  1. I have a 70s ts 185 that bogs down at higher throttles i moved the needle valve down to allow less fuel in and it helped but it did not fix it what do I do

    Ttr110 bog

    Ive got a brand new 110 that came with an after market exhaust from factory. It bogged at the dealership and i figured it was cuz the frigid cold of december. Ive been riding it and the bog wont go away even after its fully warmed. Its from idle to wide open. Runs like a trash fire without choke and will backfire goin down the road using engine brake. I took the air box apart and tried runnin it without the filter to no avail. Im just trynna get good doin wheelies and it wont let me god damnit
  3. I got a question. I own a 2016 KX 85. It ran AMAZING after it first bought it used and was in beautiful condition and I picked it up for only 2500. I was riding when all of a sudden it started bogging down right before the power band.i don’t think it’s jetting because the bogging just turned on like a switch and it was running perfect before it. The bike was like that for a month. Apparently the previous owner never oiled the filter so it was dry as a rock and was falling apart and got sucked into to the intake so I’m guessing my power valve is gummed up or stuck close or open. I was riding one day with the bog issue and about 35 minutes of riding I shut it off to take a break. Came back 20 minutes later and it would not start.I changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb,checked the reeds,and tried hill starting it but nothing. When ever I try to hill start it I can hear it trying to crank and It starts for like half a second but then dies.I don’t remember if I left the fuel petcock on but what I’m guessing is that I flooded the engine and tried starting which messed up my electronics.The reason why I think I flooded the Engine is because when I took off the reeds the intake manifold and reed were soaked in gas.I heard that starting the engine while flooded can mess with a woodruff key or your CDI or something. There is spark coming from the plug though.And yes I mix the gas with oil at 32:1 cause I’m in the pipe all the time.This is my first time owning a 2 stroke.Any answers or tips.
  4. I recently bought a 2000 CR80RB that had been sitting for 2 years. I got it for $500 because the guy thought the rear wheel was bad and wheels are $300. Turns out the swing arm bushings are bad and that was the wobble he was feeling. I got the bike ride worth now (minus the swing arm bushings) but it doesn't want to really get up and go when I'm giving it throttle until about half way through, it also won't idle. It currently doesn't have an air filter on it, could that be creating a lean scenario causing the bike to run worse at lower RPM? I haven't been riding the bike like this without the air filter for longer than a few minutes so I don't wreck the cylinder, it had a filter on it but it was too dirty and old to run in the bike. I've got a new filter on the way, just want to find out if that's my problem. Any help would be appreciated. I'm running 32:1, air screw has been ran from 1.5 turns to 2, no help, idle screw has been all the way in and out, carb has been cleaned, reeds are clean and in spec.

Hello there everybody.. new to ktm bought an 09' 300xcw and it ran great for about 10 hours then all of a sudden as I was riding in the yard she acted like she's running out of gas when the power band starts to hit nice and good... put a fresh air filter in it and I pulled my carb and cleaned it good and blew compressed air in every hole.. but still same issue.. before I just take the dang thing into the dealer can anybody point me in the right direction what else could possibly cause this? Found a similar thread that may point to the stator and it came with what looks like an old stator in a box notnsurenifnits related but not sure doesn't sound right to me seems like a carb/fuel issue figured maybe you guys would have a better idea? I will be cleaning my fuel petcock next but running out of options here Symptoms: lots of torque down low just acts like it runs out of fuel once the power band hits and recovers immediately once out of powerband... kind of stumped here. Temps have been about the same so I don't think jetting is an issue either because it ran perfect and starts 1 kick cold.

Hey, I recently bought my friends 2011 KX250F (efi) because it won’t rev up past around 1/2 throttle without bogging while its under load, he couldn’t figure it out, even a small engine mechanic couldn’t figure it out. I’m just wondering if someone else has had this problem with the same bikes and what the problem was. Thanks!
  7. I was bored one day and bought a real tree rt200 little pit bike from Walmart. I know it’s not high quality. But i thought it would be a fun thing to mess around on. I got it going and such and it rides fine uphill and but it bogs on straights and downhill. Any suggestions I’d greatly appreciate I used to ride when I was younger but I didn’t learn much just enjoyed the riding. My ideas so far were a new spark that burns hotter, maybe some octane in the fuel tank, it’s running on premium right now. The bike recommends anything a live 85 unleaded so I put 92 unleaded in it. Maybe a diffrent air filter. Thank you let me know what you think
  8. Hello all, Thanks to Thumpertalk I dared to plunge into the deep and do a rebuild of the top-end of my 2012 YZ250 myself. 10hrs and still going strong. But the reason I did the rebuild (other than that the time has come), was that there was also another issue that I was hoping to fix. I'll walk you through the symptoms: Start up of the bike (cold) in cold or hot weather w choke. (PS: I think the problem is a little better in cold weather) Bike starts up in one kick if kicked correctly. The bike smokes, but normal amount to a 2stroke. After a 10 or so seconds, when I blip the throttle, ALOT of smoke comes from the exhaust (white smoke). It also doesn't ping but bogs (bwaaa) when I go on the throttle. Sometimes its so severe that it dies during the bog. When I start my ride on the track, the bike doesn't ping and I don't have much power + still excessive smoke. But when I hold the throttle WIDE OPEN for 10 or so seconds, then it starts to 'clear out' and begins to haul *ss. The smoke also disappears and the engine starts to ping again. The bike runs fine after that while its cleared out on the track. I thought this was a sign that I should change the top end (30hrs, novice) and clean the carburetor. What did I do: Completely clean and dissasembly the carburetors and jets. Change the piston, rings, gaskets,.... Replace spark plug. The problem seemed to be gone the first time that I started the bike after the rebuild (first kick yeahah!). But it quickly came back and is even identical to before the rebuild. Now I thought the cause is the following: Crankshaft seal leak at the clutch side. --> But I just checked my transmission fluid after 4-6hrs of riding and it's 650cm³ after the 750cm² I filled it with. That seems to be about normal consumption, no? Coolant leakage somewhere inside the combustion chamber --> Triple checked: not losing coolant. The following suspects: Float height Crankseal leakage Pilot jet wrong (I checked that the standard one is installed). I'm at a dead-end here. I don't have the friends with the knowledge to ask these questions to. But I'm laying my faith in the hands of thumpertalk :). If there is something I can do to test something for you guys, let met know. Kind regards, Dries This is the me, my bike and the issue (it got a bit worse over time :p). Yes I know I shouldn't be so hard on the throttle when I start it, but for one time its not bad and it was necessary to show the problem.

  10. So I have done alot of reading and haven't found anything that has helped too much. I have a 2004 ttr125 with 150 big bore kit with cam, air box mod, fmf pc4 exhaust I installed a mikuni vm26-606 carb that came with 190 main and 22.5 pilot way to rich. I found online the same carb that is supposedly jetted for ttr125 with bbk it comes with 150 main and 40 pilot so I would assume that would be a good starting point so I used those sized jets . Again way to rich or so I think. With a 22.5 and 27.5 it idles good starts first kick without choke. It had a bog at WOT so I did some research and saw that a bog is a lean condition so I went bigger on the main. But it got worse with richening main jet. So I dropped main jet all the way down to 115 and the bog is pretty well gone but has slight hesitation mid range and sometimes blows black smoke out of the exhaust like it's still rich. It makes me nervous dropping that low on main especially when all I've read is bog means lean but it runs way better when I go leaner worse if I go richer. Also I changed the 5E75 needle that came with it for a 56N38 needle. I'm not too familiar with needles and their diameters and tapers. Any help would be greatly appreciated am I too lean and going to ruin my bike or am I right by going leaner. Why would they sell the same carb set up for ttr's with the bbk with a 150m and 40p if that's not even close to the right jetting??

So i have a 1999 yz 125 it was running great last year but i took it out of winter storage and its bogging and stuttering really bad in the higher rpms like 3/4-full throttle its running stock jetting has a full fmf exhaust system and a athena factory cylinder kit. Also im at 1700 ft (elevation)
  12. Ill try to keep this short. Entering the Motocross world after a decade away. Recently picked up a 2001 honda CR125, starting to work on figuring out issues and fixing them. replaced clutch plates as they were very worn, need to replace the basket as that is grooved but havent done so yet. Carb is clean clean but still leaking gas as if floats stuck(any suggestions?) doesnt seem to have as much power in 3rd or 4th as it should(suggestions?) also noticed today while going up a decent hill(not extreme incline nor length) it bogs down real bad then cuts out. did so in 2nd gear and also 4th.. could i have not been giving it enough gas or what could be the cause? I am not extremely knowledgeable on dirtbikes yet nor all the specific parts but when i get into something, im in 100% so im trying to do my due diligence, research well and fix all issues myself. Im a very mechanically inclined guy as well so if i can help it, im wanting to do the work required myself. The same as my truck and my requirements at work. lol So basically, im looking for insight on my carb issue and why it would bog down/cut out going up a normal hill. TIA for any assistance guys!
  13. Hi all, hope you are all having a great day. I bought a rm125 with a fresh top end rebuild ( 0 hours), it idles great but once I go into first and let off the clutch , pretty much no matter how much throttle I give it , it does. Definitely seems like it's getting too much fuel , could it be that the pilot or main jet could be the wrong size now because of the rebuild? I've adjusted my air screw already. Thanks, hope to hear from someone soon. And if you have any other ideas on what it could be , dont be afraid to speak ur mind !
  14. I have an 2006 yz125 that is fairly low hour. It ran fine when I bought it then one day started to bog. I have tried everything I can think of, new carburetor, new spark plug, switches cdi, switched coil, switched stator, changed reeds, made sure nothing was plugging exhaust, rebuilt top end.   15. Long post, TLDR at the end. About a month ago I purchased a new 2020 xlr650l. I had done a lot of research before getting it and it seemed like a good entry point to come back to motorcycle ownership. I'm in my mid 30s, fairly mechanically inclined, but I really hadn't done much of the work on the previous bikes I'd owned. The older design of this bike was a significant selling point. Before and after the purchase I'd been researching what to do to it. My initial expectation was that all I'd need to do to it right away was the front sprocket. At 41 miles I replaced it with the same size Fritzco sprocket. In the 40 miles I'd ridden the bike, I'd noticed some things I wanted to change/improve. Throttle response was lacking. It doesn't get super hot where I live in Oregon, but hot enough- lean from the factory seemed like an issue worth addressing and I could see how easily the bike was getting hot. Some cosmetic issues as well. So handguards that wrapped all the way around were a thing. Subframe reinforcement, too. Dave's mods were how I decided to address the lean condition. So I ordered the jets from JetsRUs and set about to modding. I followed the steps on JetsRUs and YouTube and started with the suggested 55/158 and 0.020 shim. Holes drilled correctly. Ground down around the mixture screw until it was fully accessible. Backed it out 2.5 turns. De-snorkled the air filter, but while I had ordered a Uni air filter, I initially tried it with stock filter. Idled fine. I could adjust the screw to make it idle better, but when applying throttle it would bog down a lot. It wouldn't be able to be ridden in this condition. Some of what I tried helped or hindered further the symptoms- so when I say I was getting there same result, I mean various degrees of bogging down. I'd gotten a couple of other jet sizes- tried those with the same result. So I waited for the new air filter to come. Same result. Went back to 55/158 and tried reinstalling the snorkel - same result. Double checked everything about carb reassembly. It was all done correctly. No fuel leaks anywhere. Hoses reattached correctly. I'm approximately 400' above sea level using the 10% ethanol gas. Read more threads, watched videos. So I went up to 160 for the main jet and put in a .025 shim for the needle. Same result. I read that the ethanol is going to require a richer mixture, so I ordered the next 3 sizes larger for the main jet. I went up to a .031 shim and that kinda helped. It didn't bog down as much but required the choke to be on in its full position. Half choke would kill it. It didn't like to start as easily. Went back down to a .028 shim. It doesn't want to start. It will though- barely. This is with 55/160 jets. I think I may have fouled the spark plug but haven't checked yet and the larger jets won't be here for another day or so. So I figured I'd get some second opinions from people who likely know way more than I do in the meantime. TLDR: 2020 xr650l bogs down with Dave's mods. I've taken out the carb ~25 times trying ever combination I can think of. Larger jets on the way, Big Gun exhaust on the way. 400' ASL. Ethanol gas. The carburator looks exactly how I expected it to comparing it to recent years (so I don't think this issue is due to it being a 2020). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be missing?   16. I have a 2003 yz125 and I just put a brand new top end and bottom end for it to run and I run it on 91 or c12 all the time. Recently i took it to a race and survived me 3 laps before bogging whenever i was in a high rpm. I took it back to the pits put a brand new spark plug and brand new fuel and opened the bottom of the carb to let the rest of the gas out and still kept bugging mid race. At this point i have no clue on what it could be please help.

(Just to clarify I have never owned a 2 stroke so I don't really know what I am doing but I am pretty mechanical so putting stuff together and rebuilding stuff if pretty easy but NORMALY on a 4 stroke) Hello, So I recently purchased an 04 ktm 65sx as a pit bike for myself and there seems to be an issue with it somewhat bogging up hills I say somewhat because it doesn't feel or sound like normal bogging. So basically what happens is it feels like it is pulling me fine up the hills at first then the "braaap" sound that the 2 strokes make will go away and come back over and over again. when the sound is off there is basically no power I am just kind of rolling is what it feels like then the sound will come back and I will feel the power that it is supposed to have. Also when I am driving it on flat land it kind of does the same thing it is just in a smaller fashion. So I am thinking it might be something to do with the compression which is less than adequate (I don't have a compression tester I'm just guessing from the feeling of the kick). So it would be really helpful if someone that knows about this could point me in the direction of what I should do, maybe get new piston rings or new piston entirely or new head??? Also when I got it and checked/ replaced the oil it was very milky so I have a new water pump seal coming in. I NEED HELP and this is above my 2 stroke knowledge any help would be nice and if someone wants a video or a picture of something specific please tell me!!!!
  18. Hey. So I just got a crf230f recently. It rode perfect for a week or two. I was out riding the other week and anytime I started going back to 1st gear it would idle down low then eventually die on me once I hit 2-3 gear. once it died it wouldn’t start so I assumed maybe battery was shot. I ordered a brand new battery and put it in. It started right away then kept shutting off. It did thag for a while. I’d have to rev it in order for it to stay running. I got it running long enough where I could get it into 1st gear. Got up to second and 3rd on 3rd gear o notice that the exhaust was popping a little bit and started to bog down. Felt like it kept shutting off then coming back on. I got back into second gear and it runs fine for a little. Go back up to 3rd and same thing happens again. I thought maybe I needed to clean my air filter and spark plug. I did both of that. Put them back in and nothing. It’s running the same way. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
  19. This might be confusing but I'm having a horrible time with my 2004 yz250 right now and I need help please. It ran great all last year ans the beginning of this year till one day I got on it and it didn't want to hit the powerband going uphills and it would bog and have no power riding through rough terrain like bumps and just bumpy trails. But riding flat in my backyard it will hit the powerband MOST of the time, sometimes it'll just sputter at the point right before the powerband is supposed to kick in and it'll just stay at that spot. I have taken the carb off about 5 times now and cleaned everything with carb cleaner and it all looks fine. My reeds look good (I flipped them over for another use back in April). I have taken the plate off the powervalves on the jug and they looked good but just to be safe I sprayed some cleaner on them and scrubbed with a toothbrush and dried everything off. I don't know if this matters but my choke won't stay up at all but I have read thay they can get stuck even if it's closed?? But my bike will start cold without needing the choke. I have changed the stock jetting from MJ 178 to a 175 and PJ 50 to a 48 and moved the clip on the needle all the way to the top because it seemed to be running super rich after that day it randomly didn't want to run right so I leaned it out a little. It didn't really seem to help a whole lot when I tried to lean it out because it tends to bog a little right after I blip the throttle when slowing down. But after leaning it out it doesn't smoke as much as it did, especially when idling and it seems to rev out a lot better when on the stand after being warmed up. And I am about 530ft above sea level. The bike will idle when first started up but won't idle after its warmed up. I'm just tired of it not hitting the powerband and bogging going up hills and bogging when riding rough terrain. I'm not sure what to do I have tried everything... it all just happened randomly one day. I just want to get back to riding again..
  20. Hey guys. So I’ve got a 2003 RM125. I’ve just rebuilt the top end. Had the carb rebuilt. New spark plug and air filter. Fresh oil change. The bike feels strong making a few loops in the yard..and feels strong for about 1 lap around the track. But then it’ll start bogging in the straights when I reach the powerband. Then the bogging gets worse quickly and it bogs in every gear. Low end seems fine it has pull. But mid-top bogs really bad. What can I check to fix it? I have a race this weekend so I’m trying to get it done. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  21. Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem. My bike (2000 XR250R) starts first kick, idles great, but as soon as you hit half throttle (any gear) it bogs and has no power. This only happens at half throttle. 1/4 throttle and full throttle works great. Any idea what the problem is?
  22. I have a 2005 kx125 I have the correct spark plug and leaned out the jets the bike runs for a minute then dies I've tried everything and cannot figure it out
  23. I started up my breeze for the first time in probably 6 months today, and noticed a very annoying "tinking" type of sound coming from the engine. I have a video of what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gl8ei4WA1g Another issue is opening the throttle more than a quarter of the way, it bogs down badly and kills the engine. I tried playing with the air/fuel screw and idle screw with no change. I have gone through the carburetor several times spraying with carb cleaner and using pipe cleaners to get the jets clean. I'm starting to think that's the least of my worries now that the engine is making that strange annoying sound. I read it might be valve tick? I have not checked the valves for play yet, and it's strange that it's just now making that sound. Any ideas or suggestions of where to go from here?
  24. I have a problem with my ktm. As i open throttle from idle to full throttle it bogs down sometimes it hesitates and starts gurggling sometimes it just stops running. Ive had this problem for a while now it is not a thing when the rpms go a little higher it is a problem only from idle. Ive changed my cracked reeds, rebuilt the whole engine and tried tuning the carb. Im running a KTM fmf factory pipe. My main jet is 185 and the pilot jet is 45. I need help i cant figure this thing out. What could be the causes of the bogging?
