  1. I bought a 2005 crf450x 2 months ago, It has a Lithium batttery and the guy threw in the old battery he had before that. The old battery drains after a 1-2 hr ride and the Lithium Battery drains after 3 hr ride. The voltage is 12.4 while idling; then it only goes to 12.6V when revving to 4,000 RPM ! With the bike turned off it is at 13.4. Should'nt I be getting over 14V at 4000RPM? Additional Info that might provide useful... I installed a new Stator, Rectifier. I have a new wire harness that I will probably install too. Previous owner installed Installed a street legal kit. See the attached schematic. He added a new tail light, f&R brake switches horn, h/L switch and no turn signals. Most adds are labeled except the wire harness coming out of the handlebar switches are far left on drawing. If I am supposed to get over 14V at 4000 RPM but am only getting a .1V or .2V jump where should I look next? Factory harness looks like its in great shape. Thanks ahead of time. pe with now obvious issues.
  2. Last year I put my 99 cr engine into a 00 cr frame and along with it went the electronics. The CDI box mounts closer to the engine in 99 than 00 so the cdi wires arent long enough to get the box to where it needs to go, so I had to shove my CDI box up behind the radiator. Now Im looking to fix my issue. Has anyone ever extended the wires coming from their stator to the CDI? Im not looking to dish out $700 on a new setup. If i were to do it I would use solder and do it right no caps or anything like that and the whole thing would get heat shrinked.
  3. I am looking for a replacement CDI box for the LT160, specifically the '03 LT160K electric start. I just picked this thing up for free and it is decent shape, minus the CDI box appearing to have been eaten by a mouse or other small rodent native to the area I reside. I have found OEM replacements but they are $250 and I thoroughly plan on beating the crap out of this thing once it runs. It will be used for tilling a small amount of land and letting the kids beat it up. I dont really want to spend that much on a new CDI. Does anyone know of any replacement chinese knock off CDI's that will fit? TT sells an item EPIGC108, for golf carts, which looks similar to the six prong plug CDI box I am after. Has anyone had any luck with this item on single cylinder ATV's? Any help getting this bad boy running would be appreciated. Thanx to all.
  4. Bike is a 1986 XL600R I pulled the CDI without looking at the wire colors first and their location doh. Does anyone know the proper wire color sequence/position when plugged into the CDI? If I switch things around the wrong way will the bike still run? Thanks .
  5. Has anybody bought any ignition components from these guys? Stator, Flywheel, CDI, Coil, Voltage Regulator, etc? https://www.hpi.be/index.php If so, did you buy direct -or- from one of their dealers state side? Thinking about buying a fully programmable setup for my project bike.
  6. Hi yall I've got a technical question about the ignition boxes for period Suzuki DR400s. I recently purchased a non running 1980 model for 200$, the bike was complete but honestly it was pretty rough. The previous owner had hooked up a car coil and grafted on a 99 RM250 ignition box. He claimed it ran like that too. I couldn't get it to fire as it was (CDI looked all corroded), so I ordered a stock coil and was looking for a stock '80 CDI.. apparently theyre kinda rare / pricy. I was wondering what my other options could be. I'm not sure if there are aftermarket units that will work? maybe a cdi from a similar bore 4 stroke? The wiring isn't too complicated as its a base offroad model. Any help is appreciated!
  7. Hi I recently bought a used dirt bike I’m not sure the brand of bike it is all I know is it is a 100cc 4 stroke Chinese bike. It didn’t come with a CDI can anyone direct me or link for a CDI that will work with my bike
  8. I bought a 1994 KLX250 which had its engine/gearbox swapped out for a 1999 KLX300. The CDI is still the KLX250 OEM model 21119-1427 but after a year of smooth running has now gone phut. The CDI for a KLX300 should be model 21119-1479. Should I just try and fix the 1427 unit or splash out on a new 1479 which from Kawasaki cost nearly as much as I paid for the bike? Don't seem to be any second hand KLX300 CDI's for sale, in the UK anyway. The bike seemed to rev freely with the 1427 unit and give 80mph on the flat. I love my KLX and would hate to bin it for the sake of unobtainable electronics.
  9. So what's the story on high performance CDI with higher rev limitation. Do they really help with performance? I'm going to take a chance on the RMstator CDI even though old posts didn't like them much.
  10. I came across this post earlier while trying to find something else, but it made me think about my bike, and think it very well could be my problem. In this post, Chuck states to NOT use the CDI box from an '85 4valve motor on a 2valve motor. When I got my '90 XR200R I had the motor rebuilt. The bike had an aftermarket Chinese CDI box on it, and the guy said that might be a problem with it starting. I had an '85 XR200R I bought first, and it had the CDI still on it, so I took it to him and he put it on, since I had no other options, I didn't know they were different, and money was tight. The bike didn't wanna start. I found the pulse generator was 180 degrees out and valves way out, so I got that corrected. Bike will run but has been super hard to start since then. My question is, when I put the correct CDI in, should it wanna start with ease? Like it's supposed to?!
  11. I have a 2001 DRZ 400 that burned the CDI unit . Tried 3 aftermarket CDI's and none of them work, Tried an Original CDI from a friends Bike and it works good … does anyone have any help on that Please..Thank you
  12. So here's a question. How do I check if my CDI unit powered off a stator energizing coil is firing at the right time? The CDI is not energised unless I'm kicking over the motor so just turning the motor with a socket spanner will not generate a spark. If the motor would run I could put a strobe light on the timing mark but it won't start. The bike is a KLX300 so it is kick start only, no starter motor. The bike was running fine but the CDI unit and stator energize coil both failed so I rewound the stator coil and bought a new CDI unit. I get a good spark when kicking over with the plug removed and held against an earth. But with the plug in it gets wet after kicking over a few times so I figure it is getting fuel but not firing at the right time, but open to other suggestions!

Hi All, I've got a 1988 NX650 which had nasty wiring which lead to a lot of issues starting etc. I've decided to try rewiring with a motogadget m-unit to help reduce wiring and get some of the extra features the m-unit offers. Everything has gone well expect getting a spark and I'm guessing its the CDI as I know they have know issues and I couldn't find anyone who's wires an NX650 or XR650 with an m-unit. Also my CDI was a bodge wiring without the original connectors. Firstly is my below image the correct wiring? If so can anyone also explain a little more what the different connections actually do? i.e. black/white can just be a constant power from the battery. red/yellow is the signal from the start button when its pushed which is also sent to the starter solenoid, when this signal is received the CDI send a signal down the black/yellow to the ignition coil to get the spark. Am I on the right lines? Also not too sure about the pulse gen! Also, anyone who's good with wiring and possibly also understands the m-unit blue from motogadget, below is the OEM wiring diagram, I then tried to simplify it down to just the ignition and charging system and removing the fuse box, then tried to draw the wiring diagram incorporating the m-unit. Am I on the right lines with the wiring? As I said everything else works, lighting etc, starter motor too, just no spark. Any advise would be a massive help. Thanks, Jonny
  14. Hey guys, hoping someone out there is able to help me. I have a 2005 wr450f that I am overhauling/motarding. I'm planning on running a full D/C circuit and will be fully re-wiring the bike and loom myself. I purchased a Baja Designs Regulator/Rectifier and have completed their stator mod successfully. My only question is there is a wire that runs straight off the white stator wire that goes directly into the CDI unit as a red/white wire after the plug. What does this do? Does it need to stay as A/C? Will joining the 2 stator circuits with the Baja Designs upgrade mean there is too much A/C current running into the CDI if I leave it before the regulator/rectifier? Will add the wiring diagram with the wire highlighted later tonight when I get home. Thanks in advance, Dave
