  1. Hey all, im shopping for my first two stroke. I’m a woods rider and I’ve found what looks like a great deal on an 250 sx. Changes in bike thus far are lower gearing on chain and softer spring on shock, bark busters and handlebar risers. I will certainly need an xc gas tank and probably work on forks. Anything else I can/should do to make this single track worthy?
  2. Hey guys/girls, I'm looking at buying a new KTM and don't want to spend the money without riding one first. I'm on the fence between the 250 and 300xc models. I race c class in local hare scrambles and will be racing my first GNCC (Camp Coker) in a few weeks (I'm pretty slow btw). I love casual trail riding as well. My current bike is an 09 200xc. My riding buddy has a 2020 300 husky and It is an absolute dream to ride, but at 170lbs wet I'm not sure I wouldn't be just as happy with a 250 and have less felt weight in the single tracks. I'm always looking for new people to ride with and would enjoy meeting up with someone at a local compound. We have a pretty awesome private 6mile loop in Sumter, SC also. Its tough to spend 10k on something without giving it a test ride... Hit me up if anyone's interested, KTM or not!!
  3. OK here goes... Picked up an 04 200 EXC few months back, needed some work to say the least, wont go into detail of all the things i've fixed on the bike just the current and most present issue I cant seem to fix... it is smoking IE blue smoke/lots of splooge to the point that at the end of a few hour's ride, it's out the tail pipe, running down the back and dripping onto the swing arm/rear break caliper and blue smoking quite a bit. When I first got it, it smoked more and smelled like shit. So first things first went to the carb, I live on the Oregon coast (elevation/temp reference) it's old dirty/stained but inside looks good, came with jetting pilot-45, main-178 needle: no idea what brand guessing stock in the 3rd clip, adjusted the float height due to it leaking gas when bike was upright no tilt with the gas on, Bought JD jet kit and running pilot-45, Main-185 and Needle is blue 3rd clip (JD's recommend specs for my bike @ my attitude). I have also replaced my Inner crankcase seal twice (First time I thought I messed up the O-ring so redid to make sure). I've rebuilt the top end/new piston (same thing) cleaned the PV, NOTE HERE that the PV has some issues, it seems to work fine but the screw that goes on top of the cylinder, down into the PV/flap would not come out preventing me from removing the flap to clean it, however it move's/ function's correctly, and has minimum clearance on both sides. One of the PV cover bolts that also works at the exhaust spring holder, was over torqued at some point (impact driver prob), or a result in a hard impact, the hole the bolt goes into is flailed/jared open a bit, not bad, not in the way of any function/ PV Gearing/hinge, it is not needed for that area to be air tight as their is also a breather that goes out of the PV so will not result in an "air leak" or loss in Top end PSI.... anyway... it's still smoking.... quite a bit.. now the bike itself rides fine I feel, the carb does puke gas when tilted over slightly/ hard to start (kick start) after flooded (like all bikes tho) I don't have any stalling/low idle issues outside of user error on clutch control. Honestly outside of it smoking as much as it does I would think nothing is wrong with it.. I have also tried raising the needle Clip to 2nd clip and it changed nothing at all, not even feel of the bike/response and have a new Spark plug I have yet to put on the bike. I have also "compromised" the crankcase Gasket (new one in the mail) while I was putting the Crankcase back on but that should do nothing with the exhaust just a little gear oil leak not relevant but throwing it out there. So I am at a loss... I've been toying with the idea of getting a Lectron carb... However... would hate to drop $400~$500 and the issue still persist, if it's a jetting/carb/float issue that would fix it and improve MPH/fuel consumption Or something with the PV? but I don't see the PV causing that much smoke/sploogee... I've ridden the bike normally/hard and nothing's happened but I don't want to keep pushing it and possibly clip the bike. Any ideas? "Oh help me 2 stroke community you're my only hope"
  4. Hello, this past weekend was overly frustrating for me and a few friends. We planned weeks ahead to get away for the weekend, leaving the even more frustrated wife and kids, traveling a few hours south to ride at Burning Rock Outdoor Adventure Park in WV. Cabins rented, tanks filled, bikes in tow. We made it 15 miles from camp the first morning only to have my rather new (250 miles, 16 hours) 2016 250xc-w stop dead. Initial thought was a plug, which when changed it hit just for a second then shut off again DEAD. Put a third plug in and towed it down the trail in third gear for a 1/2 mile... NOTHING DEAD. Finally pulled the plug and realized it wasn't sparking at all. We switched the CDI box, voltage reg, and coil packs between mine and my friends 2014 on the trail to no avail. We also checked the kill switch. Fast forward to today and I have pulled the side case to inspect the stator. You can see in the picture the bottom black winding, which by the manual looks to be the charging coil of the ignition is bubbled (not sure if that's normal). The maintenance book I have states at 68 degree, which my garage is maybe 75, the resistance should be 12-16.6 ohms. You can see right at the coil itself I'm getting around 9.7, and if measured at the bus connecter as the manual says, it reads about 10.1. All the other values for the coil pack and stator are perfectly within spec, and nothing is shorted to ground. I'm the original owner of the bike and haven't done anything but change the oil and clean the air filter. After all that my question is are those roughly 2 ohms enough to prevent the plug from sparking??? Alternator specs Lighting winding .1 ohms Battery winding .7 ohms Stator spec Pulse generator 100.1 ohms Coil pack Primary winding .3 secondary 6K ohms On a side note, I highly recommend the trails (what I saw) and the employees of Burning Rock. One of the maintenance guys rode 30 minutes with my friends, around the mountain, in the truck, to lead them to me... Super friendly folks. https://burningrockwv.com/
  5. So recently I decided it was time for me to get a dirt bike. After some research I decided on KTM 2 stroke the XC-W TPI models. Initially I was just looking for a 125cc to get started on but everywhere I went I was told to get a 250cc at least. I went to KTM branch close to my house and their seemed to be no height difference between the 125 all the way up to the 300. I use to ride road bikes in high school and some atv’s but never any dirt bikes. It has always been a passion of mine and during my divorce process I decided its time. So I got on the 250 XC-W TPI and struggled a little bit, but was told by the guy helping me it would be easier once I have all my gear on. I could get on and have my 1 foot touch the ground barely while the other is almost on the peg on the other side. I went ahead and bought the 2021 KTM 250XC-W TPI brand new. They added on my extra’s and delivered it to me Thursday Morning the 3rd of June. Living in a big city I knew I would not be able to ride for at least 2 weeks as I don’t have a means to transport the bike. My uncle has a farm about 200km’s out of town and he goes every weekend. There are also 3 tracks within a 50km radius. Being curious and overly excited I wanted to just drive it down my street and back up today after picking up all my gear. I put on my pants, jersey, gloves, boots, helmet and goggles. I rushed to the bike with excitement. Got next to it, and I could barely lift my feet above the bike with the help of my hand pushing it up. I got on half way with the bike still on the stand as I just wanted to see the fit first. Its an enduro bike so it has its own stand. As soon as I got on halfway I could feel my muscles starting to pull on the left side which is still touching the ground. My question is, how can I fix this. I really want to ride so badly. I am 172cm(5.64 foot, my height is just a guess) tall and about 90kg’s(198.416lbs) in weight without my gear on.
  6. As the title states I'm currently running a 2014 Husky FE450 .. brilliant bike has REGO for the road and comes with set of motard wheels+ dirt wheels oversize brakes + Rekluse clutch along with many enduro parts FC muffler etc so awesome 4st ... been awesome having a two in one kind of bike but as we know that can also mean its not perfect at either >> so yet again after many harder enduro rides over the summer ..I'm yearning for the new steed >>well prob 2x ... one likely to be a KTM duke ,, the other a pure enduro beast weight is my main issue with the 2014 FE450 >> 249lbs dry great 90% of the time ... but during some of the harder enduro sections in the mountains events locally it can really wear you out and if you for any reason have an issue the weight just compounds those issues ...usually this can see me making mistakes and ending rolling down hills then restarting in some horrible locations >>Rekluse auto clutch has been brilliant in helping I'm a converted ... pretty experience off-road-enduro rider 30yrs+ .. (along with near on 20x different dirt bikes over those years) 175lbs -6ft tall - fast -tech enduro focus mate had a 18 KTM 350exc thats 17lbs+ lighter ...I'm certainly tempted to checkout out 2017++ 350 .. FX,XCF,EXC,FE ... My last light enduro bike was an enduronlize 97 RM250 .... loved the 2ST fun factor so very light great suspension bad too low geared .... so also tempted to go down the 2017+ KTM 250xc / exc or HUSKY TE250 ...Gasgas (not a fan of the KTM 300exc I rode ..I like some top-end in my 2st + lighter feel ). So yes you can see I'm KTM owned bikes focused ..got a friend thats a KTM mechanic + I like the higher tech parts they come stock with ... I need not only lighter weight but decent fuel range ...also decent top speed 70mph + so 6spd
  7. Got a 2013 KTM 250 XC-W need some tire suggestions, I ride in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Yes I know those are very different areas to ride, but trying to find the best all around tires. Ride for fun, Muti-Day Enduros, single track, fire roads, gravel roads and some asphalt when going from trail to trail. Let me know what you like! I weigh about 200 pounds and am a senior rider and am an intermediate rider. Give me your suggestions... (Asking for my pops) Thank you...
  8. Hi guys, probably a stupid question here, but I figure you can never be too safe. I have some Motorex 15w-50 from my 2010 KTM 250 XC (which I sold) and I was wondering if it would be okay to run in my 2014 KTM 350 XC-F which calls for Motorex 10w-50? What would be the side effects of running a 15w-50 instead of a 10w-50? Also, if you have any suggestions of good oil to run, please feel free to recommend it and give your reasons why. Thanks guys.
