  1. Shocking, a Beta in a VitalMX test. I haven't read it yet, it's breaking news and wanted to share it 1st. https://www.vitalmx.com/features/2020-Vital-MX-450-Off-Road-Shootout-Enduro-Bikes,6911
  2. Has anyone done a valve check on a 2019 Beta 390 RRS. What is the trick to getting the valve cover off? Any other tips for doing the valve check? Is finding TDC straight forward?
  3. I have an 08 450 RS (06 KTM RFS motor with FCR39MX carb) and while living another day in the state of Quarantinia I thought what better to do than try to address the slight bog I have on this old but dependable bike. Its totally stock with a JD jet kit using the JD specs for 0-4000 ft. It also has that JD accelerator pump spacer on it to shorten the stroke of the pump. I installed one of those flexible fuel screws about a year ago and always needed to have the screw out about 2.5 to 3 turns (prior screw too). The bike ran ok but bogged no matter what the "timing" I set on the acc pump. In the past I had asked advice and someone had suggested a 40-45 leak jet (from the 65 in it) might help the situation and so I got one about one month back, but never found the time to install it. So I decided today would be the day. I should also say that about a month and a half ago, when cleaning the carb and looking to see the size of the leak I noticed that the throttle plate gasket had a chunk missing from it (see picture and notice the notch on the left side) so I got a new one of those too. I took the carb out, changed the gasket to the new one and changed the leak to a 45, all without any event. I put the carb back in the bike and noticed two things. The previous idle setting resulted in the bike idling way higher (no tach but at least 50% higher than before) and the fuel screw setting was now optimal around one turn out (at zero turns out the motor bogs but does not die and at 2 turns our the motor bogs again). There's still a little bit of bog (better but not perfect) if you hit the throttle hard, so no major whellies (I probably don't need any as I'm in my 60's) and the bike runs pretty good otherwise. I don't believe the leak could be responsible for the change but could it be that gasket? I'll admit I'm not the most experienced motorcycle mechanic and I believe I got everything else in right (float is good height, etc). It just seems odd that this one gasket could have that big an effect. Could use a little advice from anyone more experienced with this sort of thing. Thanks
  4. Howdy knowledgeable people. So I have followed some of the suggestions to help with the clutch drag on my 2017 500 RR-S such as reducing the basket nut torque, scrubbing in the plates, etc. I use the std Transoil lubricant, which works better for me than other options I have tried. But after riding my 2020 300RR with absolutely zero clutch drag, I observe that I still get some on the 500RR-S, which is annoying. Mostly from what I read on the forums and discussing with my very knowledgeable dealer is that this is simply a "feature" of the 2017 design and got better in future engine iterations. My question is whether you folks who have used a Rekluse with this bike find that it eliminates any of the clutch drag issues? I would think that it would since that is basically what the Rekluse is supposed to do. Might be a fun project and keep me from getting interested in buying something new. Other than this issue, the bike runs strong, is reliable, and lots of fun. Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated. Mark
  5. Hi I am looking at a 16 430RR. Is the main wiring harness there for turn signals and horn? Can't really tell forsure searching old posts. Thanks
  6. hello. I know by experience that depending of bikes and their design, different parts are more exposed to break during hard crashes. One of my friends just eat water hoses on his husky, by example. Seems each time there 's a rock , i will have to help him with neat repair. Another one on his Honda is a radiator killer.... I already had good crashes with my 19 390 rr, made a rear suspension link protection, and another home made PU protection for the clutch case... Found that on same terrain ( and same mistakes 😉 ) the swing arms were less scratched than my honda.... I know of course it mainly depends of playground, rider style, Murphy's law too, etc ... Of course, I can transfom bike like a medieval castle, but when I look by example at hydraulic clutch receiver, it seems well back in frame and rather protected... What are your crashing experiences and results on bike, with the 4 strokes beta ? Thanks
  7. Guys, last ride I had the engine light come on and stayed on for a bit. I stopped for a while and ensured no holes in case or anything else visible i could see. Bike got hot as usual but didnt seem to peak, fan comes on around 95 and cools it down. I seen a few 100s but nothing crazy. I removed seat and tried to make sure any connections i could get at easy were tight, light still on during restart. I keep riding due to reading stories of others with this issue off and on. Eventually light just goes off and stays off. Important to note bike worked 100% during light on times. So, my plan it to when changing oil I will remove tank etc so i can clean it well and likely check valves too at this time. With bike torn down a bit I will check all connections. Anything else TT would recommend or is this a bit of a gremlin?
  8. I did a search and didn't come up with much useful info. I'm sure this is an age old question but...how long can I leave gas in my 2017 430RS and still expect it to run well ? Thanks all.
  9. Will have backed off a little with the riding due to the Virus only got 16 hrs on the bike. Thought I had better check the valves I normally do this at 10 hours. The left hand inlet was a little tight and the right hand inlet was on minimum spec this is been the case for all my Beta's is so far from new. On a positive note you can get the rocker cover off now without removing the upper engine mounts yay I know it sounds silly but I was excited by this. I still needed remove the left hand engine mount which is much easier than the older models as getting to the left hand inlet valve to check the clearance was hard with that installed. One other point I tried to remove the spark plug however could not there is no supplied spark plug tool anymore and my 14 mm socket is too big to fit down the spark plug hole guess ill have to buy another one a machine it to suit a very tight fit between the frame and the hole through the rocker cover. I also tried the old spark plug tool supplied from my previous bike I did not fit.
  10. Any one have recommendations for brake lever guards for a stock 2018 Beta 125 RR-S
  11. Nearing completion of resurrecting a 2011 400 factory edition. It has a Factory Edition muffler with no spark arrestor currently in it. I need a sparky for my uses. Trying to decide on using the quiet insert spark arrestor vs the regular. Does the quiet make much difference in noise? Much difference in power?
  12. God this things tight. I did it once before without removing the exhaust but don’t remember what I did. Whats the trick?(its a 2016 350 rr)
  13. Any idea what to adjust the suspension (preload, compression, rebound) to for sand AND what to change it to for rocky singletracks? I weigh 215lbs with my gear. I’m not new to riding, just the black art of adjustable suspension and tuning.
  14. New here, does anyone know if or what a good aftermarket carb is to replace a Keihin FCR-MX 39 is? I just picked up a 2002 Beta 525r and it's missing the carb. Looks to be in real good shape otherwise. Thanks, Eric
  15. 17 Beta 500 RRS. The other day I went to start the bike after sitting for 10 days and there was nothing. No fuel pump, no lights totally dead. It has a newer lithium battery so I charged it and it started fine. I've had the bike since new and never had a problem with the battery going dead. And no I didn't leave the key on. Yesterday I stopped to help a fallen rider and the bike would not restart. No juice anywhere. Just like the battery was dead. Pulled the seat and checked every fuse, all good. Pulled the headlight off and moved some wires around and the power came back. This morning no matter what we tried it wouldn't start. No juice anywhere. The battery may be dead again. I've read similar posts like this but I can't seem to find them now. Any help would be appreciated
  16. opinions regarding filters on FCR vent tubes. do these vents suck in dirt...new to me?
  17. Wondering how long it takes and if any special tools are necessary? tia D
  18. Has anyone put on a longer front brake cable. I mounted something to my handlebars and it stagged the cable. Now it has a bend in it and doesn't slide up and down the way I want. WHo has a longer one, where did you get it?
  19. Last weekend I bought a 2012 520 RS and took it to the local off road park which is very sandy and the bike was really squirrely with the current tires. I'm looking to get new tires that are better for the sand, what would you guys recommend that's DOT? Looking online I'm getting conflicting sizes, does anyone know what the largest size tires this bike can fit? Thanks
  20. I have a beta 500rr s. What temperature should the fan come on. coolant was coming out the overflow while riding in a sand wash. when I noticed it the fan was not on and temp was 260.
  21. Hello all. I'm looking for a 125RR-S for my wife. If you have one for sale, or know of any please let me know. Thanks, Chuck
  22. Uh, let's just say that 'fit' and 'finish' are not part of the Polisport vocabulary. Gaps everywhere Thin plastic Turns white if you ding them Undersize shrouds So sad. I was looking forward to the Red plastics on my '19, but they look like someone put on shrouds from another brand of bike....
  23. https://www.endurospec.com/beta.html Forks at second line, rear at 25/105, 130 M5B rear, GT 216AAF front, Tubliss @ 8/11psi The bike handles well, even with dry slippery dirt. Best handling and riding Beta I have experienced, by far. Confidence and traction. That really sums up the results. NO sharp-edge deflection. I turned my steering damper 'off' at the place where I usually set it to 2 turns in..... Does bottom on G-out occasionally (nice gentle 'click') but will not bottom on noise dive or square edge stuff. One more click of compression is very noticable; probably suitable for another 10+ mph Addtional travel of about .40" Really REALLY glad I did it. Makes the 390 soooo much more fun to ride. $2588 including springs and shipping with insurance, both ways (for me). I did not do the hard anodizing because of the 3+ weeks additional waiting time. ------------ Lucky Build Lucky installation including Revalve, rebuild and Maxima synthetic 5w fluid. -All parts ultrasonically cleaned. - Fork Springs Fork Springs - .54 - SACHS 2019+ Beta SACHS/BETA 2019+ 46mm Works Shock - Includes revalve, Bladder conversion, High Flow Piston w/LFPR, Lainer compression adjuster, Motorex SD1 fluid and nitrogen. -All parts ultrasonically cleaned. -Shock bled per factory spec. - Misc Beta/Xtrig shock preload adjuster -Part - Shock Spring Showa/KYB/SACHS SHOWA/KYB/SACHS Link Shock Spring - 6.2
  24. So I dropped by my local Beta dealer today to see if the 20’s had arrived. Not yet, but I know what I want after the demo day so this happened. Deposit paid delivery Mid Feb. then Braaapp
  25. Anyone know who sell XR100 cranks apart from Honda and there contact details. Standard stroke
