    ultimate wife-mobile. manageable power, a little tuning (suspension & carb). She cant pull a wheelie in 3rd gear but i have not found a single track she cant keep up.

  17. New to the site here...I was brought here every time I would google a question and I figured if anyone's going to know what they're talking about, it would be you guys here. I have a 2005 honda crf 230 and I have been trying to figure out the best way to make it street legal in PA. I've been looking over the DMV laws and it requires the standards (lights, mirrors, etc) but one thing I missed was tires. I know the stock 100/100-18 knobbies on the rear aren't DOT and I've been looking around here and saw a couple people saying that I can get away with a 110/100-18. The only problem is I can't find anyplace that sells 110/100-80 with a street tread on them. Everything I see is just replacement ones for off-road or dual purpose that are DOT. I would rather have ones with more street tread just for the added traction, especially in rain. Anybody have any insight on this kind of stuff? Any place I should look that would sell specifically street designed 110/100-18? I found a Bridgestone Trail Wing TW41 that will work for the front tire, anything else I should consider? All advice is appreciated!

  19. I just picked up a 2003 crf230f yesterday that had low compression. I was hoping I'd get lucky and maybe just do rings and gaskets but no suck luck. No biggie I got it cheap. It would idle fine other than either chattery valves or loose cam chain but only for a minute then it would stall. Compression was at 40 psi hot and cold with wide open throttle. Also it would bog if you grabbed any more than 1/4 throttle. So I ripped it apart today and found something weird. The cam was eaten away worse than I have ever seen. I'm looking for advice on where to go from here bottom end seems good to go it went through all gears but the top end is another story. Here is a picture of the cam any idea what would have caused this? Thanks in advance for any help

  21. Hi I have a 2005 crf230f and I rejeted the bike and installed a new air filter and that helped out a lot. Put I want more throttle response or something that can give the bike be more peppy. Let me know if u have any suggestions. ( And no I don't want to get a 250 I would like to keep the 230) all I do is trail ride.

Hey guys I am wondering buying a drz400 would be too much power for a supermoto?. like do i buy a 250 then make it a supermoto? is the 400 going to be way to much power ill probably use it more on road then offroad. is the 250 going to be to slow or is it going to be to fast? let me know what you guys think
  23. So I was ordering parts for a conversion I am working on for my 2006 crf230f and while I was at it I went ahead and ordered a cam chain tensioner to rid my loose cam chain issue. I ordered a tensioner that was listed as fitting 03-13 crf230s or something I believe it was. Since receiving the tensioner I have a lot of doubts about how well it would fit. It seems that my starter motor is in the way of basically anything other than the stock adjuster. I have found since then, multiple different listing service for tensioner claiming to fit multiple bikes and they all look exactly like the one I got(meaning what they claim fits a crf450r is the same for my crf230f?) That seems very wrong to me. Look forward to hearing from the gurus!
  24. I just have to ask... In all seriousness.... Is everyone drinking some sort of kool-aide?? Everyone one hitting from a bong the size of a bathtub?? In some sort of rehab house suffering on methadone weaning?? Or has nobody ever ridden anything but an xr100 and stepped up to a crf230?? We don't have to act like we are riding greased lightening and our 230 is the hammer of Thor causing the earth to rotate on its axis when we throttle on... I haven't figured out what is going on... Do we have to act extra manly because we have chosen a 230?? I have over 40 years of off roading under my oversized belt... And I am very very happy to be building a 230... For what are all the right reasons for me... Seat height.. e start... Reliability... Just plan all out controllable fun... And fun to personalize... Like restoring a hot rod or old truck... And... I completely appreciate and respect guys like Terry Miller who are truly a gift to be doing the work they do... Time and talent... To give the air cooled thumper crowd a solid choice in better performance... We start with some stuff we like... That we can't get elsewhere in the full tilt boogie techno wars of modern off road bikes.... Some simplicity and reliability...Lower seat... E start... Short wheelbase.. and then every seems to get silly and act like the bike is something it isn't... And never will be... Heavy flywheel , 2 valve thumper... I love it for what it is... Simple , reliable, easy to maintain and hard to stall... Manuverable in the woods.. great fuel economy... As adnohguy accurately describes ... I smile generator.. fun injection as opposed to Fuel Injected.. But it is not a tire shredding beast of the gods... And it ain't gonna be... No matter what... It just isn't... Can you make more power... Absolutely... Is it fun...No question... Will it make more power than an well setup xr400, or xr250... No it won't... It absolutely wont... Will it rip the spokes out of rear wheel and shred the knobs off the tire ?? Hell no it won't... is it going to outrun a 450 on a steep sand hill in northern Michigan or any huge dune... Not now, not ever.. Why can't everyone be realistic and be happy as a clam that it responds to the mods the way it actually does... Say it's relaible as a brick and as fun to ride and modify as a barrel full of monkey's... Without acting like the 450 class or 250mxers for that matter had better count their lucky stars that they don't have to contend with our 230 on the line... Fast in the woods...Yes... Nimble in tight spots..Sure.. powermonger... Not a chance... You guys are going to have to tell me where you buy your kool-aide...
  25. I have an 04 CRF230F Just installed the power up kit (132Main, 45Pilot, Power-up needle @ 3rd position // I ride at Sea Level). Haven't dialed the fuel screw in too much yet, but already notice the bike has more snap, especially low to midrange power! I followed instructions from a few sources -- Rick Ramsey, etc. Rick Ramsey mentions that the needle jet, which comes in the power-up needle part package, is unneeded. I am wondering, is there any difference between the needle jet from a stock 04 CRF230F Carb setup, and the needle jet in this power-up part package? Thanks! -Colin
