  1. I started my search for a dual sport about a month ago. My last dirtbike was a 96 CR500R that I only rode trails with and was all stock. It was a great bike for off road but sadly, I had no one left to ride with and with no trails close by I sold it in 2009. I had also sold my streetbike in 2009 and got a Corvette. Enough of that. A month ago I was going to buy a 2017 CRF250L. I had been going back and forth between that and a WR250R and wondered if the extra $1,500 or so was worth it. Then I had seen the KTM 350 and 500 EXC and put a deposit on a 17 500 EXC, THEN I came across the Beta 430 and 500 RS and went up to the closest dealer today to swing a leg over the 430 and chat with a salesman, I like the bike. I'm thinking of canceling my deposit for the EXC and just buying the 430 RS. Here are my thoughts, if you care; I would save $1,000 right off the bat as the MSRP for the 430 is $9,699 where the EXC is $10,699. For $100 more I could get the 500 but I don't think I'll need the extra power as I know I'm past my prime CR500R riding days and the 430 will be nice both on the road and on the trails. I'm mostly going to be riding the 4.5-6.5 miles back and forth to work over city streets and on the weekends, depending on where I am, or at night when I can go and ride for an hour or two after the kids go to bed, I know I won't be riding all day long, both weekend days like I did when I was single and had friends and the time to go and ride-I sure miss those days. I like that I can save the money and I like that I have been reading that Beta's are every bit as good and every bit as reliable as every other motorcycle out there and that both parts and service won't be an issue. The only two things that I consider changing on the bike would be the fuel tank and getting a bigger tank but then as I had mentioned, I might ride 60 miles a week going back and forth to work so stopping for gas won't be a big deal and again, I have no one to ride with so I really wouldn't need to worry about range plus, as a dual sport, I could just ride the the gas station-yes! I like that the bike has the Voyager GPS, that is a $300 bonus. I can go out and find new trails near me-there aren't many but there are some, powerlines and stuff and not have to really worry about getting lost, not that it was ever a problem in the past but it is nice to also have the tach, engine temp and all the other features it has that other bikes just don't have, yet. While I'm 5'7" and 165 dry, I had no problem at all having both toes touching the ground, no different than I was on my CR500's. I was glad that I won't have to get and possibly have any lowering kits installed. All the controls felt nice and I like that the clutch is hydraulic, the throttle pull was really smooth and light and that the bike still has the kickstarter-that KTM has done away with in 17. I had taken the seat off using the pushbutton and the salesman had shown me where they had installed the quick connector for a battery tender as well as rings on the lower triple clamp for the tie-down hooks-another couple of bonus'. Bike was brand new sitting there, waiting for me. Should I cancel the deposit on the KTM-as who knows when they might start shipping their bikes, save me $1,000 to put towards a new Shoei Hornet X2 helmet and the hitch rack I'll be needing for my SUV, and a possible LED headlight upgrade and buy the 2017 Beta 430 RS?
  2. I'm wanting any information on a 94 cr500e I bought last fall. I bought it from a friend of the original owner. It was imported from Italy I think and I believe the company that built it with the ok from honda was called honda Manchester racing. That's about all I know. It came with passenger pegs, stock lighting stator, duel pillar kickstand, etc. It's in pretty good shape for its age but I'm thinking about restoring it and selling it because I want a bike I won't feel bad about beating up a bit. I don't really need a street legal cr500 even though it's a blast riding threw town getting thumbs up everywhere. Any info on the bikes value would be great too. Thanks guys.
  3. What do you guys think? I keep seeing articles about how amateur racing is dying because your average rider can't afford to race a 4t bike. I've heard RC, Villipoto, and a few other big names pushing the 2t to come back and I'm also seeing more and more 2017 concept CR250 RM250 and KX250s as if they are coming back.... I've even seen a concept for the 2017 CR500 I'm not sure if they are actually bringing these bikes back or if people are just fooling around on the internet So what do you guys think? I think the 2ts should come back and take racing over I also think the 250 2ts should be ran with 250 4ts Just my opinion though
  4. NBR, but here's a little bike pr0n to brighten your day...
  5. I've been back riding now 2 year's after a long layoff. In the past I would gravitate towards large cc's higher powered bikes like 500 2st and 450s 4st. This time around I went small. 200xcw and now 150sx ( made into a xc ). What I found personally is my skill level and ability has never been better. The conclusion I came up with is that the larger bikes were holding me back. They had way to much power for the type of riding I was doing. The extra power made the bike more difficult to control and was extremely fatiguing. For me going small was the best decision I have made regarding bikes. It seems like so many riders that are learning to ride can't wait for something bigger. Is this the right choice? Are they using the extra power to make up for short comings in ability? Would they do better staying on let's say a 250f longer before going to a 450. I don't know if there is a correct answer, maybe only opinions. One thing to is I'm not bashing larger bike's. I don't want this to get sideways.
  6. Mostly a test thread, but let's be honest, most of us that aren't 12 have some bikes we desperately wished for before all bikes became a "pick a color" type deal. I have plenty, but the ty175 and ty250 are certainly up there amongst plenty of cr Elsinore's
  7. Hey just a general question. For mx racing, a 450 is the largest engine size right? As far as a bike that can handle the beating of jumping 50+ feet and slamming the throttle open. I know there are dual sports in 500 and 650 (too heavy to jump long distances?) also that Honda made the cr500 as well Kawasaki with their kx500, but those are discontinued correct? Just looking to expand my knowledge so I don't come off like a moron haha.
  8. What should you check for? I've yet to really CRASH, I've fallen a few times and such but never anything major or while going fast. I'm just wondering if there's anything specific I should be checking for and stuff before hopping on and just going? I don't know why but I feel like there's gotta be a few things that I might not notice that will turn into something major or something that I should always check for lol.
  9. Just the other day I saw a supermoto cr500 and yz250... How could you get a two stroke to pass all the requirements (mainly talking about emissions here). I didn't think it could be done from a dirt bike. Would it be difficult to get it done? How would it be on the street? I would think that holding the throttle wide open would eat too ends.
  10. Hi guys hope your Sunday is going good.. Have a look at some big bore dirt bike action on my channel my newest YouTube video is doing very well.. almost 50,000 views in just a few weeks!
  11. I was wondering about modern bike quality, longevity, and manufactures true origin. I noticed on u-tube horror stories of some bikes having frame breakage, engine destruction, and over all chaos. So on that note, what is your take on these modern "wonder bikes"?
  12. It would seem that air cooled bikes do better with slow technical stuff, often stopping to take turns. I don't want to assume incorrectly???? Has anybody ever added a fan to an air cooled bike like you would a water cooled radiator?
  13. So just bought this new cr500 it's freakin sweet and I'm so excited for it! however having a problem right off the bat. When I went to look at the bike it was like 30 degrees so I in wasnt interested in test riding, the bike looked prestine and I really hit it off with the guy and trusted him, I was just going to load it up but he insisted I ride it, he kicked it over and it fired up pretty quick, I had my hands all over the engine, it wasn't warmed up, anyways had tons of power, got home unloaded it and now I can't start it.. And I didn't kick it over so I didn't notice this, but I can turn the engine over with my pinky? Its like the spark plug isn't in. Are these that easy to turn over? way easier then my 250. It supposedly only has about 30 hours on it.. Am I missing something stupid or should I prep for a top end job
  14. Hi I am looking to get a new bike for Christmas, I'm 5,11 and weight 12.5 stone. I was looking at possibly getting a 250 2 stroke for my first motocross bike or if I haven't got the funds a 125 2 stroke or even a 85 2 stroke. I thought myself how to ride and started of on a 120 pit bike, sinse then been on different types of bikes like py90's, minimotos, mopeds, roadies, pitbikes so I have got a fair bit of experience on bikes. The only motocross bikes iv been on are a crf150rb and a kx85 bw and damn them things are fast!!(especially the 150r). After I went on those two bikes I sold the pitbike I had and saving up for a big bike now and need ideas as to what's right for me. I want the 250 2 stroke simply because I want a bike which will give me a bit of a scare to ride and something to last me, I can confidently ride a clutch bike and think I could handle it(what do you think?). I love the adrenaline rush of taking of on the band on a two stroke so that's why I want one. Please give me your opinions and yo ur experience on any two stroke bikes, even the little 65's lol . Thanks
  15. Question. I have a 94 cr 500 and was thinking of buying an aluminum sub frame for it. I had seen one that AC racing sells for 240. Does anyone know how much weight difference is between the steel and aluminum sub and would it be worth the 240. I don't have the cash or time to do a full frame swap
  16. Just thought we should make a list.
  17. Who all out here got their significant other (girlfriend, fiancé, wife) hooked on riding or got one that already knows what dirt is really for? I got my girlfriend hooked and she got a crf150rb. She started my riding my crf250r but said my sister's 150f was too weak. Im so glad she understands why i want to ride every weekend that i can, now she joins me.
  18. Just wondering. I still own the KX250 I bought in 1988 and hare scrambled for six or seven years. Along the way it got a big bore (300) kit, a heavy flywheel and a revalved suspension. It did quite well back in the day. It is a tractor and will idle up any hill in any gear pretty much. Awesome for tight BC bush riding. I am now restoring it after it sat in the back of my shop for the last 20 years. So other than a wider ratio transmission and maybe better ergonomics how is it different from a new say KTM 300XC? I see an electric start and a six speed transmission. What else is different. The four strokes have obviously come a long way but I'm not seeing how a new two stroke is better than my old beater. What am I missing? Way more power? I see it weighs the same. It's a serious question. I have been out of the game for a long time and I really was surprised to see that two stroke development seems to have stopped pretty much.
  19. I had a nice 5 page thread going before the system change erased my posts and profile.... I'm a newbie again according to the new system. So here we go again! Post pics and details please! 20. Well i'm in a bind. Family wants to go out camping soon and im out of bikes. My cr250 just blew up. The 500s forks need to be rebuilt. I'm low on cash and time. is it possible to swap everything from the T Clamps down from my 250 to the 500? i know the old 89 is gonna be a bit heavier. Could i just adjust the comp/rebound to make it handle the added weight? Trying to go riding sept 4-6th weekend. Looking for advice soon. Thanks in advance.
  21. hey guys i was considering converting my cr250r to a c500. I want to pick your guys brain about the pros and the cons of such a thing. also what it would cost (ballpark)? what would need to be changed?
  22. Lets just see some of your guys trail bikes.
  23. Hi, I was looking into getting a Cr500. I do not have too much experience on a bike, but I am not a floppy whale either. I would strictly be using this to rip in wide open pastures and Glamis like conditions and would like something too charge me up those hills. I would also look at the future collector value standpoint. Would this bike work for me with some practice or am I just another numb skull that thinks they can handle the beast.
  24. i got these off a old cr500 and i really like them, anybody know where to get them? they say Prostyle on the end of them.
  25. I picked up a 2005 yz250 roller today . I have a ohlins 360 big bore engine that was in a 92 yz that I found . I also plan to install a wide ratio transmission . the plan was going to be make it yellow and black but the yellow plastics are getting hard to find. if anyone knows where i can get a set that would be great. so it looks like i may go white and get red grafix made for it.
