    KTM 500 EXC (2013)

Love this machine. Love it love it love it. KTM took the market with this one. I've modded back to an offroad with new springs front and rear, XCW tail light, handguard embedded turn signals, full FMF exhaust, Renthal FatBars, Trailtech risers, extended throttle cables, WARP9 dirt and a set of WARP9 Supermoto, custom graphics, Trailtech lighting, trailtech voyager with CNC mount, JD jet map control and a Rekluse. Rips on the dirt and rips on the street. I prefer the dirt overall though.

    Outstanding dual sport performance.

Bought it for woods riding, flat tracking and supermoto. A bit of a compromise for each, but probably the best bike made to do all three.

The 500 EXC is one of the most powerful standard production Enduro racing machines available on the market. The combination of light weight and high-capacity, high-tech, SOHC 4-stroke technology is the right choice for all those seeking maximum, yet controllable 4-stroke performance. Combined with playful handling, this powerhouse is regarded without doubt as the benchmark in its class. Outstanding dual sport. Now that the intense 4T vibration issue has been solved it is even better. Tires wear out quickly on the street. Beautiful bike that is a one of a kind in the market.

The only change I made was the gearing from 15/45 to 13/48 which uses the same chain. I can go very slow in 1st & up to 18 mph easily. There is a nice overlap between gears & I can pull the front wheel up in 3rd without popping the clutch. It is an awesome bike.

It's still new to me, but, it's the best bike I've ridden by far.

    KTM 500 EXC (2012)

  18. Is it bad not to have kick starter? Dealer told me all new 2017 models don't have it anymore Bike is a bit lighter but this feature was good to have as a backup.
  19. I have my mind set on buying a new 2017 500 EXC, just have to find one as there are none in stock at any of the dealerships anywhere near me. Are motorcycle dealerships like auto dealers where if they can locate a model they can arrange for the vehicle to be swapped? Is it easy enough for a dealer to get a bike, provided there is one available?
  20. I need some feedback on gearing. I have a 500EXC which came with 15/45 gearing. First gear was about the same as my last Honda motocross bike, while sixth gear was so high you have to be going 65 mph, to shift into it an cruise at 80. I put on a 14 tooth countershaft and it really feels lower. First gear is low enough for must stuff so far, and 6th gear seems about right for 55 mph cruising without over- revving the motor in the highway between trails. My question is this: I keep reading that everyone with a 350/450/500 off road model is using either a 14/48, 13/48, or 14/50 combination. I can't see how 6th gear doesn't end up the same as a close ratio 5 speed with one of these combinations. Remember, I have NOT tried any of these, so I'm reaching out for some feedback?
  21. Wish I could show you some pics of this one in my driveway, but dealer pics are still pretty good. Good looking bikes, but I wonder why they didn't run the EXCs w black rims like the XC-Ws. http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2015-KTM-500-EXC-112947471
