This is actually a 1997, but I didn't see that option from the drop down menu. I found myself wanting a bike to do some longer distance riding, that would be less comfortable on a plated dirt bike. I used to own an XR650l, and wanted something similar, with a little more road focus. I've always wanted a DR650, so that was the obvious choice. I was looking for a 96+ due to the numerous improvements over the previous model years. Found this 97' locally in great shape and ended up buying it. It has just over 8k miles and looks like it has never been off road, even the graphics are in great condition. I have added a skid plate and bar risers, but other than than, dont plat on doing any mods. The bike has street oriented tires on it and will be my primary road focused bike. -

Just got it and having some carb issues at 1/4 throttle. Took it to dealer and the cleaned out the carb but the issue remains. I Will be trying air fuel screw adjustment as pointed out in this forum. Waiting till Easter for the first off road and true test ride. So far seems to have good power after lean start off bog condition. I think I will love the bike once the carb is fixed.***Update*** You guys rock! I turned air/fuel screw out from 1 1/4 to 2 turns as suggested and now the bike moved up to a 4 from the 2 I had earlier. The only reason it is not a 5 star is it is too heavy. It is now a blast to ride!!! Thanks again, Sal -

Purchased to downsize from my R1200GS Adventure as I learned that true dual sport riding requires something much lighter and more nimble. Many hard core dirt riders still think the DR is a pig but with Cogent shock and fork upgrades, this is a very competent dual sport and a lot more fun than the 600+ lb Bavarian if the going gets tough. I like my GS but not on anything more challenging than gravel roads and two track trails. I expect to ride the DR a lot more than the GS in 2017.
