The RM125 seems to be in good condition. It has recently had a full engine rebuild. My CR85R is in good condition and I just rebuilt my top end and put a new rear shock and wheel assembly on it. Do you all think this would be a good trade and why or why not?

I’m 14 and my rm85 smokes so much and my power valve is making a lot of rattling noise. I took off the cover and it had a lot of black residue and there was a puddle of it under my power valves and so I cleaned it with contact cleaner and took out the power valves and looked at them and they had little scores on the top and some (but not too much) carbon on the top and bottom sides. So I cleaned them off and put some oil on them and popped them back in and I started it with the cover off and they were barely doing anything except for rattle I got along with EVERYTHING else. The previous owner honed it out and it is nikasil so idk if that has anything to to with it smoking of not but I haven’t had the chance to go get it replated because I don’t have $250. I ran it all sorts of ratios and the manual said to run it 30:1 but when I run it 50:1 it still smokes a lot and way too much and I use motorx oil. Hi there I have a brand new 2018 yz 85 and it has not been starting as of late. It will fire up for a second but then when u try to give it some gas it will bog out and stall while in neutral. The spark plugs won't even last a week in my bike is there something i need too and how can i get it to start. Thank you!!

Hi, I'm new to the forums! I'm looking at buying a dirtbike in a few months and not sure what to get. This will be the first dirtbike I've ever owned but I'm an intermediate rider from riding peoples' bikes every so often. I'm 5'9 184lbs and I'm looking at a 2stroke because of easier and cheaper maintainance and you can't go wrong with the powerband. I'm looking at getting an 85 either yz, rm, or kx. Most of the riding a plan on doing is ripping around in a field and occasionally some trail riding, nothing hardcore. Would an 85 be a decent choice? Thanks

I replaced the transmission on an '05 kx85, and ive put the cases back together and everything spins freely, it shifts through all the gears, but once you put that tensioner thing that presses on the shift drum (dont know what the part's called) you cant shift into 3rd, itll get stuck halfway between second and 3rd, but once you take off that tensioner thing you can spin the drum and shift through all the gears just fine, whats going on?

Hi I’m 15 and I’m from Ireland. I can’t decide what bike to buy. I have no experience on dirt bikes(only small road bikes). I have been riding quads with about 10 years and I’m looking for a change. I can’t decide what to get a yz 125 or 85 since I’m only 5 4 and 55 kg. I have a lot of experience on quads so I’m not afraid of speed and power but I really don’t know much about bikes. Any advice would be appreciated .

im am 13, 100 pounds (with gear) and currently ride a 08 yz85 and am looking to move up. first off im not rich and i have to pay for my own stuff, i am not going to be racing i mainly just ride track and trails here and there also some desert sinlge track. i am debating on witch i should get next a yz125 or a yz250f. i can handle the power i have riddden both a 125 2 stroke and a 250f and i basically fell in love with both so i am in a predicament on what whould be best. anything helps

Hey guys, I just sold my yz80, for $1100. Im down to two choices for a new dirt bike to buy, a 2003 cr125r, or a 2007 rm85 big wheel. I sold my 80 because i outgrew it, and im ready for a faster bike. Im only 5'3, so I know i wont be able to touch both feet on the 125, its got a freestyle seat, so it sits a little lower. Then, the rm85 is a big wheel, but i already outgrew my 80, and i dont know if the rm85 will be much faster. I rode my 80 amazing, i ride enduro/trail and I go to mx tracks to practice often. Let me know on what bike you guys think i should get. (By the way, my brother has a cr125 as well, and ive rode it and control the power well.) -
I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran amazing after it first bought it used. I was riding one day with a bogging issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb,checked the reeds,and tried hill starting it but nothing .When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies.There is spark coming from the plug though.I took the cylinder off and the piston and cylinder are &%$#@!ed.The piston rings were stuck in the grooves and I had to use pliers and a screwdriver to get it out.There was a ton of blow-by and the cylinder was scored.I bought a new piston already but how can I fix my cylinder.Im thinking of getting it repaired and replayed by either millennium,PowerSeal USA, or usnicom.This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.

I have a 2002 yz85 and when you start it up, it will idle really low then once you rev it up a little, it will start to idle normally but then after a couple seconds it just drops back down to a really low idle like its about to stall out. What could be causing this? After doing some research it sounds like it might be a crank seal leak, but i really hope not. Could it be anything else causing this? And if it is a crank seal leak, would it require splitting cases to replace? I also just cleaned out the carb and put fresh 32:1 in it.

Hi, I have a 2008 KTM85 carb issue, for some reason the carb is filling with 2T oil with very little petrol with it. My petrol to oil mix is completely fine and when I take petrol straight from the petcock it’s a good mix. However there’s just oil in the carb! I have no clue on why this is happening, Any advice would be much appreciated! Many Thanks L

Hi there! I was wondering could you put Crf150r plastics on a 2006 CR85? I have seen you can do the front fender conversion but will that require a new number plate? And is it possible to do a rear fender too or no? Thanks for the help!

Hi guys, my friend is selling his 2007 RM85 for $500 right now and I need to hear more opinions on if it is worth it or not. I believe that it has a blown top end, the forks are out of oil, radiators have no fluids, and its overall a kind of ratty bike. I want to buy it from him and do a top end, clean it up, re-do the fork seals and fill the forks up, and just rebuild it in general. Is this worth the $500? I do NOT want to have to replate this thing or do a bottom end. I want to fix it up and make money. Is it worth it? -
i bought a used 2014 ktm 85 sx for the kids. Our first KTM, possibly a mistake, but, moving right along. The clutch was draging badly, not disengaging So I pulled it, and found a disaster. 3 extra metal plates installed, 2 at the back, one at the front with all the teeth torn or ground off. Worn friction discs. Metal clutch plate teeth here and there. I havent pulled the gearbox yet - that's next. The basket is also worn to hell, notches in the fingers. KTM clearly does not make these bikes to last. Anyway. New friction discs and new plates (Tusk kit), and I havent reassembled it yet, as I don't think the stack is thick enough. The top pressure plate bottoms out, before the discs take up. Any tips on how thick the whole stack should be and how much the top pressure plate should clear? Nothing in the manual I can find other than min thickness per plate. Thanks Paul

So i Just recieved a 85 honda xr350r for free from my dads buddy unfortunately it does not run atm. And by that I mean the motor is almost completely disassembled in a box lol... and that's how my dad's buddy had bought it. it was taken apart due to a faulty bearing is what he was told...which one I'm not sure(couple pics I'm pointing to the bearings I need) but guys i need info I dont know where to get these bearings or what the part numbers are and i really wanna replace all the bearings in the engine so if anyone has any info it would be much appreciated. Overall the bikes in great condition for the year! The cranks nice and tight even the piston and the rings look good, so im fairly positive it was a bearing because 1 or 2 of them barely turn and stick.i woukd really like to bring this beast back to life so if anyone has any info about where to get those parts or part number or another motor I could interchange parts from that would be awesome!! Hi everyone, my 2004 CR85 is making this wierd noise in the top end when it is reved, it’s sounds like there isn’t a piston in there and the Conod is just bouncing of the cylinder walls. I am keeping this bike forever so I am restoring it soon, I decided to start off with a top end rebuild completely oem, and I’ve done stuff like all the suspension bearings, new gearshift shaft and shifter etc. When I did the top end, the cylinder walls looked immaculate and the crank had no up and down play but ALOT of side to side play, I’m thinking that is why it makes the noise. I’m currently restoring a Running 1983 KX80 I picked up for $400 and have torn down the motor for a complete rebuild. My point is the oem crank that’s in it has less side to side play than my CR and the bike is 35 years old. I’ve heard that I could be jetting because the bike also had a hanging idle because of the full pc exhaust so I lowered the Clip on the jet, it is definitely rich now judging by the spooge now coming from the silencer, spark plug and sound but it still makes that noise, does anyone know what it could be?, it also makes a noise coming from the flywheel that sounds like water evaporating as in cold water poured on something hot.

Hi I got a second hand KTM85SX recently and the guy said it’s had a 110 top end rebuild. He warned me it was powerful. Anyway, it runs really well but it’s a bit too aggressive on the throttle. I’m a newbie and not interested in “race performance”, so I’d like to try and calm it down a bit. Can I do this by adjusting the carb? I’d just like a little less pull in the first quarter turn of the throttle. At the moment you have to be very gentle with the first part of the throttle or the back end just fishtails! All advice appreciated! P.S. I have some experience adjusting the carb jetting on a Suzuki RM85 to do the opposite of what I’m talking about here. It was bogging and didn’t have enough power, so I adjusted the pilot jet clip and it works fine now. So I’m wondering if you can do the opposite... -

I have a 2003 cr 85 it will not start. I’ve just replaced both crank seals. Air filter. Cleaned carb. Replaced plug. Repacked silencer. Rebuilt top end. And still will not start unless bump started. Once warm it will stall when your off the throttle. Could my stator be bad to the point it doesn’t give enough spark to get it running? Or is this a fuel issue? Thanks in advance

I have a '02 yz85 and today I replaced the right side crank seal, head o-rings, and swapped out the head for a VHM performance head. I also put a FMF SST pipe on it with a FMF Shorty. The bike has been working perfectly all day, other than running poorly since i need to rejet. But no other problems then that. I came into the garage about 5 hours after riding, and noticed that when I turned the kickstart over, theres some grinding noise. It did not do this after I put it back together, it just started out of nowhere. While I was putting the clutch back together I noticed the shaft the clutch goes on moves in and out, I called my friend who has replaced the clutch on his 85 and he said it was normal and his was the exact same, so I didnt worry about it. After I put it back together it was not making this noise, and didnt make it after riding either. Just started out of nowhere. Heres a vid to show what it sounds like. I don't remember it ever making this noise. I took the clutch apart to make sure nothing was wrong, I didnt find anything wrong except a little gasket maker that got onto the clutch since I put too much. Doesnt feel like theres any resistance while kicking it over, in the video the spark plug is out. Help?

Hey guys, my brothers YZ 85 has a problem. It all started with the bike not starting, I then checked the spark plug and found that it was all black. This seemed to not be premix oil, but gear oil (I think??). So we changed the right side crankshaft seal, and also cleaned the carb, and did a top end on it. Started right back up and drove fine for about 5-10 hours. Today when he went to start the bike, the bike would not start, pulled the plug, and well it was all black again. Could the problem be something else than the crankshaft seal? Could it really just be the carb settings? All help/suggestions is appreciated! -
