  1. Over the course of my time operating MotoMission Peru, I have had various opportunities to host/guide dirt bike adventures with other riders. I have a special place in my heart for father/son adventures. I guess it must have something to do with the sentiment I have with my dad. Official MotoMission Tour Video...Check the others on our Youtube Channel Dirtbikes and Dads go together When Tony and Joran contacted me about doing a tour, my excitement level rose. A father/son combo with limited dirt bike experience would be a challenge, but a welcome one. I normally cater to seasoned riders, but his one would put a different pressure on me as the guide. I needed to push these guys to their limits, while completing a route within our time frame of four days. The terrain needed to fit both the skill level and the distance we needed to cover each day. The fellas wanted to roll their tires over some amazing parts of Peru, get some mind blowing pics, and live to tell about it. A face with a smile tells a story My work was cut out for me. I put Joran on a crf 230 because of his size and experience. Dad, Tony, was on the Husky 300, I rode a Honda 450x. I figured I could swap out with one of them if I needed. Bike selection worked out perfectly. The route itself was ideal. It was a mix of single track, some rough two track, and some free ride(go where ever you want) type of stuff. It was perfect to try a hand at hill climbs, scare oneself silly on rock fixtures, and put the tires on the edge of mountain ledges to make the heart flutter a bit. The ride was fantastic. Tony and Joran both expanded their riding level to new heights. In fact, I was able to coach the guys on various little riding tricks that someone showed me along my journey. Stand up more, focus eyes on where you want to go, as well as some mechanics of body positioning and how it relates to traction and control. It was a bit of a seminar/riding school/test day. No doubt that the guys are better riders now. I thoroughly enjoyed that part of the tour. The view they wanted to see! When it all boils down, we had a fantastic four days of riding. Each were pushed to the limit various times each day. When the heads hit the pillows each night, it took no time for the sleep to begin. Smiles were abundant, and there were no shortages of whoops, hollars, and high fives. Certainly another successful tour! MotoMission Peru is a social enterprise operated by Scott Englund. If you want to see the Andes via dirtbike, this is how to do it. High quality in every aspect. Service, guide, routes, equipment, and overall experience cannot be beat. Contact Scott via Thumpertalk messaging or at scott@motomissionperu.com for more information.
  2. I like the color scheme of the 2019 CRF450X so I am in the process of giving my 2009 CRF450X a 2019 ish facelift. The parts that I found to be direct bolt ons are: Red headlight Visor Black rear caliper guard Black rear rotor guard The 2019 front fender could work by drilling holes in it to mount it to the triple clamp, but then custom brackets would be required to mount the headlight visor. I like the 2009 front fender enough to keep it for now. The 2019 fork guards and front brake covers do not bolt up to the 09 forks, so I used Acerbis fork guards. I got rid of my odometer with a Flatland Racing wheel spacer and a new wheel seal from Honda. And I used some spare hardware to retain the cable bracket that is mounted under the odometer. Next I plan to install an 08 red rear fender, all new side plastics and custom graphics. And I might order the black hardware for the rear brake guards but that’s getting really picky.
  3. Hey guys....need some advice and/or a really good mechanic in San Diego very familiar with the 450x. Problem started last year....bought a low hour 2007 450x which always seemed somewhat hard to crank over. The starter would hang up quite a bit, etc. The bike had a major backfire problem which I summed up to the stock pipe having the baffle removed and bad jetting. I bought a JD jetting kit, installed an MRD full system pipe and the night before a 600 mile Baja ride the starter finally gave out (bike/starter prob had 45 hours total). I kicked the bike the whole trip which sucked especially because it took 30 kicks cold. After the bike was warm....no problem, bike ran great and started easy the rest of the trip...well except for a few times. I thought maybe I had a lean problem etc but am running a 45 pilot which should be fine....tried a 48 but the bike ran worse during testing and bogged like crazy. Soooooo....I just rebuilt the carb, new jets, new hoses, rubber everywhere, new float & adjusted, new slide plate rubber, cleaned, blew it out, etc..I'm pretty confident this isn't a carb issue at this point. I replaced the accelerator pump lever set, diaphragm, leak jet down to a 60.....this of course shouldn't affect starting though. New boots and clamps on both sides of the carb. New starter. New cam chain tensioner (went ahead and replace since it was off....one thing to note was that while taking the old one out, it slipped while winding it up and wound back out but didn't seem too hard). New spark plug. Could this be a valve issue? Bike now has approx 65 hours total. I'm frustrated as I've done everything to get this thing tip-top.....it's my Baja Mex bike and I need it solid. I doubt the cam chain slipped a tooth but possible maybe? I'm thinking whatever it is was a problem from before. I've heard of some other adjustment of some decompression of something as well.... I'm not going to mess with the valves or anything motor related so I think I'm about to pass this off to a mechanic at this point. I'm always skeptical to take my bikes into the shop because I'm meticulous and I usually do a better job with things I "can" do. Anybody know of a SOLID mechanic around San Diego County? North coastal area is ideal but central San Diego also ok.
  4. I’m adding a fan to my 2009 CRF450X and I’m looking for a +12V power wire to use as my fan relay trigger power source. I want the fan relay to be armed when the bike is running, but I want the fan to shut off automatically if the engine stops. I’ve searched the forums for hours and stared at the factory wiring schematic in my manual and I just don’t see an obvious engine-on power-wire to tap into. I’m attaching a pic of the schematic. I tested the LED tail light wires and they always have power. I’m guessing I need to tap into one of the wires from the rectifier or the Ignition Control Module but I’m worried about frying something and not being able ride this weekend. So who on here can tell me what wire they’re using for a 12v power on indicator / trigger wire?
  5. Hello, during oil change i broke cranckcase in my Honda CRF450X 2006. Crack is on the edge so I can't weld this. My question is can i buy cranckcase from CRF450R? Do these bikes have the same motor? Thanks for responding
  6. I accidentally posted twice, sorry
  7. I've got a 2005 450X that I have been having some starter issues with. The problem started with the e start going out, so I replaced the starter motor and got a brand new oem yuasa battery (yes I got the correct kind)... it helped but the starter would hesitate and then crank over up to speed after it overcame the hesitation. After researching this I decided to replace the starter clutch. After putting it all together with a brand new starter clutch assembly, the kickstarter is turning the starter motor. I assume it is not because of the clutch because I just replaced it. Let me know if you have had this issue or know what it might be. Thanks.
  8. I was along for a lovely ride from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon on my 2007 crf 450 X. The engine had been running great, even at the high elevation of Flagstaff. Jetting was perfect and cooling was excellent. I was just ripping along wide open I had a sudden engine catastrophe. It went *clatter clatter clatter* and I grabbed the clutch lever, rolled to stop, and wept. But don't worry because this story has a happy ending. The bike is fixed and working beautifully now; actually it's better than ever and will likely become my next desert/rally race bike. Upon draining the oil, here's what I found. Copper/gold colored metal chunks.
  9. I recently bought a 07 CRF450X and it is dirt ready, however living in Oregon, does anyone know what the state/feds require from me to make it street legal, and register it with plates?
