  1. Hi, I live in Fort McMurray Alberta Canada I have a crf490r hot rods kit installed and Yoshimura exhaust. I’m looking for the right size jets to put in my carburetor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  2. Can anyone help me with adjusting my fuel/air mix with a Boyesen Quickshot carburetor? I see a black knob but as far as I know all it does is adjust the idle. I cant seem to find a guide on how to lean out or make it richer. It's on an 05 kx250f. When I'm at the bottom of the rpm range in first or second gear and dump the throttle too hard, the engine cuts out for a second. Am I running too rich?

  4. The last two times I've ridden the bike I've had a problem restarting after it has warmed up. The first time I smelled gas and I let it sit for about an hour and it finally restarted. The second time I also smelled gas and let it sit for over an hour and still wouldn't start. I finally had to call a towing service to get it home. I put some Sea Foam in the gas and have let it sit. I haven't tried starting it again yet. There are a couple of other issues with the carburetors and I'm not sure if they are related to the current problem or not. Once it's first started it needs to warm up for quite a while before the second carburetor kicks in and the second carburetor will sometimes quit working while riding. Eventually it quits doing that but only when the engine has been running for 45 minutes or so. The cooler the weather the more often it does this. The second issue is that using the choke to help start it does not work and seems to make things worse. I start it by twisting the throttle a few times and then kicking it. Once it starts to catch I quickly turn on the choke to keep it running. I may have to repeat this process several times to get it running. Once it's started and has been running for a while it actually runs great. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me why it won't restart when the engine has warmed up.
  5. Hey guys, my buddy was messing around with my 2001drz400e and I guess he poked a hole in the bottom of my carb. I was having some fuel leak issues after installing the raptor petcock, with the thought to tighten what we believe was the fuel screw at the bottom of the carb ( was as loose as a tooth) a puncture happened to the bolt right next to it. Not too sure where or how to go about fixing this.

  7. Hello Everyone! I just purchased a 2015 CRF150RB for my girlfriend to learn on. I had the same bike some 10 years ago and it suited me well so I figured it would probably be a good learner for her with some extra room once she wants to go a little faster. I picked the bike up with supposedly 50Hrs on it, although I'd guess it's higher. The bike is completely stock (to my knowledge) with the exception of an R&D Flex-Jet. Problem is.. I bought it down in Phoenix, and I live and ride in Sedona/Flagstaff area so we have a pretty significant difference in altitude. Typically riding between 4,000-6,000ASL, and 65-90F temps. I have no idea what jets are in it currently (PO says stock), but the bike just doesn't want to start! Probably take 20-30 kicks to get it running, and it runs pretty well once it's going but a real PITA to kick back up again once the girlfriend stalls it. The bike probably needs a valve adjustment, but I don't want a half torn apart bike in the garage over the holidays so I figure it would be best to make sure I have all the parts to put it back together all at once. I think I've read every single thread on this site about jetting and thoroughly boggled my mind with different opinions, trying to compare setups to other people's setups at similar temps/altitude. So where should I go from here? Pilot jet? Main jet? Needle position? JD jetting kit? What's your experience, and where should I be looking to make this thing run nicely for her so she can start it in a couple kicks instead of a couple hundred kicks. Not too worried about spending some cash, but I prefer to do the work myself. Thanks for the input everyone!
  8. After installing a new pipe and riding for about 5 minutes the rpm's started surging and the bike would die. I couldn't get it to idle for 10 seconds before it would die. Fast forward 2 days and the bike is running fine and surging has disappeared, although there's another thing-after the clutch is pulled in the rpm's are still high and they don't drop immediately. Sometimes only after I come to a full stop they will drop completely. This was also a problem with the stock pipe but it's more noticable with the new one. The bike is also very hard to start. I have to lean it over to both sides before it shows any signs of life, and when the choke is pulled in it revs like crazy. I sprayed soap water around the cylinder and intake to see if bubbles would appear but everything was fine. I have 2 ideas- either something is wrong with the carb but I don't know exactly what or the crank seals are bad. Any ideas? Thanks
  9. Hello. I bought my son an 06 klx 110 with a 143 big bore kit on it. It ran crappy for the first summer and I knew it was probably the wrong size/jet carb (has an OKO currently). After sitting the last year...it would only run on choke so I knew we had some clogging issues. We cleaned it out and it now runs off of choke but it still has issues. If you slowly roll on the throttle it is ok but even the slightest blip and it totally dies out. I'd like to just get a new carb all together since the current one seemed to run very lean anyways. I know knock off carbs are frowned upon but he rides the bike in a small circle in our front yard so i dont want to spend $100 on a Mikuni vm26 just for 2nd gear putting. Does anyone have a recommendation on a cheap carb that is sufficient for the 143 kit that's on it? All of the vm26 knockoffs I see for around $40 have a bolt on intake end and the bike has the rubber intake with hose clamp setup. Is there a cheap carb that has the hose clamp on both ends or can i take the bolts off of the rubber intake and directly bolt the new carb to where the rubber intake now bolts on? Any help is appreciated!
  10. So i got some problems with my new dr650. Its got 3600km on it, bought it new from a dealership. After doing research and finding cheap parts i decided to get an aftermarket exhaust to shed some pounds as i plan to ride mostly fsr roads here in bc. I installed an FMF powercore q4 and powerbomb header. After noticing it running lean i decided to get the dyno jet kit and install that. Its starting to feel like a mistake. Squamish is 5m off sea level but i ride at elevation quite regularly. I followed to dynojet instructions and rejetted to the d60 jet, shimmed the needle to #4 and adjusted the fuel mixture screw to 2.5 turns out. I also drilled two 1.5" holes in the top of the airbox and covered with frogzskin. After a couple tanks im now getting 29 miles per gallon! Is it too rich?!?! I know i will loose some gas milage but this seems to be on the extreme side of things. Thanks in advance
  11. I'm looking for information on how to route the carburetor hoses on a 2005 Honda XR650L. It's a California model, but it has the smog stuff removed and blocked off. It's uncorked and has an FMF slip on exhaust, along with Dave's Mod done. It would be nice to have a diagram, but pictures or even just an explanation would work. Just looking to see how best to set up the carb hoses. Thank you
  12. So I had an overflow issue on my 03 CR250R. I only had the bike for a few months. I haven't been on a dirt bike for years (I primarily rode street). So I'm no where near to know jetting just by the feel and sound of the bike. I had some grit in the bowl, so I cleaned everything including the jets. This is the first I had them out. The pilot is 55 and the main is 170 From what I've been reading the pilot seems rich and the main lean. The bike seems to load up at lower rpms, but clears out almost instantly when hitting the powerband. Any help with what I should run would be greatly appreciated I mostly ride woods. It's a little technical, but has some open spots I usually ride in 2nd close or in the powerband. There's only a few spots where I can really wind it out in 5th I recently had the top end plated and honed and I have about 5 hours on it The bike has : Vforce3 reeds Platinum 2 and r304 shorty I've been running REC 90 and adding VP octane boost to get 94octane. klotz R50 32:1 My elevation is between 1000-2250ft

  15. Ok so I've been working on my own bikes for a few years now. Still hate carburetors but I've gotten familiar with them. Picked up a beat up ttr230 for my girl and started working on it. Took the carb apart and it was missing all the o-rings and the washer in between the main jet and the main nozzle (no wonder it ran like shit). No o-rings produces air leaks. I've got all the o-rings in the correct place except one I think. Not sure where the o-ring goes on the main nozzle (could go on the tip or maybe in a groove above the threads) . And what role does that plastic washer in between the main jet and main nozzle? Manual gives a bare bones diagram I'll try to attach.
  16. Hi there! I recently bought an 86 xt350. It ran on full choke. I went about cleaning the carbs on it and the secondary carb had the main jet stripped out. So I tried an impact driver, and cracked the carb body. Turns out it's kinda hard to find a replacement. I have 3 questions. 1. Would anyone like to sell me a secondary carb for xt350 2. Has anybody tried a secondary carb delete. If so how did you go about accomplishing it and what size carb did you use. 3. Does another carb fit in its place. The xt600 appears to have similar carb set up Thanks for any help/advice given ?
  17. Hello everyone, I am new to the forum but have been using it for information. I recently acquired a PW80 that has a few minor problems. One of the problems was that I was not getting a spark at all. After testing the CDI, coil, and kill switch, I replaced the coil and started getting spark as long as the spark plug was up against something metal. If it isn't touching anything it won't spark. I'm assuming it's from a poor connection somewhere. My main problem right now is the carburetor. I put based a new one off of eBay cause the old one was taken off and lost some parts from the previous owner. I do have the majority of the old one tho. My question: I installed the new carb. There is a tube coming from the oil injector. Does the oil injector normally connect to the carb? I can't find info on this. This new carb does not have anywhere where the tube could connect. The old one has a nipple that the tube probably slid over. Thank you guys so much.

  19. So here are my problems and I would love to ride but I can't... Recently I purchased a 2008 rmz250, bought it off a friend who never had it running proper, said it backfired alot and didn't ever run proper. When I got the bike i tore everything apart to try fix the problem, I have done the following -ultra-sonic cleaned the carb, all routes are clear -header had a gash, initially thought this was the problem installed a new one -Redid timing to proper adjustment -new coolant, oil and cleaned all inside case -hot start rebuild, thought this was the problem too as it would be sucking air in past carb -checked carb boot, no rips -ran seafoam After all this the bike still won't idle proper off of choke, on choke it runs fine, blips out when I give it throttle when it's not on choke and makes a hissing sound, I have come to the conclusion it can't be timing BC then it wouldn't run proper on choke, it might be the tps I will test that and update the thread and I will check valve clearance, I am somewhat p'd off I always get stuck with some unfixable vehicle, would love any feedback, thanks in advance
  20. Kx 85 runs well but smokes. More than I think it should for a two stroke. No smoke at idle. If I lean out the air mixture it bogs low end. Just when I gas it high rpms. New top end, jetted to spec with pro circut exhaust. Should I raise the needle clip? Also it's only a half turn out on the air mixture but that's where it runs best.
  21. I'm pretty sure the guy I bought my honda crf 230f from didnt run the gas out of it before letting it sit for 2 seasons. Its electric start and it's never consistent. Sometimes it starts and will idle for a little bit but even when giving it gas itll still die. I've played with the air mixture screw and got it to idle really high then really low and balanced it and thought that fixed the problem but then when I went to ride it it kept stalling when it shouldn't have. Seemed like it was running really lean on gas so I seated the fuel mixture screw then did the factory recomend 2.5 turns out and thought that fixed it for a while. It was idling great for like 2 minutes but then died again. Now it wont even start. I was told it had a carb clean before I bought it and I believe that's true cuz the screws look really clean and it got a new spark plug. I dont think it's a stuck float. I did have some problems with the gas leaking from the overflow hoses when I first started riding it but that doesnt really happen anymore. Ive had a lot of people tell me to keep the bike and that it's a good bike just needs a tune up. Any idea how to fix it?
  22. I’ve been having flooding problems with my dirt bike and I’ve kind of fixed it. I cleaned the carb and made sure the needle valve is very clean and I’ve added a new fuel filter to make sure no impurities get in the needle valve. It stops the fuel completely as soon as the little button on the valve gets touched. It’s stopped overflowing out of the carb but it’s still putting way too much fuel in the bowl where my bike will flood and die. I have the float adjusted very low where it should be running lean. It will still let too much fuel in
  23. Hi, I'm having an issue with my 2006 yz250. I can't seem to stop the carburettor leaking from the needle valve. I have checked the float levels and they seem ok. I have replaced the needle valve. Thoroughly cleaned and inspected the valve seat. The floats definitely float. I thought I had solved it by adjusting the float height from 6mm to 7.5mm. I left the fuel tap on for about 20 minutes with no drips but then I taped the carb and it immediately started pissing out. On a few occasions whilst try to fix this problem I noticed needle had stuck closed not letting any fuel through at all. My feeling is that the valve seat needs replacing but doesn't appear to be a replaceable item? Any ideas what I can do next? Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  24. 1979 xl185s was sitting for several years, cleaned everything up and new plug, getting spark and fuel to carb but won't start without starting fluid, then dies anyway. Crazy but this is going to be my daily driver for a while, desperately seeking advice. Thanks in advance ya'll
  25. Hey everyone. The forums have been invaluable since I bought this little TTR but I've come across a problem I couldn't search my way out of. It's an '03 ttr125L I bought for $500 non-running. Kid I bought it from tried to use a knockoff carb and couldn't get it to run right, and ended up breaking the intake boot (the carb to cylinder rubber connector). It had good compression and seemed ok so I layed it down in the back of my dad's ford exploder (I DD a miata at the moment) and took her home. Once I got the genuine mikuni and the new intake boot it fired right up. Although it was revving like crazy with the choke in at the time, that's not what I'm asking about here, as that seems to have stopped happening. On the new intake manifold there is a brass fitting. When I plug this, the bike won't run or dies if it is already running. I also had no idea what that pink hose on the right is for, so I got an adapter and connected that to the brass fitting because why not? Same result unfortunately. Right now I'm running it stock from Niche Cycles, a 40 pilot jet, 150 main jet, needle in the second position down, air screw is 1.0 turn out. I'm about 160' ASL and it's like 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit right now. There is a small amount of plastic cut out of the airbox, not a lot though. I'm pretty sure the pipe is stock, there's a Pro-Circuit T4 can on the pipe. Should I leave the brass fitting unplugged? What does that pink hose on the left side of the carb actually go to if that's not it?
