Love it, it gave me some problems before the rebuild but now it's better than ever. Big bore gives it crazy bottom end and the cam makes up for that loss off the top. Awesome bike all around.
  2. Good morning, afternoon dirt squirts. I installed a 270cc kit on my son's RMZ250, new SST valves and valve springs with new oil seals. I installed new seals in the bottom end. Assembly went smooth as a normal 4 stroke rebuild. I checked the ring clearances and did have to open up just a very small amount. It fired up on about he 10th kick after rebuild. Sounded tight and strong, idled good. Upon break in, it would flame out when off throttle. Not a problem with a fresh rebuild and it fired back up with not issues. It continued to flame out every time. I changed the CDI modules and went thru all three, gray, white, black, to try to find a good place for the mapping. I was hoping the FI would pick up the need for more air/fuel but the bike would still flame out.....during this time, I noticed heavy smoke from the exhaust, thinking it was the excess assembly oil I used for assembly. The smoke never stopped so I thought I had knicked a main seal of sorts and down she went to replace the main crank seals again. Once back together, the same issues were present, flaming out at off throttle runs, break-ins. So I researched a tuner for my budget and installed the JD Jetting piggyback tuner. Easy installation, easy adjustment, if we can keep the bike running. So I bypassed the tuner until we can get the bike running great with just the big bore kit. Any advise on where to go from here? Would this big bore kit create vacuum to pull the tranny oils into the cylinder? It pulled enough oil that it was running out the exhaust. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  3. Getting ready to do a full rebuild on my 01 250. This bike had been sleeved sometime in the past so I was considering buying a new or good used cylinder because I want to go back to stock bore. I can't find a good cylinder on fleabay for any less than $300.....new or used. I can't believe one of the aftermarkets like cylinder works hasn't dived into this. I'm a machinist by trade and a mechanic as my 2nd income so chances are I'll be resleeving my current cylinder to get me back to std bore.

Great bike, the handling is second to none. The bolts seem to be pretty cheap but overall this has been a great bike for me!

I love the DRZ. It is a pig and not the best performer, but I will rebuild this bike over and over before I ever sell it.

2006 SM model - Bought it in 2008 with 1800 miles, use it for commuting and riding on the weekends. Easy to work on and LOTS of stuff available for these bikes to make them better. Stock they are sort of a pig. Dropped a valve @ 71982 miles, had almost 60K on the Stroker crank and BB... Can't ask for much more from a single cylinder dirt bike. Several different motors and configurations over the 88K miles. Currently back with a stock bore and "E" cams. Still runs great and fun to ride, I miss the extra torque from the BB and BB/Stroker.

    Freshly built 440SM.
  11. Has anyone had success in filing a claim against a motorcycle parts company for selling defective parts that lead to catastrophic damage being done? My boyfriend ordered a top end from cylinder works and a clip failed causing catastrophic damage to his motor. I want to file a claim and have them pay for fixing (replacing really) his motor. How do I go about documenting and getting the info to the right people?

This bike has come along way from the stock POS Suzuki puts out, but really a solid mild bike turned into a ROCK SOLID fire breathing monster! I'm sure that I left some stuff out but it's been fun transforming this bike into something that I'm proud to own, and a big THANK YOU to all here at THUMPERTALK for helping me make this bike happen! OEM appearing big bore cylinder kit, a hand matched, forged Vertex big bore piston and top-end gasket kit. These kits offer you an affordable way to increase horsepower and engine displacement without giving your secret away to your competition. Cylinder- new, not remanufactured, cast aluminum nickel silicon carbide (NSC) electroplated big bore cylinder that appears just like an OE cylinder. NSC is a composite of a nickel and silicon carbide, providing an excellent wear resistant surface with oil retention capabilities. Cylinders are then diamond honed to the exact bore dimension and proper surface finish to ensure the proper ring seal and oil retention. Vertex big bore piston- To handle the internal pressures of a four-stroke engine, Vertexs big bore four-stroke pistons are forged from the highest quality 2618 aluminum alloy for superior strength and durability. Vertex uses unique piston profiles and compression ratios, offered in A, B, C and D sizes, to maximize power and performance while reducing blow-by and oil consumption. Each Vertex piston is then hand matched to fit each Cylinder Works cylinder perfectly. Gasket kits- These kits contain the necessary gaskets to rebuild your top end. Kits include head, base, exhaust gaskets, and o-rings necessary when removing the cylinder and head during routine maintenance.
