  1. So I live in Cook County and i was looking into buying a dual sport, however i wont be driving on roads until i get my license(1year). So i was wondering when i buy the bike do i need to get insurance for it anyway and license and all that. Or I dont need to, since ill be only riding on private trails and forests. Im thinking of buying the Yamaha 250r, 2016 or 17.
  2. Back story. Just finished complete rebuild new head, valves, crank, bearings seals, and muffler bearing. I've checked, double checked ,and checked again timing. Exhaust valves are .011 and the intake are. .007 (I know a frog hair loose). It will fire right up when towed and it will stay running. So I am assuming ( I know) the carb probably needs some help. Can you guys point me in the right direction as I am baffled by carburetor theory and function. By the way happy Mother's Day to any that are reading brad
  3. Im trying to decided between the 2013 or 2014 crf250r . I just wanted your guys opinions on what you think is a better bike. i heard the 13 is weak on low end power but can you fix that with mapping? then i also heard the fuel injection on the 14 is better .Is it really all that much better or does it not make a big difference?
  4. So the bike was running like crap, bogging, not starting, not idling so I got the carburetor cleaned and jetted. Then I got it back and the same problems. The dude said it wasn’t the carb. And as of yesterday it won’t crank. It will try but it won’t crank. Is it the valves. If the valves are bad wouldn’t it still crank. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks

  6. I have a 2005 crf 250r that will start but dies right away. I cleaned the carb, tried a 40 pilot 160main I thought it was jetting so I put in a 45 pilot 172 main any ideas Or help? I just shimmed the valves and have re checked them about 5 times now
  7. I recently bought a 2015 Honda CRF250R and it has the showa SFF Air tac fork and the fork seals a leaking in the left fork .. I can’t find any videos on how to do it or do I know what specialty tools to buy please help thanks
  8. Want to know if anyone knows the proper jetting for 2001 cr250 with keihen PWK airstriker carb from JD jetting also has fmf gnarly and vforce3 reeds. I just put the vforce3 reeds on and it seems like something is off now, seems like its has a little loss of power right befor the power valve opens up. Once it is in the power seams fine but it just don't as smooth as it should. Does anyone know anything close or could give some advice.
  9. Hi all, My main question is how can I make my 250r more reliable. I have owned it for 2 years and it was spent about 1 year in the shed probably needing new valves and piston rings (i have been putting it off) Will steel valves last longer and work well in the engine? Also, what are your thoughts of me selling it and buying something newer? is it worth it? Cheers
  10. Need help with my 03 Honda cr 250r... The bike takes a while to idle down to normal after letting go of the throttle, especially after riding with WOT and I press the clutch the rpms don't seem to go down until I come to a complete stop which seem really weird to me. Otherwise the bike runs great and the rpms drops normally when reving at idle. I have a FMF pipe and vforce 3 reeds. Main jet is 400 and the pilot jet is 40. What do you guys think could be the issue? I have tried adjusting the airscrew, cleaning the carb, checking float level, changing throttle cable, changing the sparkplug which had a good colour, it did not look like it was running too lean. So now I don't know what I should be looking at next. Maby a airleak? crankseals? exhaust gasket? what do you guys think?

My friend recently got his chain adjuster bolt that threads into the swingarm stuck because the previous owner put loctite or something on it and the bolt broke and is almost but not completely flush with the swingarm. he tried drilling it out and it didn't work, tried an easy out and the easy broke and is stuck inside the bolt now. Any tips to avoid buying a whole new swingarm?
  12. So I have a 2007 crf250r that I bought in the summer. I rode it about 5 or 6 times and never noticed anything. Then when I was on a ride with my buddies I started to notice a ticking noise coming from the top end. I figured it was valves or something because the bike was tough to start that day. We kept riding but by the time we got back to the houses the bike started having a noisy knocking sound that was consistent with the rpms. I got it the valve cover off and when you kick it over the noise is there I just cant pinpoint where it is coming from. Everything looks fine and i will check the valves with a feeler gauge when i get home. Just wondering if anyone knew of a common problem with the hondas to steer me in the right direction.   13. Does anybody know the recommended rebuild times for racing on a 2018 Honda CRF 250R? I am a B level motocross racer and I have 30 hours on the bike so far, the bike is completely stock except for a complete Yoshimura exhaust system. I know that the piston is recommended to be replaced at 15 hours. When does it need a complete top end rebuild with valves and springs and when does the bottom end need to be rebuilt?

I am Trying to self teach my self but I'm in over my head and looking for someone who can help tech us various techniques and how to do so safely.   16. I'm new to riding and new to The Forum. I have recently purchased a 2017 Honda CRF250R and want to convert it for Enduro riding or single-track trail riding. the bike currently has way too much throttle response and it's to Snappy for me to control in tight technical terain or anything sloppy or rough I have heard that adding a flywheel weight or a G2 Tamer will help but I Wonder has anybody made these mods on a newer Honda and if so do they work? or is there something else I should go with? and if I get a flywheel weight what size would you recommend? thanks for any recommendations guys
  17. Hi all, I have a 2005 crf250r that has a pretty bad bog whenever you whack the throttle. If you roll on the gas you cant even tell. The motor has about 7 hours on the full rebuild. Jets are 48 pilot 162 main 70 leak and i dont remember the other one. Has full fmf exhaust with mega bomb header and 4.1 pipe motor is stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Luke
  18. At one time I was a pretty good rider back in highschool but got out of it during college when my KTM got stolen. Im fresh out of college now and am trying to get back into the offroad world. I recently bought an 07 CRF 250X. Im 210 pounds with gear and know im to heavy for my stock suspension but dont have the money to get my suspension re-sprung and revalved at the moment. Does anyone have any tips for getting the most out of stock suspension without heavier springs and revalving for until I can get the suspension worked?
  19. hey guys hey guys I need a little help. I just bought a 2017 Honda CRF250R I realize I should have got the X Edition but I can't trade up or get a different bike now so I'm left with trying to modify it to hit the trails. my question is I'm having a really hard time controlling the throttle at low revs and in tight technical terain because it's a Motocross Edition so what can I do to help the smooth the throttle so that I don't whiskey throttle it and end up on my back side all day long.. I am also new to riding g so any help please.

So I thought I knew the purpos of a rev limiter but I was watching some videos and came across some titled rev limiters and with the bikes on stands and in gear when they throttled on and off it barley engaged the drive and the rear tire hardly moved. Now all of these videos are showcased aftermarket exhaust but I'm wondering if th ey actually instled a aftermarket revlimiter. My 2017 250r is stock and with it on the stand and in gear will let loose the rear tire with the smallest throttle twist do I'm wondering if a rev limiter will give me more track able power and torque for trail riding with out causing a lot of the ruts and ruining our single and double track?

  24. Hi everyone. I have a Honda CRM250R, the enduro version of the CR250R of the same era, more or less. Not popular in the US market but all over the place in Japan, Europe, and the Middle East. Anyway, my front brake caliper has recently given up the ghost - absolutely buggered. I could probably put fresh pistons, seals and whatnot into it, but I can't even get piston 2 to come out, it's siezed in the caliper like it's been welded there. Looking at the caliper itself, I see "Nissin 27" stamped into it on the spoke end outside, and KS6 on the inside of the caliper where the top of the pads go. Anyone know what other models of bike I can steal scavenge a front caliper from? Preferably a caliper that will fit the EBC FA185 pads I bought recently? I have a line on a 2004 Honda XR250R front caliper that looks mighty similar, but not quite, and the pads are the same. Based on the picture below, I did some measurements and this is what I got Distances center to center: A - B = 100mm A - C = ~59mm B - C = ~62mm Any ideas? Lemme know. I'm planning on trolling eBay for some calipers that will fit. Just a pic of the bike as a whole for funsies.
  25. Hello, Well my old 2011 crf250r needs a full engine rebuild and it's going to cost too much to fix, would it be possible to make a 95 cr125 fit the frame, would even a yz engine fit? Cheers
