  1. I have a 1990 Suzuki 250 RMX I have just got done with a rebuild after sitting for 2years. i have replaced the stator and ignition coil. the problem this still stumps me I can turn the bike over with a drill and I get a 1/4 inch blue spark but if I try to kick it I get nothing even holding the wire with bare hands . The only thing i haven't replaced is the cdi box and wiring harness from what i can gather either the stator is out of time, bad wires ,or cdi box hopefully someone knows more than me i would rather not drop the almost $500 on a new cdi if that isn't the problem. Hopefully i cant get the info i need thanks
  2. Anyone know what this could be? I JUST DID A CLUTCH ON MY YZ250.Now its giving me trouble to pull the clutch in.i checked the cable and the lever adjustment.Neither of those are an issue. The part that goes into the engine, that the cable hooks into is super stiff and almost wont move. As for the clutch I know I put it in right because if I manually move the clutch it works then it's just really really hard to move so anybody got any ideas for me I don't really have anybody to call or anything. I'm stumped.
  3. I rebuilt the top end everything runs fine but when i bit bumps or have a low rpm pull its rattles almost like chain slap . I just replaced the chain and didn't change and if i kill the engine and roll over bumps it still does the same thing. I have also checked that the power valve adjusting spring is good and adjusted right and nothing i am lost at this point. it also has brand new reeds. it sat for 2 years before rebuild.
  4. I have a 1990 cr80 2 smoker. I recently rebuilt the top end with a vertex racing piston and ring. I measured my clylinder and checked for any scaring or scraps and found nun. Cylinder wall looked and felt solid.. I installed everything correctly. Rings in the notch, piston is forward. Wrist pins and all that’s stuff is in there snug. I also installed new outlaw racing gasket for the top and bottom end. just bought a new carb, air filter, Cdi, grips, cables, stator, spark plug, ignition coil. Levers. New oil, 32:1 mix gas and new coolant. it has fairly low compression and I checked my bolts yesterday. Loosened all the top end bolts. Re sealed it the right way with the star patterns. All Dow to 21 and 18 ft pounds. It has better compression and before I re sealed the top end we got it to run for like 5-10 seconds. old carb was flooding my engine and the new carb doesn’t do that. Checked reeds, ect. They look new. It still won’t run and I don’t know why please help me!!!
  5. Hello i am in search of a 1990- 1997 cr125 main shaft, countershaft, shift drum, and shift forks please message me if you have them or get to me with you contact information thank you
  6. Hello everyone, first post, glad to be here. So I bought a cheap 1990 CR250R that had a cracked case (someone ran a loose chain without a case protector). Long story short, engine is back together and ready to go back in the bike.... however... one weird thing came up during the rebuild. It seems that the bike has a 9 disk clutch basket in it. Tryed stacking only 8 (as the manual intructed) and no go, clutch slipped when everything was buttoned up (like easily by hand). My question is this, where did this clutch come from? (It looks like the stock clutch exactly aside from the # of disks) Was there an old school modification that used a different clutch assembly? Does the stock clutch have a habit of slipping? So many questions, hope yall can help answer some of them. Thanks in advance! Ian
  7. Hello everyone I am new to this forum so hope I get some answers. So I picked up a 1990 cr250r. When I picked it up the guy said he broke the choke lever and it was missing so no big deal just bought another. I put it in and screwed the all the way in and turned it out 4 turns for a starting idle point. On them, the choke lever also serves as the idle screw. So I got it in and we fired it up with no air filter just to see if it would run. And it did but it would start to rev up so I put my hands over the air filter housing and it started to idle down (so that to my knowledge tells me there are no cracks in any of the boots) then took them back off and it idled up again. We blipped it to powerband quick then it idled down some but then ran away and we had to pull the spark plug wire off to shut it down. I didn't have the tank hooked up just had the line and bowl filled. So I'm stuck on what to do is there something missing in the carb or should I put it all back together but I don't think that would make it idle down that much. If anyone has any idea on what to do please help me officially stumped.
  8. Hi all, so I recently was gifted a 1990 DR350S and it was in pretty mint shape from PO less than 4k and change on the clock, but he did a hack job on adding in led lights and, he was not great at jumpering things to bypass the side stand switch. I have recently added a new large capacity fuel cell, non vacuum petcock the Yamaha 660 raptor model specific as suggested by people. Now it was running great when I managed to get it kicked over last fall, now it acts like it don't wanna pop over at all. And I've replaced the OEM ignition coil and a new plug with new motobatt, had to go through the wiring on it and well I'm not a electrical genius. But when things are held together with tape and wire caps not a factory job at all. So I got a diagram spent 14hrs on it on two occasions now. I am at whits end, not about to give up cause I love the bike dearly. But I need to locate a new or used harness for a 90 DR350S I'm not rich but I k now these things can be somewhat expensive. And during a pandemic lockdown I would rather be in the woods riding than sitting looking at a wall all the time. So could anyone please shed some light on this or by chance have or know of where I can get a main harness. it's the kicker model with batt and no electric starter. Has all the controls and modules just need the wire harness that brings these lovelies together. Please help I love my bike and want her to live again but I am dyslexic so bare with me.
  9. I have a 1990 rmx 250 just rebuild after setting . I noticed it has a fork seal leak now. And also now I have a knock or rattle when hitting small bumps wondering if low fluid can cause the spring to rattle or maybe something is broken .
  10. Hey guys, I am really needing some good advice here from anybody who has ever owned or rebuilt classic Yamaha 2 strokes (1989 - 1994). I live in South Africa, and bought a little farm thumper while on holiday this past weekend. It was advertised as a DT175 which is a bike that is easy to get parts for down here. It has been cosmetically customized and looks pretty darn cool... and lets face it, all the old classic Yamaha 2T engines look the same at a glance! So I genuinely thought it was a naked DT. The bike had no papers, and was used purely for the farmer to putt around on his farm. The only things needing attention was the stator cover which had snapped in half - this was visibly noticeable, and a little leak from a badly resealed gasket (both generally easy and cheap to fix here). The bike was still running and idling fine, started first kick, and I had a little ride around the farm before loading the bike up onto my pickup and heading off, thinking I could fix this thing up nicely in no time for next to nothing, and have what we call down in SA "a nuwe speelgoed" (A new plaything) for the weekends when I am not riding my beloved and reliable DRZ400SM. SO, I get home and decide to contact our local Yamaha branch, out of interest, to find out the history of the bike before I start fiddling (Don't ask me why I did not do this all before I bought the bike - It was a spur of the moment purchase, and was sold to me for dirt cheap!). I send off the VIN and engine number. Comes back, and this little freakin' turd turns out to be a 1989 TDR180!! WHAT. But now I am stuck as we do not really have TDR's down here - and I have never even seen one myself. Long story short - What alternative could I use as a stator cover? Do any other old Yamaha 2T model stator covers fit the TDR or share similar engine parts? Ordering from Ebay is so expensive thanks to my country being in junk status due to a junk president. So the shipping costs more than the actual item does, and our customs is a joke too. Yamaha has also advised me that this stator cover has been discontinued. I have put up local ads looking for parts, contacted FB 2T groups, and local shops. Nothing for TDR's has come back yet. Any advice or sharing of experience is welcome! 🙂
  11. so i have a 1990 yz80 and it wont kick start when it is cold so i have to bump start it but when it is warm it kick starts first or second kick. It will bump start the first push but no kick starting. CAN YOU HELP ME!
  12. I have a 1990 yz 250 that just stopped running. Can bump start and get a few revs, then dies. Cleaned carb, checked gas and spark. Can’t tell if perhaps spark is weak? Would like to check electrics but not clear on procedure or resistance readings for the model bike. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
  13. Hello, I can't find a fitting radiator for my kawasaki KX 80 from 1990. Could I just buy one made for another bike, for example a Suzuki RM 80 of Honda cr 80. Or maybe just one of simular size? Thanks in advance.

  17. Hi, here goes my first thread as well as my first post on here! Name is Matt. Been a reader for quite a while and have learned a ton from these forums. Anyways, i'm 24, and have liked motocross bikes since I was 6, my uncle was an mx rider here in the northeastern ohio and shoot mainly all over ohio (greg urban, 803, rode hondas say something if you know him lol) but ever since I was a young gun i was in love with bikes but never had one of my own, just a 90cc dinli 2 stroke quad my gramps got me in mansfield on the farm when i was about 12, lol! That thing and that farm are long gone, they didnt pay taxes and ended up gettin screwed for it, lost everything, all the toys, boats, quads, golf carts, had to sell it and move to somewhere much more affordable. My family isnt the smartest but theyre pretty cool. ANYWAYS. I am 24 now and just recently had the chance to grab a bike to work on, ive spent my live doing other things like skateboarding, going to school, working full time, moving in with a girl etc. So I just found a 1990 yz125 on offerup for 200 bucks. I was dead broke at the time paying court costs n whatnot but I pulled together 100 bucks and made a deal with the guy to pay him 50 a week for the rest, since I had practically nothing and had literally just started a new job. So he was down and we met up and I got the bike. (QUESTION: Can i post any sort of htm image codes so I can post these pics throughought the thread? Cause if so im gonna edit the heck out of this thread and make it way more organized.) I brought her home. The reason it was so cheap is because the crankshaft was seized. The piston is in good condition, the cyclinder as well, no scratching or chipping, leading me to believe the issue could be in the main crank bearing. The guy I bought it off of has been in close contact, i see him once a week or so and we talk bikes and about the parts i'll need and whatnot. So my next step is to grab my next paycheck, finish paying him and bring the engine back over, split it open with him, and see if its just the bearing or whole crank assembly. Either way, pretty stoked about the deal, and the piston and cylinder being in such great shape. Im gonna attatch the pics of the bike and the engine! The cylinder head is taken off as well as the pipe and kickstart but here she is. Any input is appreciated! This is my FIRST bike and if anyone has any pointers about working on 2 strokes this old, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks yall Also if anyone notices anything that I am not saying, please do say something! Or if there is anything super critical to check. I plan om getting a manual when I find one and literally checking every single thing that can be loosened and tightened on it. Matt
