  1. Just bought a 2000 KX 250 two-stroke for a great deal when looking for a project bike. When I put the bike in neutral which is a little hard to find, it jumps into first gear by itself and trys to takeoff no matter if I squeeze the clutch lever or not. When I first started the bike it basically did a burnout in my garage with no throttle applied and the clutch lever pressed then it just stalls out eventually this happened for about five seconds. Attached are some pictures of my clutch disk and clutch basket from what I researched today the basket should not look this bad , but do you guys think? Is the clutch the source of my problems or is it something internal and would I need to split the case.
  2. Hi guys, this is my 1995 Kawasaki KX250 which I rebuilt from the ground up, it took almost 2 months to finish. I have a lot of videos on the channel documenting the rebuild in detail, showing all the work and parts. This work I did in 2 months to rebuild some parts, change the new other. Some parts reuse because still good condition, front forks and rear suspension I've just rebuild 6 months ago so no need do any more. Let's check it out of my work. Hi I just done a top end rebuild and a few other bits too my bike change the clutch cable,got it started sounded like a ticking sound coming from the engine after listen for a minute I think it’s coming from around the clutch area and it starts to tick faster if I rev it ? I disconnected the clutch cable and still was ticking. Even if I push it with the bike off I can here it . The bike won’t go into gear at all now it feels as if it’s half in gear and then clicks out any body able to help me ? New here thanks 😃👍
  4. I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran amazing after it first bought it used. I was riding one day with a bogging issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb,checked the reeds,and tried hill starting it but nothing .When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies.There is spark coming from the plug though.I took the cylinder off and the piston and cylinder are &%$#@!ed.The piston rings were stuck in the grooves and I had to use pliers and a screwdriver to get it out.There was a ton of blow-by and the cylinder was scored.I bought a new piston already but how can I fix my cylinder.Im thinking of getting it repaired and replayed by either millennium,PowerSeal USA, or usnicom.This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.
  5. I thought i would share my adventures with my new IT490. I have been looking for one of these for the last 2 years and yesterday i was able to finally bring one home. In my search for the 490 i acquired 2 other IT's, a 82 IT250 and a 84 IT200 . I really like the IT200, it is one of my favorite bikes. I liked it enough i all but gave up on the 490. A couple weeks ago one came up for sale close by. You my have seen my other post about IT490 value. While the bike looked ok i felt it was overpriced so i didnt go after the bike. Then Tuesday I was looking at the bike section on cl in the Portland Oregon area to see if anything caught my eye. What did i see, an IT490. I gave the guy a call and we talked for almost an hour. The bike was what i was looking for , still a little more than i wanted to spend but it was clean and ready to go. Brand new top end on a fresh bore, new chain and sprockets, newer tires, new brakes, clutch cables , new DG pipe, new tank with decals and some other miscellaneous parts. All original plastic , seat, tool bag and fork boots. Odometer works and so do the lights. Rims, hubs and spokes are in excellent shape. Paint is still good and no frame damage. This bike was a true low hour machine, you can tell it wasn't used a lot or thrashed on. I do need to fix the kickstand. Today was the shake down and test out. Drained the tank and filled it back up with 92 ethanol free at 32:1. Bike fired off with the 3rd kick. Now before i bought the bike i did all the reading on the jetting issue. This bike ran ok but i could tell the jetting was off. I rode it around the property for a couple mile and felt it out. Clutch felt good and shifted smooth. Brakes work good for drums and overall handling was fine. With the jetting off it was a little blubbering off the bottom. After a few jetting tweaks and a mod to the slide i got her running pretty darn good. You hear stories about how wild and vicious the 490 is . Not this bike. Good strong smooth power with a moderate hit. Best way to describe the bike is ktm300. This is a very pleasant motor, more usable than i thought it would be. I big issue with the bike and i knew it would be is the suspension, its too soft. Tomorrow im ordering up some new springs that should fix her up. I did change the handle bars out today with a bend i like along with some hand guards. Besides the suspension i don't think i need to buy anything else for the bike All in all I'm pleased with the bike. I think its going to work out well. I will keep posting my progress with setting up the bike . I will also put some go pro vids up on my future rides. Stay tuned. I should ad this is not going to be a garage queen but will be ridden.

  7. Good day I have been having a problem with my spark plugs. Every 0.5-1 hour of riding the bike will begin to miss fire due to the spark plug insulator being cracked just below the electrode. (exactly the same everytime) The plug has some oil on it as, expected, but nothing close to causing oil fouling. 2018 ktm 250 xcw (carb) nothing has changed with the bike, the problem suddenly started at random. I have been through roughly 8 plugs (ngk br7es) and it continues, bike runs perfectly with a new plug until the it breaks once again. All jetting seems good and as I said this problem started suddenly and randomly as the bike had been running without a single problem since I have had it. a new piston and rings were installed at 60 hours and the problem still continues exactly the same. Thanks in advanced 50:1 oil ratio (moterx) as I have always 55 hours on 1 plug and then 8 within less than 10 hours??? this isnt my spark plug but the damage to the white insulator is similar
  8. On my bike there are 1 bolt on each side of the body near the forks that make sure that the forks don’t hit the radiator. Well I crashed and one of those bolts is bent to the point where It’s like it’s not there, do I need to replace it to jump and if so where would I get this? Has this happened to anyone else?

  10. Ok so I got an 01 kx250 about 2 and a half months ago, it’s super snappy and throttle response is amazing. I foul plugs literally every ride, the plug is black every time as well. I run 32:1 with Honda racing oil. My gear oil is a little low but it’s negligible imo since the time that has been on it since I replaced it (around 4 hours ago). The bike smokes a lot on start up and smokes even when hot. I know it’s probably a jetting issue but would gear oil constantly be smoking as described and I don’t smell gear oil burning. It spooges quite a bit also. I’m new to 2 strokes been on 4t most of my life any help would be appreciated.
  11. I have yet to get my rm 80 running, I noticed when I push my bike in gear and hold the clutch it does nothing, the clutch doesn’t take the bike out of gear. I took apart the clutch plates and they looked good no notches or damage, I cleaned them of old oil and put new oil on them. I am just confused at this point
  12. Hi, I’ve picked up a Suzuki ds 100 with a 125 top end I believe which I am in the process of re building. Before I took it apart it would start and run very rough and spray fuel out of the intake and would rev up and down on its own. I have had a look at the reeds and they seem fine. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.
  13. Can I put regular car oil in a 2stroke transmission. My bike manual says to put 10w30 or 40 and I want to know if I can put regular car oil or do I have to put a special kind? My bike is a kdx80 bored out to and 85 if that's important.
  14. Hey everyone. Its my first time ever touching a 2 stroke engine so sorry for my vocab. So I have a cr250 2002 that I recently purchased with a full motor with good trans and the top end taken off since it wasnt working properly. The case had a small whole where the crank spins on the bottom causing the fuel to leak out. The guy gave me the bike with the full engine and a extra taken apart same engine he had with the good casing. So my question is that I am going to be putting a full rebuild kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CR-250R-WISECO-ENGINE-REBUILD-KIT-CRANKSHAFT-PISTON-GASKETS-2002-2004/190811143511 its a weisco top and bottom end. The kit doesnt come with tranny bearings so should I replace them while I am there or should I be good the bearings spins ok with no weird movement. Also which one is better wiesco bottom end or a hot rods for 2 storkes. Thank you and stay safe out there!

  16. So I have a 2003 CR125R and I did a compression test on it and only had about 130 psi. So I took the cylinder to my local mechanic to get it checked out and it turns out the cylinder bore was up to spec. So I had it narrowed down to the piston and rings. I put a new top end in and the ring gap was in spec So therefore the cylinder is fine. After breaking in the new top end I did another compression test and it was only about 135 psi. Does anyone know how I could be losing compression? I also checked the reeds and they are fine as well. Thanks
  17. Hey all. I have a 2004 yz 250 that I’m looking for a full coverage skid plate for? I’ve looked around and can’t really Find any full coverage skids? Do you guys have any recommendations for a company that makes them anymore? I can find a bunch for 05 and up but nothing for 04. Thanks y’all
  18. First time here and needing help to figure this out thanks in advance. My bike has been giving me issues and I can’t figure it out. Bike runs good on low idle no problem as soon as I go W.O.T or higher revs bike will start sounding as if it’s a 4stroke and it shuts off slowly. Doesn’t do it 100% of time but half the time yes. Then I have to wait about 2 minutes to turn back on. I ended up taking the top end apart and found that the exhaust side of cylinder and piston are scored I can catch my nail on scratch’s. I’m sending cylinder to get done and installing new piston just want to prevent and figure out why it’s happening. Bike has 70hours and I’m pretty sure top end was never done.
  19. sorry for the bad pics. every time i take my spark plug out of my 05 yz125 it looks like this but i always just put a new one in and forget about it. i’m pretty sure i am running too rich but i’m not too sure. i mix my gas 40:1 and do mostly trails. 1st and 2nd gear always feels a little like clogged up and i don’t know if it has to do with this.
  20. Ladies and gentlemen, if you could shed some quick light on this topic and give some quick help that would be great. My dear ole dad and I are planning a trip out to Moab Utah around late June, definitely the hot season. My father has a 2013 ktm 250 xc, great bike, runs perfectly with no problems. However, if you take a quick look at the hour counter, it reads 197😬. I told my dad that it should be in his best interest to at least do a top end rebuild on his bike before we take a couple runs on the 100 mile trail, so he doesn’t end up walking half of it. He is convinced that since the bike is still running well, and it is not showing any issues, “it would be pointless to spend money on a rebuild kit”. Despite my best efforts to explain that rings will simply wear out over time and even a well kept lightly ridden bike should be rebuilt every 80 or 100 hours or so, I just can’t seem to convince him. If any of you could give a quick in depth explanation on why he shouldn’t even think about running this risk through the middle of the desert, that would be great. Thank you

  22. Hi all, My bike (02' KTM 200 EXC) has been sat in the garage for 4 weeks (corona virus wont allow me to go out). I tried to start it to bring it up to temp and run it up and down the road however it would not start. Decided to strip to check the spark plug and found the plug in the condition (THIS PLUG HAS DONE 20 HOURS) ***PHOTO BELOW***. WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS PLUG FOULED? Now I have always run this bike with Motorex @ 50:1 and last time I checked the plug it looked like this (THIS PLUG HAD DONE AROUND 5 HOURS) ***PHOTO BELOW***. The last time i ran the bike for a bit of laining i tried Motul 700 2T and ran this at 55:1... could this oil be the culprit in this situation or could their be something else at play here? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT! Cheers, Ollie
  23. I have have a spare motor for my 2005 yz125. My current motor that came with the bike had some massive issue which blew a hole below the primary gear. So bought a backup. The backup is completely stripped, no bearing or studs. I have relieved the cases for to run a 144 setup ( current motor cylinder is a EG144). What mods, polishing, etc.. do people do for performance?. Really don’t care if related to noticeable power or not. Just having fun. Some questions I have: * polish head * polish top of cases where Intake enters * anything to do near the reed valves to improve atomization Any thoughts from those considering themselves to be a 2S guru?

  25. Acerbis 3.1 gallon tank for $210 vs IMS 3.0 gallon tank for $290. Any reason to go with one over another? Is the IMS tank worth the extra $ for a little less capacity? Anyone have any photos of either tank installed on your ride?
