  1. Does anyone know if a newer flywheel/starter gear/starter clutch(bearing) will fit a 2003 WR250F? I see that they changed the design some through the years, but I suspect that if I got everything from the crank thrust washer out that it would interchange just fine. It looks like the whole one-way bearing design changed in '04, which I'm not against as I believe that's what ultimately caused my failure. The rotor stays the same through '13. It looks like they added an actual thrust washer between the ring gear and the rotor in '06 (and I assume shortened the snout on the ring gear by that amount, thus the new p/n) and otherwise everything is the same through '13. I guess based on the above, I would assume everything from '04-'13 is swapable in the correct combinations, so my real question is if the change from '03-'04 made anything incompatible. Given that the stator itself is the same for '03 and '04, as is the intermediate starter gear that the ring gear meshes with, and although the crank shows a different part number aftermarket pieces are listed as '03+, I'm fairly certain it's a go. But verification from someone who knows never hurts. Not having to find one year specific parts would sure make things easier. Thanks!
  2. This is the saga of my poorly maintained 2003 YZ250 that I bought about a year ago. I added a few mods last summer to help me get by then deployed to Africa for 6 months. The poor bike was riddled with SAE hardware, spray foam where there should have been gaskets, and ziptied rear fender, a horribly cut seat, and plenty of other unspeakable things. However, it came with a title and the engine did run pretty strong at the time...even though it had a hint of engine noise. Over time, the noise progressed and I knew what had to be done. While I was away, I coerced my wife into sending a used crankshaft i bought out to Mr. Crankshaft so I'd have a spare for a quick swap... This is it after I replaced the fuel tank that had a split in it and put a lectron carb on. It still wasn't that smooth and the wheel/tire combination were unforgiving, plus, the suspension and rebound were set for a wanna-be-freestyle MX rider. This is the transition to where it was before I really dove in GT216AA Front with Nitro Mousse 18" Rear with Shinko 505 Cheater rear and Nitro Mousse Low Enduro bend Flexx bars (eventually putting steering dampener on) SSS Forks and suspension done by W.E.R. DEP Armored Enduro Pipe Steahly 9oz Flywheel Weight Devol Skidplate IMS/Zipty tank Non-cracked white rear fender Tall seat...I forget who made it, but it does what it do and fits well. Head cut by 218 (head was cut after this photo was taken) rock kickstand During this ride, I had next to no bottom end due to a stuck powervalve. This was my first ride since I came home. I never really tore into the engine, so I got in there, cleaned it up and replaced a broken powervalve pulley and a few areas where parts were missing from the previous owner(s). Two weeks after this picture, I took it out to the mountains for the fourth of july and it started to get real nasty sounding and not in a good way This is why: While I was in there, I figured I'd send the top end out to Eric Gorr...and since that has a 2.5 week lead time, I might as well get the frame in order. Now my bike looks like this. The frame was spray bombed over who knows what, which was over the the original finish. That is being re-mediated. To be continued...
  3. I've posted here before looking for wr450 engine. I haven't found one yet for a reasonable price so I thought I'd try again. I'm looking for just the engine but a whole bike would be great also. Let me know what everyone has.
  4. Hi everyone, I have a 03 DRZ-400s, and since ive bought it ive had the same problem after many tries and successes at fixing. Basically when ever it feels like it(it has to be cold) it will decide not to start and will most of the time just let out huge ass backfire 3 or 4 times while trying to start her. I have cleaned out my carb about 8 times now, with 2 different bike "experts helping me". It seems as if everytime i clean the carb it will the work- sometimes for months and sometimes only for hours and then BACK to the original issue of not starting and only backfiring... (when she does run though she runs beautifully and when trying to start her IF she doesnt backfire she will start on first swing everytime.) I have checked valve clearances and are within tolerances. ANY SUGGESTIONS??
  5. This guy has a 2003 xr50 for 400$ pretty good deal, but the forks are throwing me off since they're usually a different yellowish brown color. Also in the frame next to the forks there's like a little circle, what's that? I don't see those on the 2003 xr50's. what do I look for when I go see it?
  6. Recently bought a Husky WR 125 the one without restrictions. Since this is my first two-stroke I need some questions answered, a big thanks to all people that spend their own time to help me. This bike was ran 50:1 so 20ml of oil per litre of fuel. It ran ok when started but never wanted to idle it would just cut straight out not BOG but just die I winded out the mixture screw completely and it still wouldn't start the only time I actually got it to start is if I hold the throttle open about a 1/4 of a turn and it would start up on the second kick sometimes lucky on the first. Because it's road legal I spend a lot of time at traffic lights which meant I had to keep the throttle steadily open so the bike would keep running, if I let go of the throttle it would just die. I recently switched oils from Motorex to Castrol but still rocking the 50:1 ratios. After every ride I have to clean the swing arm and exhaust tip because of black spooge. Earlier today I set out and 30 seconds down the road the bike bogged out and died, it then wouldn't start at all even the 'bypass - hold open throttle 1/4' wouldn't start the thing. I then ripped out the carb cleaned it out entirely and cleared ALL jets, I took off the air filter and cleaned inside the air box it seemed a little wet/oily inside and oiled the air filter slightly as it felt dry. It has decent spark but the plug was black and wet which I then cleaned and tried to kick over baring in mind I just refuelled. It would start with a 1/4 turn throttle and then rev up then bog out and die, of course it would not start with choke and without throttle. It has nice compression but when it comes to power if I don't pull the throttle crisp/fast enough it would snag and sound a little like a 4 stroke then all of a sudden power comes, to me that just sounds someone is going to say 'that is a two-stroke for you'.   7. I recently got a 2003 rm125. when I first got it, the bike was running. I went to ride it down to trails, and it was bogging when not in the high rpm range. Then the bike shut off, I started it again, rode for about 2 more minutes in powerband and it cut again. I couldn't get it running so I had to get a ride back to my house. I bought the actual spark plug (the 36.00 one). WhenI kickstart the bike, it sounds like no gas is getting in the engine. I opened and cleaned the carburetor, and checked to see if the float worked. I put the carb back together, and the float would not move. I don't know what the problem is, can anyone help?
  8. 2003 XR 100 was sitting for about ten years, pulled from a friend's barn. Did the normal carb clean and got her to where she was running ok with stock jets and pipe except it would surge on idle. It wasn't excessive but definitely wasn't normal. Then I put a pro circuit T4 pipe on it and it started running a little rough so I decided to try to go back to stock settings. During this time I went as high as a 38 main and a 98 pilot. I decided to try to go back to stock settings and remove the pipe. Now I'm back to 95 pilot and 35 main and the bike idles high, runs rough, sputters when I twist the throttle and fouls plugs quickly. Is this an air/fuel screw deal? Or do I need to re-jet? Please help me get my stepdaughters bike to riding condition. Thanks in advance. CT
  9. I replaced the clutch on my '03 TTR125. When I pulled the side cover off the kickstarter shaft came off with it. After putting it all back together and making sure that the stopper and the clip are in their home positions for the kickstarter, it fires right up! The issue is, when it's running there is an intermittent ratcheting sound like the kickstarter gear is just barely grazing the other gear. I have pulled it apart a hand full of times and can't seem to find the problem. Any suggestions appreciated..
  10. Hi! I'm thinking about buying an 03' CR250 and the seller did a rebuild, new piston, pro circuit exhaust, new crank, carburetor, spark plug, all new bearings and some other smaller things (seals etc.), on the picture bellow you can really see she's a beauty... okay so the problem is that after the rebuild the bike goes into false neutral every couple of shifts eg. every 10 min of riding. It didn't do that before the rebuild so any ideas? Also the bike is selling for $1450 and the price isn't final so that's why I'm so interested. Thanks in advance, ulajemuzica

Alright fellers I need your help I have rebuilt my 03 crf450r full bottom end the top end got new valve seals thats it and we put new shims in the valve train now heres were im at the bike runs great for a couple mins starts on the first or second kick but after a couple minutes or after you hit the kill switch it will not start again until I mess with the carburetor and the cam chain tensioner then it'll fire right back up so I was just wondering if any of you have run into this and what you did to fix it thanks guys
  12. So I am currently working on a 1997 CR125 and plan to make a full race build on it. But I have been noticing that there are not very many aftermarket parts the biggest being the plastics and graphics for it due to the frame,tank,sub frame, etc. I was wondering if its possible to put that engine into a CR125 frame anywhere from 98-07 and how hard that would be to do. I have a welder but I am not confident enough to weld new motor mounts. If you guys could help me out with this that would be great.
  13. The other day up at my local trails a four wheeler pulled out in front of me and I completely snapped my front left fork in half. I can't find any place that still sells forks and I don't want to replace them with cr 85 forks. Is there anyplace that sells replacement forks? Thank you.
  14. Hey guys im a newby in the four stroke world and i just picked up a 03 yz450f and once i start it, i noticed the sucker heats up quick after about 30 seconds of running is this normal? Also let me know the best coolant and oil. Thanks in advance
  15. Can some one explain to me the actual difference between the 2001 exhaust and the 2003 exhaust for a yz250f. When I look at the schematics for both exhaust it is the exact same picture with updated part numbers for that model year. I have read mixed reviews on if they fit or don't fit. So if somebody knows the actual reason why the 2003 won't fit the 2001 please enlighten me. Also, please don't respond to this with I read on the FAQ that they don't fit. I want the reason they don't fit.
  16. I fixed the problem post up for others Hi Guys, I just got a 2003 cr 250 and it does not rev out all the time. When I start it and once it is warm it doen't rev out but sometimes when im riding it will rev in gear and other times it won't, also it will rev in neutral sometimes and other times it won't. I have not looked to far into it yet but I have set the rc valve cable slack and when the right side of the butterfly is up there is a twelve mm gap between the butterfly and the cable hole and I do not have the little stop for the valve would this be a problem and if so is it possible to buy is and put it in. The vid below is the one I watched to adjust the rc valve. I also put a new plug in it and checked the burn a couple times and it was good. Im guessing it is either electrical or the power valve needs cleaned, I also Have a keihin PWK 38mm as could the needle or jetting be a issue? let me know what you guys thank and any help would be appreciated thanks. I fixed my bike by setting the needle to three and putting smaller main and smaller pilot jet. I will leave the ost up so it can help some people
  17. Hi anyone. Been trawling the site for a few hours but can't seem to find the info I need. My mate's got a 2003 honda XR250 with a spare set of wheels, and I'm looking for a spare set for my 2003 yamaha WRF250. I can machine spacers to fit, but does anyone know the axle dimensions? My friend doesn't live nearby so can't do a quick 'wheels off check'. I'm hoping to find that the axle OD is the same and all I need is new spacers. I tried looking for bearing sizes for both but struggling tbh. Can anyone help with dimensions for either / both? Thanks in advance ???
  18. Hey everyone, So my buddy has a 2003 KX250 with a bent frame, and I have a perfect 02 rm250 roller. Anyone know how easy it would be to swap the kawi engine into the zuki frame? From what I've read it should be fairly easy, because the engine mounts are almost the same with the early 2000's... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Part # 04921-KZ4-L30 I have seen a few guys looking for one as they are no longer available from Honda Shipping is from New Zealand which would be about $70 USD tracked 6 day delivery to the USA.   21. Greetings, I have broken 3 of these shafts on my 2003 YZ450F. I am wondering if there is a combination of parts i can buy to convert it into a newer shaft or if a newer shaft will fit? I know I know, i shouldn't start the bike with the throttle open, but its force of habit as being an old school two stroke guy. I purchased a complete assembly off a 2006 and it will not fit in my case, it is 20mm thick not 16mm thick like the 2003 shaft. Also if anyone is selling some parts, i am interested. Any help is much appreciated.
  22. I don’t know how to hell I did this but I need help. Does anyone know the name of the part. I have been looking and even went to the local shop and they just gave me a piece of paper and I am stumped.
  23. first off start off by saying this is my first time rebuilding engine so bear with me. but ill start with what happen. was just riding down the road 57ish mph. and started losing power. down shifted to 4th lost more power downed to 3rd. wheels tried to lock up. got it in neutral. gave it few mins to cool down a second. hit start button and just sounded like battery was dead just really loud clicking noise. checked temp, gas, etc. then tried to kick start it and wouldn't move at all, so knew it was bad. got it home. put some oil down spark plug got kick start to move and it to start for a min maybe. but sounded very rough. drained oil good amount of metal in it and in oil filter area when whipped finger in side. fast forward pulled whole engine from bike. got the top end off. waiting on some tools to start bottom. but no bad marking on sleeve just one really big gouge. but stuck as of now and kinda scared to go further but trying to save money and learn so doing it myself I guess. just wondering on what rebuild kits I should buy. and would like to put big bore kit on it. just looking for any advice or opinions on what I should do. like replacing any thing else inside to newer year or upgraded to make better. and guess down road would need info on carb and all that but far away. took few pictures if that would help and can take more. thanks in advance. hope that made sense
  24. NO HATE OR SMARTARSE. Hi all, i have recently bought a 2003 yz250. I have gotten it freighted so i have only looked at photos and a video of a start although, those don't prove much. I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me please do. If you have had the same year or similar and model please tell me what you ran? PLEASE NOTE - I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA. 1. Because i have gotten it freighted, the fuel has been drained. A mate wants to test the gears and some other stuff, so i am going to buy 3l of fuel to test, what ratio should i mix at and what fuel and oil should i use? 2. I'm riding in the bush with a couple of mates on 250 2 strokes, there will be quite alot of dirty,dust,rocks etc, what would be the best air filter and oil? 3. I wouldn't consider myself a pro rider but, I ride fairly hard, I want the bike to be healthy and in good condition. I don't want to replace the top end for at least 40+ hrs. What would be the best fuel to oil ratio, and what would be the best fuel and oil to mix with? 4. I plan on doing a top end, service, power valve and carb clean and maybe add v force reeds (if gears and the other stuff are good) Watched a couple youtube videos of top ends and they look easy, power valve looks a little hard but i think i can do it, have never cleaned a carb on a 250 so not sure what to do. If i added vforce reeds would it need to be jetted? (Don't know how to jet either) Think that is it for now. I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA.. Thank you
  25. I’m currently at stock jetting on my 2003 yz250f. I’m rebuilding the top end with a 269cc big bore kit and installing an FMF power core 4 with megabomb exhaust. Current elevation is 700’ above sea level. Where should I start with my jetting? And where can I buy individual jets so that I don’t have to buy an entire assortment? Currently: 178 main 42 pilot needle is 4th Clip from top (stock)
