail.com Make your subject: XR600r
  8. I’m just finishing up going through my new to me 1987 XR600R. Looking forward to riding next weekend. One of my last tasks today is changing the oil and inspecting the downtube screen. This is a low hour bike I bought from original owner. There were no wrench marks on the flexible oil line or the screen fitting. Screen only had 2 tiny pieces of gray RTV substance. No evidence of metal. I put a new o ring on it and reinstalled. I fit the hose back on and tightened down. I used a second open end wrench on the nut fitting on the hose itself to keep it in place while tightening the fitting. When I look at the hose it feels like it has a little bit of a kink. Is this something I should worry about? Is there pressure going through this line that this could impede flow? It doesn’t look or feel kinked off but is definitely not round to the feel. Almost like the hose is a couple mm too long. I loosened and adjusted around a couple different times to get it in the best spot. What do you think? Thanks.
  9. The previous owner routed the throttle cables down the right side of the bike. When i look at old brochure pictures online i see the cables running on the left side of the steering head and through the big wire hoop, along with the clutch cable. With the dual carb, the cable mounts are angled towards the right side. So if i bring them down the left side of the bike through the big cable hoop, there's a pretty tight bend to mount them on the carbs and the throttle twist isn't smooth and easy. If i try to cross them under the frame on top of the engine to the right side for the best alignment to the carb mounts, the cables bind up when i turn the bars full lock right and the throttle sticks as they are not long enough. Am i doing something wrong, or possibly at some point the previous owner put shorter cables on the bike?
  10. Update to my thread a few weeks ago here where I was concerned that my flexible oil supply line from the downtube to the engine appeared kinked and was restricting flow. I bought an XR650L supply line that is a hard line bend out of the downtube screen fitting. I also had to swap the metal plate that holds the lines in the engine. To get a perfect, non-stressed fit, I had to bend the hard line on the engine side about 1/4” up. There was plenty of tubing to be able to do that without issue. When test fit I pulled back off and took a picture, see below. I also blew through both and I could feel a tiny bit more resistance on my old line, but not much. It’s piece of mind now that I have a hard line in there and no chance for a kink. The new line is on the left along with the new plate which is circled.
  11. I feel like this every time I go in the garage and see my 87 dual carb on the stand, primed and ready to go.
  12. I bought a Honda 1987 CR80 to do as a project a while back. It's now fully rebuilt. I have an issue where it just won't rev up. As soon as I put it in gear it just wants to bog and die. However it does not bog in neutral, and once the revs pick up and hits the power band, it goes like a rocket. Wondering if anyone knows why it bogs out. I can't creep forwards with the bike, it just dies. I have to take off with full throttle. Update: it's bogs at idle now and the bike just died and won't start
  13. Hey guys, New here and I tried finding the answer to this before resorting to posting, but here I am. I've got a 87 Honda XL600R that has been in my family for awhile. New oil change as of today, Ricky stator put in by my uncle a while back, newer cdi/ignition coil/spark plugs for how much I ride it, and a newer-ish bike master battery(has been sitting over winter, not on a trickle charger, I know,, smite me). It starts up like most other xl600rs, a real pain in the ass, but she starts and rides fine. An issue I've noticed is with the neutral light and turn signals. Neutral light doesn't show up with the key in the ignition turned on to the on position, which it should, but lights up when the bike is running. The blinkers are the biggest issue right now though. When riding, I'll flick either one on and the same thing happens. They hesitate to come on for about 2 seconds and then when they do, they are mostly solid with no blinking. When I come to a stop at a stop light or stop sign, if I pull in the hand brake, they start to blink. Anyone got any ideas for me or ever had this issue before? Obviously could be the battery, bulbs, fuses, wiring, or some other bit, but being a broke college student, ideally I would like to minimize costs and could use some help in directing me to the primary culprit first and from there working my way down. Thanks in advance! -Sheetsy
  14. So today was a fairly productive day. After I got off work I went to the local Lowes and picked up a socket set and a few box wrenches to see if anything was loose on the bike. There was a lot of bolts loose and i found some that were stripped out in the engine cover... How bad is this? I bought the bike for 1000$ off of craigslist and am begining to think i may have gotten jipped, none the less looked at the air filter it looked clean and did have some oil in it. How much oil should the filter have in it? Should it be soaked or just enough to coat the whole filter? I also mixed my first tank of gas today 1 gallon of 93 to 3 oz oil, seemed to run good. The exhaust did not smoke as bad as it did before might be because of fresh gas? But one thing that scares me is that once the bike is put into gear from me holding the throttle at an idle it sometimes dies. But after it is put into gear its a 50/50 shot of getting the bike back into neutral sometimes it goes right back into neutral it took me probably 5 min at one point after stalling to find neutral again. Any words of wisdom or possible solutions are greatly appreciated. But after finding netural again i was able to feel out the clutch a little bit and was able to ride A WHOLE 15 FEET haha This was the first time i have ever made a dirt bike or any other vehicle with a clutch move and I could not be more excited. Something so small as to learning to feel for the bike for all 15 of those feet was super cool probably the highlight of my year so far. Thank You to all of you that have left me comments I have read everyone and truly appreciate the overwhelming kindness help and motivation from all that have helped me out.👍 Be safe. God bless

  16. Hello, please could anyone help me with 1987 kx front fork rebuild? For example post some pics of disassembled fork...I know that I have to take out the big bottom screw but it is totaly rusted, any ideas? thanks
  17. I am looking for a complete engine for my 1987 yz80 and would like to put a yz80 back into it. What years will mount up without modifications? Where can i find one? I would love to get it running for my little brother so anything helps! Thanks
  18. So heres the issue, i have replaced the seals multiple times for the water pump however still get a leak out of the weep hole. Over time it goes into the oil side. I think ive found the issue but dont know how to fix it. There is grooves on the ‘water pump shaft’. To which most would say replace it, its not as easy as that, the shaft is directly connected to the crankshaft so my question is, can i fix these grooves without replacing the crankshaft and thus spliting the case?
  19. Hello everybody. My 1987 XR600R is having a slight issue with not wanting to start once it has run a while. It also doesn't really like to idle once it is hot. I make sure it has enough oil in it every time I ride it. I really love this bike even though I haven't had it a while so I would really like to get it to run well for me. I know these twin carbs have an adjustment for the opening of them but I don't know how to mess with that to try to fix it. Any information would be helpful.
  20. Where should I start with the main and low speed jets for the 1986 KDX 200 at 1500 foot elevation (486 meters for all the youngsters) in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
  21. I noticed a persistent knocking sound thats gotten louder over the past couple months on my YZ80. I have a video here so you can hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2R8Hfj1Klw I replaced the ring back in march, that was the last time I tore down the top end. While it was a part I checked the rod for play and there wasn't anything I noticed that was out of spec. Is this a warrant to tear down the bottom end?
  22. Anyone know of any companies that make replica plastics for old dirt bikes - specifically a 1987 Yamaha TT 225? I'm completely frame off restoring mine and though my plastics are somewhat salvageable, I'd love to get a brand new replica set if anyone knows of any kits out there.
  23. Ok so here goes... (See pics and feel free to comment on what you see or think.... Any help is good...) I have my work cut out for me. I have never done more than maint. and minor repairs to bikes.... Today I started some disassembly and found trans oil was gray with some metal flake in it... The radiators are beyond repair. The trashed piston is off now... I got the chain off, rear wheel off and cleaned up and filled with air (20psi), will check it tomorrow to see if holding air or do i have to take apart and patch (wheel bearings feel good, so will just do seals), rear brake caliper needs once over, also master cyl., Needs new pads I think I can save rotor... Sprockets seem shot. Not sure how to tell if chain is still good THERE SEEMS TO BE WATER IN THE BOTTOM END???? so gonna disassemble far enough to get engine out to try and lessen any damage.. I have case splitter, fly puller, fly holder, crank puller. There seems to be NO spark I am guessing stator is wet and trash... Game plan is to clean out and protect engine inners with assembly oil or just a coat of 2 stroke... until I am ready to rebuild.... Also found some play in the swing arm so will have to do the swing arm linkage/ bearing kit... Pretty productive day.... Oh yeah I found a copy of the CLYMER manual and it shipped out today.
  24. I'm having a perplexing issue with my stock 1987 xr200r all of a sudden. Had it out on a ride a few days ago and all was fine. Took it back out a day later and now when I climb a hill and roll the throttle on it falls flat the closer I get to full throttle. Sometimes it stumbles then catches up, other times it will miss until I back the throttle off or down shift. I checked all the usual suspects: spark - new plug, cleaned out carb, cleaned air filter, checked for intake/exhaust obstructions. I also swapped out the ignition coil with another one, but still have the symptoms.I ran the static test on the stator and it is within specs, but so was the one on my xl600 that turned out to be bad anyway. I should also mention my valves are adjusted and I had a tan spark plug. Any ideas???
  25. The stator cover for my 87 xl600r is damaged. Any ideas where I could find a replacement or get mine fixed? Thanks.
