  1. Unfortunately today I messed up my 1995 650l, I bought some engine degreaser and some wire scrubbers at advanced auto. When I came back I stupidly powerwashed my bike and degreased it like an ape trying to get it to look good as new. I didn't cover the exhaust or carb or battery or anything. Probably an idiotic thing to do but it is my first bike (first couple days with it) and I am learning. I also added some 10w-40 castrol motor oil to top it off cause I saw it had a small leak and the oil was half of full. Anyway, when I started the bike smoke or probably steam came off the front of the bike I took it around the block it felt sluggish. I let it sit and it died. I tried to start it with the choke but it only would fire up a small amount before dying. Now it wont start at all and before I washed it it fired up no problem. The lights come on and the engine turns over fine so Idk if it electrical or not. What should I do? Could it be the oil? Did I cause a short? Do I have to take off the carb and dry it out? Is it the spark plug? Battery? Any advice on where I should look would be very appreciated, please be kind its my first post and like I said i am a newbie.
  2. Hi all! I've got an issue, one of many when it comes to bikes. I searched throughout all the pages I could find pertaining to my situation and couldn't find very much useful information. So the issue is, the bike has no electric start.... until it's hot enough to melt steel that is. It will bump start first time every time. But I can sit and crank the starter over for ever and it'll never start until the charger is bumped up past 200 amps. Not good. The story so far, Got the bike for 1k cash. Guy said it has no spark and no second gear. This particular guy also only ever rode newer crotch rockets. Brought it home pulled the choke, attached battery charger and she fired right up. Ran like absolute crap, but oh well I figure it's an older bike with only 10k miles so it probably needs a good carb cleaning. Took the carb apart and didn't know I messed something up until way later(didn't tighten down main jet). Oh well she runs well enough if I can get her started. Moved from California to Oklahoma. Eventually found the money to fix 2nd gear, and as I am a certified Honda small engine technician apprentice I figured it would be no big deal. Completely tore down engine to it's roots replaced 2nd, and 5th gear(because 5th gear connects to 2nd on the countershaft) dogs were worn pretty badly on both. The engine looked quite good compared to most others I've seen. Put the engine back together as per the service manual. Did all the right steps including loosening the banjo bolts to test for proper oil pressure. I even tore apart the electric starter to clean the contacts and the brushes and replace the dielectric grease. Adjusted the valves as per the service manual, replaced all gaskets, o-rings, seals, and oil filter. Finally after about a month of waiting on parts and reassembly I get to start her, only she doesn't. Electric start is still giving me the same issues I've always had. So I replaced the Ignition coil, CDI box, and put a new battery in, plus the starter motor rebuild. Nothing. Still cranks forever. I said what the heck and tried to push it slightly down hill and bump start it, and voila... fired right up! Once she gets hot enough and the stator charges the battery enough it'll electric start... sometimes. So I looked towards ignition, used a tool called ignition mate. Pretty awesome tool if you can afford it. Well while cranking the ignition mate reads the spark plug is getting 1-4kw of "spark" every cycle, well it only fires after getting up past 5kw sometimes 6-8kw. And sometimes the ignition would be intermittent as in it wouldn't give any spark at all. I cycle the ignition and it seems to soft reset the bike as it will usually give it back spark. I tested this with the new and old CDI box, the old one would never spark. Ever. So I threw it in the trash. A month later I stil l can't figure it out. Is there something I'm missing? TL;DR Bike won't start using electric start only bump start before and after engine rebuild Electric start works after pushing the starter past about 200 cold cranking amps or when hot.
  3. I have a 1995 yz250 I recently got but it has some bottom end issues with 1st and 5th. And finding the parts I need seems nearly impossible or a ridiculous price on eBay when I can find one . I was wondering if there is anyway to bolt up something like a 2006 yz250 or similar motor without any major changes? If not is it possible to use newer gears and shift forks?
  4. Look for some suggestions on repairing the Stripped male threads on the studs that clamp the front axle. As of know my thinking is to rethread it with the slightly smaller SAE threads and new bolt size. My guess is the previous owner overtightened and stripped them out. They were super loose when I loosened them when I changed the front wheel bearings.
  5. So Iv got a 1993 cr 125. I tore down the engine for a top end and discovered someone left out the power valves. How many years did they make the engine the same? Can I put a newer cylinder back on this bike?
  6. Hi, I've been looking pretty much everywhere online for new side covers (plastics) for my XR250L. I've already change the front fender and one of my side cover has a crack so I was trying to find some new ones. While looking online, I couldn't find anywhere that was selling OEM or aftermarket plastics for the year 1992. I found that Rocky Mountain ATV/MC sells the side plastics for the years 95' and up but nothing else before that. Would the side covers of the 95' fit my 92'? Thanks everyone!
  7. Where can i find some plastics for a 1993-1995 Rm125-Rm250 plastics, I have search every where. With no luck. A point in the right direction would help. I really the bike and want her to look and preform good. Thanks
  8. Hi ! I have a deal on 2 wheel with tire but i wonder if they would fit... so does 2 wheel from a kawasaki kx 80 1995 can fit on a kawasaki kx85 2001 ? Tire size are the same ! Thx !
  9. I have a blown motor a 1995 cr250 and i need a new cylinder but cant find one for that year what year cylinder can i buy to replace that one and what year would be the best fit.
  10. Hi all. I’m fairly experienced at working with engines, but that being said, every engine has its own specific issues... I recently purchased a new to me trail bike. A 1995 klx250. That looked to be in decent shape. Other than some popping on decel and at idle”what little it would idle” .. which I chocked up to a dirty carb. After getting it home and doing some more research.. I realized that this bike has had some “Stroker” mods done. The P.O installed a Stroker manual decomp lever, and hot start plunger routed from the air box to a port on the intake. And swapped the carb with a minkuni tm33 pumper carb, with a 142.5 main and 42.5 pilot .. I cleaned the carb checked the spark plug and have managed to get the bike running but the idle is very high and uneven and it is still Popping and idles rough ... when I try to turn down the idle adjustment to wear it should be it dies. In my experience I would say vacuum leak but I can’t seem to locate one anywere round the carb...any ideas? ... also I have the air/fuel screw turned out about 2 1/4 turns. Any one else had this issue with these mods. Any trouble areas to check out ? Generally I would just keep tinkering, but I haven’t got a lot of time to spend on it, so thought maybe someone would have some ideas. bike specs cyl250cc, comp 165psi., carb: tm33 pumper with 142.5 main and 42.5 pilot. Air screw about 2 turns out. With an open air box lid and a k&n filter
  11. Hey all, ive been upgrading my 1995 XR250R and have come across many people using this FMF Muffler: http://www.fmfracing.com/Product/ProductDetail?CategoryID=42&BikeType=MX%2FOFFROAD&BikeMake=HONDA&BikeModel=XR250R&imaConfig=Single&ParentCategoryID=31&Priority=13 Has anybody here fit one of these on a 1995 or other pre 96 XR? If not what kind of good aftermarket muffler works with the 1995? Thanks and cheers
  12. I’ve got this 85 yz 250 with a odd rev problem, it starts and runs fine, good compression but when you Give it wide open throttle in newtral the bike will rev to around 5.5 k rpm like platow for a bit there, once you’ve waited a few seconds there for it to clear itself out until it reaches its max rev whatever it might be 7k rpm even happeneds when the bike is defenetly warmed up after a wide open pull. But it doesn’t bog at idle to 3k. The trotte response when riding seens normal. However i don’t feel that the motor is getting its full potential. Honestly I’m just confused on what’s goin on and i need some help
  13. Hello fellow big bore lovers...... If you have ANY information (good or bad) please advise as it may either help me save from making a $4000 mistake or spend it and be happy. I have a line on purchasing two KTM 550 MXC bikes in Colorado. I have not seen them yet in person. I've talked with the owner twice and this is what I DO know. He is an ex pro hill climb racer and raced AMA, NHA and others. I will try to post photos. One is I believe a stock 1994 in very very nice original condition and the other is a 1995 model that was his race bike. The stock bike has had a Nikisil coating and I'm being told it runs very well and pulls super strong. The '95 model was highly maintained but was raced. No engine work ever performed. It has custom bolt on swingarm extenders that are easily removable so the bike can go back to stock. Those alone were $500 to have them CNC'd for the guy. He wants $2000 each. I have read that these bikes had notorious issues with piston squish, stator electronic's and other things. Is this a good deal or should I steer clear? Thank you.
  14. 1995 cr250r I replaced the oil in my forks the other day and noticed that the springs are quite a bit out of spec. I think factory is about 19.16 inches according to my clymer manual. When I measured them, they shored up at around 18.5 inches. I've been doing a few google searches and looking at the factory connections website but I cannot find any direct replacement springs for these KAYABA series shocks. 1. Obviously my first option is to buy new forks and triple tree but I really don't want to do that. 2. I'm guessing "stretching" the spring is the absolute worst thing I could do, so that's not an option? (Yes, I'm questioning that...) 3. Which leads me to the PVC pipe/washer question? I know this is done in chinese pit bikes for greater compression because...china, but I'm trying to figure out what all of my options are. There were two washers on top of the spring "inside" the spring collar when I took it apart but they don't "extend" the spring to the 19.16 inches. (It was still shy about an eighth of an inch or maybe one more washer.) I did find these from race tech, but they seem like they would be awful soft compared to stock springs (which is supposedly around .41 or .43 kg depending on the website you go to) http://www.racetech.com/page/title/FRSP-RT Fork Spring List Item Code Description Length (mm) OD 1 OD 2 Minimum Travel Rate (kg/mm) Rate (N/mm) Rate (lb/in) FRSP 394936RT FRK SPR 38.1x487mm .36kg 487 38.1 312 0.36 3.53 20.2 TL;DR If my springs are too short and I can't find decent non-used replacements and I don't plan on jumping the bike (If I did it would be like 1-2 feet in the air not 30 feet like Ronnie Mac) can I do anything to extend these springs to use it as a trail ride/leisure track bike? My apologies if there is a thread on this already. Searching for "front fork stock springs short" didn't bring up any viable threads...
  15. I have a 1995 rm250 that needs a cylinder jug. I just wanted to know what years were compatible if any are? I cant seem to find any that say they're for a 95 but i saw other forums say 91-95 but i just want to double check before buying anything. Thank you!
  16. I’m looking for a red plastic gas tank for a 1995 klx 650 C-model.Well prefer a red one but any color will do. New to the bike and love it but do not like the metal gas tank. Anyone have one for sale or know someone or somewhere lol. Any advice will help. Ty for your time
  17. So I have this "95 RMX 250 That didn't have a spark, I assumed it was the stator but I just opened up the case and to my surprise one of the Magnets on the inside of the rotor that spins completely shattered, There metal bits stuck to it and I'm not sure what to do. I cant find one on eBay besides the ones that come in the $300 package deals, or there's an OEM one for over $200. I doubt I can fix it so now I'm wondering if anyone has a solution
  18. A while back i was riding my 1995 KTM 300 EXC and then the next day it refused to start. I made sure that it wasn't my carburetor, so the next thing i could check is my stator. Now im not sure what it is suppose to read but i tested each wire and this is what each read. Black wire to Red wire - 1.531 Meg Ohms Green wire to Red wire - 1.531 Meg Ohms Green wire to Black wire - 173.1 Ohms Yellow wire to yellow wire - .4 Ohms any information anyone can supply would be greatly appreciated Thanks!
  19. Where can i get a silencer for a 1993-1995 Rm125. I know they have a different style of expansion chamber. I cant seem to find one that has been discontinued. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks👍
