  1. Hell all. New member here. Figured after a few years of navigating the TT forums i would make an account, for input on my current situation. I just got a 98 XR600R from my father who last rode it maybe 6 years ago. About 3 years ago i was told i could have the bike if i got it running. I took the bike and cleaned the carb, tried kicking it over and nothing. After a good carb cleaning, got it to run but not very well. Found an issue with the auto decompression system. I removed the asm from the cam and had the hole filled. After that it ran better but still not good. I then took it to the shop i work at and tore it down to the piston. Not realizing before, choke plate broke off and found itseay inside the cylinder and did some head damage. After finding this i boxed it up and havent touched it until recently. Got the bike out, inspected everything and found only damage to the head, light marking. Cleaned it up and slapped everything back together and cannot get the bike to run at all, and when it does, its gutless. Checked timing several times, cam is good. Its off a half tooth either direction. I do have the cam in the right orientation, not 180 out. When it does run its noisy, like super loose valves. Couldnt ever figure out the cause. I decided to out money into this bike and got the following, new cam chain, new coil and plug, new hot cam stage one, new hot shot cdi box, new ricky stator 200w stator, kibble white titanium spring kit, 100mm 10.5 to 1 JE piston and XRs only new carb kit, the non pumper. I decided to overhaul the bike to get it running, then as winter comes tear it all apart and clean up the frame and other parts. Im looking for any input for people who built there bikes with performance parts as these and there experiences in doing so. And just looking for general guidance along the way, helping restore and build a classic. Pictures if interest.
  2. my 13 year old son ride a 2018 YZ 85 big bore. due to pandemic reasons we have moved away from the tracks but we want to return. I would like to know the frequency to change piston
  3. Hello. I bought my son an 06 klx 110 with a 143 big bore kit on it. It ran crappy for the first summer and I knew it was probably the wrong size/jet carb (has an OKO currently). After sitting the last year...it would only run on choke so I knew we had some clogging issues. We cleaned it out and it now runs off of choke but it still has issues. If you slowly roll on the throttle it is ok but even the slightest blip and it totally dies out. I'd like to just get a new carb all together since the current one seemed to run very lean anyways. I know knock off carbs are frowned upon but he rides the bike in a small circle in our front yard so i dont want to spend $100 on a Mikuni vm26 just for 2nd gear putting. Does anyone have a recommendation on a cheap carb that is sufficient for the 143 kit that's on it? All of the vm26 knockoffs I see for around $40 have a bolt on intake end and the bike has the rubber intake with hose clamp setup. Is there a cheap carb that has the hose clamp on both ends or can i take the bolts off of the rubber intake and directly bolt the new carb to where the rubber intake now bolts on? Any help is appreciated!
  4. Can anyone suggest a good shop in the northern California area that is good at rebuilding my Supermoto and installing a stage one big bore kit. The motor had acquired a lower end rattle and one day it started to really tighten up so I shut it down before it let go. I'm almost certain it was the crank that had suffered the damage and now that it needs the work I would like to give it some more power. I'm ready to purchase the kit but being new to the area I'm looking for some good recommendations for a shop that can do the work.
  5. I'm thinking of freshening up my, mostly stock, engine a bit and wondering if any of the sub-$300 big bores kits are acceptable? They say they are Nikosil plated and one mentions moly coated piston.   6. So I just got my '88 cr125 bored out to a 134 (56mm piston). I've been looking for some sort of basis or guideline for new jetting. I cant even find stock carb specs for the bike. If anyone has any ideas, or even stock jetting and air screw, it would be appreciated. Stock reeds and pipe. Fmf silencer. Keihin pj carb.
  7. So, looking for a little wisdom. I just rebuilt my bike last night and finished at 12:30 this morning. Last night i wanted to make sure i could get the bike to fire up and make sure everything is okay and begin the break in. As luck would have it, the HG is leaking coolant. what would y'all recommend i do. I have a cosmetic gasket because i have a cylinder works 269cc. P.S. it was running for 15 minuets with me modulating the throttle when i noticed it. It was a VERY small little line but its still leaking coolant with less than 20 minutes in the the motor.   8. I'm in the process of organising the bits and pieces to fit a 270 kit to my sons 92 XR250. My dilemma is the head gasket. I've been told the best option is a cometic gasket to suit, but I haven't found where I can buy one of these in Australia yet, or the part#. My options as I see it are: 1/ Source the Cometic gasket 2/ Buy a Wiseco top end gasket kit (WS5425 to suit 75.5 to 78mm bores) 3/ Buy an 84/85 XR250R gasket as they had a 75mm bore and would only be 1mm difference as per using a std head gasket on the 84/85 with a 1mm overbore. Does anyone know if they are a direct fit other than the bore size? 4/ Buy a standard gasket, draw up in cad and have it laser cut out of copper. Can anyone weigh in and help out?

So picked up an 81 cr450R replaced clutch among other things, went thru and cleaned and jetted the carb but for some reason once I drop the choke the idle wants to climb almost immediately, have tried adjusting idle screw to no avail. Not really sure what else to check any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated
  10. Hi guys, I own a 2002 kx 85. Last week I blew up the motor. From what I've seen i just need to replace most of the top end. I take care of my bike as far as cleaning air filter, oil change, chain lube, use a 40:1 ratio for gas and oil mixture, and it let warm up for about 15 min every ride. Not to sure why it blew up, I had all fluids topped off as far as oil, gas, and coolant. But that isn't really my question. I have been searching all over the internet for answers and cant find them so maybe you can. I am 5'10 and weigh about 170, I'm a decent rider and i can get the bike moving really good. I want to make it taller and faster because I cant really afford a new bike. What I need to know is what do I need for a big wheel conversion considering its year (2002) and how much taller would it make it? I know i need a new rear shock spring for my weight. I also need to know how much faster a 105 or 107 bore would be over stock. Would like to know prices for both the big wheel and big bore because I am assuming it will all cost as much as a used nice dirt bike ($1500 I assume). I also want to know what all i need for the big wheel conversion. Would like to know what all you have to do to a big bore. ( I want to know because I know you can buy A brand new head for the big bore but do you have to bore out the cylinder under the head.) Sorry for the long message just need some help and figured this is the best way. Thanks for the help, It's greatly appreciated.

  12. I have a 2002 drz400e that I have now own for about 3 years, and it has been amazing. About 3 months ago I was doing a dessert race and during the race my bike lost all power. I could feel the power loss when I tried to crank it over, when I got home I did a compression test and I got around 30 psi. I checked the valve clearance and I was 23 on exhaust and 14 on intake. I decided to purchase the Athena Big bore kit hoping to solve the problem. When I got down to the original piston this is what it looks like. Does anyone know what could cause this was it my bike running too rich? Also before the race I did a full fluid flush on the bike.
