  1. I've posted here before looking for wr450 engine. I haven't found one yet for a reasonable price so I thought I'd try again. I'm looking for just the engine but a whole bike would be great also. Let me know what everyone has.
  2. hey guys, Recently acquired a 2004 KTM 250 EXC. I'm looking for more power, better response. I've searched, but can't find an answer. What year heads and CDIs from 250SXs will fit my 2004 250 EXC? thanks for the knowledge.
  3. i have a 2004 yz450f and i am having issues with my clutch, i have to float the gears to ride it because the clutch wont work at all, i dont know whats wrong with it, i tore apart the clutch basket and all the friction plates look fine
  4. I have a 2004 Yamaha WR250F that the previous owner modified and the bike doesn’t run the way it should. It has an FMF muffler with an aftermarket pipe coming from the engine. There’s no other silencers or restrictions in the exhaust. When I got the bike, it was backfiring every time I let off the throttle no matter what speed I was doing. When the previous owner first started the bike, part of the exhaust pipe was cherry red while he was warming it up by giving it more throttle. I took the carburetor apart and found out that I have a 178 main jet, 40 pilot jet, and 72 leak jet. The needle clip was in the middle in the 4th position. I adjusted the fuel screw back to the 1.5 turns out position from the 3.5 turns out position the previous owner had it set at. I changed out the pilot jet to a 45 and the bike no longer backfires while I ride it but it does die when I leave it to idle. Sometimes it dies immediately after letting off the throttle and other times it will idle for a minute or two before dying. Now before this gets too confusing, I ran the bike with the fuel screw at 1.5 turns out and 3.5 turns out after changing the pilot jet. At 1.5 turns out, the bike would only run when choked and would die when idling. At 3.5 turns out, the bike will run with the choke off but will still die when idling. If anyone has any suggestions to try, please let me know.
  5. Hey I was just wondering if anyone could help me with jetting specs and proper premix ratio. I have a 2004 yz250 2 stroke with v force reeds, and a pro circuit fatty pipe. Mostly trail ride and hill climb with some track activity. Was wondering if anyone e could shed some light because it seems like I'm running super rich. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
  6. I'm looking for some aftermarket triple clamps for my 2004 KX250 and I can't seem to find any that will fit my bike. Ride Engineering, Pro Circuit, Tag, Universal, etc. Anyone know if the newer model 250F/450F triple clamps will fit my bike? Also, if I wanted to swap out the front forks all together for some new 450F forks, is that possible? What all would I have to replace? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!
  7. So I am currently working on a 1997 CR125 and plan to make a full race build on it. But I have been noticing that there are not very many aftermarket parts the biggest being the plastics and graphics for it due to the frame, tank, sub frame, etc. I was wondering if its possible to put that engine into a CR125 frame anywhere from 98-07 and how hard that would be to do. I have a welder but I am not confident enough to weld new motor mounts. If you guys could help me out with this that would be great.
  8. Hi everyone, I've just bought a 2004 Drz400E and I have noticed a small metal piece poking out of the carb and rubbing into the top of the engine. I had a look on a 2015 Drz and it isn't there. What is this and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance. 2004 Drz 2015 Drz:
  9. Does anyone have a recommendation for a carburator replacement for a 2004 CRF250X? They're a dime a dozen on eBay, but has anyone really bought and installed one? Knock-offs for sure. Long story short, I've picked up a used 2004 CRFX that sat for years. I've cleaned the carb. and found a crack, it's leaking fuel. I'd rather start fresh rather than piece together replacement parts, but I'd also rather avoid the $500 for a name brand replacement. Thoughts?
  10. I recently bought a 2004 Honda crf250r needing a complete rebuild. It’s missing the head and jug and am having trouble finding a 04. I was wondering what heads will work and what won’t. Also if I found a newer bike motor could I just install that on my 04. Thanks
  11. Just picked up a 2004 400 ex for 500$. As I got it home and was looking I found this random wire hanging down, (circled in red) it obviously doesn’t go there and was wondering what the heck it is? Also the spot circled in green there’s a little bit of exposed wire, is this a problem when washing? Is there anything I should know before washing the bike?
  12. So I'm looking for a klx110 online and I come up on this post, the dude wants 550 for it but the problem is it doesn't start and he says he needs a front end tune. Also has an rebuilt aftermarket carb. I asked him why it wouldn't start and he said the front end of the motor is shot but all I need to do is tune it. Is it possible?!I'm gonna offer him less but I want to know if it's worth it.
  13. Seized my engine last weekend because i put in my oil filter one backwards... i'm a dummy. Needles to say I need a new cylinder and a new piston this is what i'm ordering or at least planning to order.. Piston : https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/974/3784/Wiseco-Piston-Kit?v=533&s=47466 Cylinder: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-KAWASAKI-KX250F-OEM-CYLINDER-JUG-TOPEND-TOP-END-KX250-KX-250F-250-F-RMZ250/192304125998?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 going used on the cylinder to save some money. My question is.. has anyone done one of these and if so do you have a step by step how to? or know of a video on how to do it? on a bit of a budget and want to get back riding as soon as possible. Thanks for looking!
  14. Hey all, first post, glad to be here! Just got my first 2 stroke in a trade, it's a 2004 KTM 200sx. always been a 4 stroke guy, but I've done some time on some friends' yz125's and yz250's. Since day one, i though mine sounded like a bucket of marbles, especially on decel and idle, both with the clutch in and out. Here's a short clip of the test ride the first day i got it: https://vid.me/XPgVP to ease my mind, I rebuilt my crank, after finding a tiiiiny bit of up and down play. all of my bearings checked out, so I omitted replacing them since i don't have access to a machine shop. buttoned it back up, and fired it up. https://vid.me/4gDWj the noise has improved (i think), but I'm not sure if there's something else at play here. or maybe it's just a noisy bike. What do y'all think? many thanks Adam
  15. Just bought a 2004 yz250f and want to know what the best engine oil I can use on it. After some research on forum pages I found that Valvoline Full Sythetic 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil or Shell Rotella 15W-40 Heavy Duty Engine Oil are oils that people recommend on many bikes. On the other hand the owner's manual says: At 40 Fahrehiet or higher Yamalube 4 (20W-40) or SAE 20W-40 type SG motor oil (Non-friction modified) At 60 Fahrenhit or lower Yamalube 4 (10W-30) or SAE 10W-30 type SG Motor oil (Non-friction modified) and/or Yamalube 4-R (15W-50) (non-friction modified) So any suggestions on what I should go with? 🙂 *Couldnt find another topic like mine, link me if you know of any that would answer my question, or just give me your suggestion.
  16. Hi, New to this site, I am currently having problems with my recently purchased 2004 Yz250 2t, when i first got the bike it had trouble starting and possible carb issues, so i sent it to a local bike mechanic. Got the bike back 2 weeks later, he cleaned carb on bike and done some other small bits that arent related to this problem. The starting isues were resovled by useing the correct sparkplug and it now idles great however midrange to high revs its useless, not hitting power band atall, today i took it out and really tryed to give it some beans to see if it was clogged with somthing that it could maybe spit out (bad decision I am not bike smart) It proceeded to backfire and stall out, hasnt started since, (still has compression and is not siezed) Any help would be very appreciated!
  17. Hey everyone. I recently got my 2004 rmz250 back up and running however I’m having an issue with the bike bogging when I go over rough bumps, or popping up the front tire. If I’m riding on flat land the bike runs perfect with no issues. When the bike bogs over bumps it feels like a lean bog, engine isn’t firing. Thinking float height maybe? Although the float height seemed fine when I reassembled the bike but I did not look too closely. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks
  18. Ok so I pulled off my top end and I found these little indent all over my pistoin and head do you guys know what they are and what they mean thanks so much
  19. i have a very beautiful 2004 kx125, i picked it up a few months ago and when i got to the guys place to check it out, he started it by foot like normal and i rode it around the yard and about 500 feet i went and brrrrrrrr it fouled the plug??? but it was 1800$ so i was like heck with it im still getting it to the looks of the condition and claimed recent rebuild. i took it home and we replaced the spark plug and we had to bumpstart it this time. again 500 feet and brrrr fouled. this bike has a BRAND NEW mikuni carbourator OEM with jetting and airscrew position on point, Timing is perfect, i even tried advancing and retarding the timing, still nothing. i put it back in its normal position though. Reeds are good. no gasket leeks. good compresion. spark plug is BR9EIX NGK. it gets a spark, its getting gas, its getting air. when i try and start it, it back fires sometimes a loud pop. carb should be out of question, timing should be out of question. what else is there to check? i have talked to a few people saying it might be either, crank seals, or the stator. but i have NO IDEA of what to do. please help me i know u guys might know what to do, im 15 and trying to get into mechanics and i try to be the best mechanic i could possibly be with my hard earned tools. 4/1/17 ill be checking on any comments or suggestions every 8 hours or so. and i also dont want to buy new parts for the bike that it doesnt need. Thanks for reading! give me your best shot, I accept any help!
  20. Hey all, Just the outer day I desisted to do some suspension work on my 2005 400exc, so I started searching trying to figure out whats on my orange machine. In all the chaos and confusion an idea came to mind... What if there was a master thread for all suspension of KTM dirt bikes, from early models to present, one place you could quickly find your bike and the suspension it sits on. It might already exist but I have spent hours looking for it and am in doubt. So hears the deal, I know you can look up a certain fork or shock and find loads of info and reviews about it so i'm not asking for that here, I just want to list the year, model, what it floats on, and changes in setup. If you feel so inclined to leave a comment or two about the suspension that would be great, but lets try to keep the list neat so its easy for others to find the bike they are looking for. This is what I have come up with so far I think its most of the major differences. Please correct me if i'm wrong. 2002-2006 All KTM, 2007-2016 EXC: Use an OC (open chamber) WP USD 48mm fork, with a PDS rear. The oc fork tends to be soft from the factory but loads of tuners have experience with this fork and I hear it can be set up great for a reasonable price. 2007 XC/XCF/XCW/XCFW: WP USD 48mm OC fork, PDS rear. 2007-2014 SX/SXF, 2008-2013 XC/XCF: WP CC (closed chamber) twin chamber fork , linkage rear. the forks have an air bladder that needs to be checked and filled instead of a pressure spring. Are more expensive parts wise and harder to set up. Great fork for advanced motocross guys or those who just want to most aggressive set up. 2008-2016 XCW/XCWF: WP USD 48mm OC fork, PDS rear. 2014 XC/XCF: First model to get the 4CS fork, uses a linkage rear. The 4cs fork is designed to be lighter but has a verity of performance problems one being little bottoming resistance. Lots of mixed reactions from users. 2015-2016 SX/SXF/XC/XCF: first year of sx/sxf to get the 4CS fork, linkage rear. 2017-present (2018) SX/SXF/XC/XCF: has an AER 48mm air fork, linkage monoshock. The AER fork is insanely light (over 3 pounds less than the 4cs). 2017-present (2018) XCW/XCFW/EXC: WP XPlor fork, PDS rear. I don't really know anything about changes in shocks, and there must be some stuff about forks that I missed, for example the OC fork has been used form at least 2002 until 2016 there must have been some changes during that time. If you happen to know anything about that or changes on the other bikes please share. Cant wait to hear what you all have to say. Happy trails
  21. Basically, we all know 2004 is the year of the terrible valve issues on the Honda 250r, so can I buy a 2007 Head and put it on the 2004 cylinder?? Also what material are the intake valves on 2004 CRF250R
  22. I have a 2004 honda crf450r with probably over 500 hours on it but im not sure since it has no meter. I Bought it when I was 16 back in 2013 which means I've had it for around 7 years. It was pretty well taken care of and had the motor top and bottom rebuilt probably 15 hours before I got it. I have been riding it every weekend possible ever since I got it. I ride 95% trail with a very tiny bit of road just to get to another trail. I don't ride hard all the time, but I would say 70% of the time I would consider hard riding, wide open throttle, lots of shifting, racing other bikes. I have hit the rev limiter like maybe 2 times ever since I've had it. Oil changed probably every 3 rides or so. There's a strange soft ticking coming from the bike rope end and my guess is valves since I have never checked them once. It seems to be running very strong still, never has burned oil, and starts cold every time around the 3rd kick. Starts hot on the first kick. My question is when do I rebuild this thing? Should I be worried even if I can fix the slight tick in the top? It doesn't show any signs of breaking down on me but I feel like I'm on a grenade. I dont want to get it inspected by anyone and if it comes to it I'll be rebuilding on my own.
  23. I have been trying to get my '04 250x started after sitting a while and then not firing. I thought it was fuel related so I just finished rebuilding the carb and replacing old fuel lines. I have tried putting in a new coil but the spark still looks the same and both the old and new coil measure close to the same resistance. Brand new plug also installed. The bike will not fire at all. Can you take a look at this video and tell me if this spark looks normal? If not what should I look for next? Thanks!
  24. I recently picked up a 2002 yz426f for cheap however it’s missing all of the exterior oil lines... are the oil lines all compatible on this bike from 1998 to 2004?
  25. Hi guys, i have recently just bought a 2004 yamaha yz125, it has an athena 144cc big bore kit. The bike runs great! It has a loud knocking sound coming from top end but vibrates the clutch plate too. It speeds up when revved but goes quieter, also the sound dampens when the clutch is pulled in. The sound wasn't there when i bought the bike, then the knocking came after the second time of taking the bike out just up a lane. I have taken it out once to a proper track with this knocking sound and no problems or changes occured. By reading up it could be piston slap, but also many other problems. I don't know how long for sure the kit has been on the bike but the fella who i bought it from said "i think a year", but don't know of any care to the bike within that year because he was selling it for a friend. If any of you could help that would be great! And do i need to be majorly worried about this? Thanks
