  1. I'm coming to Quebec and New Brunswick for Vacation in late September or early October. Is there anyone who will rent a dual sport bike for a day or two for trail riding and local touring. I'm not interested in an adventure bike. I would prefer a WR250F or CRF250X, or something light. If I find something, I'll also be looking for someone to ride with. I'm 62, and been riding for 50 years. I can do most of the hard stuff, and won't bog you down. Thank you, Toby
  2. anybody know of some good riding places in the sault st marie area???
  3. I'm quite new to the moto scene and I've got a '09 CRF250R in need of what I believe is a top end rebuild. I've never gotten a rebuild before so I'm unfamiliar with the process and the steps to take in getting this done in a safe and efficient manner. I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable shops in or near Vancouver, Canada (where I live) that could look at my bike and help me out with my situation. About 6 months ago I got an inspection on the bike and the shop told me that my cam bearings had "spun in their journals", requiring the installation of a new cam along with the rebuild. I haven't had anything done to the bike since the inspection so the motor is still in this state. She's running but I'm afraid that the motor is a ticking time bomb and would like a shop to take a look at it, let me know what needs to be replaced and get the rebuild done without me worrying about getting taken advantage of. I'm currently out of the country in school but have plans to get this done once I'm back. Any tips, recommendations, or help would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Hey guys im new to super motos and dirtbikes in general but I have always loved them and finnaly got a drz400sm brand new 1500km on it. I am trying to learn clutch wheelies. I can get the tire up in the air in 1st gear (not to balance point) but in 2nd gear I cant get it to pop. Rarely on a hill I will get the smallest lift of the front tire like 1ft at the most. I have seen vids and know the drZ400sm is able to clutch up wheelies in even 3rd.. so what can I do to help. Whats the best way to learn? (bikes never been dropped and I don't want to!) I have been praticing in areas with no traffic. After about 4 attempts I feel like I am &%$#@!ing up my bike so I baby it through the gears nice and smoooth for a few km then try again. Does doing clutch wheelies harm the bike? What is the most common damage it does? (I think once you are a pro it is not bad at all because you know what your doing but Iv heard learning them can be brutally hard on the bike.) Everything is stock (exterior mods - new taillight / signals - armoured handgaurd with zeta handguards with the flashers built in - zeta 3 finger adjustable clutch lever (love this!) And zeta 3 finger break lever - removed right hand mirror. What I do.. slide back in the seat, squeeze the bike hard with my legs to hold it, rest foot on rear break pedal, going about 25 - 30km in 2nd gear I pull clutch in juice the throttle to a high sounding rpms, then let out the clutch. No where on my bike tells me what my rpms are at so I go by ear and I try to get as high rpm as it sounds before that awful red line screaming sound. -now in 1st gear I do the same thing and I get the wheel up no problem but as soon as its up I let off the throttle because the rpms sound like there getting super close to red line..
  5. Hey everyone, Has anyone tried to race a CRF 450X in motocross before? What re your thoughts? I'm planning on doing some Hare Scrambles this year, but would also like to try my hand at a few AOTMX races. I could have bought a 450R but the X just made more sense when I'm just out riding the trails with my family which is what I do most of. i was just wondering if you could even race a 450X. Thanks,
  6. I'm considering making my dirt monster a dual sport to give me a few more riding options. I'm looking at dual sport kits and a speedometer. Baja Designs and Dakar seem to have some possible kits and Trail Tech has a speedo. Has anybody tried this before on a Kawi and do you have "any" advice to offer or gotchas to avoid. Most appreciated! Clint
  7. This thread will discuss the best sources for Canadian CRF250L owners on a budget. I am a new owner and got some great information from the threads here, so I will share what knowledge I have gleaned sourcing the first few mods and maintenance I have done so far. Please chime in if you know where to get deals on parts for our bikes in Canada. I live in the boonies so buying parts online is the best solution, especially when you do not want to get gouged by the Honda dealer. The first mod anyone should do if they plan to ride their CRF off road at all is the 13T sprocket mod. Now my bike is usable in the bush. (42T for the rear is planned also) It threw out my speedometer by about 6 KM per hour. I can do the math in my head LOL, so no need to reprogram the speedometer yet. I found the best deal for this sprocket on Amazon.ca It took 5 days to get delivered and only cost me $5.22 because I had a twenty dollar gift card with Amazon. Free delivery! https://www.amazon.ca/JT-Sprockets-JTF1321-13-Steel-Sprocket/dp/B001AVQOI0/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1464803209&sr=1-1&keywords=JT+Sprockets+JTF1321.13+13T+Steel+Front+Sprocket Of course these bikes need a skid plate. Come on Honda! That cheap piece of plastic with 2 bolts is a friggin joke. I purchased this at Gnarly Parts. Free Shipping! Their communication is not great online, but they ship fast. 4 days to my door. CRFL-1980 Emperor Racing Heavy Duty Skid Plates $155.95 Sorry no link on their site anymore that I can find., but if you contact them I am sure you can still order one. Gnarly Parts also supplied me with the cheapist risers I could find @ $26.95 I like them, I bought the 30mm and they fit with no cable mods. I like them! http://www.gnarlyparts.ca/Tusk-Handlebar-Riser-Kit_p_351.html I also purchased the Tusk D-Flex Hand Guards with Turn Signals from them @ $91.95 Sweet deal I think. Dropped the bike in the sand dunes a few times the other day and they worked great. http://www.gnarlyparts.ca/Tusk-D-Flex-Handguards-with-Turn-Signals_p_1974.html And this bar pad fit perfectly after the hand guard install and was dirt cheap @ $3.95 http://www.gnarlyparts.ca/search.asp?keyword=+Zeta+Comp+Bar+Pad+-+Kids&search.x=9&search.y=2 I already did my first Oil change at about 220 KM, just to be safe and plan to do another about 1000 km. K&M filters where cheapest here with free shipping @ $7.72 https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/k-n-performance-gold-oil-filter-kn-112.html Good chain lube was also a pretty good price here @ $12.47 https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/motul-c3-chain-lube-off-road.html According to the experts, Rotella T6 is the best oil to buy and is the best deal for synthetic. The bonus is that you can buy it at your local Canadian Tire. Damn...I see it is on sale now for $40.79 and I had to pay $47.99 http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/shell-rotella-t-synthetic-diesel-motor-oil-0287935p.html
  8. I am looking for led headlight for my drz400sm. Being from rural Canada my options are limited. Was hoping to buy from Amazon.ca but their are so many h4 hi/love lights that I really don't know where to start. I see that a lot of people like KNS headlights but I was hoping to just buy an H4 bulb to swap out the original. Any suggestions?
  9. Hey Guys, this is my first time ever posting here. As a newbie I tried to search this forum up before posting this. (I know its a mortal sin to ask a question thats already been asked ) but I didnt see anything specific to my bike. Anywho, my question is who out there has a 09 crf 450r, or similar bike. And what Kinda mods did they do to it to make it more enduro friendly? The motor is bone stock, however the bike has renthal bars, smaller sprocket in the rear, black D.I.D rims, and a new michelin ms3 rear tire. I ride mostly In the Ganaraska Forest, but just in general what are you guys doing to your bikes out there? Thanks for any help Lucas
  10. Hey everyone, I'm new here but I've been reading the forums for quite a while, just finally registered! So I'm just wondering what there is for places to ride around here, I live around Lloydminster and love road trips to go riding so I don't mind travelling a bit! I'm into absolutely anything, I love hill climbing, trails, tracks and freestyle, As long as I'm riding I'm having fun haha. So let me know of any places you know about, I don't know of too many but I'll post places I know about below as well for anyone interested! Lucas Bachman Memorial Raceway (Lloydminster, Saskatchewan) - This is the closest track to me, Just got completely redone last year by some professional track builders from the states (can't recall their company name) and it's an awesome track! $20 for a day pass or $200 for the season, awesome places to ride and great people! Edgerton sand trails (Edgerton, Alberta just out of Wainwright, Alberta - Only been here a couple times but it's a blast! Lot's of trails and a lot of sand, don't see that too much around here. Hinton sand dunes (Hinton, Alberta) - Have yet to go here but I've heard lots, Hopefully make a few trips up there this year! Cold Lake Alberta track (Cold Lake, Alberta) - Also haven't been here but I've heard it's a great track! That's all I can really think of, I'll add more if I think of any!
  11. I've looked through the pages here and have not found a great place to post up on one of my favorite places to ride. I've got tons of stuff to post here and I know there are allot of others with stuff to contribute. Post them up.
  12. I'm trying to find a shop that can reseat, cut the valves on a 2009 yz250f? If any of you guys know a place on the south shore of montreal lemme know! Thanks
  13. This is a 2014 drz i took mint care of unitil i brought it to my cabin which average temps are below freezing and salted snowy roads. I didnt have access to indoor storage but had it under cover. I consistently sprayed coats of tri foam rust and corrosion protection lubricant all over the bike. It was getting really dirty and weather made it un rideable so i took it back to my house in the city which has a garage i store it in. I am doing a very detailed clean and noticed these burn like erosion holes and a big deep long ones along the seam of the casing.
  14. I made a thread last year in the regional section not thinking that it should have gone here instead. This area is called Blue Mountain / McNutt BC and is arguably one of the toughest extreme single track areas in western Canada. Definitely one of the coolest places to ride. I will start posting directly into this thread in the future but for now here is a link to the other thread. /topic/1071167-mcnutt-blue-mountain-pics-and-vids-post-em-up-here/?p=11399007 A short video to get it started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9FBkBIVeuQ
  15. Does anyone know where I could get my vortex ecu tuned in Canada. I'd like to get it remapped here in Canada because I don't want to pay shipping costs to the US.
  16. Have any fellow Canadians ordered from crfsonly? How was the shipping / duty? Is it worth the drive to the border... Or are the fees not to bad?
  17. post where your from and what type of riding you do. I live in Delta, BC ride 60% trail, and 40% track
  18. Hey all, Thought I'd throw this up here and see who else will be in Baja Norte and the likes. Been going for a few years now and this year I'll be travelling with a pretty good friend who's coming down for his first taste of desert riding, Bikes: - 08 450 EXC essentially loaded... it's been tweaked over the years to be my perfect bike in Baja. 24L tank for 220 mile range Hard parts galore 15/48 gearing for some shred 908's (there-and-backs) A lot of lights... More than necessary. BD headlight and a cyclops light bar. - 15 690 Enduro - Mostly prepped, around the same fuel range, plenty of hard parts in the right areas. It'll be the first desert test for the 690, but we're bringing plenty of spares. Gimme a shout out if you'll be in the area and if you wanna do some trails or riding. The first few days we're down there will tell me more about how he's going to handle the sand and whoops (yay whoops!) and then we can plan more around that as to whether we want to go to Mike's or Erendira or further south to Coco's or something. Cheers! Joe
  19. Just a couple vids of the riding I've done this season. I hope you enjoy!
  20. Post up photos cool of spots and secret places you go riding Offroad on Vancouver Island
  21. Hey thumpertalk I've heard koocanusa still has good riding weather, I've heard there isnt any snow on the ground and planning to go up there this weekend from Calgary. Never been there before and looking for trail suggestions (coordinates). Never been out there before but heard only good things.
  22. Hey ya'll, I'm buying a yz 125 this spring and had a few questions. 1) What ratio for Oil:Gas works best for trail riding? I'm thinking a 32:1 2) Anyone have tips on how to keep their carburetor and motor spic and span in order to prevent bogging? I came across a video of a lad that mentioned he leaks the carburetor after every ride if there is still gas sitting in his tank. His explanation seemed logically sound: "When mixed gas used for 2 stroke engines sits for too long it somewhat ferments and cause serious bogging issues to the carburetor". 3) I'm 6'2 190 lbs, anyone else with a relative build to mine have any tips on their suspension set up?
  23. There will be a new 250 East Rider earning the Red Plate today. BLUE !!!!
  24. Spent the day out on a track a hour west hitting up some jumps! First time Ive ever been on a MX track hitting jumps. This is an over all clean lap.
  25. Hi, new member here. I bought a 1993 xr650l a month ago, got it licensed and started riding. It ran great for the first 3 weeks, now it will start perfectly when cold, ride well when hot, but it wont idle when hot. When I come to a stop the rpm slowly drops until it stalls. I can keep it alive with the throttle. If it does stall, it needs a fair bit of throttle to fire, otherwise it will just crank and crank. To my knowledge it is stock other than having the valves and top end done by the previous owner. I have set the valve clearance, changed the plug, put new fuel in it, and done an oil change since I bought it. How can I get it to run better and not stall constantly when its hot?
