Cleaning out my garage and I have slightly used take off parts from my 2011 Suzuki DR650se and some brand new aftermarket parts I never got around to installing and never will so they are up for grabs. All prices are negotiable shipping extra. 1st up is a set of oem front springs. $20.00 Next is the oem muffler complete, shipping will likely be higher than the part. $50.00 Here we have the oem seat cover and cushion. $20.00 That's it for the oem parts, the following parts all came from www.procycle.us so you can compare prices. First up is a Clarke 3.7G fuel tank with oem decals but they bubbled up for some reason. Tank is in perfect shape, slightly used. $50.00 Here we have Badlands tank luggage brand new, slightly blemished on one side from a bottle of glue that leaked on it as noted in the last picture. $50.00 And lastly a Mikuni TM40 pumper carb with brand new never used cable kit. I made the mistake of letting the bike sit until the fuel went bad so the carb is obviously gunked up and will need rebuilding/cleaning out, also comes with brand new remote mount choke as shown, comes equipped with jets for air box and exhaust mod as well as the original jets. $200.00 That's all I have ready for new homes or wheels I should say, send a pm if interested and thanks for looking. EDIT: Vapor Trail Tech sold!

    $200.00

  3. Hello all! My name is Miles and I need some help gauging what to expect for condition/"reliability" you could say, of my DRZ400E for cross country travel! I am looking into traveling the Trans America Trail. I'm from Rhode Island and found an alternate rout where I can start on the West border of Connecticut. Ending in Colorado, to Nevada, then California; and cruising something along the lines of RT66 back. [just for reference, don't mean to ramble] The Machine: 2003 DRZ400-E ~6k miles total - 5k lightly ridden, never seen dirt - 0.8k %100 hard off road [past year] Frequent Oil changes, Air Filter changes {I ride with the guy I purchased it from nearly daily. He was good about maintenance on the regular, but also pushe the bike in the woods just as much!} Front and Rear Suspension rebuilt, carburetor rebuilt all last year Stock everything except FMF power bomb header and exhaust muffler, and Vapor Trail Tech, lights + fork socks Expected Maintenance: Top End Rebuild, Timing, Valves adjusted [Have not done compression test, but i would expect new top to be necessary] obvious things such as Brake Pads, Fluids, Chain/Sprockets, Tries, Heavy Tubes From this information, And Any You Can Think Of To Ask, does this DRZ have potential for the Trans America Trail; a ~6'000 dirt, then ~4,000 road return trip?! Or would I be better off selling it for a newer model? Thanks! -Miles

  6. I'm new to the forums and have been doing some searching (here and Google)... Can't find what I'm looking for. I having trouble with what seems to be higher-than-normal vibration issues at average RPMs on my DR650 with ~15,000 miles. Sitting and idling seem to be fine; it doesn't sound like there's an issue at that point. However, cruising around back roads and along local highways, at speeds ranging from 30-70 MPH, it just seems to run rough. It's hard to explain... It seems like it's running with higher RPMs than that it should be at that speed or the engine just sounds louder than it should at that speed. Fuel mileage has suffered too! It ran fine since the day I bought it (new) but something happened and this started last summer. So, in the fall, I decided to do some work to it... The first thing I did was pull the carburetor apart and clean it with solvent, Q-tips and compressed air. Like many, the #2 phillips screws on the bowl had me wanting to shoot it! After getting those replaced, the carb was put back together and placed on the bike. However, while it was off and waiting for the new screws, I also added a shim to the needle and upped the main jet to 152.5 in the Mikuni BST40. Based off teenage memories of working on my '78 Honda XL175, I tuned it as best I could and put it on the road again... While on the road during the first test-ride after the carb-job, and after finding the ride was no better, I swung by the local shop and grabbed two new spark plugs. It should have needed them anyway. When I swapped them out, the old ones looked fine. However, the money had already been spent and it couldn't get any worse so I replaced them and tossed the old ones in the trash. On the road again.... Still no joy! So, I read some more articles on the web and decided to order new air filters. I installed a Uni-Filter UP-102 for the carb's breather and replaced the main air filter with a K&N SU-6596. On the road again.... Still no joy...again....some more... I read some more and checked the fuel system. The fuel valve & screen seemed clean and fully functional. On the road again.... Still, no difference in the ride! I read some more and realized I had forgotten about the valve job to have been done around 7,000 miles. So, I read some more and, with the help of a link on this forum to a PDF, I got that done - to the best of my knowledge. The settings I used were Intake valves ~0.13mm (0.005") & Exhaust valves ~0.20mm (0.007"). I'm waiting on new engine plugs but, the old ones are not leaking so I took it to work for a test-ride. While heading into work, I noticed the same old overly-loud and overly-vibrating ride... STILL NO JOY! I thought about the tires but I noticed when I pull the clutch in at these speeds, the engine goes back to idling and the noise and vibrations stop. If they were out of balance, I'd feel it then too. I thought about the chain being too tight but it seems to have plenty of slack in it and, again, I'd feel it in neutral or when the clutch was pulled in at those speeds. The engine oil seems to be at the correct level so I crossed that off the list as well. I plan to change it in the next week or two anyway. I'm pretty much out of ideas. What's worse is I'm busy with work and getting our house ready to sell so I'm running low on time. I'm considering taking it into the shop and telling them to "call me when it works." However, there's a side of me that figures I can fix damn near anything so long as I have the time, the tools and the knowledge. So, here I am, looking for some guidance from those who I hope are far more knowledgeable and experienced than I. (Personally, I've come to equate knowledgeable and experienced to weathered - or so it would seem that way after having gained the knowledge and experience!) So, for those of you who have weathered this experience before, ya'all mind giving some insight?
  7. I have recently installed new LED indicators in my new dr650. I replaced the flasher under the seat as well. Initially the indicators were blinking fine, but all 4 indicators would be on when the indicator switch was set to the right. I found some information that said to pull the bulb from the dash panel and that should fix it. When I tried this it did seem to work however, a new problem has now arisen. The right and left indicators work as they should except that now they don't blink at all. I put the bulb back into the dash panel and when you set the indicator switch to left or right, the bulb in the dash panel doesn't light up now either and the indicators still don't flash. I thought maybe the bulb in the dash may have blown so i tried the bulb from the high beam dash light and it didn't work either. Tested the indicator dash light with a multimeter to see if it was getting power and it only reads 6.7v DC. the other dash lights read 10.7v DC. I checked the 2 x 10v fuses + the 30v fuse and they seem to be fine. I also plugged the original flasher unit back in and tested with it and got the same results. The blinkers don't work at all if I disconnect the flasher unit. Anyone got a clue on what's going on and how I get my blinkers working properly?

  10. So I've narrowed down what dual sport bike I want. Both are 2013's at the local Suzuki dealer, so rider info, I'm greener then the green horns usually on the wizard, never been on a street bike, I did ride a 96 rm 250 a few times and managed to no kill myself or stall it on semi flat surfaces. Hills. That was a different stories. But. I'm 6'3" and 260lb. So with that said I'm deciding between either the 400s or 650se, and here's the break down in my head, and thoughts, if I'm off or wrong please explain to me why so I can learn why!!! The 400s + modern looking + liquid cooled for the 90-95* summer days + adjustable front forks + lighter over the 650 From reading to make this a reliable bike for the 15000-20000 miles I plan on keeping either bike i have to do - The manual cam chain tensioner mod so it don't kill the cam chain in no time flat - upper chain roller removal For the 650se + it's a 650 so open roads should be more relaxed in the 55-60mph zone + feels a tad more comfortable sitting on it + no radiator to worry about if I drop it a time or two + low tech/old school tech (no stupid electronic issues) + it's grey not black (not a black fan) And for the 650 to make it reliable - the neutral switch, have to rip the side cover off and clutch to lock tite this (why don't Suzuki do that?!?!?!) - side stand switch bypass (that's easy) - upper chain roller removal So that's whats in my head. Price wise they are within about $150 of each other. So price isn't a factor. But now some questions. On the 650, how soon do I have to worry about the neutral switch? Can it wait till like 4-5000 miles so I can do this in the winter when I can't ride this? On the 400, do I need to tear everything off it to do the mcct or is there a faster way that I can just pull the spark plug and rotate motor over till its at or near tdc without having to pull the shrouds and gas tank and valve cover? On either model, is there any problems I'm missing or should know of? Which bike would you recommend? And also. Neither bike have a tach, and I would kinda like to have one, I seen the older 650's had a tach... Can I get an old gauge cluster and plug and play? Or just go to jegs and get a jegs tach that works on a single cylinder motor and wire it up and be on my way? Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  12. Hey Guys, I got a DR 650 about 2 months ago, and ever since I've had it it has gotten terrible mpg (best 34 mpg, worst 30 mpg) When I got it, it was a bone stock 06 DR650 with 18,000 miles on it (very clean). At first I noticed an oil leak from the infamous cam chain tensioner gasket, which I promptly replaced. After that I changed spark plugs (ngk cr9ek), new air fliter (twin air), and added a jet kit (pro cycle w/ air box mod). Before the procycle jet kit I had to switch to reserve consistently at 88 to 91 miles on the trip meter. I just got done tuning the carb with jet kit, and I had to switch over to reserve at 73 miles. The carb is tuned with the 155 procycle/mikuni main jet (or the 165 for you dynojet guys) on the 5th notch of the procycle needle jet, counting from the top down. I know it sounds a little rich, but it's what the engine liked. Also when I got the bike it never needed to be choked, even when it was 35 degrees out, just two hits of the starter and I cranked right up. The OEM choke cable was seized up and would not move, so when I put the procycle jet kit on, I replaced it with a knob choke, which got it starting up like a normal engine, ie) need choke when cold. I have replaced the o rings on the carb float, and set to proper float height, along with all new carb gaskets. I will say though with all the jetting and new toy syndrome I have been driving the bike like a bat out of hell and have had long idles to warm up engine for jetting purposes, but it is hard to believe that that could have that much of an effect on my mpg. Any idea what could be causing this terrible gas mileage? It runs real strong, but something has got to be going on considering the mpgs this bike is supposed to be getting. Thanks all, this site members have helped me get at least this far with diagnosing.... I'm thinking dragging brake pad or bad fuel petcock. I don't think it's leaking gas through the stump into the oil, or else it would be way too full. Please help...I need to get better gas milage than a 4 door sedan
  13. Hi all, I thought I would start posting up some video of rides we are doing in South East Queensland, both Adventure and Dirt rides. Here's number one. Hope you enjoy.
